Gary Skelton To Participate In A Very Special Benefit Concert

Nashville, TN (April 29, 2011) –Talented and versatile solo artist, Gary Skelton, will be a part of a very special benefit concert next weekend, May 7th, 2011, at 6:00pm in Church Hill, TN. The event will be held to raise money for an amazing ministry that provides medical care for those who cannot afford it. The organization, Church Hill Free Medical Clinic, staffs volunteer doctors, nurses, and medical staff, and supplies testing, care, and medication to the under privileged.

The concert will be held at Volunteer Comprehensive High School, located at 1050 Volunteer St. in Church Hill, TN. Artists appearing, along with Gary Skelton, are Crystal River Boys, Faith Harvest, and The Brotherhood. All the proceeds of this Love Offering only event will go to the free medical clinic. There will also be snacks and beverages available for purchase.

For Gary, this is a very special ministry. He is not only blessed by the help the clinic provides to the needy, and for the Christian counseling that often occurs as a result of patients conversing with the Christian staff, but he has another special connection to the clinic. The interesting “story behind the story” is that the love of his life, his wife, Barbie, is a doctor, and she offers her services as a volunteer at the clinic on a regular basis. Gary expresses, “I have a whole slew of jokes, as does my wife, about being married to a doctor, but as much as we laugh with each other about life, this serious ministry is very meaningful and serious to our hearts. Church Hill Free Medical Clinic is making a big difference for those in need and we are honored to be a part of it. I encourage everyone to come out and support this cause. It is a good one.”

For more information on Church Hill Free Medical Clinic, visit contact www.ofoneaccordministry.org/free_clinic.htm or call 423-256-2408.

Tornado Response: Billy Graham Rapid Response Team in Birmingham

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,April 28, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team of crisis-trained chaplains has staff on the ground in Birmingham, Ala., assessing the damage from the historic tornadoes that took dozens of lives overnight and ministering to those who were affected.

Chaplains will address the emotional and spiritual needs of tornado survivors in and around Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. According to news reports, there are more than 160 confirmed casualties in Alabama.

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team deployed in coordination with Samaritan's Purse, the international Christian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham, who is also president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

"The swath of devastation that has ripped through the South and brought so much death and destruction is stunning," said Preston Parrish, executive vice president of ministry at BGEA. "The overwhelming sense of loss -- for those who lost their homes, and especially for those who lost loved ones -- will be nearly unbearable
for many. We want those suffering to know that Christ cares for them, that we are praying for them, and we will be standing beside them."

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team is a nationwide network of chaplains across 40 states that are specifically trained to deal with crisis situations. Since the ministry was launched in 2002, it has deployed following more than 100 natural and man-made disasters, including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires and shootings. This recording is great, but their live performance takes the cake!” Group’s founder and tenor singer, Anthony Facello, expressed, “Our hearts continue to be overwhelmed by the love and support being shown to this ministry. Looking across the crowd that gathered last night to celebrate this release with us was truly a humbling experience. Posted by Daniel J. Mount on Apr 27, 2011

Next Tuesday, May 3, Sirius/XM will be removing enLighten from their satellite service and from Dish TV. It will remain, but as an online-only channel. If you are a Sirius/XM subscriber and want to see Southern Gospel still represented, let them know here:

From: Paul Heil's The Gospel Greats Program [mailto:paul@thegospelgreats.com]
Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 2011 9:36 AM
Dear The Gospel Greats Program listener:
Recently you told us you hear our broadcast each week on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. We have been delighted to find out how many people – a steadily-growing number – have been finding our program and listening each week on satellite. Many of you have told me in the past that you subscribed to satellite radio specifically to be able to hear the Southern Gospel "Enlighten" channel while you travel – or even at home.
Unfortunately, we have just learned that Sirius/XM will be discontinuing the Enlighten channel – which carries The Gospel Greats program – effective Tuesday night, May 3rd – at midnight (Eastern) on their satellite service. It will be removed at the same time from the associated Dish TV channel.
This is part of a major restructuring by Sirius/XM to realign channels on both their Sirius and XM services. But it is also intended to accommodate government-imposed requirements (related to the Sirius - XM merger) to provide channels for public service use. Some organizations, colleges and the Mormon church have been given these channels, according to press reports.
Only an immediate outpouring of protests from subscribers such as yourself brings even the possibility of a reversal of this decision.
Marlin Taylor, director of the Enlighten channel, provides this information:
___
To reverse this decision requires immediate action by everyone who will be impacted by this action. Make a telephone call, send an e-mail. Yet, by far, the most effective means will be to write and mail a letter – or use all routes.
Here's the contact information:
Telephone calls –
If a Sirius subscriber, call Sirius Customer Care at 1-888-539-7474.
If an XM subscriber, call 1-800-XM-RADIO or 1-877-291-5304.
You can send emails to customercare@siriusxm.com.
By mail, send a letter or postcard to one or both of these gentlemen:
Mr. Scott A. Greenstein
President, Programming
Sirius XM Radio
1221 Avenue of the Americas, 36th Floor
New York, NY 10020
Mr. Mel Karmazin
CEO
Sirius XM Radiio
1221 Avenue of the Americas, 36th Floor
New York, NY 10020
Remember, while you can be firm in your statements, always be Christ-like in what you say and write. And....pray, pray, pray!
Again ... to cause this action to be rescinded, a rapid and en masse action is necessary. Then, we must step back and see what our Lord is going to do, how He is going to use this "situation."
In any case, please comment on the announcement that Enlighten is to be removed from the satellite service and, if it's removed and not restored, you wish to cancel your subscriptions (if you, in fact, do).
___
Here is some additional information...
Sirius/XM, on their website, notes that anyone wanting to listen to Christian music can still do so. They have a Contemporary Christian music channel and a Praise & Worship channel. These channels, of course, do not include Southern Gospel music, so they're really missing the point here.

AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR ANDREW PETERSON TO RELEASE THIRD CHILDREN’S BOOK

BOOK IS THIRD IN THE WINGFEATHER SAGA SERIES THE MONSTER IN THE HOLLOWS MAY 24, 2011

Nashville, TN (April 20, 2011) ----- Award-winning author Andrew Peterson is scheduled to release his highly anticipated children’s book, The Monster In The Hollows, on May 24, 2011. The book is the third in the popular four-part Wingfeather Saga, which continues the escapades of Janner Wingfeather and his family as they face a new adventure fraught with mystery, betrayal and sneakery. The Monster In The Hollows, published by Rabbit Room Press, will be available for purchase at all retail outlets and will be distributed through Ingram Book Company. The book will also be available online at www.wingfeathersaga.com, www.rabbitroom.com, www.andrew-peterson.com and all digital outlets.

Peterson began the Wingfeather Saga series in 2008 with On The Edge Of The Sea Of Darkness, which Novel Teen heartily endorsed: “This book was a big—and pleasant—surprise. Andrew Peterson has a wonderfully witty voice. He reminds me of an easier-to-understand Douglas Adams with his satirical style of writing.” The second book in the series, North! Or Be Eaten, won the 2010 Christy Award for Best Young Adult Fiction, and as New York Times bestselling author, G.P. Taylor exclaims, “Peterson deserves every literary prize for this fine book.” Jennifer Trafton, author of The Rise And Fall Of Mount Majestic, gives her accolades to The Monster In The Hollows: “So moving! A fantastic story.”

"One of the great joys of my career has been the writing of these books,” says Peterson. “It's been harder and more rewarding than I ever thought it would be--harder, because writing fiction is almost completely different than songwriting; more rewarding because of the way it's helped me keep alive my inner ten-year-old, both when I'm writing and when I'm talking about the story with other readers. I can't wait to write the next one."

Peterson is also a highly acclaimed singer/songwriter, who is known for his thought provoking lyrics and warm vocal delivery. His latest album, Counting Stars, debuted at #1 on iTunes and #6 on the Billboard chart that broke the record from his previous CD. Peterson’s latest single from the project, Dancing In The Minefields is still strong on the charts after seven months of radio airplay and the video has received close to 500,000 views on YouTube. And this fall, Peterson will host his second annual Hutchmoot creative conference in Nashville. The event spotlights music, conversation, and a series of discussions centered on the telling of great stories in song, literature, and film.

About Andrew Peterson
Peterson began his career in 1996 and signed with his first label, Watershed/Essential records in 1999. His first CD, Carried Along made CCM magazine’s list of Top Ten albums of 2000. In 2004, Peterson received his first Dove nomination for “Family Man” for Country Recorded Song of the Year. Peterson’s first project for Centricity Music in 2008, Resurrection Letters, Volume II, became the highest Billboard charting album of his career at that time. Peterson has also authored three children’s books with the first, The Ballad of Matthew’s Begats, followed by two of the four of the Wingfeather Saga series. The first was On the Edge of the Sea of Darkness and the second received the 2010 Christy Award for Young Adult Fiction, North! Or Be Eaten. Peterson hosted his first annual event with Hutchmoot 2010, a three-day conference for lovers of story, art, and music. The conference sold out in an incredible three weeks. Peterson’s high-profile Christmas Tour continues to also be a sell-out across the country, including the historic Ryman auditorium. NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER IS CONSTITUTIONAL

APPEALS COURT TOSSES OUT CASE AGAINST THE ANNUAL DAY OF PRAYER

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO (APRIL 14, 2011) – Earlier today, a panel of the U.S. court of appeals overturned a ruling that previously found the law requiring the President to proclaim a National Day of Prayer each year as unconstitutional. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, based in Chicago, ruled 3-0 that the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) and its plaintiffs do not have standing to continue their challenge of the 1952 congressional act declaring an annual National Day of Prayer.

According to the appeals court ruling, the proclamation imposes no requirement on a person and therefore no one is hurt by a request that can be declined. "Those who do not agree with a president's statement may speak in opposition to it, they are not entitled to silence the speech of which they disapprove," wrote the appeals court's chief judge Frank Easterbrook, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan.

Shirley Dobson, Chairman of the National Day of Prayer (NDP) Task Force and wife of Focus on the Family Founder Dr. James Dobson, said “I applaud the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. Since the days of our Founding Fathers, the government has protected and encouraged public prayer and other expressions of dependence on the Almighty. Prayer is an indispensable part of our heritage, and as citizens, we must remain faithful in our commitment to intercede for our nation during this pivotal and challenging time.”

Michael Calhoun, Director of Strategic Communication for the National Day of Prayer (NDP) Task Force added, “This is definitely a victory for the free exercise of religion that our Founding Fathers sought to ensure, and we are thankful for the outcome. I can’t think of a time in recent memory when it has been more important to pray for wisdom and direction for our country and its leaders… I hope millions will join the ongoing efforts of our NDP Task Force to that end.”

The 60th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer will take place on Thursday, May 5th – this year’s theme, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” is based on Psalm 91:2: “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Esteemed author and international advocate for people with disabilities, Joni Eareckson Tada will serve as the 2011 Honorary Chairman of the NDP Task Force and will give the keynote address at the national observance in Washington, D.C., to be held at the Cannon House Office Building.

To learn more, or to find a National Day of Prayer event in your community, visit www.NationalDayofPrayer.org

About the National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

Each of the hourly programs features music from today’s top southern gospel artists, encouraging ministry, gospel classics from days gone by, a variety of fun program segments and even artist interviews. Some of the interviews to date have been with Jeff & Sheri Easter, Russ Taff, Guy Penrod, Buddy Greene, Reggie & Ladye Love Smith, David Sutton of the Triumphant Quartet, Kenny Bishop, Larry Strickland of Palmetto State Quartet, Michael Sykes and Stephen Hill.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – April 18, 2011 – Premier Productions posted its busiest 1st quarter in the history of the company. The company wrapped up its 16th successful Winter Jam Tour Spectacular in April with more than 500,000 participants over the course of three months and nearly 50 venues. Hillsong Aftermath Tour
“It has been a whirlwind three months,” said co-owner Roy Morgan, “and it’s not slowing down. We are heading into another busy summertime season with Premier Festivals, as well as an additional 60-70 concert events in the Fall.”

The successful quarter also got a big boost from the first three dates of the ever-popular Gaither Homecoming Tour, not to mention several other concert events and artists.

Gaither Homecoming Tour
“We are honored and humbled to be a part of promoting these fantastic artists, who proclaim the name of Jesus and work for His honor and His glory,” said Gary Gentry, co-owner of Premier.

Premier has promoted and produced more than 2,200 events since its inception in 1996, reaching over 8 million people during that time.

“It is mind-boggling what the Lord is doing,” said Shane Quick, who joined Premier as part owner and vice president of the concert division a few years ago. “We are all about making Jesus known and bringing glory to His name.”

Gary Wilson Presents "Flashbacks"

Hello Everyone! It is so good to be back! I appreciate all of your
prayers and kind comments as I recovered from my auto accident... and
the other problems it caused in my life.

My new show is called Flashbacks. I was actually developing the show
prior to my accident. It is a show unlike anything in Southern Gospel
music today, and I am thrilled to finally be able to bring it to you!
One of my friends in the industry heard an advanced copy of the first
show and wrote, "your new show is a breath of fresh air to this
industry".

Because Southern Gospel has relied primarily on a monthly charting
system, record companies and artists are severely limited to the
number of songs that can be released to radio each year... usually 2
or 3 songs per project. This means the listener is subjected to the
same new song for months on end... which can make Southern Gospel
radio very stale. This show not only features past hits, but also
many songs not released to radio but were performed at concerts.

There is one other difference that makes my show unique. There will
be no song repeats for the at least the next 12 months. That's right!
Every show will feature a different set of songs. The first show is
now available On-Demand at sgusaflashbacks.com. On May 1, 2011, the
second show will be uploaded. Then, every week thereafter, new shows
with new songs will be uploaded.

I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to these older songs again, and I
am sure you will have the same reaction. I welcome your comments
about the show, and hope my former affiliates will inquire about
adding Flashbacks to their program schedule. Enjoy!

It’s all a vehicle to drive others to the love and grace of Jesus. We do see the hand of God opening doors that we never could have imagined. I cannot tell you the times I almost gave up, but the Lord reminded me that He didn’t walk away from what He was called to do, so neither should we. God has provided for us in times of trial and in times of success. My heart is overwhelmed with gratitude and we are excited about the future.”

Branson Gospel Music Revival Claims 2011 Pacesetter Award at Absolutely Gospel (SGN) Music Awards

BRANSON, Mo. – (April 14, 2011) – For the second consecutive year, the Branson Gospel Music Revival (formerly Convention) was honored as the 2011 Pacesetter Award at this year’s Absolutely Gospel Music Awards.

The Pacesetter Award honors individuals, companies, artists, events, and the like who raise the standard in the industry during the previous year. Past winners have included such names as the Crabb Family, Daywind Records, Booth Brothers, and artist manager Kathy Hannah. It is the most prestigious award handed out at the awards program, and after its second year as a major concert event in the Southern Gospel Community, the Branson Gospel Music Revival was honored again.

Branson Gospel Music Revival is owned, organized, and hosted by gospel singer Rod Burton and his wife Kelly, working as YMR Music Productions, LLC.

Rod said, “God gave us a vision for this event to make a difference in people’s lives. We’re so honored to have that recognized and supported.”

“The award is even more special to us this year,” mentioned Kelly. “I believe the gospel community is seeing what we’re about: elevating the gospel message above all. Celebrating gospel through song and changing people’s lives with its message is truly our sole purpose for the Branson Gospel Music Revival.”

During the couple’s acceptance speech, Kelly thanked the late Susan Unthank, who founded AbsolutelyGospel.com, for her legacy in the gospel music community. “Susan did not have the time or tolerance for competition,” Kelly said. “There are many fields to plow; we don’t need to fight over them. God has too much work for us to do.”

The Branson Gospel Music Revival was honored to be mentioned in the same category and stand alongside such names like SGN Scoops Digital (of which Kelly is the Editor-in-Chief), This Week in Gospel Music with Mickey Bell, Ernie Haaase and Signature Sound, and Gaither Vocal band.

The Absolutely Gospel (SGN) Music Award nominees were chosen by the staff of AbsolutelyGospel.com (formerly SoGospelNews.com) and select members of the Southern Gospel media and community. Voting was then open to fans to choose the winners.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – (April 13, 2012) – The 2011 Absolutely Gospel Music Awards were handed out last night at a special concert celebration in Smyrna, Tennessee to a standing room only crowd. The award winners were spread evenly throughout the course of the evening as three artists and two producers walked away with three or four awards apiece.

Karen Peck & New River was the big winner of the evening again this year. The popular trio took home another four awards including a second consecutive win for Fan Favorite Artist of the Year. The group also won Mixed Group of the Year and Progressive Song of the Year (for “Why Can’t All God’s Children Get Along”). Group founder and owner Karen Peck Gooch took home the coveted Female Vocalist of the Year trophy.

The Gaither Vocal Band won three awards, including Male Group of the Year. The group’s lead vocalist Michael English took home his second consecutive Male Vocalist of the Year honor as well as Producer of the Year (Artist).

Jeff & Sheri Easter also made out well this year taking home their first ever Song of the Year award for their #1 hit single “Born to Climb.” The group also won Country Song of the Year for “Born to Climb.” Group guitarist and last night’s host Madison Easter walked away with his second consecutive Musician of the Year award as well.

Producer, songwriter, and pianist for Ernie Haase & Signature Sound Wayne Haun was the most awarded individual of the evening. Haun took home awards for producing the Album of the Year and Traditional Album of the Year (Ernie Haase & Signature Sound’s A Tribute to the Cathedral Quartet) and writing the Song of the Year and Country Song of the Year (for the aforementioned “Born to Climb”).

Lari Goss, who co-produced A Tribute to the Cathedral Quartet, took home two awards for that recording as well as Producer of the Year (Professional) for a total of three individual awards throughout the night as well.

The biggest award of the evening – 2011 Pacesetter Award – was handed to the Branson Gospel Music Convention – one of the Southern Gospel industry’s newest and most impressive multi-day events. This was the second consecutive year that the Branson Gospel Music Convention won this prestigious award.

Ernie Haase & Signature Sound and songwriter Joel Lindsey (co-writer of “Born to Climb”) won two awards throughout the evening as well.

The staff of AbsolutelyGospel.com and the Unthank family introduced a new award to this year’s program – the Susan Unthank Memorial Award. This new award will honor women who have worked in this field of music and made a resounding impact on Southern Gospel music. The very first recipient of the Susan Unthank Memorial Award was veteran booking agent Beckie Simmons Bates.

The event was hosted by Madison Easter and Devin McGlamery. The evening featured show-shopping performances from the Booth Brothers, Karen Peck & New River, Triumphant Quartet, Jeff & Sheri Easter, the Bowling Family, The Nelons, Sisters, Beyond the Ashes, Three Bridges, The Dunaways, Crystal River, Crawford Crossing, and sponsors the Mystery Men Quartet.

“With the passing of my wife and site founder Susan earlier this year, it made it extremely difficult to do this show without her this year,” mentioned Deon Unthank. “However, we knew that she wouldn’t want us to stop, and though it was touch and go for a while leading up to the show, we are so thankful for everyone who turned up and supported us this year!”

The Absolutely Gospel Music Awards are an annual award handed out each year by the staff at AbsolutelyGospel.com. Each January, the staff decides upon the nominees in over twenty categories. News from Rick Alan King

AN OPEN LETTER FROM RICK

As many of you might already know my music ministry has been hit head on with the devastating news that my wife, Lana, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Due to this horrible thing, my music ministry is suffering greatly. I have not been able to do any booking or future planning till we find out what lies ahead for Lana and me. As of now, Lana is going to have to undergo 6 straight weeks of radiation treatments on a daily basis. Due to her prior and ongoing health issues (COPD) we, and the doctors, have opted to not take chemo therapy. I have had to cancel some long distance concert dates and other music related conventions and meetings. I have also had some back problems lately and can’t lift the heavy sound system equipment and my transportation (the big white van) is showing some wear and tear.

With all of that said, please know that I have always tried to use any ministry finances wisely that the good Lord has provided, but this latest set back has put the brakes on any financial income and the budget is totally depleted.

I also realize that there are many other music ministries and people that are suffering as well due to the sluggish national economy and some churches/pastors and promoters are cancelling dates and not booking concerts because people are giving less, understandably so.

I am not going to be able to travel anywhere beyond three to four hours of the Nashville TN area for quite a while and to be quite honest, I rarely appear anywhere within the Nashville area. I am in need of help on this matter more than ever before.

So what I am trying to say is that, I, (we) are in need of help in any way you can, financially, booking and last but certainly not least, prayer. The later is by far the most important, not just for me, but for everyone, anywhere, anytime and anyplace and for whatever life deals them.

There is a verse from a great Dottie Rambo song “Too Much to Gain to Lose,” that says, “I’ve crossed the hot burning desert, struggling the right road to choose. Somewhere up ahead there’s cool clear water, and defeat is one word I won’t use.” I plan on holding on to that last line with ever fiber of my being.

Please pray for Rick Alan King Music Ministries and Lana’s health issues and I promise that Lana and I will return the favor. It’s our duty as Christians to do so!

Rick

P.S. My song, “Don’t Cry For Me” is still doing great on Christian radio. Please call your local Christian radio station and request it. What a song of healing and hope in dealing with the death of a loved one.
