Mercy's Well News

From Mercy's Well News September 26, 2013:

Fall is officially upon us! Cool, crisp evenings, football games and church homecomings are all in full swing! With the change of seasons also comes a change in seasons for Mercy's Well. As many of you know, nearly two weeks ago we said farewell to longtime MW vocalist, Kyle King. Kyle is pursuing other musical interests and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors. We are so thrilled to officially welcome Dustin Simmons of Dahlonega, GA to our team. Make plans to come see Mercy's Well and meet Dustin when we are in your area.

The last few weeks have been busy! We sang twice at the final NQC in Louisville, KY, including our first ever appearance on main stage in Freedom Hall. It was an exciting week filled with great music, great fellowship, and friends we only get to see once a year. Later that week, we traveled to West Fayetteville Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC for one of those "homecomings" I mentioned earlier and then finished out the weekend in Seagrove, NC. I want to personally thank Bill and Sue Spencer for helping make that evening such a success. They did an amazing job getting the word out. The church was packed and it was a great night! It was that night we officially said farewell to Kyle and debuted Dustin to a Mercy's Well audience. The reception was incredible! Thank you to all who were in attendance.

After rehearsals the following week, it was time for Dustin to fly solo, so to speak, on platform with Greg and myself. This past weekend, we were in services at Freedom Baptist Church in Axton, VA all day long with Pastor Larry Luffman. What a great day and a great first outing for the "NEW" Mercy's Well.

It's almost time to hit the road for this weekend's dates. If we are in your area, please come see us!

I have been reminded of a passage several times this week. It's familiar to us all but it has seemed to ring more true to me over the past few weeks:

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" - Proverbs 3:5-6

Trusting HIM for direction will always take you down the right road.

Have a great weekend!

In Christ Alone,
Brad, Greg & Dustin
Mercy's Well

Kenny Parsons Of Indian Trail, North Carolina Joins The Promise

Indian Trail, NC (September 27, 2013) Folks familiar with Southern Gospel Music around Indian Trail, North Carolina know the voice of Kenny Parsons. He sang regularly as a soloist in the Celebration Choir at First Baptist Church Indian Trail for several years and has a God-given vocal talent that is highly anointed.
Kenny grew up singing almost constantly, and then a few years ago, his voice went silent. Kenny decided to take an extended break from Gospel music. A few months ago, Kenny re-committed his life to the Lord. He felt something was missing and called his long-time friend, Rick Blessing of THE PROMISE to see if he could attend one of their practice sessions. As he sang with the group during rehearsal, the presence of the Holy Spirit was so evident that he was invited to join them at their next engagement in Georgia the following Sunday. Kenny will be joining the group for select dates.
Kenny’s father, Ken, is no stranger to Gospel Music. He is an ordained minister and one of the best Bluegrass banjo players around. There were many people praying for Kenny to return to Gospel Music, but none were praying more than his father and his step-mother Laurae. What are Ken’s thought on Kenny joining THE PROMISE? Ken stated, “ I have prayed for so long that God would stir Kenny's heart to use his anointed voice and talents for God's glory and I am more convinced than ever of God's faithfulness! Kenny has been through allot but the God we serve is greater than all of our storms.”
Kenny and his wife, Mindy have seven children and reside in Indian Trail, North Carolina.
“Kenny’s addition allows him to sing with his long-time friend, Rick Blessing. Rick, Mandy and I, along with our families are thrilled have Kenny with us!” states Debra Carter Peele, founder and leader of THE PROMISE.
The Promise’s most recent Daywind radio release went to #1 nationally on Music to Radio and was a Pick Hit in The Singing News. They are 2012 NQC Showcase Winners and also 2012 Diamond Award Top 10 Finalists. Most recently, they have appeared on TBN. Members of the group are: Rick Blessing, Mandy Wing Foster and founder, Debra Carter Peele.

About The Promise

For centuries Christians have sung praises to our Heavenly Father at important events. In Luke 2:13-14 we find that they sang praises on the announcement of the birth of Jesus Christ and Matthew records in chapter 26 that the Apostles sang during the last supper. The Promise keeps this tradition alive by singing the praises of our Savior in churches and concerts across the land.

Jimmy Yeary Receives CMA Song of the Year Nomination

Nashville, TN (September 26, 2013) “I Drive Your Truck” written by Jimmy Yeary, Jessi Alexander, and Connie Harrington received a nod from the Country Music Association for the Song of the Year Award at the upcoming 47th ANNUAL CMA AWARDS. The Awards will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on ABC-TV at 8pm (ET) on Wednesday, November 6th.

The Number One song on the Country charts was recorded by Lee Brice. Even though he is a prolific songwriter himself, Brice did not write "I Drive Your Truck", however, as he soon as he heard it he knew he had to cut it.

Yeary commented “The story behind this song is so powerful and connects with everyday people's lives and the losses we all endure. This song speaks to everyone”.

Jimmy was also a co-writer on the Martina McBride super hit “I'm Gonna Love You Through It” (Jimmy Yeary, Sonya Isaacs Yeary, Ben Heyslip), Rascal Flats big song “Why Wait” (Jimmy Yeary, Neil Thrasher, Tom Shapiro) and with his wife Sonya Isaacs' inspiration the Heidi Newfield's release of “Stay Up Late” (Jimmy Yeary, Sonya Isaacs Yeary, Ben Hayslip).

Award-Winning Musician and Singer Gordon Mote Releases Album All Things New on New Haven Records

Nashville, TN (September 19, 2013) —- One of the most beloved and respected musicians/singers in the music industry, Gordon Mote, has released his latest project All Things New. The album was co-produced by Frank Rogers (Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker), and Dove-Award winning producers, Wayne Haun and Russell Mauldin. The project features vocal collaborations with such major artists as the Gaither Vocal Band, Trace Adkins, Darius Rucker, Josh Turner, Matthew West, and Scotty McCreery. This is the second album by Mote for his new label, New Haven Records, and the project will be distributed to the faith-based market through Provident-Integrity Distribution.
“I wanted this project to encourage others to let the Lord use the rough parts of their lives for His glory just like He has in mine,” says Mote. “Being born blind, God has given me so many blessings in spite of the setbacks I have had in my life. If we’ll give God the chance to make all things new, He will.”
The powerful ballad, “Faith Like That,” is the first single being serviced to Christian radio, and the heartfelt lyrics were co-written by award-winning songwriters Don Sampson (“Waitin’ On A Woman”) and Jim Brown (“Five O’Clock Somewhere”). A noted songwriter himself, Mote co-wrote four songs on the new album including, “All Things New,” “Sound A Dream Makes,” “For You,” and the autobiographical “Broken Open.” The latter song describes Mote’s personal journey of clinging to his faith to overcome a broken heart and how God can lift us up even during our darkest hours.
“I had a wonderful childhood, but grew somewhat lonely as a teenager as my friends were getting driver’s licenses and leaving me behind,” explains Mote. “Whether you’re blind or not, all of us experience insecurities. I learned that my brokenness made me more open to God’s love as well as more sensitive to the brokenness in other’s lives.”
In spite of what society calls a handicap, Mote has miraculously overcome multiple obstacles with his blindness that include; playing piano at 3-years-old without any professional training, being the first blind student in the country to be accepted into the public school system, graduating high school with honors, receiving a full scholarship to Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL, and graduating from Belmont University in Nashville, TN with Cum Laude honors and a music degree.
Two days after graduation, Mote began touring with Country artist Lee Greenwood’s band, which led to the talented musician touring and recording with such major superstars as Trisha Yearwood, Brad Paisley, Bob Seger, Alan Jackson, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Gaither Vocal Band, and Lionel Richie.
Mote’s keyboard skills led him to being honored twice by the Academy of Country Music for Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year Awards, as well as two Music Row Magazine Instrumentalist of the Year Awards for playing on the most Top Ten albums. Mote has released nine albums as an independent artist, with If You Could Hear What I See earning Mote his first Dove nomination in 2004. Mote remains an active touring act by performing over 150 dates a year.
For more information on Mote please visit his website, www.gordonmote.com and on twitter at @GordonMote.

He believes the most important thing he can do is reach souls and touch the hearts and lives of people through the instrument He gave him, his voice.

Back Home Releases New Song To Radio

Nashville, TN (September 19, 2013) Award nominated family group, Back Home, is releasing a new song to radio that they are extremely excited about.
Penned by renowned songwriters Sue Smith and Don Poythress, “Heavy End Of the Cross” is destined to be another chart topper for this quickly rising Country/Gospel group. Radio seems to really like the Country sound of Back Home so this song should be quickly accepted and move right up the charts.
Songwriter of the Year winner, Sue Smith, stated “My son-in-law (worship pastor in Texas) sent me a quote from the great preacher Charles Spurgeon. It is from his last sermon, which was given to a crowd of young preachers. It moved me deeply, and I knew that I wanted to write a song about the section that begins with "He is always to be found in the thickest part of the battle..." I was blessed that soon after that, I was scheduled to write with Don Poythress, who loved the idea.”
Co-writer Don Poythress said “Back Home has a ministry that touches people, heals and encourages them. I pray "The Heavy End Of The Cross" will bless many.”
During the National Quartet Convention, Back Home was chosen as the winner of their Showcase and got to sing on the main stage on Thursday night. Back Home made quite a buzz during this week. Someone mentioned after their performance that Back Home is the New Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum of SG Music.

2013 National Quartet Convention – A Celebration of Two Decades of Memories

Louisville, KY – The 56th Annual National Quartet Convention is now in the history books. For seven consecutive days, Southern Gospel Music fans from more than 40 states and at least a half dozen countries experienced the city of Louisville, KY, one more time. The week-long event officially concluded on Saturday, September 14, as production trucks were packed, exhibit booths disassembled, cars, vans and buses loaded, and the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center silent once again, marking the end of an era – the end of the National Quartet Convention in Louisville.
Southern Gospel Music’s premier event first moved to Louisville from the city of Nashville in 1994. There were those who were not in favor of the move from Music City USA. Even Convention Board members admitted that the move was quite bold. Louisville’s Freedom Hall held twice as many seats as the Muncipal Auditorim in Nashville, TN, which had been the NQC home for more than a decade. Fortunately, for the NQC Board, fans, artists and industry members, the move proved to be the right one, as the 1994 NQC set record attendance figures, with evening concert attendance more than doubling and the exhibit area nearly quadrupling. Since arriving in Louisville, the Convention has experienced unprecedented growth, with many special events taking place over the past two decades.
Many Convention attendees, including artists and fans have enjoyed all 20 years in Louisville. While bittersweet sentiments could be felt throughout the 2013 NQC, an air of excitement was also present. Memories of Louisville will forever remain in hearts; nevertheless, eager anticipation awaits for those who make preparations to converge upon the city that will soon be the NQC’s new home. According to Clarke Beasley, NQC Executive Director, the final year in Louisville was a great success. “This year many nights had greater attendance than last year, and our subscriber based webcast set an all-time record,” Beasley stated. “Fans attending enjoyed another wonderful year in Louisville, but there is obviously eager anticipation for next year in Pigeon Forge, as advances for next year’s seating and hotel reservations set advance sales records. So we are very excited as the NQC begins a new era.”
The 2013 Convention provided many special memories during it’s final year in Louisville. Many of Gospel music’s most popular recording artists were featured at this year’s event, including multi-award winning recording artists like The Gaither Vocal Band, The Gatlins, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Jason Crabb, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, The Isaacs, Gordon Mote, The Booth Brothers, The Kingdom Heirs, The Hoppers, Greater Vision and The Mark Trammel Quartet. Additionally, the event featured noted speakers such as Ken Davis, Dr David Jeremiah, Dr Johnny Hunt and Dennis Swanberg. As attendees reminisced about the past 20 years in Louisville, they look forward to making many new memories in Pigeon Forge. “I am really excited,” one long-time Convention attendee stated. “I’ve been to Louisville every year, and I attended the Convention in Nashville before Louisville. In fact, I haven’t missed a year since 1983, and I don’t plan to miss being in Pigeon Forge in 2014. Wherever the music is, I plan to go!”
The 2014 National Quartet Convention will take place at the Leconte Center in Pigeon Forge, TN, as Gospel Music’s premier annual event will take place the week of September 21-27, 2013. Visit www.nqconline.com, or call 1-800-845-8499 for complete information.

Daywind Artists Win Major Honors at 2014 NQC Music Awards

(Louisville, KY) – Daywind recording artists and a Daywind songwriter were among the big winners at the 2nd Annual NQC Music Awards held at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville last Friday. Popular mixed group, The Perrys, received the award for Album of the Year for their cd “Through the Night.” Dianne Wilkinson added to her distinguished career by being named 2013 Songwriter of the Year. Brian Free and Assurance received the award for Video of the Year for the music video to their #1 song “I Want To Be That Man.”
In an emotional acceptance, Libbi Stuffle thanked her group for carrying on despite tremendous adversity. Libbi’s husband and the group’s leader, Tracy Stuffle, suffered a stroke early this year and is recovering under Libbi’s care in Nashville, TN.
Dianne Wilkinson graciously thanked the crowd for the award while encouraging the audience. “More than ever, sinners need to be saved; Christians need to be encouraged; the Church needs to be awakened; and God needs to be glorified…and we don’t have long to do it,” exclaimed Wilkinson, who has had several #1 songs in the past year to go along with her past hits recorded by the Cathedrals, Kingdom Heirs, Mark Trammell Quartet and many more.
Brian Free and Assurance’s video director, Scott Godsey, accepted on behalf of the group for their win. “I Want To Be That Man,” was the first #1 single from the album Nothing But Love. The album has since birthed a second #1 song, “Calvary’s Cry.” with the third single, “Nothing But Love” now playing at radio stations nationwide. The group and the recording received seven nominations overall for the NQC Music Awards.
“We are so proud of our artists and songwriters. I see behind the scenes how hard they work and how pure their hearts are. It is wonderful when their fans recognize their efforts in this way,” said Ed Leonard, president of Daywind Records.
Along with these great talents, Daywind Records is home to such artists as the Karen Peck and New River, Greater Vision, Legacy Five, and more. Daywind is distributed to Christian retail by New Day Christian Distributors (www.newdaychristian.com) and to the general market by Select O Hits. 'LINSANITY THE MOVIE'--OCT. 4

JEREMY LIN'S FAITH-FUELED HOOP DREAMS IN THEATERS AND ON VOD
'Jeremy Lin conquered Harvard, the NBA and Sundance.' MTVe

See Official Trailer

LOS ANGELES – Sept. 16, 2013 – Basketball phenom Jeremy Lin’s history-making, record-breaking, breathtaking NBA ascendancy is just as remarkable for its backstory of setbacks and personal faith. And that’s what comes to life—in theaters and on VOD—with the Oct. 4 debut of LINSANITY, a film for anyone who ever rooted for the underdog.

From Director Evan Jackson Leong and narrated by Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-O, Lost), LINSANITY follows an undersized California kid—a child of Taiwanese immigrants—who loved hoops fiercely and refused to give up. It’s also the story of the faith and family that sustained and guided him through physical and societal obstacles, and past heartbreaking setbacks.

“If I learn a lot, if I grow a lot through tough times, that’s part of His perfect plan,” Lin says.

LINK TO OFFICIAL TRAILER

More to the Jeremy Lin Story Than You May Know

Lin was a benchwarmer about to be released by the 2012 New York Knicks—the third team to cut him in two months—when a chance to play propelled him into national headlines and sudden status as an NBA starter and team leader.

But it was just the latest Hollywood-worthy hurdle cleared by the first-ever Asian-American NBA star.

As a high school player in California Lin experienced racial ridicule but led his team to a state title, defeating an “unbeatable” opponent.
Big college programs showed no interest, so Lin attended Harvard with no scholarship, where the basketball coach built his program around Lin.
With no NBA draft, Lin became a free agent, twice signing and getting cut before the Knicks gave him a last chance.
Known for outworking anyone on the court, Jeremy despaired of ever seeing his true chance in the NBA. What kept him going? Faith in God, he says—and it’s a topic he far prefers over the “Linsanity” mania.

Showing the important roles of parents, brothers, pastor and friends, LINSANITY inspires viewers with a young man’s journey—and faith story—through the highs and lows of a life that stands ready to affect many more lives, worldwide, for great good.

"One of the most crowd-pleasing documentaries to play the festival this year." Los Angeles Times

JASON CRABB APPOINTED TO SPECIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR 9/11 DAY OF PRAYER AND REPENTANCE

Sharing The Stage on Worship Around the World Tour With Michael W. Smith – One of Christian Music’s Most Awarded Artists calls America To Pray

Washington, DC (September 4, 2013) – Today, the announcement has been made that Grammy and multi-Dove Award winning Christian recording artist Jason Crabb has been appointed to the Special Advisory Committee of the 9/11 Day of Prayer and Repentance being observed next week nationally. In accepting the appointment to the special committee, Crabb joins a select group of high profile nationally recognized Christian influencers that includes Congresswoman Michelle Bachman, pastor Greg Laurie, actor Chuck Norris and singer Pat Boone, among others.

The 9/11 Day of Prayer & Repentance is a movement that began in April as an editorial column at WND.com by WND CEO and Founder Joseph Farah. Within days the response came from thousands of readers wishing to enlist themselves and their families, church groups, Bible studies and neighbors.

Overwhelmed by the outpouring, Farah noted about the 9/11 call to action: “When America was founded 237 years ago, fellow believers fought to establish and protect the role of God in the fabric of our country. We are a nation originally built on and by prayer. Today, as Christians, we can look around and readily see that our beloved homeland is tragically broken and our culture is breaking down and dramatically moving away from God. Those of us who understand the challenges we face for the very survival of America as we have known it as one nation under God must start planning now to do something radical.”

That something is the 2013 nationwide day of prayer and repentance. .

In noting the announcement of the latest addition to the Special Committee, Joseph Farah noted: “Jason Crabb is a young American who authentically embodies the principals on which the day is based –a consistent passion for keeping God in the center of our daily agenda and for encouraging others through both his witness and example to follow God in prayer and action. We’re extremely honored with his willingness to participate.”

“I’m honored to be involved with the 9/11 day of prayer and repentance," shared Jason Crabb. "I firmly believe that America’s only shining hope is a return to God in the midst of these dark times. I pray this event will help encourage individuals and churches alike to take the time to honor God next week in the observance of the September 11 anniversary.”

Jason Crabb is one of the most highly respected, versatile and talented artists to ever grace a stage. His soulful, heartfelt vocals have made him a critics’ pick and a fan favorite on stages ranging from “The Grand Ole Opry” and the Brooklyn Tabernacle to arena platforms. Crabb is the reigning GMA Dove Awards’ Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the year. With a string of number one hits and chart-topping singles, a tour schedule of over 150 dates annually, and ongoing high-profile TV appearances, this vocal powerhouse’s talent is topped only by his genuine personality and concern for others. Love Is Stronger, his latest release, arrived onto the musical landscape with critical acclaim. Produced by musical heavyweights - Ed Cash (Chris Tomlin,) Jay DeMarcus (Rascal Flatts) and Wayne Haun (Celine Dion) - the 11-track project features Jason at his very best and garnered attention from Entertainment Tonight, The Associated Press, FOX News, AOL Music, The Boot, CCM Magazine, New Release Tuesday and more. Jason has just embarked on the fall leg of his "Love Is Stronger" tour throughout the country and is set to take the stage with Michael W. Smith during his “Worship Around The World” tour in October 2013. Jason lives with his wife Shellye, and daughters Emma and Ashleigh just outside of Nashville, TN.

Hey,
Joseph informed me that he needed to order his class ring. Wow I can't believe he is almost through with high school. It seems like yesterday that I was trying to teach him how to write a cursive E. That took awhile. :-) I am so thankful that God blessed David & I with a wonderful young man!!!
Blessings, Susan

Jeff-

The Tacketts Release New Project “Miracles Never Cease” At NQC

Defiance, OH (September 18, 2013) The Tacketts have released their much-anticipated sixth project titled "Miracles Never Cease” last week at the 2013 National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY. The project is a collection of eight original progressive country Gospel songs and two time-tested tributes, and is titled after the original song written by Jeff's father, Pastor Doug Tackett. The songs were written by some of the best in Gospel Music.

Jeff Tackett stated, “We have never been as excited about working on a CD as we have this one. It was not only special because we recorded a song written by my father but every song will be encouraging to anyone that hears them. John Rowsey did a phenomenal job of producing the project as well as writing two of the songs chosen by us to record. It was recorded at Harvest Studios in Huntington, WV. Vertical Sky Announces Good Changes

Vertical Sky Announces New LAUNCH Strategy
Nashville, TN (September 16th, 2013) In the ever-expanding and changing era of Gospel music radio airplay, Vertical Sky is thrilled to announce a new service for Christian music artists called LAUNCH.

What is LAUNCH? Launch is a radio airplay service, offered by Vertical Sky, geared to send and service Christian music in the genre of Southern Gospel and Bluegrass to the strongest and most comprehensive list of airplay outlets available today. Those include individual stations, networks, syndicated programs, internet radio, and satellite radio programming. After months of research and preparation, the company is thrilled to be ready to help artists do what matters MOST; Get their music HEARD.

LAUNCH is not just a download service. It is a truly AIRPLAY focused service where music will be sent to stations, either by hard copy radio disc and/or download, according to the preference of the station.

Vertical Sky will provide additional perks during the LAUNCH, by first helping choose the right single for radio (which affords the artist’s music the best opportunity for success), setting add dates, striving for adds on those dates, and expansion of airplay opportunities. Additionally, each artist using LAUNCH will have a personalized E-Card download sent to nearly 700 stations, placement on the Vertical Sky website, and placement on Vertical Sky’s exclusive SOUNDCLOUD fan listening page.

This new approach to radio promotion and servicing was born out of years of experience in radio promotion by company founder and president, Donna King. Donna expresses, “I love my radio friends and my artists. More and more, over the years, I have seen that my wonderful charting stations are overwhelmed and inundated with people vying for a TOP spot. I have also seen the emotional pull this effort has on my precious artists, often draining their hopes and dreams, when, all the while, they are doing an excellent job in serving God and reaching people. While I understand the need for an artist’s music and ministry to be validated by chart success, I truly believe this can happen in ways that honor GOD and the efforts of those artists and radio stations. Both entities work hard to do the right thing in the right way. Chart success, and, most importantly, airplay success will happen with good music and strong lyrical content. I am able to testify to that from personal experience. These radio stations listen to their audience and to the heart of GOD. While I understand the LAUNCH approach won’t be preferred by everyone, I think many artists will benefit from this service and will feel grateful to avoid the monthly promotion payments following the launch of a single that leave them wondering if it is making a difference or not. This is a huge leap of faith for Vertical Sky but I believe it will lead many people to a really great place in their radio efforts. I have to be obedient to God. This decision is, for me, an act of obedience. This is not to say that I feel the traditional method of radio promotion is wrong. I think in some cases, and at some times, it is needed (like when a single has traction and needs a boost). I just don’t believe that it is right for everyone, every time.”

In addition to Vertical Sky’s LAUNCH, Donna is excited to be able to spend more time working with ministries on staging and vocal training, as well as her GREAT loves, which are writing and producing music. She, along with her husband, Zane, will begin touring on a limited basis as well.
