The Dixie Melody Boys Announce New Lead Singer

The Dixie Melody Boys announced a few weeks ago that they would be accepting demo’s for the lead singer position. They also stated that the new member of this legendary group would be introduced on the main stage at this year’s convention. Over the course of three weeks the group received over 300 applications.

“It was an overwhelming response. We didn’t expect so many men to apply. It proved to me that there is a lot of talent in Southern Gospel music. As we stated, our plan was to audition several men, take them on the road with us and then announce them in September. Sometimes plans change.“Stated Matt Felts.

“As I was going through demo’s a voice begin to sing and I knew we had found our next lead singer. Ed listened to his demo and agreed. The moment we met Mike Rogers and heard him sing with us we knew God had brought us the right fit.” added Matt.

“Mike started with us the next weekend. The fans have already shown us that we made the right choice. We debuted him at the Absolutely Gospel Fan Fest and Frank Arnolds Songfest in Jackson, TN. After the response he received we knew it wouldn’t take long for word to get out online so we altered our plans and decided to move up our announcement. When God moves, you go with it. Mike is a great talent and we are proud to have him.” said Ed O’Neal.

Mike Rogers comes to the Dixie Melody Boys from Sandersville, GA. He was a member of Kindred Spirit. Mike has a wife named Bekki and they have a beautiful three year old daughter named Coraline. He will be moving to Kinston, NC this week. “It still feels like a dream. I am so excited to be a part of this group. I’m looking forward to all that is in store.” said Mike Rogers.

The fans of Southern Gospel music will have several great chances to hear the Mike as the group will be featured at many of the summer’s largest events including Silver Dollar City, the James D Vaughn Quartet Festival, the Albert E Brumley Sing and the National Quartet Convention.

The Dixie Melody Boys will be in the studio shortly to begin wotk on their Sophomore project with Song Garden Music Group. “We are excited to get back in the studio, this project is shaping up to be special. Jason Crabb and David Staton will be producing it so it’s starting off on the right track.” Said Steven Cooper.

“We want to thank each person that applied. We are honored that so many men wanted to be a part of our ministry. “ said Matt Felts.

Kevin Mills Signs with Grapevine Records

NASHVILLE, TN: Song Garden Music Group announced today that Kevin Mills of Chesapeake, VA is the newest addition to the Grapevine division of Song Garden Music Group.

Kevin, who has a long history in music and ministry, will soon be the next release on the label.

According to Song Garden Music Group V.P., David Staton, “Kevin has one of those rich, deep voices that remind me of some of today’s most popular country music artists such as Trace Adkins, Josh Turner & Tennessee Ernie Ford and the music he has chosen to make up this project is the perfect combination to make him a fan favorite”.

The project will feature some popular songs that have been reborn with a fresh new sound as well as brand new, original music.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better experience or a better project. From the beginning of preproduction, the folks at Song Garden helped me in focusing on the vision for this project and for my ministry. It was evident that they were more interested in just doing a recording, they have truly helped me in so many areas of what I do”, stated Kevin.

The new project by Kevin Mills, titled, “Travelin’ Through” was produced by David Staton and is scheduled to be released in mid to late August.

National Quartet Convention Announces the NQC Music Awards Nominees

Louisville, KY – The National Quartet Convention has announced the 2012 nominees for the NQC Music Awards. In partnership with the Southern Gospel Music Guild, the NQC will present these awards on Friday afternoon during the Friday afternoon Showcase Spectacular in Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY, on September 14.

According to the NQC Executive Vice President, Clarke Beasley, the awards will be presented based on both fan popularity and professional excellence, with two divisions of awards that will be presented. The first division is the Fan Awarded categories where awards will be determined by fan voting.

The second division will be the Industry Awarded Categories, which will be determined by the music professionals that participate as exhibitors during the National Quartet Convention. No purchase was required for those that are participating in the voting. All that was required is that they were registered on the NQC e-mail list prior to July 1st.

Beasley also states that the Southern Gospel Music Guild is an important partner in this process, as the SGMG is responsible for determining the category criteria, as well as screen entries for eligibility. Beyond The Ashes Lead Singer, Casey Rivers, Shares A Grateful Goodbye...

Beyond The Ashes Lead Singer, Casey Rivers, Shares
A Grateful Goodbye...

Nashville, TN (July 24, 2012) – Beyond The Ashes lead singer, Casey Rivers, has expressed his departure from the group. While parting is sweet sorrow, this decision is based on his growing family and the kind of season change that comes along with it. Casey and his precious wife, Doni, will be welcoming baby number three in just a few short months.

Anthony Facello (ministry leader and tenor singer) shares, "Saying goodbye to Casey is truly like saying goodbye to a brother. He is and will always be an intergral part of all God is doing in our midst. He will remain in our lives as our brother in Christ and friend, and that will ease the ache of this transition a bit, but still in all, it's tough to let him go. We do completely support his heart, gifts, and all that God has for him in this season of change. And, at the same time, we are seeing God move in incredible ways in bringing us a new singer and we are excited about what's ahead. No one can replace Casey, but that's the wonderful thing about God's plans. While Casey is being faithful and blessed in his new ministry endeavors, God is opening a door for someone new to share in ministry with Beyond The Ashes. I love how He works!"

Casey expressed his departure from Beyond The Ashes with this open letter; "For more than three years now I have been blessed to be one of those three singers that make up what many have come to know as Beyond The Ashes. Saying goodbye to family, and all I've grown accustomed to, is not an easy thing, but nevertheless, a new season has come for BTA and for me. I am 100% supportive of my brothers, and I know they are of me, as we all begin this new journey we're embarking upon. Also, to pacify any wondering minds, I just want to clarify that I am leaving on an incredibly good note. After much prayer and discernment, I decided this was the best decision for me and my growing family. Most of all, I'm confident that it is God's will for us. Thank you Anthony, Kellan, Dusty, Rob, fans, friends, and most importantly God for the awesome ride! Love you all..."

An announcement about the new lead singer for Beyond The Ashes is coming soon! They covet your prayers during this time of transition and hope to see you all on the road soon.

Gold City News and Response to Colorado Shooting

WEEKEND REWIND

It was a great, but busy weekend for Gold City. We started out in Smyrna, TN, with all the Unthanks at the Absolutely Gospel Music Festival, where we sang with several of our gospel music friends. Then it was two days in the studio to work on some new music. Saturday, we headed over to Jackson, TN for a great night with the folks at the Civic Center there at the annual Songfest, before wrapping things up at Tuscaloosa, AL on Sunday. Gold City is blessed to be able to do what we love to do–sing to great folks like you all across the country.

This is an annual concert, and this year’s event will be Thursday-Saturday, July 26-28. Gold City will be performing on the all-quartet night on Saturday with our buddies, The Kingsmen and the Mark Trammell Quartet. Host group the Kellys will also be performing and the weekend will be emceed by Josh Franks. The historic Crockett Theater will be the place to be for this great weekend of gospel music. BIG NEWS AT NQC

You read it here first!! As most of you know, Gold City will once again be a part of the events in Louisville, KY during National Quartet Convention week. One of the three nights we will be performing is the ALL-QUARTET night on Wednesday, September 12th. For this evening’s concert set, Gold City is asking YOU to get involved. We want you to let us know what songs you would like to hear that evening. You will be creating our set list. It’s simple. Just email us the three songs you would like to hear us sing on Quartet Night, and we will take the top vote-getters and make that our song set for the night. Maybe you want to hear a classic like Midnight Cry, In My Robe of White or When I Get Carried Away. Or maybe you want to hear newer hits like I Cast My Bread, the recent chart-topping Peter James and John, or our latest single, Lord of Life. Perhaps you’d like a mixture of new and old. Just let us know. Send your entries to goldcitynqcsongs@gmail.com.

MORE NQC SPECIAL EVENTS

We have some additional things in the works for NQC that we’re still putting the finishing touches on. More information will be available soon, but you won’t want to miss the historical significance of this year’s NQC for Gold City. Keep reading our weekly newsletter for details as they unfold.

DANNY’S FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God whose ways you may not understand at the time." - Oswald Chambers

THE WRAP-UP

It’s been a week of tragedy in our nation. Our hearts mourn at the horrific events that took place in a Colorado movie theater this past weekend. Dear friends, we live in a world that desperately needs Jesus, and that makes what Gold City does even more important. We must spread the gospel no matter how we do it. It may be a pastor’s message, a quartet’s song, or some individual life like yours that lets the light of Christ shine upon everyone you meet. But everyone has a mission field. Hopefully, you have found yours and are doing all you can to reach the lost. As we pray for our nation, let us all resolve to live for Jesus every day in everything we do.

IBMA World of Bluegrass Fan Fest September 24-30, 2012

IBMA's WORLD of BLUEGRASS to include star-studded FAN FEST headlined by Del McCoury Band; Will The Circle Be Unbroken 40th anniversary celebration;sessions with Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush & Rodney Dillard ...and much, much MORE!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Though it’s still in the works, the 2012 WORLD of BLUEGRASS in Nashville, September 24-30, 2012, already includes an enticing itinerary of unforgettable bluegrass events: a star-studded Fan Fest featuring more than 60 acts, headlined by The Del McCoury Band; intriguing panel discussions and presentations in the week-long business conference; and a very special 40th anniversary celebration of Will The Circle Be Unbroken, a landmark recording that helped put bluegrass music on the international map.

Produced by the International Bluegrass Music Association, World of Bluegrass is a cornerstone event that draws casual fans, working musicians, and industry tradespeople for a week that includes something for everybody in the bluegrass community: a business conference, trade show, panel discussions, tributes, masters’ workshops, a fiddle contest, a golf outing, an awards show, a festival, and jamming all week long.

Some of bluegrass music’s superstars will appear in the tribute sessions, panel discussions, and educational seminars being planned for the
WOB business conference. Highlights include…
§ On Monday, Sep. 24 at 1:30 p.m., the conference kicks off with a keynote speech by Missy Raines and Chris Jones.

§ The week continues with a session on Creative Music Arrangement featuring Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Bill Evans, and moderator Harry Stinson.

§ Claire Lynch, Buddy Greene, Ricky Skaggs, and Chris Jones will participate in The Doc Watson Hour, remembering the late guitar innovator with some of his own music.

§ An intriguing session called Pioneers & Explorers will feature musicians Pete Wernick, Tim Stafford, and Sierra Hull as they embark on a musical adventure that compares and contrasts traditional and progressive bluegrass styles.

§ “Doug's Tune”: Remembering Doug Dillard will include memories and stories from Kathy Chiavola, John McEuen, and Rodney Dillard.

On Wednesday, September 26, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., IBMA’s World of Bluegrass business conference will include a celebration, discussion and Q&A session dedicated to Will The Circle Be Unbroken. Released in 1972, this landmark recording brought Mother Maybelle Carter, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Merle Travis, Vassar Clements, Bashful Brother Oswald Kirby, Norman Blake, Jimmy Martin, Roy Acuff, and others into a studio with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, a popular country-folk-rock group, to record a triple album that made music history. The recording was an irresistible bridge to bluegrass and traditional country music for rock audiences. Hosted by John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the celebration will also feature remarkable, rarely-seen photographs of the recording sessions, most shot by producer William McEuen.

World of Bluegrass ends each year on a high note with Fan Fest, a huge three-day indoor bluegrass concert at the Nashville Convention Center from Friday, Sep. 28 - Sunday, Sep. 30. 2nd Generation Requests Prayer

From 2nd Generation Email Newsletter July 26, 2012:

Asking for everyone to pray for 2nd G over the next few weeks. We need a financial blessing. We have a new CD about to be released, we have 3 conventions coming up, & we will be on the road for over 3 weeks. That means a lot of money going out.. So we need a blessing..We have CD expense, booth rentals to pay, 2 hotel rooms for over 3 weeks, food and fuel...Can I get an AMEN!!!! hahhaha

We titled our new CD Faithful because he has always been FAITHFUL to us every single time we needed anything. We are not one of the groups that gets thousands of dollars for every concert/service so at times like this we have to have EXTRAVAGANT FAITH....
We know that God is our provider and we are trusting him. He has ordered our steps, he has opened the door and we will go. It is about that lost soul receiving Jesus Christ as their savior. It is about the one that is ready to give up and they receive a blessing from our Lord and they are able to hang on. It is about someone receiving a healing or being delivered from strong holds.

We know that we are called for such a time as this and we are ready to do what he has called us to do.
Pray for 2nd Generation. Pray for our travels, and for FAVOR in everything that we do.

If you feel lead to support 2nd G with a love offering you may do so by going to our website and clicking on the donate button. We are a 501 c3 Company and every donation is tax deductible. We are so thankful for all of our FB family & friends & we appreciate your prayers. We will be posting pics and videos from the road so be watching.. Remember to call your local Southern Gospel radio station and request our new single One More River. Thanks friends.. Be blessed & highly FAVORED!!!!!!!

It's great to be back on the bus again! We had a great time in Red Deer, Alberta, at Canada's Gospel Music Celebration, and the cooler weather on the Alaska Cruise was simply awesome! Getting back on the bus is like coming home...not to mention that all of us have gotten used to sleeping with the hum of the engine as background noise! So... let's get rolling!

I'm actually writing this Update while we're sitting in a Culver's restaurant somewhere in Central Illinois. We're headed toward our first concert of this trip, in Bourbonnais, IL. Check out this week's schedule below. If you live in Illinois, Kentucky, or Northern Georgia, we would love to see you!

Let's Roll To...
Thursday - Bourbonnais, IL

And The Nominees Are...
The Nominees for the NQC Music Awards have been announced, and Greater Vision has received nominations in seven different categories! Our thanks to those of you who registered to vote in this year's Awards!

The final ballot has been emailed to those who registered their email address on the NQC Website, so if you want to vote on the final ballot, check your email inbox. While you're there, be sure to "Like" our page, if you haven't already! Facebook is a great place to keep up with us, and to meet other people who enjoy the same kind of music you do!

If you would like a FREE brochure for next year's In Touch Alaska Cruise, give Christi a call in the office, and she'll put one in the mail to you as soon as we have them in the office. You will LOVE it! There's no other place like it on earth!

I think the fine folks here at Culver's are ready to close up shop, so I need to log-off their internet service and head back to the bus! Thanks for taking the time to read our Updates, and for your very kind comments about them, when you see us in concert. This is a great way for us to keep in touch with you, and to let you know about what's happening with us.

As always... we really appreciate your prayers and your friendship!

Have a blessed remainder of the week!

From Gold City's Email Newsletter July 18, 2012

WEEKEND REWIND

We had quite a time at Tony Gore’s Smokey Mountain BBQ last Thursday. Ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken–there’s not a bad item on the menu. And when you pair great food with southern gospel quartet music, it’s gotta be good. Tony fed us like we’d been starving for three weeks, and sent us on our way with all sorts of goodies, including the most incredible, from scratch, banana pudding with meringue two inches thick! We would like to make a disclaimer that, although we did eat a lot, we are not responsible for the recent rise in pork and beef prices in East Tennessee–at least we don’t think we are! In all sincerity, a special thanks to Tony for his continued efforts to showcase gospel music at his wonderful restaurant. That evening was the start to a super weekend tour that took us to both of the Carolina states, then back to Tennessee for two Sunday services. We love singing to great folks all across the country, and this week it was a pleasure to be on the bus. We want to give a special shout out to Pastor Chris Moody for the great message and hospitality at South Cleveland Church of God in Cleveland, TN on Sunday morning!

GREAT BIG WEDNESDAY

The Gold City bus is stopping in some exciting places this week! Wednesday, July 18, we will be with all the Unthanks at the 13th Annual Absolutely Gospel Music Fest held at River of Life Church in Smyrna, TN along with Beyond The Ashes, Crystal River, Freedom, and Buddy Jewel. This is going to be a great evening of music FREE to the public! We can’t wait!

SATURDAY AT SONGFEST

Once again, Gold City is honored to be a part of Frank Arnold’s Songfest in Jackson, TN. We’ll be featured on the final night of this annual event, and will be with our friends Dixie Melody Boys, Gordon Mote, Mark Bishop, Aaron Wilburn and the Arnolds. We may even make a stop at Casey Jones Village before we head over to the Civic Center. For all the latest Gold City bus stops, check out our schedule below, visit our website at www.goldcityqt.com or check out our complete list of dates at our booking agency website, www.bsaworld.com.

GOLD CITY RETURNS TO JAMES D. VAUGHN QUARTET FESTIVAL

Once again, Gold City will be in concert at the James D. Vaughn Quartet Show held in Lawrenceburg, TN, the birthplace of southern gospel music. This year’s event will be Thursday-Saturday, July 26-28. Gold City will be performing on the all-quartet night on Saturday with our buddies, The Kingsmen and the Mark Trammell Quartet. Host group, the Kellys, will also be performing and the weekend will be emceed by Josh Franks. The historic Crockett Theater will be the place to be for this great weekend of gospel music. For tickets or more information, call 1-800-547-6500.

‘OCTOBER BABY’ NOVEL—IN STORES SEPT. 1

CNN Ranks ‘October Baby’ Among ‘15 Most Impressive Box Office Performances’ for 2012

ASHVILLE – July 18, 2012 – OCTOBER BABY, a limited-release indie film, surprised moviegoers and critics alike when, against stiff competition, it opened this February at No. 8 at the box office. The film’s sensitive story about the value of life—wrapped in humor, romance and drama—earned it a spot among CNN’s 15 Most Impressive Box Office Performances for 2012.

Now, on Sept. 1 from B&H Publishing Group, comes the hit film’s novelization. Fans will be eager to know that October Baby the novel delves deeply into characters’ backgrounds, taking readers on an extended journey through their lives, and still packs the movie’s emotional punch and entertainment.

“In October Baby the novel fans and newcomers get the same charm, the same uplifting story, with a whole lot more,” B&H Acquisition Editor Julie Gwinn said. “The deeper journey with these characters moves closer to the tagline for both book and film: ‘Every Life Is Beautiful.’”

October Baby is written by New York Times best-selling author Eric Wilson and the film’s co-writer Theresa Preston. Wilson is well known to Christian fiction readers for his novelization of the hit films from the Kendrick brothers, Fireproof, Facing the Giants and Flywheel. He also writes original novels at the intersection of the spiritual and physical worlds. For first-time screenwriter Preston, October Baby extended her passion to create stories that move and inspire.

October Baby is the inspiring story of Hannah, a college student whose rising anxiety and sudden physical collapse uncover surprising news about her birth. Hannah learns from her parents that she was adopted, having survived a failed abortion attempt. Bewildered and angry, Hannah turns to her oldest friend, Jason. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, she joins his friends on a road trip, now her journey to find her hidden past and hope for the future. Along the way, Hannah finds that every life is beautiful, and that life can be far more than anything we plan.

The film that inspired the book made it to CNN’s Impressive Box Office list alongside megahits such at THE AVENGERS and THE HUNGER GAMES. CNN said, “The film surprised analysts with an eighth-place finish in its debut weekend, after earning $1.7 million from 390 theaters. . . . what makes OCTOBER BABY’s run so impressive is that it reached that level with minimal media attention and no buzz in New York or Los Angeles, where many indies thrive.”

October Baby is a trade paperback book; it will be available at Christian retailers nationwide and online. Suggested list price is $15.99.

Founder of NewFolkRadio Launches $999 Start-Up Package for Folk and Bluegrass Artists

(PORTLAND, OR -- July 18, 2012) -- NewFolkRadio.com, an online interactive radio station that streams folk, roots, and bluegrass music 24/7 without subscription fees, has announced a bargain start-up package for folk and bluegrass bands.

"It's an expensive process to record a CD, get a cover designed, get the CD to radio stations, get a video shot, and so on," according to John Hart, founder of
NewFolkRadio.com. "It can run between $10,000 and $20,000," he said. "That's just too much for a start-up band or soloist, so NewFolkRadio has launched a sister
site titled StudioMotion.biz that features a low-priced start-up package starting at $999, designed exclusively for folk and bluegrass artists."

The StudioMotion start-up package contains most everything a band or soloist would need to get a career going, from recording a 5-song EP, to cover design, photography, website design and implementation, website hosting, video production, etc. Details are available at StudioMotion.biz.

"This isn't a gimmick," Mr. Hart said. "It's a genuine offer to help folk and bluegrass artists get started in their pursuit of fans. Bands who have a sophmore CD issued could also take advantage of this offer," Hart said. "We want to help anyway we can."

Mr. Hart has 20 years experience in all phases of music and video production, as well as web site design, including software and server programming. He will personally execute every aspect of the start-up package.

StudioMotion is located in Portland, Oregon, but bands or solo artists outside of Oregon could make arrangements to travel to Portland and take advantage of this
opportunity.

NewFolkRadio.com is an organizational member of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), and a signatory to ASCAP and BMI. The newely redesigned NewFolkRadio website does not require any plug-ins whatsoever for listening online.

From The Perrys Online Newsletter, July 18, 2012:

Hey Everybody!!!

Yes, we are still a live!! We know it's been forever since you've heard from us, but it seems time just gets away from us day by day! But, everyone is doing well and kicking! :0)

We will start by bringing you up to date on what's been going on and some new product that has been released lately.

One exciting thing that happened back in April of this year, happened at the Gospel Music Association Dove Awards in Atlanta, GA. The Perrys won their first ever Dove Award for Southern Gospel Song of the Year with CELEBRATE ME HOME, written by Wayne Haun and Joel Lindsey!! We were in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Singing in the Sun when we received the call that it had won! We were BEYOND excited! Celebrate Me Home (Blue Skies project) was also nominated in the top 5 over-all GMA Song of the Year along with Casting Crowns, Jason Crabb and Laura Story. This was truly a blessing from God and all praise, glory and honor belongs to HIM!

For the first time in six years The Perrys have finally released a brand new DVD, recorded live in Nashville, TN at Oak Tree Studios, CELEBRATE ME HOME. This DVD has songs from a mixture of our recordings. Some of the songs are: Plan of Salvation, Potter Knows the Clay, Great is Thy Faithfulness, Celebrate Me Home, If You Knew Him, Every Time I Need Him and others. This DVD contains interviews from each member of The Perrys along with behind the scenes stories. Celebrate Me Home is now available from our website: www.perrysministries.com.

Summer is in full swing and that means a lot of big concerts for The Perrys. Here's a couple of some really special concerts!

For more summer concerts, please check out our schedule below or go to our website www.perrysministries.com.

We've received a bunch of email asking about how Tracy's health has been. Tracy is doing incredible! He is coming up on the two year anniversary of his open heart surgery and is a 100 lbs lighter! He has picked back up on golfing and says the movement of the game has helped him work out a lot of the soreness in chest muscles. We give God all the praise for bringing Tracy this far! Thanks for all the prayers!

The Perrys are in the middle of working on a new project set to release in the fall. We will give you more details on the release date, songs and title as we get everything completed. We are hoping to have pre-releases at NQC in Louisville, KY in September. Speaking of new projects, Lib's solo project "JOURNEY" is doing great! She has a single out to radio on "JESUS HOLD MY HAND." Please call your local Gospel station and request this song along with The Perry's new single, Every Time I Need Him which is currently at #4 on the Singing News Charts.

Don't forget the National Quartet Convention is coming up September 10 - 15, 2012 in Louisville, KY. The Perrys will be singing on Monday, Friday and Saturday nights. For more info go to www.natqc.com.

Well, that just about does it for now. We hope to see you at a concert soon! Remember to pray for us daily! We love you and appreciate all your love, prayers and support!

Still Blessed!

Laurie Lewis & Del McCoury to Host 23rd International Bluegrass Music Awards Sept. 27

Laurie Lewis & Del McCoury to Host 23rd International Bluegrass Music Awards

Nominations for the IBMA Awards, the centerpiece of World of Bluegrass week,
to be announced at a special press conference Wednesday evening, August 15, at The Loveless Barn in Nashville.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., July 12, 2012 -- A powerful and delightfully unusual pairing of bluegrass superstars -- Laurie Lewis and Del McCoury -- will host the 23rd Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards this year, on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.

Nominations for the International Bluegrass Music Awards will be announced at a special press conference scheduled for Wednesday evening, August 15, at The Loveless Barn in Nashville.

The IBMA Awards are the centerpiece of World of Bluegrass week, scheduled for September 24-30 in Nashville. Produced by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), the trade organization for global bluegrass music, World of Bluegrass also includes the industry’s Business Conference and Bluegrass Fan Fest.

“I’m thrilled to be invited to co-host the Awards Show with the great Del McCoury!” said singer/songwriter/fiddler Laurie Lewis from her home in northern California. “I predict this will be a very significant and poignant event, as the bluegrass community comes together to recognize and honor its own, and to pay tribute to some of the pioneers we’ve lost this year, including the great Earl Scruggs.”

A two-time winner of the California State Women's Fiddle Championship, Lewis began her career in the mid-1970s as a co-founder of all-female bluegrass band The Good Ol' Persons. She’s worked as fiddle player on the Masters of the Five String Banjo tour with Ralph Stanley; was twice voted IBMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year; and The Oak and the Laurel, her collection of duets with musical co-conspirator Tom Rozum, was nominated for a Grammy® in 1996.

Lewis also contributed songs to the Grammy-winning True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe, and to Grammy-nominated Clinch Mountain Country. Her original tunes have been recorded by Kathy Mattea and Patsy Montana, whose cover of Laurie’s “Cowgirl Song” is the unofficial theme song of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. She’s toured and worked in various configurations over the years, and in 2006 began working regularly with a band she calls “The Right Hands.” Lewis’ latest recording, Skippin’ and Flyin’, an acclaimed tribute to Father of Bluegrass Bill Monroe, features her pals Linda Ronstadt and Kathy Kallick (her old friend and fellow Good Ol’ Person).

“I was excited to be asked to host the IBMA Awards again,” said IBMA Hall of Fame member Del McCoury from his home near Nashville. “With World of Bluegrass moving to Raleigh next year, this might be the last Awards Show IBMA will hold at the Ryman Auditorium, at least for a few years. It's a tremendous honor for me to be co-hosting with my old friend, Laurie Lewis. We haven't had the opportunity to perform or record together much over the years, but she's a great lady and I know we are going to have a lot of fun hosting the show."

Born in York, Penn., McCoury was a briefly a member of Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys, working as the band’s lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in 1963. He performed as a regional artist for some years, and in the 1980s welcomed his sons, Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo), to his ensemble. Today he is leader and patriarch of The Del McCoury Band, a quintet that includes his sons, plus fiddler Jason Carter and bassist Alan Bartram. The band has seen spectacular success in the 21st century, bringing huge new audiences to bluegrass at venues and events like Madison Square Garden, Bonnaroo, and High Sierra, and introducing bluegrass audiences to new music through appearances and recordings with artists as diverse as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Steve Earle, and Phish. Five years ago, McCoury began hosting his own annual DelFest in Cumberland, Md.

At the 2003 IBMA Awards Show, Ricky Skaggs had the pleasure of inviting the Del McCoury Band to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. For those who attended, it was an unforgettable moment. A 2010 recipient of a National Heritage Fellowship lifetime achievement award from the National Endowment for the Arts, McCoury was inducted into IBMA’s Bluegrass Hall of Fame in 2011.

The IBMA Awards Show will be broadcast live on Sirius XM Satellite Radio (Bluegrass Junction, Channel 14) and syndicated to more than 300 U.S. markets and 14 foreign networks, thanks to the sponsorship of Compass Records, Deering Banjos, BMI, the International Bluegrass Music Museum, BluegrassToday.com and 650 WSM AM. Program directors and station managers may sign up to be affiliates online at www.ibma.org.

The International Bluegrass Music Awards are voted on by the professional membership of the IBMA.

News from Mercy's Well

From Mercy's Well Email Newsletter July 12, 2012

We had a great time out in Texas, but it is good to be back home - even if it's only for a few days. Our trip started last Thursday night with a drive to Nashville, TN where we bedded down for the night. This allowed us to spend a few hours Friday morning with our producer and friend, Donna King, and her husband Zane. We were able to get a tour of their new home which includes a brand new recording studio - Flight Studio! We can't wait to get in there and start recording...possibly later this year!!!

After another day-and-a-half of driving, we reached our destination: Perryton, TX. We worshiped all day with the folks at Community Worship Center and truly felt "at home" by the time we left Sunday evening. We had two great services, dinner on the grounds, and Cowboy Sunday all wrapped in one day! Yee-haw! We made a lot of new friends, and look forward to being with them again in the future.

It has finally arrived: Our "Cruise of a Lifetime" departs from Seattle, WA in just 5 short days! Many of our newsletter recipients will be joining us on this special voyage, so we look forward to seeing you! Those of you who could not make this trip, do not despair, because we are already making preparations for a cruise for 2013, and we would LOVE to have you join us!

Not sure if we'll get an update out next week or not, but please keep us in your prayers. We've got a full weekend in NC before we head out to sea, so we look forward to seeing those folks who can come out and be with us!

Have a great week, and God Bless!

In Christ,
Brad, Greg & Kyle

Legacy Five Announces Departure of Glenn Dustin

From Legacy Five's Email Newsletter July 12, 2012:

We are sad to announce Glenn Dustin's departure from Legacy Five. Glenn was an original member of our group. His magnetic personality and stellar bass voice, has endeared him to audiences across the United States, and in other countries, over the past twelve years.

Here is a personal statement from Glenn:

Dear Legacy Five Family,

If you know me at all, you know I am a man of few words, so I'll be brief.

It is with much regret that I am announcing my resignation. Effective immediately, I will no longer be traveling and singing with Legacy Five. I have had the time of my life, traveling the highways with L5, getting to meet so many wonderful people. However, nothing lasts forever. I have been honored to see so many things that I would have never had the opportunity to, apart from L5. I have so many wonderful memories, and I will miss so many people.

Please keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers, and continue to pray for and encourage L5. I will miss those men, and I doubt there will be a day that passes where I don't think of them. I have so many wonderful memories.

In His Grip,

Glenn "Cuz" Dustin

We have already begun the process of searching for a new Bass Singer. We would appreciate your prayerful support, as we trust the Lord to bring us the person He has already chosen to complete our group . Please keep Glenn and his family in your prayers as they begin this new chapter in their lives.

Those interested in being considered for the bass singer position need to submit an MP3 to scottfowler@legacyfive.com
