HORNBECK, La. – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet are excited to be a part of one of Louisiana’s long-standing traditions – the Florien Freestate Festival. The group will be performing at the Freestate Festival tomorrow evening, Friday, November 6, 2009.
Held each year in Florien, Louisiana, this festival commemorates the time when the area was a Free State (1806-1822), located between Spanish land and the United States. This festival has a comedy of shoot-out skits (Free State Gang vs. The Law), trail rides, street dances, lots of food and authentic syrup making, lye soap making, and an operational grist mill.
Marcelle Slaughter of the Southern Plainsmen said, “As Louisiana's Ambassadors of Goodwill, we count it a privilege to bring Southern Gospel Music to fairs and festivals that promote a clean, family atmosphere as does the Freestate Festival! Our roots are here in this area of Louisiana, and it's great to be part of this annual celebration of our past!”
The Southern Plainsmen Quartet will be on the fair grounds starting at 7:00 p.m. that evening, and the concert will take place in the high school auditorium while other events are held on the grounds.
