Gaither Music Group and Ernie Haase & Signature Sound Honor The Cathedral Quartet With New Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - October 26, 2010 - Gaither Music Group is pleased to announce the release of Ernie Haase & Signature Sound: A Tribute to the Cathedral Quartet available now on CD and DVD.

Ernie Haase & Signature Sound give new appreciation to some of the greatest quartet favorites every written in this DVD and CD, honoring the songs and legacy of the quartet that inspired their own genesis as a group. With a breathtaking set, an electrifying audience of supporters, an inspiring line-up of Cathedrals favorites, plus vintage photos, footage and memories of The Cathedrals, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound keep those great memories alive and offer their gratitude for the indelible mark their heroes made on Gospel music.

Ernie Haase comments, “It is no secret that I love The Cathedral Quartet. As a young teenager, I had a poster of them on my wall right next to my favorite sports’ icons. George and Glen; their music changed and formed my life.” Ernie continues, “To have been part of George and Glen's history and to have been there for their last ten years was nothing less than ‘epic’ for me. Now, ten years after The Cathedrals’ retirement, we are blessed to pay tribute and bring the music of The Cathedrals to a new generation.”

Members of the Payne family, the Younce family and Roger Bennett’s family added a very special element to the evening, simply by their presence, and Bill Gaither and Squire Parsons also joined the celebration to honor their good friends.
“There are few artists in history who were better examples to follow than George Younce and Glen Payne" says Bill Gaither. "When they founded The Cathedrals, they started more than a great quartet; they modeled character, team spirit and countless other qualities that young groups could learn from. I know Ernie’s early years as a young artist singing with The Cathedrals helped shape his worldview and his vision as an artist, and it is wonderful to see Ernie Haase and Signature Sound honor the spiritual and musical legacy of The Cathedrals so beautifully. This is a wonderful celebration.”

This DVD and CD release features Ernie Haase & Signature Sound at their very finest. Ernie Haase & Signature Sound: A Tribute to the Cathedral Quartet, is distributed through EMI CMG Distribution, and is available online at gaither.com, ErnieHaase.com, iTunes and Amazon.com among others, and in retail stores where Christian music is sold.

The Freemans Provide Evidence of God’s Faithfulness in Their Own Lives On Highly Anticipated New Recording

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (October 19, 2010) – Southern Gospel favorites The Freemans are excited to announce the release of their highly-anticipated new recording – Evidence. Four years in the making, Evidence is truly The Freemans most transparent and emotional release to date from the group.

Evidence features songs that were chosen in response to four pivotal years for the group, which were mired with multiple family deaths and extremely personal losses for individual group members. Those events took the group on an emotional journey that resonates throughout the new recording.

“Every time we would go into the studio to start to record, something else would happen and we would have another very hard thing to go through,” mentioned Darrell Freeman, founding member and producer of Evidence. “Those times weren’t the right times to record. We just had to wait on God’s timing, and we are very thankful for that.”

Chris Freeman agreed, “Some of these songs probably wouldn’t have been cut if we hadn’t had to walk through the valleys that we did walk through. Darrell’s performance of ‘I Can’t Even Walk’ is so amazing, and it’s because of the losses in our family that he’s able to sing it so affectively!”

The pivotal song and first single “The Father and the Son” is a Dianne Wilkinson original that captures the essence of the recording better than any song. Additional songs that already have people talking are the aforementioned “I Can’t Even Walk,” Caylon Freeman’s vocal debut “Sending Me Angels,” and emotional home-going celebration of “Is Not This the Land of Beulah,” which many are calling Chris Freeman’s finest vocal to date.

Evidence is now available at concert events and on The Freemans’ website. The first single, “The Father & The Son” is already making an impact at Southern Gospel radio – currently charting in the Singing News Top 40 and Top 5 of the AbsolutelyGospel.com (formerly SoGospelNews.com) Top 40 Weekly Chart.

For more information on the new recording, visit http://www.the-freemans.com .

The Freemans have had a strong start to 2010 – including two wins SGM FanFair Awards this past May. The popular family group was awarded Favorite Song for their smash-hit single “Three Rugged Crosses” (written by Marty Funderburk and Ricky Funderburk). In addition, beloved vocalist and Southern Gospel mainstay Chris Freeman was awarded Favorite Alto at the fan-based awards show.

AN OPEN LETTER FROM TARANDA GREENE

Dear Friends,

I want to say a very special "Thank You" to each and every one for all of your love, prayers, encouragement and support during this very difficult time in my life. It's during a time like this that one finds who your true friends are, and I have been blessed with so many of you. It has been a few weeks of overwhelming emotions, but through it all, the Lord has been wonderful! Tony's home-going Celebration was truly that...a celebration of his life and ministry. Tony was my husband and my companion in life, and I loved him with all my heart. Saying goodbye has been the hardest thing I have ever had to face. Yet, I can truthfully say that over the last few years I have felt the Lord preparing my heart for this upcoming heartbreak. Honestly, our life was not always easy or perfect. As everyone does, we went through our trials and storms of life, but as we sang and encouraged night after night...we held on! The Lord has been faithful to walk through each and every trial. I am still holding on, and I'm still trusting in His plan.

Tony was my biggest encourager and always pushed me to sing. I have been very blessed over the last few years with amazing opportunities. I look back on all of it as a time of preparation for this new day. The very best way I can remember Tony is to do what I know he would want me to do: I will sing! I will hurt, and I will grieve. I will share with our precious girls every memory of their wonderful father who loved them. I will take each day one step at a time. I will look forward to what life has ahead for me. I will cling and hold on to the relationships and friendships that have carried me through. And, I will sing.

There have been questions and speculation about my future and the future of The Greenes. I can acknowledge that we will have formal announcements at a later date, but for now, my current plans include taking some time to rest. I will honor some singing engagements I committed to in November and December. These events inlude some cruises, a West Coast tour, and Christmas with The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. I plan on filling these upcoming dates solo, sharing my music, songs of The Greenes, my memories and my story. John Jeffrey, who played the piano with our ministry for over five years, will continue to accompany me as pianist. Jeff Synder also has plans for his own future, and we are excited for him. We all covet your prayers and your support. I know this will not be easy, but it is what I feel in my heart I must do, and I know the Lord will continue to walk with me every step of the way. I look forward to seeing each one of you along the journey.

Love,

TaRanda

Dove Brothers Announce Jonathan Price As New Tenor

BLADENBORO, N.C. – (October 18, 2010) – Multi-award winning quartet the Dove Brothers are excited to announce the addition of Jonathan Price as the group’s new tenor vocalist.

“We auditioned Jonathan this weekend, and he brought the house down,” mentioned McCray Dove, owner/manager/lead vocalist of the popular quartet. “He’s got a different sound than any of our previous tenors, but it’s a good fit, and we’re excited about his future with our group.”

McCray continued, “I was taught a long time ago by a prominent member of the Gospel music community that you don’t go looking for a replacement when someone leaves your group. You have to look for someone who brings something fresh to the group. Jonathan brings that fresh sound to our group, and we know he’s going to do an exciting job in this post.”

Jonathan has a strong resume within the Southern Gospel music community. Price joins the Dove Brothers after a three-year tenure with the Dixie Melody Boys. Price sang with Paul’s Journey before the Dixie Melody Boys. Jonathan and his wife Vivian currently reside in Farmville, North Carolina.

Price will begin full-time with the Dove Brothers during the month of November. Price replaces long-time vocalist Jerry Martin who left the group to pursue other interests.

The Dove Brothers released their critically acclaimed album Unshakeable earlier this year. The first single from that release – “If I Knew Then” – just hit #1 on the AbsolutelyGospel.com (formerly SoGospelNews.com) Top 40 Weekly Chart this week. The song is also quickly climbing the Singing News Top 80 chart – coming in at #42 on the upcoming November chart in only its second month of charting.

Jerry Martin Departs the Dove Brothers

BLADENBORO, N.C. – (October 15, 2010) – Multi-award winning quartet the Dove Brothers regretfully announce the departure of long-time tenor vocalist Jerry Martin.

McCray Dove said, “Jerry has been a big part of our group for the last eight and a half years. This decision was mutual between us. We have no hard feelings for Jerry and wish him the best in the future. Sometimes one knows when their time is up with a group, and Jerry felt that it was time for him to transition to a new area. What that is exactly we don’t know – but we love Jerry and support him in whatever way he chooses to go.”

Dove continued, “We want to squelch any rumors that Jerry left because of creative differences. There really isn’t any more to the story. We both just felt it was time, and we are still great friends!”

During his tenure with the Dove Brothers, Jerry was the voice behind the #1 Song of 2007 and SGN Music Award Song of the Year winner “I Can Pray.” Jerry has earned multiple Favorite Tenor nominations in the Singing News Fan Awards and a Male Vocalist of the Year nod in the SGN Music Awards during his time with the group.

Until a permanent replacement can be named, the Dove Brothers have enlisted the help of Phil Barker (formerly of the Singing Americans) to fill in. The group is currently auditioning vocalists for the position, and a replacement will be named in the coming weeks.

The Dove Brothers released their critically acclaimed album Unshakeable earlier this year. The first single from that release – “If I Knew Then” – just hit #1 on the AbsolutelyGospel.com (formerly SoGospelNews.com) Top 40 Weekly Chart this week. Rod & Kelly Burton Travel to Columbia with Compassion Internationl

Couple Meets Sponsor Child and Sees Ministry’s Work First Hand
HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Rod & Kelly Burton recently traveled to Bogota, Columbia to see the work of Compassion International first-hand. The couple, who together work in various aspects of Gospel music, partnered with Compassion International earlier this year.

The couple spent four days in the foreign country – visiting Compassion International projects and spending time with families who are directly affected by the child-advocacy organization. The Burtons saw the wholistic development it offers with spiritual, education, social, and nutritional opportunities. In addition, the couple was blessed to meet their own sponsor child – Jhordan (5 years old), as well as Kelly’s brother’s sponsor child – Anyi (7 years old).

Kelly Burton said, “We hugged, sang, and danced with the children. We were served by them and on one day, served them. We were overwhelmed by the hospitality of the country's Compassion staff and the organized, efficient, and Christlike work they are doing for thousands of children in areas saturated with poverty and in some cases, crime.”

The Burtons share the work of Compassion International through their multiple areas of expertise in Gospel music - Rod's music ministry, Kelly's writing projects (SGN Scoops Digital), and Branson Gospel Music Revival, an annual event the couple organizes every year.

Kelly continued, “Being part of the work of Compassion and certainly traveling to Colombia has not just changed our life perspective - it has changed the focus of our ministry. I know we are blessed abundantly by living in America, but now we also believe with all our hearts that as Christians, it is our absolute responsibility to help rescue families from the curse of poverty - which often includes a hopelessness that we cannot begin to comprehend. It's our job to show them the hope of Jesus!”

“After holding a Compassion child in my arms while singing ‘Jesus Loves Me,’ the words of that song are more real than ever,” mentioned Rod Burton. “Jesus loves us all, and those of us who already have that knowledge need to be His hands here on Earth. With Compassion, we are helping equip those in need to make the journey from hopelessness to blessed hope."

Friends and family can read more about The Burtons’ experience in Columbia and with Compassion International by visiting Rod’s website at http://www.rodburtonmusic.com .

The Bowling Family – Available To Make Limited Appearances

Mike, Kelly and Terah will be available for a limited schedule in 2011. They have an unbelievable testimony to share. The history of this family is rich (the girls spending many years with their siblings as the Crabb Family, and Mike achieving many musical goals) and the blessings have been many. But, the grace and mercy of this miracle has brought these folks to a place that overshadows the accolades of the past. The path is obvious.
The Bowlings are reminded daily that God is still on the throne and miracles are still a part of our lives in 2010. The ministry of this family will touch your life in a fresh way. This story confirms what we all know. The enemy tries daily to bring harm and destroy, but God has the final say!
Watch the story and witness the miracle . . .

Mike, Kelly and Terah will be available to make select television appearances and radio interviews during the months of October and November.
The group plans to return to a limited touring schedule in 2011.
Mike, Kelly and Terah made a special appearance at the 2010 National Quartet Convention. This was their first appearance after their horrible bus crash.

To schedule a television appearance, please contact: Crystal Burchette-Johnson crystalpr@comcast.net 615-473-4619
To schedule a concert or church appearance, please contact Beckie Simmons beckie@bsaworld.com 615-595-7500
From the Bowling’s perspective:
“When you feel as if your life is in the balance and everyday is a gift, you realize how real the grace of God is. After spending lots of hours with Him, I know the calling has not changed and is even stronger. I don’t remember the accident, but after seeing photographs and video footage of the bus, I have no doubt that God performed a miracle that day on I-85. Kelly and I have committed our lives to giving back to Him and telling of our miracle. The lyrics of our songs have become life to me and I can’t wait to sing them again,” Mike Bowling commented.
Kelly Bowling continued, “The day of the accident, I woke up to the sound of brakes squealing and felt the impact of the crash that broke my back. I immediately heard screams from the front lounge that I knew were my family, children and friends. After opening the door and seeing just how bad the scene was, never in a million years would I have believed we are all sitting here recovering and not one life was lost. The memories of that day will eventually fade, and as I look forward to that, I want to always remember what God has taught me through all of this. I know that Satan had a plan that day, but God had a purpose! I now look at life so differently. I feel we have a new vision! The compassion and second chance given to us makes me want to wake up daily and help others. When you have cried yourself to sleep over your own healing, then you know how to pray with others about their situations. There is no way to express the honor I feel to know that ministry is my future. I am more excited than I have ever been, in my entire life, to return to ministry. I feel like there is a well bubbling up!”
“I know that the prayers of people changed the outcome of the situation. Through Facebook and Twitter, thousands and thousands of people were praying immediately. It is not the normal that changes people’s lives, it is the interruptions. It’s amazing how when times are tough and tragedy hits, people bind together and love conquers all. We have a new song to sing and when we get back on the road, it is going to be awesome! Our lives have been touched and I know God is going to allow us to touch others,” said Terah Penhollow.

The Watkins Family Garner Two Chart Songs in Two Genres

Just shortly before thousands cheered their opening of the Front Porch Fellowship Bluegrass Gospel Awards on the main stage of the National Quartet Convention at Freedom Hall in Louisville, the Watkins Family discovered they had two songs climbing the charts.
The group which includes matriarch Judy Watkins and her three adult children Todd, Lorie and Shanon, and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Maness continue a path sharing their love of Jesus through traditional music touring across the United States and Canada.
“This has been a whirlwind month for us,” said Lorie Watkins. “We were honored to appear at the National Quartet Convention. The audience was so receptive to our latest material.”
Lorie was nominated for two of the awards presented at the event including Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Instrumentalist.
Among their performance set, they sang both the chart songs from their project “Heaven’s Worth Waiting For.” It features a collection of their unique crossover sounds that help the group to reach audiences in several gospel genres – Southern gospel, bluegrass and country.
Their latest single “Sometimes You Got to Rock the Boat” is rising in Southern Gospel’s Singing News charts beginning its climb at 68. The late Dr. Jerry Falwell is featured at the beginning of the song written by Jerry Salley and James Elliot.
Their previous top 50 Singing News chart song “She’s Working on Her Testimony” since the convention has risen four slots from number 7 to number 3 on the Power Source Bluegrass Charts. The song was penned by Greg Day and Sheri LaFontaine.
Both songs are performed by Shanon and she said she is so pleased with how audiences are receiving them.
“The Lord is blessing these songs and allowing them to reach a wider radio audience because they are touching hearts,” Shanon said. “I am honored to simply be singing these messages of hope and encouragement.”

NASHVILLE, TENN. (October 5, 2010) - Connie Hopper, beloved matriarch of The Hoppers, was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame at the SGMA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on September 29, 2010 at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN.
The celebrated first lady of America's Favorite Family of Gospel Music, noted for her vibrant faith, has received many outstanding accolades during her career, including the Singing News Favorite Alto of the Year award three times, and the Marvin Norcross award in recognition of her devotion to family, church and significant contributions to the gospel music industry. For over 50 years Connie has been a member of the Hopper family singers, an accomplished musician, songwriter, and author of two books: The Peace That Passeth Understanding, a book of testimonies about her experience with cancer and Heart of The Matter, an inspiring devotional.
The Singing News Fan Awards were woven into the SGMA Hall of Fame ceremony with three more awards for The Hoppers; Kim Hopper, Favorite Female Artist of the Year and Favorite Soprano of the Year and The Hoppers were named Favorite Mixed Group of the Year with Claude Hopper accepting for his family.
Karlye Hopper, daughter of Dean & Kim Hopper, graciously accepted twice for her mother Kim who was absent from the ceremony due to the death of her brother Tony Greene the day before. Karlye's uncle, Michael Hopper accompanied his niece to the stage where she spoke eloquently for her mother: "I'd like to accept this award on behalf of my mother who, due to the very sudden passing of her baby brother, couldn't be here today. She sends her extreme gratitude to each one of you for every prayer, you'll never know how much they all meant to us. And I suppose, considering the circumstances, it's assumed I have something slightly profound prepared. All I've really got is that we'd like to dedicate, not just this object, but this exact moment to: my mothers best friend, the love of my aunt's life, and my sweet baby cousins' daddy. We love you Tony."
In addition, the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame also inducted: Danny Gaither, Sam Goodman, Bill Hefner, Little Jan Buckner-Goff, Arthur Smith and presented the prestigious James D. Vaughan Impact Award to Dolly Parton for her significant contributions to gospel music.

The Quicks Celebrate the Hope and Message of Gospel Music with the Release of Hymns

The Quicks Celebrate the Hope and Message of Gospel Music with the Release of Hymns

SMYRNA, Tenn. – (September 30, 2010) – Middle Tennessee’s beloved family group The Quicks have embraced the hope and message of Gospel music with their new recording – Hymns. Hymns, an album two years in the making, features songs that had a profound impact on the group during what was perhaps the most trying time of their lives.

Sally Quick of The Quicks said, “Hymns albums are usually recorded and spat out in a matter of months or even weeks for most other groups. So, why did it take us two years to make this CD? Life.”

Taking suggestions from friends of The Quicks, they chose the titles and even recorded the tracks long before the group suffered a very personal family tragedy – putting the album on hold until they could gain a sense of normalness back in their lives. Each of these songs took on a whole new meaning for the group as they reeled back from the dark fog of their unexpected loss.

“We found a peace in these songs that we hadn’t found elsewhere,” mentioned Tim Quick. “We are just amazed at how God ordered our paths to such detail that he knew what songs we needed to record after our loss.”

Sally commented, “Our family is learning to live again, to smile again, and yes, even laugh again. The beauty of the sun shining through the rain is an amazing sight. We’ve witnessed God letting His Son shine through our tears. This recording features songs that helped us see the Son again.”

Hymns was produced and arranged by group members Sally and Becca Quick. Songs included on the album are such favorites as “I Surrender All,” “Be Still My Soul,” “In the Garden,” “Love Lifted Me,” “Tis So Sweet,” “It Is Well,” and many more.

Hymns is now available on The Quicks’ website or at concert events.
