Sunday Edition Scores Big Debut with “He Bore a Cross”
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sunday Edition, one of Nashville’s favorite groups, scored a big debut on the upcoming October 2009 issue of the Singing News Top 80 chart.
The group’s current single – “He Bore a Cross” – debuted at #44 on the upcoming chart – becoming not only the group’s highest debut, but also their highest charting song to date on the industry’s most prominent airplay report.
“The reception that this song has had, both at radio and in live events, has been absolutely astounding to us,” mentioned Deon Unthank of Sunday Edition. “We’ve never had a song get such a strong response right out of the gate as we have with this song. The timing was just right, and we are thrilled that radio has latched on to this song like they have!”
In addition to the Singing News Top 80 – the song has recently debuted on other radio airplay charts – such as the Christian Voice Magazine Top 100 Southern Gospel Chart (#75), PowerSource Magazine Top 100 Southern Gospel Chart (#99), and the SoGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart (#36). The song has also been a regular fixture on the GospelMusicTimes.com Top 100 Fan Chart – this week charting at #34.
Sunday Edition released this special edition single in conjunction with BSA World Records. “He Bore a Cross” was produced by Glen Bates and written by Bates and Glen Ashworth specifically for the up-and-coming trio.
“He Bore a Cross” hit radio programmer’s desks the first part of June and is being promoted to Southern Gospel radio by three of radio’s favorite radio promotion companies. In addition to continuing their work with Phillip Emery (DJ Man Promotions) and Theresa Dillard (TS Promotions), Sunday Edition recently reached a promotional agreement with Tony & Kim Hudgins’ Spin-N-Motion Promotions.
“He Bore a Cross” can be found on Spin-N-Motion June 2009 Compilation, cut #1, DJ Man Hit Singles Volume 31, cut #5, and SCM Disc Volume 10, Cut #4. The song also became the group’s first ever Top 10 New Release – coming in as one of the most added songs at Southern Gospel radio for the August 2009 issue of the Singing News Top 80 chart.
Sunday Edition is in the beginning stages of recording a brand new album. Tracks for the new album, tentatively titled Sunday Worship, were recorded by Bobby McAllister for Salem Sound in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Sunday Worship is being produced and arranged by group members Chris Unthank and Deon Unthank with additional production by Steve Allen (Vestal Goodman, Gaither Vocal Band, Gold City). Vocals for the new recording will be recorded at Square One Studio in Franklin, Tennessee this month. Sunday Worship has a tentative release date of late Fall.
Sunday Edition will be available during the National Quartet Convention. Their booth is #996-998, and the popular trio will be performing on NQC’s Featured Artist Showcase on Monday, September 14, 2009 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the East Hall A-B of the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
