Dan Keeton Joins Gold City
An Open Letter from Gold City:
Brent Mitchell has decided to come off the road. As many of you know, Brent and Heather welcomed a new baby girl, Paislee, back in January. Brent says, "My 3 month old daughter, Paislee, has been very sick for the past few weeks and I feel I need to be with my family at this time. Family has always come first in my life, but I am so sad to leave my dream job. I did not think it was fair to Gold City for me to hold them back not knowing the future health of my little girl. Please pray for my family and for Paislee, that she will get through whatever her little body is going through right now. I will miss GC and cherish the little time I had there!"
Daniel Riley says, "We will miss Brent. During his time here we have grown to love him. He will always be a part of the Gold City family. I know this was a very hard decision for him, but I admire him for making the right decision."
Filling the tenor position is Dan Keeton. In an open letter to his friends, Dan shares,
"When I was 16 years old, I began singing with my first Gospel Quartet. I had already been through a childhood of pain and heartache. I had to grow up really fast. But, Grandma's box of Gospel Music and the music I heard on the radio, gave me some real heroes to look up to. I heard on the radio that the Gold City Quartet was coming to Beaver Dam, KY. That was only 25 minutes away!
I had just bought my first car, a green and rust Plymouth Volare'. I filled up with gas, bought a Coke and headed off to Beaver Dam. I got to the church 4 hours early! I waited in the parking lot for Gold City to arrive in the bus. I waited but, when they had not arrived after 30 minutes, I decided I needed another Coke.
I started driving down the road toward the corner store and coming toward the church was the big bus. I whipped her around, pulled in behind the bus and jumped out to meet The Gold City Quartet. Off they came; Brian Free, Ivan Parker, Gary Jones, Mike LeFevre and the man, Tim Riley!
The music, the band, the voices and the message I heard that very night removed all doubt. I prayed all the way home that God would allow me to sing with a quartet "just like" that one. It might take 26 years, or it might not be exactly what you asked for but, God does answer your prayers."
We are thrilled that Dan has accepted the tenor position and look forward to introducing him to our friends!

Daywind Songwriters Receive Title Cut On Kenny Rogers' First Gospel Album
Hendersonville, TN (March 25, 2011) – When Daywind Publishing songwriters, Marty Funderburk and Gina Vera, sat down to write a new song, they had no idea that it would eventually become the title cut on the legendary Kenny Rogers’ first Gospel album. But, nearly a decade after the song was penned, that is exactly what has happened.
In preparing for the release of his Gospel project, Kenny Rogers decided he would like to title the album, For The Love Of God. When Marty Funderburk was approached about writing a song with this title, he recalled that song he had written with Gina many years ago, with the title, “For The Love Of Christ.” The song was sent to Kenny Rogers, who loved it and asked if it could be re-written to fit the title. Marty quickly accommodated his request, and less than a month later, the new version had been recorded and added to the song list as the title cut.
"Gina and I could have never imagined that, 10 years after we wrote that song, it would end up criss-crossing the globe on such a monumental project,” relays Marty Funderburk. “We are so grateful to Kenny Rogers and Cracker Barrel® for allowing us to be a part of this album."
The project, which is available exclusively through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, is a collection of inspirational classics that each hold a special meaning to Kenny Rogers. “For The Love Of God” is one of two brand-new songs recorded for the project, the title of which was eventually shortened to The Love Of God, and features guest appearances by Point of Grace, the Whites and Winfield’s Locket.
Marty Funderburk has received multiple Dove Award nominations, including this year’s nominations for “Run And Tell” by the Bowling Family and “Blaze Of Glory” by Chigger Hill Boys & Terri.
The Love Of God released on March 7th, 2011 and debuted at #8 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Kenny Rogers has celebrated numerous country and pop hits through his career, including “Lady,” and his duet with Dolly Parton, “Islands In The Stream”. “The Love Of God” is the second project he has released through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, following the 2010 release of “Kenny Rogers: 50 Years.
In addition to the writers mentioned, Daywind Music Publishing is home to such great writers as Gerald Crabb, Ronny Hinson, and Dianne Wilkinson, among others. CHRISTY SUTHERLAND: NEW SINGLE “HE GREW THE TREE” BRINGS A WEALTH OF TALENT AND FAMILY HISTORY TO GOSPEL RADIO & RETAIL
Barbara Mandrell Comes Out of Retirement To Produce New Single & Album
(Nashville, Tennessee) –March 21, 2011 –That Christy Sutherland is on the brink of major artist breakthrough has never been more evident than in the radio release this week of her newest single, “He Grew The Tree.”
The poignantly stirring ballad is a song with a special history. It was recorded in the 80’s by country superstar, Barbara Mandrell. It was Mandrell who, in fact, encouraged her daughter-in-law Christy Sutherland to revive “He Grew The Tree” for Sutherland’s forthcoming new gospel album—Greater Still –and was even gracious enough to go in studio to co-produce the album with Christy.
Notes Barbara: “‘He Grew The Tree’ is one of my top 5 favorite songs. I was the first artist to record it and I cannot think of anything better than having Christy record it—and asking me to produce it! Christy’s stellar vocals and immense songwriting talent have made my job of producing a pure joy. I could not be more proud of her new single or of her upcoming album!”
Gospel radio’s major influencers will this week get a preview of “He Grew The Tree” –in a specially bannered Christy Sutherland priority mailing that will include a personally handwritten note from Barbara Mandrell. The impact at radio is expected to be a strong promotional set-up for the release of Sutherland’s new studio album in early summer.
The heartwarming element of ‘family ties’ to her latest single are not lost on Christy. She notes: “I remember listening to Barbara’s recording of ‘He Grew The Tree’ as a young girl—never dreaming that one day I would be recording the same song with Barbara producing! We never know what God has in store.”
Christy married Matt Dudney—now her manager—and the son of Barbara Mandrell and husband Ken Dudney—in July of 2006. In the five years of their creative partnership Christy has emerged as a major new presence in Christian music— presenting an amazing world-class vocal talent that transcends genres from southern gospel to contemporary and country inspirational formats. She has appeared on a wide range of national television from CBN’s “700 Club,” to TBN’s “Praise the Lord,” to globally televised Easter and Christmas Specials from The Crystal Cathedral’s ‘Hour of Power.’
The Easter Special from Crystal Cathedral will air in April.
With a win in 2009 for ‘Southern Gospel Female Vocalist of the Year’ in the Visionary Awards, Christy Sutherland came back in 2010 with a Diamond Award as ‘Christian Country Female Artist of the Year.’ Her guest star billing over the past three years in the Louise Mandrell Christmas Specials staged at Nashville brought her in front of a diverse audience of new listeners. Christy recently has broadened her reach even further in taping her first Gaither Homecoming special.
A gifted songwriter, major artists such as Sandi Patty, Rizen, The Greenes and Kim Hopper have recorded her songs. The Triumphant Quartet scored a Top 5 hit with her song, Somebody Died For Me. Christy’s God Is In This Place was published in a popular Word Music worship choral and her Cry In The Dark was picked up by Lifeway for a major Christmas musical. During the past four years, more than 40 recordings have been done of Christy Sutherland songs.
Christy Sutherland is already proven as an artist with a remarkable ‘reach’ in a career that has only the realms of greatness to be achieved in the future.
“He Grew The Tree” will be the focal point of special national radio promotions throughout April and May as a lead in to the new album release. Christy Sutherland will be the subject of a major spring promotional media/marketing campaign with national television, radio, and print being set.

The fact is Gold City is alive and well, and will appear this week in Graysville, Alabama (Friday), Lakeland, Florida ( Saturday) and Bradenton, Florida (Sunday)—as well as all dates that have been previously scheduled and the dates that will be added in the future!
