In the story, Allyson (Sarah Drew) and her friends long for a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and talk–a long-overdue “moms’ night out.” But to indulge in high heels, adult conversation, and not having to cut anyone else’s meat, their husbands will need to watch the kids for a few hours. What could go wrong?
"Every mom and dad in America–whether they have toddlers, tweens or teens–is going to love this movie,” Heaton said. “It's a hilarious family-friendly celebration of the trials and triumphs of parenting–a joyous affirmation of the world's hardest but most important job."
Drew loves the layered storylines–a family comedy several times over. “And then it’s a full-on love story about two people who already know each other,” she said. “Every mom knows that juggling act. And every audience that sees it says, “That’s my life!”
Co-writer/director Jon Erwin says the best humor begins at home. “My brother, Andy, and I love being dads, and everything in this movie happened to us . . . just last week!”
MOMS’ NIGHT OUT is a Kevin Downes Production of an Erwin Brothers Film. MOMS' NIGHT OUT is directed by The Erwin Brothers, and produced by Kevin Downes in association with Four Boys Films and Pure Flix Entertainment. Retro Reality Check: Finding a Piece of Peace
By Lorraine Walker
There is something about the start of a new year that brings a feeling of restlessness. Maybe it’s the whole resolution thing, maybe it’s the advertisements that tell me I need to get organized, or maybe it’s the knowledge that I can no longer hide the clutter in my house under Christmas decorations. January means that it’s back to routine, time to start on those promises you made to yourself and time to catch up on whatever you put off during the holidays.
In the middle of all this energetic, back-to-reality, stressful living, I often find myself longing for the peaceful moments of watching lights twinkle on a tree or gazing at the face of a sleeping baby in a manger. And I wonder why this seems to elude me for much of the year.
It’s true that often we blame what is happening around us for the lack of peace in our lives when in reality it is the other way around. If we can’t find the peace in our lives, we have to look within for what is causing the disquiet. This is not an easy concept to grasp if you feel like things are spinning out of control and there is nothing for you to hold on to.
It amazes me when God has to smack me in the face with a truth that I’ve learned but have to keep relearning, over and over: I do indeed have control over my emotions, and I am also told to have control over my thoughts. I may have to tell my soul to rejoice, and often it is also an act of my will to experience God’s peace. Paul told us to LET the peace of God rule in our hearts. This tells me that if I am not experiencing God’s peace in my life it is because, for whatever reason, I am not letting His peace rule.
Last month I mentioned that Hope came to earth in a manger. Peace dwells in the same Person as Hope, and these two gifts from God dwell within us the same way. The apostle Paul also said, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
My New Year’s resolution this year? To let peace rule. Before there can be peace on earth, it must first be in me.

Retro SGM Radio: Women of Substance Series Featuring Susan Whisnant
{Editor's Note: This series on the Women of Southern Gospel by Lorraine Walker began in the Fall of 2007 and continued into 2008 on SGM Radio website. We hope you enjoy this feature on Susan Whisnant!)
This month we continue our series on the wonderful women in Southern Gospel Music. Legends such as Vestal and Eva Mae made their mark in the past while current artists like Connie Hopper, Lou Wills Hildreth and Elaine Wilburn continue to make theirs. All of them are women who have raised the bar of talent, faith and substance for those in the next generation.
This “next generation” includes women such as Karen Peck Gooch, Kim Greene Hopper and Susan Whisnant, who are now becoming legends in their own time. These true women of substance have not only developed their own talents, style and sound, they are also known for their Godly walk and their personal standards of morality. This month, SGM Radio had the privilege of talking to Susan Whisnant.
The Whisnants began as a family group over 35 years ago and Susan joined the group when she started dating Jeff. The group became a trio, with Susan, Jeff, and Jeff’s brother John. For over 20 years, this trio has seen few changes in their lineup and minor changes in their sound; but for Susan Whisnant fans, the voice and grace of this lady have made The Whisnants legendary in Southern Gospel.
All of the ladies we have been chatting to this point have been sure of their calling to this ministry from an early age. Susan’s assurance came a little later. “I started singing when I was five, with my Mom and Dad, in a quartet called The Melody Singers in South Carolina”, says Susan. “They traveled extensively in their region. I’d get up and sing a song called, ‘After All’. Then I went to college for two years and I continued to sing with my Mom and Dad. We did a lot of Bible Conferences; but as far as doing this for a living, I didn’t think I ever would.”
Susan continues, “Then I met Jeff Whisnant who had been singing since he was six with his Mom and Dad. We started dating and our hearts meshed, and the desire to do something more with this was very much a part of what we were. It was from that point that we said, “Lord, if You will make a way, we’ll go, we’ll do it. Even if it’s not easy, You just lead the way and we are going to follow. And that’s what we’ve done.”
Susan remembers what it was like when it wasn’t easy and The Whisnants were still a struggling young group. She has these words of advice to offer to new gospel artists. “Thirteen years ago at the National Quartet Convention when my baby was ten months old, we had a little 8x10’ booth, and I could not even afford to put carpet in it. Somebody gave me black and white floor covering that we had to piece together. The only thing we could afford was lawn chairs to sit along the side, just Walmart plastic chairs. And I thought, ‘Lord, thank You for helping us be here. Nobody knows us, but thank You so much for letting us be here’.”
“If I could give advice to any group, it is to be faithful where God has placed you. Even when quitting seems easy and it seems like nobody knows you, little is much when God is in it. And if you will be faithful in the little things, before you can even thank Him; He is giving you greater things. You turn around and you just know that it’s all from Him. I encourage every group to just hang in there and stay faithful.”
Susan shared some of her thoughts on the brand new groups in Southern Gospel. “Paid In Full, the group that won the Horizon Group Award this year, they have just stolen my heart. But there are a lot of really great up-and-coming groups right now. There is some great talent out there”.
Susan’s wonderful talent and expression have won her many fans over the years, and her sweet personality has brought her many friends. Young women entering the industry look up to Susan as one of the female leaders in Southern Gospel. To these ladies, Susan offers this advice: “I’m always amazed when girls tell me they look up to me, because there are many women in the industry that I look up to and it just blows my mind. I think Southern Gospel music is the best music anywhere. I think the Lord requires us to dress our best, to be classy, to present it in such a way that’s appealing to the lost. We don’t need to look like the world to present the best Gospel. That’s just how I feel.”
“I think it ought to be done with class”, Susan continues. “’Lord help us always to remember that we are representing the King!’ [Gospel music] needs our best package all the way around: the best talent, the best singing we can give, and the best dress we can wear. Some people say that doesn’t matter, but we are representing the King, and I sure wouldn’t go to the palace if I wasn’t dressed in my best.”
“It’s an honour to be able to see young kids look up to us, it’s really an honour. But I’m just flesh, and I want people to remember: the only difference between them and me is I hold a mic. We are just like them.”
Susan mentions that there are ladies in Southern Gospel that she looks up to as well. “I’m going to say Karen Peck [Gooch]. Even though there isn’t much age difference [between us], I’ve always looked up to her. She presents herself as a lady.”
“Connie Hopper, to me, last night [during NQC] looked like the Statue of Liberty. She is just so classy. She’s an elegant lady every time I see her, without fail. She’s one of my heroes”. Susan continues, “There are some heroes that have really made an impact on my life, those two especially. If I could be like them, it would be an honour.”
Susan Whisnant is not only known for her talent and class, but also for the compassion and love for others that shines from her eyes. She talks about what the Lord has been sharing with her: “People are hurting. People’s lives are falling apart. And a lot of them are going to leave this concert and go home to broken homes. They are going to go home to kids that are wayward; their husband or wife is going to want a divorce; they are going to face death. With that in mind, there is a responsibility that we have as ministers to encourage them and remind them that God has not forgotten us. He hasn’t forsaken us and He is faithful, even when the way isn’t clear. He is faithful.”
”There are groups as well that are down, and I’ve been there. I know what it is to be there and I’m thankful that God has blessed our faithfulness. Not that we are anything special! But I want to be more tuned in to what it is people are going through. I want people to know that we face it too. We go through the same kinds of things.”
Susan continues, “Jeff’s Dad had cancer this year. My Mom has had double knee replacement surgery. We face it. And I don’t want to forget that either. A lot of people forget ‘from whence they came’, and God forgive us for doing that. We’ve got to stay humble before the Lord.”
Like many women balancing a career and a family, Susan shares about the difficulty trying to be everywhere at once. “Women have the heart to nurture, even though we don’t always do it the best. I love being a mommy. I haven’t found the answer about how to balance everything.”
“I do radio promotion, I home school, travel all the time, keep the house up, wash clothes and go to church on Wednesdays when we are home. It’s hard. I do it one day at a time; one minute, one hour, one second, and I can’t think ahead. And that’s how I manage it. And I just pray for God to give strength, grace and wisdom, and to lead, guide and direct. The Bible says, “The steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord”. Sometimes I just dig in and hang on. Don’t know where I’ll end up, but I’m just going on with Him. Having done all, just stand.”
This very real, classy and strong lady of Southern Gospel has a lot to teach the ladies who look up to her. Susan Whisnant bears the mark of a woman of God who has been willing to submit to the Lord and has become a vessel for His love reaching out to others. A true woman of substance, Susan very deservedly takes her place among today’s generation of Southern Gospel legendary ladies.

Doug Anderson Celebrates The Release of DRIVE
Stow Town Records, LAPEL, IN (January 21, 2014) — Single-digit temperatures outside had no effect on Doug Anderson’s audience inside The Station on Tuesday night; that crowd gladly
chose to “Drive” over snowy roads for an evening featuring the warm voice and memorable songs they’d been waiting to hear.
Doug Anderson—fresh from his GMA Dove Award-winning debut solo recording—kept the momentum going with a CD release party for his sophomore project on StowTown
Records; the event was attended by an enthusiastic hometown Hoosier crowd, faithful fans, and music industry friends from Nashville. The 2012 “Male Vocalist of the Year” (Absolutely Gospel Awards) and radio favorite (three Top 40 radio singles) had to fight canceled flights just to make it back in time for the big night from Hershey, Pennsylvania, where he had been the featured artist for the annual Christian Products Expo. According to Kirk Blank, president of Munce Group and MTL media, “Doug’s performance generated waves of thundering applause, and his ability to weave a story between songs endeared him to the packed crowd of independent retailers.”
Although currently known as a featured vocalist with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound,
Anderson has gained new fans as a country music solo artist, and Tuesday night
he proved again that he is at home in either setting. The high-energy baritone,
along with a live band, kept the crowd happy all night long with a variety of new and
classic songs, including the progressive title song “Drive,” a memorable remake of the Dolly Parton favorite “The Seeker,” the heartfelt “Moment by Moment Grace,” and the contagious first radio single from the project, “Love with Open Arms.” A few highlights from the evening are available athttp://youtu.be/pKzBKmD-rNY and http://youtu.be/nb7RbZkf3QY
Retail stores will carry “Drive” exclusively for two weeks beginning January
21, 2014; after that initial offering, fans will be able to purchase the CD online, in addition to the brick-and-mortar stores. Follow Doug Anderson on Twitter and Facebook for updates on his solo concerts, as well as his tour schedule with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound.

"BEHIND THE SCENE WITH KENNY & FRIENDS" LAUNCHES 3RD SEASON ON 'RURAL TV' AND 'FAMILYNET TELEVISION'
Entertainment Industry Television Show Airs in More than
25 Million Homes Nationwide
Nashville, Tenn. (January 21, 2014) - Today, "Behind The Scene with Kenny & Friends" announced its 3rd season of programming on Rural TV and FamilyNet Television.
“Behind The Scene with Kenny & Friends” is a laid back, “front porch” style interview program highlighting up-close and personal discussions with music producers, recording artists, and renowned songwriters along with many other guests in the entertainment industry. The 30-minute weekly show searches the other side of the music industry, specifically the “talent behind the talent” and the “story behind the song.” Guests range from the up-and-coming hitmakers to talented veterans. Through cable and satellite providers, the show airs in all 50 states (more than 25 million households) every Saturday at 2:30 PM ET and replays every Friday at 1:30 PM ET.
"I’m celebrating over 50 years of being in love….with Country music," says host Kenny Dean. "My older brother was a truck driver and still is, so I remember first listening to an AM radio show called 'The Charlie Douglas Road Gang,' and now 50 years later I’m able to sit down with seasoned artists, songwriters, producers, as well as these young up 'n coming stars. Remember when you were a kid going into the candy store? Well I’m that kid now in the candy store of the 'Country Music Community.' God has blessed me and I thank him every day."
Tagged by some as the "Johnny Carson of Country Music," host Kenny Dean is a husband, father and grandfather whose good ole boy persona and wholesome honesty is as welcoming at first introduction as it is show after show. In addition to being a TV personality on various stations over the course of his 17-year broadcast career, Dean hosted the two-hour live television morning show “The Front Porch” for more than 15 years. Named the North American Country Music Association International (NACMAI) “TV Personality Of The Year” in 2006, Dean has covered political and entertainment sectors—conducting interviews with governors, congressmen, senators and state officials along with the all-time music greats.
From an inside-out perspective, “Behind the Scene with Kenny & Friends” explores and reveals the inner workings of Nashville to offer viewers a true-to-life sneak peek into the business like never seen before. From young gun hitmakers to award-winning, trendsetting veteran entertainers, such as Tracy Lawrence, Jo Dee Messina, Ronnie Milsap, Ray Stevens, Aaron Tippin and Billy Dean, the best-of-the-best have made the scene with Kenny Dean!

About The Bowlings
The group consists of Mike Bowling and his wife, Kelly, their daughter Hope and longtime friend Troy Peach. They bring you their stories and songs in a way that is reminiscent of days gone by. To watch them perform reminds us of a time when "all night singings" were the norm, and folks lined up early to visit with the singers and musicians. As in most things, musical styles come full circle. What is old is new, and what is new is old!! Musically, Mike, Kelly, Hope and Troy make us realize this. Somehow they have created a sound that is as refreshing as the sounds of the early 70s. Mike has often been referred to as the vocal stylist of the day; however, the completion is so obvious with Kelly, Hope and Troy by his side. History will note that they have been true to the excellence of their ability without diminishing or distancing the listener.

Through prayer, trusting God and obedience to His will, those desires are fulfilled and the results are immeasurable. Abby, Angie, Reva, Rick and Ricky, collectively known as the Hoskins Family, are seeing those results as God takes their ministry to new heights every day.
The album is titled 'A Gathering The Hits Of Then and Now' and was released January 21, 2014.
The songs on the album include the mega-hit that brought the Hoskins Family to prominence “Safe That Far” written by Kyla Rowland, the BMI Most Air-played Song Award “Places To Go, People To See” written by Gerald Crabb and chart topper “You Keep Loving Me” penned by Angie Hoskins.
The project also includes other hit songs that Hoskins Family fans and Southern Gospel listeners will have the privilege to re-experience.
“The Hoskins Family quickly built a reputation in Southern Gospel Music for fantastic songs that were passionately conveyed to listeners,” Daywind president Ed Leonard explained. “I am confident that this project will not only give their fans an enjoyable stroll down memory lane but also a new avenue of musical enjoyment. They'll not be disappointed, and we at Daywind are excited to hear the responses in regard to another stellar project from the Hoskins Family.”
'A Gathering The Hits Of Then and Now' has delivered a top charting new song for The Hoskins Family, "Whenever I Hear His Name" written by Marty Funderburk which is #6 in the Singing News chart for March. Lifeway and Family Christian stores are pushing the product as many other independent stores were excited to put the Hoskins Family back on the shelf.
“God Is Big” is authored by Annie McRae and is an up beat, drive down the road with the windows down kind of song. It's performed by Angie and her 17 year old daughter Abigail with guest star Joyce Martin and sure to be a favorite.
Lastly, “Endless Tomorrows”, also written by Marty Funderburk is a heart felt ballad with the true Hoskins Family sound.
