2011 National Quartet Convention Filled With Memorable Highlights!
Louisville, KY - The 54th Annual National Quartet Convention officially concluded on Saturday, September 17, following six days and seven nights filled with memorable moments, special reunions, local and national television exposure and more than 75 hours of music, music and more music. The event kicked off on Sunday evening, September 11 at Louisville's Kentucky Fair & Expo Center and continued throughout the week, as Gospel Music fans from more than 40 states and at least a half dozen countries traveled to the city of Louisville, KY, for the 2011 Convention. In addition to the many popular quartets, trios, duets and soloists featured throughout the week, prominent keynote speakers included Dr David Jeremiah, Dr Charles Stanley and former Attorney General John Ashcroft, as well as Fox New Correspondent, Kelly Wright.
The National Quartet Convention, which first began in 1957 in Memphis, TN, offers fans of Gospel Music the convenience of seeing and hearing their favorite groups at a single event, as well as meeting those favorites, purchasing their music, videos and much more at any one of the 500 exhibit booths which span throughout 175,000 square feet. Gospel Music lovers enjoy their favorite music all day long, as music spectaculars begin each morning and continue until nearly midnight each evening, with performances by such popular and multi-award winning recording artists as The Gaither Vocal Band, Jason Crabb, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, The Booth Brothers, The Hoppers, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, The Isaacs, and Jeff & Sheri Easter.
One special highlight of the week included the very first NQC Christmas Day on Tuesday, as the day kicked off with a special bonus Christmas concert. Christmas decorations decked the hallways of the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center, and the evening concluded with a special NQC Christmas In September music extravaganza.
Another highlight included the Dixie Melody Boys' 50th Anniversary Celebration, featuring the reunion of more than 40 past and present Quartet members. Other reunion appearances included the Gaither Vocal Band Reunion, the Hinsons Reunion, as well as the Rambos Tribute. Each Reunion Tribute featured former classic standards recorded and made popular by each of the groups.
The 3rd Annual NQC Cancer Walk, hosted by Janet Paschal, proved to be another huge success, as walkers braved a cold, drizzly Louisville morning on Thursday to participate in the event, a benefit for the American Cancer Society.
Reflecting upon the 2011 NQC, Executive Vice President, Clarke Beasley, stated that the overall success of the event was most evident to all who attended the event. "It was truly a special year, filled with many memorable moments. Attendance was very strong, and our attendees were truly blessed by all they saw and heard."
The 2012 National Quartet Convention will take place September 9-15, 2012 in Louisville at the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center. Visit www.nqconline.com, as a complete schedule of events will be posted in the coming weeks.

Early indications suggest that Mr. Burke suffered a brain aneurysm late last night at his home near Maiden, North Carolina. He had just celebrated his 75th birthday Sunday, Sept. 18.
Mr. Burke is generally regarded as a "behind-the-scenes" guiding force of Southern Gospel music. Among his numerous contributions to music in bringing life harmony are his distinguished service as a Board Member of the Southern Gospel Music Association and the Southern Gospel Music Hall Of Fame. An entrepreneur with several diversified businesses to his credit, including partial ownership of the National Quartet Convention, Mr. Burke was a driving force behind the outstanding quartet, The Singing Americans, and, with his son Michael, owned Tape Corporation Of America.
The following is a statement from Clarke Beasley about Charles Burke:
"The greatest among us are those who do not focus on elevating themselves but elevating others. Charles Burke spent a lifetime elevating others, dreaming dreams and bringing them to fruition, advancing the cause of the music he loved and the professionals within that music that he loved even more. To the countless people whose lives he impacted, his memory will be cherished and he will be greatly missed.
Last week, as president of the Southern Gospel Music Guild, I watched as Mr. Burke was celebrated by the people who loved him most as he was presented the Lifetime Achievement Honor. I am so glad he knew just how much he was appreciated."
A tremendous discoverer and encourager of new musical talent, Mr. Burke was instrumental in the careers of such persons as Clayton Inman and David Sutton of The Triumphant Quartet, Ivan Parker, Danny Funderburk, as well as such grous as The Whisnants, The Reggie Saddler Family and The Dove Brothers.

Guy Penrod Releases New Single to Radio
"Male Vocalist of the Year" Nomination in ICM Awards Ceremonies Cap Fall 2011
Nashville, Tennessee (September 14, 2011) - Guy Penrod strikes a strong vocal note of encouragement to the everyday American worker in his powerful new single "More Power To Ya" being delivered to country radio this week via Play MPE and CDX Vol. #531. The third single from his much acclaimed BREATHE DEEP CD release, Penrod's choice of the Jon Mabe/Jason Matthews written "More Power To Ya" continues to engage country listeners with a 'faith & family' values message that delves deep into the heart of the nation's 'can do' spirit. "I chose the song because of its down-to-earth grit when it comes to making it through life," notes Guy. "Life often deals us what seems at times to be an unfair hand. But the message in this great song is that the things that truly matter to us, our families-wives, kids, parents, friends--in short the people we love--are what's most important. We still get up and get out there and fight to provide for those we love. Things are especially challenging for the American work force at this time, but the numbers still reflect that we, as a people, are going to do what it takes to care for those we love and that grit deserves our applause and encouragement....to which I say, more power to ya!" With the unveiling of his new single and fall 2011 concert schedule, Guy Penrod remains one of the most "audience connective" live performers in the music industry. For country fans, his 2010 debut solo tour in support of BREATHE DEEP put a fresh face" on the unmistakable voice that help propel The Gaither Vocal Band to multi-Grammy wins and multi-million unit record sales. He has to date performed before audiences of more than six million concert-goers in the U.S. alone. The release of BREATHE DEEP set Penrod on course to be a centerpiece artist at the CMA Music Festival, tour Europe to introduce the new music, and embark on an ambitious country radio promotional tour that boosted his emerging strength in the genre to six figure sales in 2010. Guy will cap October with an October 28th appearance/performance at the ICM Faith, Family & Country Awards presentation being held in Nashville at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. He is nominated in the Male Vocalist of the Year category set to be presented that night. For additional information on concert dates listed please resource: www.guypenrod.com.

a ‘Lively ... Deep’ Personal Tribute to Father of Bluegrass
Austin, TX — Bay Area fiddler extraordinaire Laurie Lewis, called a “bluegrass/folk star” by the San Francisco Chronicle, will release her latest album, a heartfelt tribute to Bill Monroe, SKIPPIN’ AND FLYIN’ (Spruce and Maple Music), on October 18.

Skaggs Family Releases Second Christmas Album
One of Billboard's
Most-Anticipated Country Albums of the Fall -
A SKAGGS FAMILY CHRISTMAS VOLUME TWO
In Stores Next Tuesday
Skaggs And The Whites Will Make Appearances During IBMA Week
Nashville, TN (September 22, 2011) - One of Billboard's most-anticipated Country albums of the fall, A SKAGGS FAMILY CHRISTMAS VOLUME TWO, will be available in stores nationwide next Tuesday, September 27. The new, 10-song CD features both studio and live recordings, and includes performances of traditional seasonal favorites and new compositions that are sure to become holiday treasures.
To celebrate the album's release, Ricky and The Whites will appear at an in-store signing event at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on September 27 (11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) and later that day, they'll sign autographs from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Skaggs Family Records' Booth (#416) at the IBMA 2011 World of Bluegrass being held at the Nashville Convention Center. Skaggs, a 14-time Grammy® winner, will also entertain fans on Wednesday, September 28 when he and Kentucky Thunder join the Bill Monroe Tribute Show being held at Vanderbilt University's Ingram Hall at 7 p.m.
A SKAGGS FAMILY CHRISTMAS VOLUME TWO features Ricky, his wife Sharon and their children (Luke and Molly), Buck and Cheryl White, and Cheryl's daughter, Rachel Leftwich, part of the Skaggs' extended family and members of a celebrated musical clan in their own right. Also highlighted are world-renowned Kentucky Thunder and The Nashville Strings. The disc kicks off with the upbeat bluegrass arrangement of "Christmas Time's A Coming," which segues smoothly to showcase Sharon White Skaggs and her sister, Cheryl, trading lead vocals on the bright, acoustic, "Light of the Stable." An a capella version of "The First Noel" finds Ricky singing lead, while the signature vocals of the White sisters excel on the high and low harmonies. Heavenly voices rise in praise on the classic seasonal favorite, "Silent Night," which also features a poignant mandolin and soaring strings. Molly Skaggs shines on "What Songs Were Sung," proving she's more than worthy to carry on the families' traditions, while brother Luke burns up the fret on his own composition, the intricate instrumental, "Flight To Egypt." The modern "Reunion Song" features a deceptively-simple sing-along melody, and Ricky not only triumphs on the lead vocal, but also plays Guitars, Mandolin, Gut String Solo and Dan Electro. Skaggs' lightning-fast finger pickin' guitar lick jump-starts "Children Go" and the vocal interplay between the family members (Ricky, Buck, Sharon and Cheryl) should leave listeners breathless. A haunting, original arrangement and expressive vocals by Luke, Molly and Rachel highlight "Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel," and the disc closes with a classical instrumental interpretation of "Joy To The World."
As a bonus, A SKAGGS FAMILY CHRISTMAS LIVE (DVD) is included with the purchase of the CD. The DVD features the family's heartwarming holiday concert, recorded live in Nashville at the historic Ryman Auditorium. The three generations have taken this special show on the road for the last eight years, and the tradition continues this year, with the troupe performing at a variety of venues throughout the holiday season, including:
11/28/11 Brooks Center for the Performing Arts / Clemson, SC
11/30/11 The Paramount Theater / Charlottesville, VA
12/01/11 Music Center at Strathmore / N. Bethesda, MD
12/02/11 Historic Tennessee Theatre / Knoxville, TN
12/10/11 Honeywell Center / Wabash, IN
12/11/11 Niswonger PAC of NW Ohio / Van Wert, OH
12/17/11 Smokey Mtn. Performing Arts Center / Franklin, NC
12/22/11 Schermerhorn Symphony Center / Nashville, TN
"We started singing these songs in our living room all those years ago, with no idea that we would ever take A Skaggs Family Christmas to so many places," explains Sharon. "We've performed everywhere from churches to symphony halls to the National Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington D.C., where we sang for President George W. Bush. The recording process, the performing and traveling has been so much fun! It has been such a blessing to share all of this as a family."

Sheri Easter To Release Book, Hear My Heart: When There Are No Words To Say, September 10, 2011
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 7, 2011) – GRAMMY® nominee and award-winning female vocalist Sheri Easter (Jeff & Sheri Easter) is set to release Hear My Heart: When There Are No Words To Say, a collection of her writings over the years, through Xulon Press on September 10, 2011.
As a wife, mother, singer and songwriter, Easter has always been one to chronicle her life with pen and paper, capturing significant moments both good and bad. While fighting a now victorious battle with breast cancer over the past few years, her journaling became even more precious to her as well as therapeutic. Currently celebrating 25 years of marriage and a life full of triumphs and tragedies, Easter decided it was time to share some of her life experiences and lessons through this intimate release.
"Sometimes in life, words seem superficial, shallow and empty" says Easter. "We struggle to put our feelings into sentences that convey an honest representation of the heart. With this book, I’ve opened my heart, shared private journal entries, favorite quotes, blogs and stories to offer inspiration and passion to the reader."
Hear My Heart: When There Are No Words to Say will be available at digital retailers, in select bookstores and at all Jeff & Sheri Easter tour dates. Pre-orders are being accepted now, and all books sold through JeffAndSheriEaster.com will be autographed.
For more information, visit www.JeffAndSheriEaster.com. Connect with Jeff & Sheri Easter at Facebook.com/JeffAndSheriEaster and Twitter: @JSEaster and @SheriEaster.

For the fans that missed the National Anthem last year, I would certainly recommend they tune in with us for their outstanding version of our nation’s song.”

Music Icon Ricky Skaggs Nominated For Five ICM Awards
Including Entertainer and Legend/Pioneer Award Inspirational Country Song ("Someday Soon"), Musician And Inspirational Bluegrass Artist Round Out Nominations
Nashville, TN (September 1, 2011) -- The ICM Faith, Family & Country Awards Top 5 finalists were announced yesterday, and Ricky Skaggs secured nominations in five categories: Legend/Pioneer Award, Entertainer, Inspirational Country Song ("Someday Soon"), Musician and Inspirational Bluegrass Artist. For Skaggs, who has previously won several ICM Awards, this year's nominations are particularly sweet. "I'm very grateful to the ICM for all the nominations," says Skaggs. "When I started playin' and singin', they didn't have award shows like they do now, so I've never been driven to win them. I just love the music and I love the fact that God uses music to speak to people's hearts. That's what I'm in it for, to be a messenger of His Love." The 17th Annual Inspirational Country Music Awards will be held on Friday, October 28 at Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Ricky has been honored with the following ICM Awards: Musician of the Year, Christian Country Music Association - 1994, 1995, Musician of the Year - 2008, Inspirational Bluegrass Artist (with The Whites) - 2008, Mainstream Country Artist (with The Whites) - 2008, Mainstream Country Artist - 2009 and Inspirational Bluegrass Artist - 2010. A 14-time Grammy® winner, Skaggs should have no problem garnering additional nominations in the future, as he continues to record and produce peerless music that appeals to an ever-growing fan base that crosses multiple genres. GRAMMY® Award Winner JASON CRABB Releases Live DVD/CD
New DVD and CD Releases Showcasing a Heartwarming Evening
As Acclaimed Vocalist Puts His Signature Twist on Classics
(Nashville, Tenn.) September 1, 2011 - For GRAMMY® Award winner and Christian music mainstay JASON CRABB, there is nothing like performing LIVE in front of an audience. On April 19th, 2011, his adrenaline was running high as he stepped onto the stage, following an introduction by friend, mentor and legend Bill Gaither, to record his first LIVE recording, The Song Lives On (Gaither Music Group), which is set to release on DVD and CD on October 18th.
Filmed at Nashville’s historic Loveless Café Barn, this all-new collection finds Jason, along with his stage band, putting his own twist to some of the most popular Gospel classics and church favorites of the past few decades. The rustic venue at the Loveless accentuated the rich emotion and soul of Crabb’s vocal talents as well as the intimate, down-home charm that has made this “boy next door” a 14-time GMA DOVE Award-winning, nationally acclaimed communicator.
Known for a uniquely commercial vocal style that blurs the lines between musical genres, Crabb, along with Gaither, collaborated to select songs for this recording that have now become classics—songs that Crabb grew up singing in his hometown church, tunes that remain fan favorites today and messages that Jason could bring to life with his unique flair that ranges from sheer, powerhouse force to “raw,” vulnerable interpretations.
“I wanted to record songs that have stood the test of time,” Crabb describes, “and as Bill Gaither suggested, ‘songs that have sound theology.’ Many of these songs I first heard in church while growing up in Kentucky. Some of them were sung as a congregation, and some were performed as what we called ‘specials’ at our country church.”
Some of those “specials” include hits such as “Who Am I,” “Beulah Land,” “God on the Mountain,” “Midnight Cry,” “I Saw the Light,” “Until Then” and “Why Me” among others (complete song listing below). The evening featured special performances by The Gaither Vocal Band, including a new rendition of “Please Forgive Me,” a Crabb Family hit penned by Crabb’s father, songwriter of the year Gerald Crabb. The song, which was recently re-recorded by Crabb’s longtime friend and inspiration Michael English with the Gaither Vocal Band, included a special reprise that brought Crabb and English together on stage.
Another highlight of the evening occurred when Gaither and Oak Ridge Boy William Lee Golden stepped onto the stage spontaneously to join Crabb singing his version of the Kris Kristofferson hit “Why Me.” Other standout moments included a cameo appearance by Sonya Isaacs Yeary and Becky Isaacs Bowman, who joined Jason for the classic “Who Am I” as well as a guest appearance by The Crabb Family, who joined their brother for the family tradition “Through the Fire.” Performers and studio vocalists Reggie and Ladye Love Smith and Angela Primm sang background vocals that evening. Jason’s band includes Lorie Sikes, Blaine Johnson and Michael Rowsey.
“This was a night I had looked forward to for so long,” Crabb describes with his usual “aww, shucks” grin. “To get to sing these classic songs and have my band do what we do live is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now. To look into the front row and see the faces of people I’ve looked up to for years was intimidating…what an honor! For several of them to join me on stage, well, that’s just beyond belief for this small-town boy…what a night! I’ll treasure it forever.”
The Song Lives On will also include a new version of Crabb’s GMA DOVE Award-winning Song of the Year for 2011 “Sometimes I Cry,” which Crabb recently re-recorded at the Billy Graham Library in NC, as part of the filming for the fall releases of the two new Gaither Homecoming videos—Tent Revival Homecoming and The Old Rugged Cross.
The Song Lives On DVD and CD, produced by Gaither, will be available in stores and online on October 18th. The projects will be featured on multiple tv networks as part of a direct campaign this fall and will be strategically positioned across retail and online accounts. Both releases are distributed exclusively by EMI CMG Distribution. For a SNEAK PREVIEW of the DVD, please visit http://youtu.be/NhmHabgfw_E.
In addition to his heavy touring schedule, Jason can be seen at various HOMECOMING arena concerts and video recordings. For further information, visit www.gaither.com or www.jasoncrabb.com.

Brian Alvey Joins The Talleys
One of gospel music’s most beloved families, the Talley Trio, announces an exciting new chapter in their lives and ministry. Brian Alvey joins Roger, Debra and Lauren on stage in September 2011, making his debut at the Gatlinburg Gathering. Brian and Lauren were married in June 2011 and with this change the group will officially be known as The Talleys.
“Brian not only brings an impressive vocal ability to the group, but will add a new excitement to the stage with his proficiency on bass guitar, piano, electric and acoustic guitar and steel guitar. We look forward to showcasing his many talents on stage, but what we love most is his testimony, his heart for ministry and the impact he will have on listeners,” says Roger Talley.
Brian is an Indiana native and was raised in a pastor’s home. He has previously played piano and sung with Southern Sound, Beyond the Ashes and Tribute Quartet. Brian co-wrote Tribute’s first top 10 single, “That’s Why I Love Him So,” and was a 2009 Top 10 nominee for Horizon Individual of the Year.
