Retro Reality Check: Sit Down and Shut Up
[Editor's note: This Reality Check was published in February 2011 by SGM Radio website and was written by Lorraine Walker.]
Here it comes again. Can you feel the change in the wind? Another storm is approaching in your life to upset you and leave you shipwrecked emotionally, spiritually or even physically. You just wish Jesus would walk on water like He did in the Bible and say, “Peace!” to your storm. Well, maybe He is saying “Peace, be still”, but not to your storm. To you.
When Jesus said “Peace” that day in the Sea of Galilee, the word used at that time actually meant, “Silence! Hush! Be quiet!”. “Peace” meant an involuntary stillness, like telling an unruly child to sit down and shut up. It makes me wonder how much of that command was to the Sea, and how much was meant for the wailing disciples. With the amount of moaning and murmuring God must hear from us every time we are put out of our comfort zone, it’s no wonder He wants us to sit down, shut up, and listen to Him.
I’m not saying we don’t have reasons to be upset and angry about things that happen to us. I’m definitely not saying that we cannot question why ‘bad things happen to good people’. But maybe we spend too much time questioning, arguing and debating to hear any answer God may have for us. Jesus may be speaking to me right at the time I’m complaining, but my ears won’t work when my mouth is open.
If a child is acting out because they are hurt, they cannot receive the comfort being offered to them until they submit to the loving arms of the person trying to help. How similar this is to our relationship with our Lord. We keep acting out, from a feeling of pain or helplessness, yet we won’t submit to His arms of love. We know we will find comfort and peace there but we also know we give up whatever control we think we have. Sometimes we’d rather groan and complain and still think we can change the situation on our own. Perhaps one reason we enjoy our pity party is because we are the guest of honour.
It’s a hard thing to realize when a clear view of a bad situation turns inward to a feeling of victimization. It’s difficult because when we see ourselves as a victim, and others do too, again the focus is on us and it is human nature to like the attention. It takes a very strong person to admit their human frailty and run to God for strength and courage. Maybe we just don’t want to ask God for His deliverance because we don’t want to move on into the unknown glorious future. The ‘glorious’ part is lost on us; the ‘unknown’ part scares us to death.
Is your current storm causing you to cry out in fear and discouragement? Hear the words of Jesus: “Peace. Be quiet. Let Me talk to you in your situation and together we will get through it.” Listen to the Lord, sit down and shut up, and learn from the Master. The submission part may be really difficult, but would you rather drown?

Retro SGM Radio: Love Revolutionaries: Hearts of Faith Find Compassion
[Editor's Note: This SGM Radio feature was published October 2009 and written by Lorraine Walker.]
When Jesus walked this earth, He showed His love to those around Him in revolutionary ways. He touched the unclean, He forgave the condemned and He loved the unlovable. Today, ordinary people like you and me are reaching out with the same kind of revolutionary love to the helpless, the hopeless and the lost.
Hearts of Faith have been showing Revolutionary Love by adopting children through Compassion International. The website, www.compassion.com , states: “Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.” Donna Strong and Brenda Messaros of Hearts of Faith truly believe in the mission statement of this worldwide organization.
“There are a good many organizations that deal with children,” says Donna Strong. “Compassion truly has a heart for the kids, in that over 83% of the monies given actually go directly to the child. They partner with churches in the countries so that local people are able to support the kids. They don’t just have the funds deposited somewhere. They are very hands-on and we really like that!”
Strong continues, “Prior to my husband and I getting married in 1990, Keith had attended a concert where a Compassion presentation was given. He decided to begin sponsoring a child and then he linked up with Compassion to become a volunteer to go to churches and speak on Compassion. We were working for the same company and he came to our church to give a presentation. It was at that time that I began sponsoring a little girl in Haiti. Of course, she has since graduated out of the program.
I've honestly lost count of how many children we've sponsored through the years. Between Brenda’s family, and us, there are six children currently sponsored. We'd love to be able to sponsor all of them because the poverty that these children live in on a daily basis is truly horrific. I think most people in America would be appalled to have to live in those conditions for even one day.”
The Strongs have sponsored children in Thailand and Haiti. Keith Strong, Donna’s husband, shares his experiences of visiting the homelands of children they have sponsored over the years.
“I visited two boys in Rwanda back in 1987, my first trip, and I visited the girl Donna and I sponsored when I visited India in 1995. In the projects where my kids were, there was a church and a school at the center of it serving the children and their families. In the midst of much poverty, it was great to see the smiling faces of the children and their enthusiasm because they have been shown the love of God and of their sponsors. They have a chance to have a better future.
“Kanzeguakwa was the first child I sponsored, and I took a trip to Rwanda specifically to visit him. I started sponsoring Hakizimana during the planning stage of that trip, so I visited him also. Theirs was a world unknown to us in the developed West. Mud houses, no shoes, lots of kids and lots of poverty. The Compassion projects were impressive, and the kids were obviously benefiting from their involvement. The families were grateful beyond words for the sponsorship of their sons.
“Kanzeguakwa's father was very frail and old-looking. He had some cash with him and wanted to give it to me as a gift of appreciation, as he had little else to give. I did some fast-talking and managed to keep him from parting with his money while still knowing I appreciated and accepted the gesture.
“Visiting Kamala Devi Thoguru, our girl in India, was an especially memorable. I had sponsored her right at the beginning as she entered the program at six years old. She was 15 when I visited her. Since our son was only two months old I hadn't been a parent very long, but when I met Kamala, it was like ‘instant daughter’. She was able to speak English well enough that we could communicate pretty well, making the visit all the more memorable. I got to visit her home, along with her mother, brother, and sister. During the visit, she started showing me things around the house: dishes, furniture, a small set of luggage; apparently all of it was purchased with the birthday and Christmas gifts I had sent her. She kept saying, ‘I'm so happy!’ The trip was touching beyond words.
“I was able to extend her sponsorship past the normal graduating level of 10th grade, which was that year, and sponsored her for 2 more high school years and 4 years of nursing school. She is 29 years old now. I have lost contact with her, but I expect she is married and maybe has a family of her own.”
It is obvious that the adoption of children through Compassion has been a very personal and rewarding experience for the Strongs. They believe in the organization and what it has accomplished.
“I have been sponsoring at least one child at a time since the beginning of 1985,”says Keith. “I have seen several projects in Kenya and Rwanda, as well as the Holy Cross English Medium School in Nandyal, India. So you could say I put my money where my mouth is. I trust and respect the organization, and have seen the great work they do.”
Donna Strong, as a member of a popular and very busy gospel duet, has not been able to visit the homelands of her adopted children. However, she feels very connected with them. She knows that not everyone can go; some must send and help through the funds they sacrifice from a paycheque that needs to stretch farther in this economy.
“Sponsoring a child through Compassion is such a wonderful experience,” says Donna. “Knowing that your financial support provides meals, clothing, schooling, and most of all, hearing about Jesus Christ. Sponsors receive letters from the child and will really get to know the child as his or her own. Pictures can be shared and life lessons can be taught, simply by writing to the child. These days, this can even be done by e-mail, which gives many busy folks a chance to stay in touch with the child even if they don’t enjoy writing.
“Sponsors may also send support for birthdays and Christmas. If sponsors are able, Compassion can set up trips to visit the child. There is no specific requirement; it all depends on how involved someone wishes to become. But keeping in periodic contact is definitely encouraged.”
“We believe we are fulfilling the Great Commission by doing for those who have no other means of escape,” says Donna. “Each child is a creation of God and He loves those children more than we can imagine. We need to be His hands and His feet, sharing His love with those who have not heard.
“To date, we've seen 21 children sponsored through our ministry. We are so excited for each one! It means a child will have an opportunity to not only receive what we take for granted but also see first hand the love of Jesus in action. That not only changes a life now, but for all eternity!”
Hearts of Faith have a strong desire on their hearts to see lives changed in their land as well. Since 2001, they have traveled as one of the few female duets in Southern Gospel, criss-crossing the United States to fulfill 70 dates every year. “We could travel more extensively,” says Strong. “However, we both have children still at home and firmly believe God has also called us to be good moms and wives. Quite honestly, if our families are not intact, we can't truly be good ministers to others.”
The duet’s love for families and children shines through in their music as well. They recently recorded a concept video entitled, “Susie’s Eyes”, that won Video of the Year at the 2009 Diamond Awards.
Donna Strong shares how the video came to be recorded. “’Susie's Eyes’ is an incredible song written by Kenny Webb of Chattanooga, TN. He brought the song to us in 2003 and felt that we were the ones to record it. It wasn't until 2006 that it really fit a project we were putting together. Even when we were recording the song, we wanted to do a concept video of the song so that people would realize how truly blessed each one of us is.
“While attending SINGING IN THE SUN in 2008, we met Kayla-Elise the last night of the convention. At that time, we didn't think about the concept video; however, her mother e-mailed the next week to say that their entire three-and-a-half hour drive home was filled with only one song, over and over: ‘Susie's Eyes’. Kayla-Elise knew every word. We knew Kayla was to be our Susie.
“What's so incredible is that Kayla truly does exemplify what Susie is in the song. And we were so thrilled that the video production team allowed her voice to also be heard in the video. We hope that those who see this video will realize that although life may throw a curve every now and then, God still blesses us in so many ways. And we, here in America, are blessed so abundantly.
“We didn't market the video heavily because we really didn't have the funds for marketing. So we simply mailed the video to a few TV stations and prayed that God would use it for His glory. When it made Top 10 on the Diamond Award ballot, we were so thrilled. When our name was called for it winning the Video of the Year, we were almost speechless. Brenda's hands were shaking the entire time during the acceptance speech and for several minutes afterwards.
Strong continues, “I think it's so awesome that one song can do so much to touch people's hearts. Many times, we don't realize what one word of encouragement, one smile, or one touch can do to change the direction of a life.”
Hearts of Faith are truly exemplifying the love of Christ by touching lives at home with their music and abroad with their support. As Jesus reached out to gather the children to Himself, this duet is reaching out to children and adults alike with the love of their Heavenly Father. And that makes these ladies “Love Revolutionaries”.

‘MUSIC & MADNESS’ TO FEATURE MARK LOWRY AND THE MARTINS
The Long-Awaited First Tour Together Kicks Off this Spring
(Nashville, TN) – It’s been talked about for years and is now finally coming to pass. Gospel music legends Mark Lowry and The Martins will hit the road together for the first time this spring with their Music & Madness tour.
Kicking off March 6th in Little Rock, Ark., the first leg of Music & Madness will cover 22 cities including stops in Des Moines (Iowa), Bowling Green (Ky.), Fayetteville (N.C.), Nashville and more.
“It’s a lifelong dream,” says Mark about touring with The Martins. “It’s going to be an exciting year, just getting to hear them sing every night.”
The history between Mark and sibling trio Joyce, Jonathan and Judy Martin spans more than two decades and can be traced back to a cassette tape The Martins gave him at a national convention in 1992. Mark and fellow Gaither Vocal Band-mate Michael English were so impressed, they insisted Gloria Gaither listen to an impromptu audition of the group, which they held in the women’s restroom. Gloria then told husband Bill and the rest is history as the Gaithers helped introduce The Martins to the world.
“I’m so excited about being on tour with Mark,” says Joyce, the eldest Martin. “We have for years talked about getting on the road together, but never had the opportunity, so it almost feels surreal. We’re going to just hit the road and have a good time.”
Sponsored by Feed the Children, Music & Madness will also feature renowned pianist Stan Whitmire, and according to Lowry, fans can expect a little bit of everything at the shows: “We’re going to mix it up. The Martins and I will be singing together. I’ll be kicking Jonathan out and singing with just the sisters on a couple songs. Whatever it takes to make the night a success, we’re going to do!”
Best known for his comedic storytelling and writing the Christmas classic, “Mary Did You Know?” Mark Lowry has been entertaining audiences since age 11. His life work includes a long list of recordings and DVDs reflecting a wide range of influences. In October 2013, Lowry announced his departure as the baritone of the Grammy-Award-winning Gaither Vocal Band to focus on his solo career.

The Blackwood Brothers Quartet: A Night Like Never Before
The Blackwood Brothers Quartet
Concert Review by Vivian Belknap
Thursday, February 13, 2014
Grand Prairie, Texas
How many quartets can say they are celebrating 80 years of classic southern gospel music? In 2014, Billy Blackwood continues the legacy started in 1934 by his Dad, James Blackwood.
I had the great privilege to attend a concert featuring Billy Blackwood and The Blackwood Brothers Quartet, February 13, 2014, hosted by Pastor Bill Webb and the Bible Believer’s Assembly of God Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. Those in attendance were treated with what Pastor Webb told Billy earlier in the afternoon would be “a night like never before.”
The Quartet consists of lead singer, Billy Blackwood; Wayne Little, tenor; Butch Owens, bass and Michael Helwig, baritone.
The “night like never before” began with the classic feel of “The Joy of Knowing Jesus.” The presence of the Holy Spirit was sweetly strong as the concert continued with songs like “The Old Country Church,” “It Is No Secret” and “The Lighthouse.” Billy introduced a new song he wrote, “That’s What Heaven Will Be.”
As though it couldn’t get any better, Billy shared his heart. He proclaimed the goodness and grace of our Father through Jesus. He said, “Gospel music is not defined by the music, but by the message. The message makes it gospel music.” Then we heard the majestic orchestration of “Declaration of Dependence,” from their album “Sweet Songs About Heaven.” The song strongly declares our dependence on Jesus.
Big John Hall was in the audience and Billy asked him to come to the stage. As John walked on stage, with tears in his eyes, he said, “Your dad never missed a note; he never missed a beat; never, ever.” Such a sweet time we got to see between these two men. Then we were blessed to hear John sing, “How Big is God.”
The evening ended with the quartet singing a medley of audience requested songs. Then Billy closed in prayer; the presence of our Lord was amazing as Billy said, “I don’t want to leave Your presence.” “There’s a Sweet Spirit in This Place,” was the final song. Was it a night like never before? YES!
Billy Blackwood not only resembles his dad physically, but like James Blackwood, he is a gentleman on the stage, behind the product table and in the parking lot.
When you have the opportunity to see them in concert, you will leave blessed and renewed in spirit.

A New Era Begins For The Gaither Vocal Band
When two Gaither Vocal Band vacancies came open in late 2013, Bill began a meticulous search and considered every possibility. A few weeks ago, Gaither Music announced Adam Crabb as the new lead singer, joining Bill Gaither, David Phelps and Wes Hampton. Now, at last, the search is over for our fifth member and a new era begins in the Gaither Vocal Band’s legacy!
Gaither Music is pleased to welcome our new baritone, Todd Suttles, to the Gaither Vocal Band. Todd’s deep resonant baritone voice is matched only by his wonderful character, quick sense of humor and infectious energy. He comes to us from Vanderbilt University, where he has served for 20 years as a Sports Fitness Director as well as Vanderbilt’s CampVandy Youth Programs Director, where he will continue when he is not traveling with the Gaither Vocal Band. Todd has sung with the Settles Connection and can be heard in the background vocals on numerous recordings with artists whom you know and love. He comes highly recommended by fellow artists, university faculty, and many others who have had the privilege of working with him.
“First of all, I want to thank Mark Lowry and Michael English for giving us some really wonderful years and incredible recordings that will live on in gospel music history,” Bill states. “We knew when they left, we had big shoes to fill and, as I have said before, you never truly replace anyone. You have to create something new and unique. I have been putting voices together for a long, long time and never before have we considered more possibilities or auditioned so many incredible singers than we have during the past few months. This decision came down to finding a vocal range and texture that would offer just the right balance to the current mix of voices in the group. I could not be happier with this decision. Not only do we love the rich tones in Todd’s voice, he also happens to be a wonderful human being to be around. So not only have we gained a talented individual, we have gained a new friend. And very soon, I believe you will agree. Trust me. This is going to be good!”
This energetic new line-up will set sail on the Gaither Homecoming Caribbean Cruise this coming Saturday and will be headed off to a full schedule of concert weekends throughout the spring. And we will soon announce fall tour dates as well! So stay tuned!

Dr. Tim Hill, Director of Marcelly's Dream stated “I couldn't be more pleased than for Church of God World Missions to share in such a wonderful event. CEO and Publisher of Absolutely Gospel, Deon Unthank commented “We are thrilled to have a partner like Marcelly's Dream involved in this awards celebration. Jim Sheldon Scores Another #1
Stanford, KY (February 18, 2014) Country Gospel singer Jim Sheldon has scored another #1 song on the CASHBOX Country Gospel Chart. The Classic Gospel song “I Saw A Man” is penned by Arthur Smith. Many artists have recorded this song since it was written back in the 1960s, but Jim puts his own touch to the song and has earned the attention of DJs across the country.
Jim also claimed the #1 spot with “I Saw A Man” on the Christian Music Weekly Country Chart as well as on the Country Gospel Top 100 Chart in the Christian Voice Magazine.
Jim stated “I am so blessed to be honored by the Country Gospel genre where my music and ministry have been welcomed. I want to thank all the DJs for playing this song.”
Jim's popularity is no doubt influenced by his weekly appearance as The Positive Cowboy on The Music City Show. The Music City Show is a weekly TV program shown on RFD-TV and FamilyNet about to enter it's second season.
In other good news, Jim Sheldon was recently awarded #2 Male Vocalist of the Year with the Indie Gospel Artists.

About Jim Sheldon
After serving many years as music minster, there was a void yet filled. In 1994, joined my first gospel quartet. Immediately, I knew singing gospel music was God's true calling for my life. He confirmed this with a paraphrase of Proverbs 3:6 - "In everything you do put God first, He will direct and crown your efforts with success."
My greatest inspiration came from Glenn Payne. The Cathedrals sang at my church in Virginia. He told me:"Vocalize daily and never sing out of your range. Remember, God gave you the ability and desire. Honor Him with a servant's heart." Now God says it's time to tell my story of how God has brought me out from a long 'wilderness time' of sin, shame and disgrace to where I am today.

Booth Brothers Headline Sneed Family Homecoming
Nashville, TN (February 14, 2014) The Booth Brothers with their harmony-drenched vocals and warm, easy voices have been sharing their faith and their music full-time since 1998. These men get their musical influences from a wide range of performers from the Eagles, to the Gatlin Brothers, to legendary gospel greats such as Bill Gaither and Mosie Lister, but their inspiration comes straight from God.
Ronnie and Michael grew up with the sound of music in their home. Raised in Tampa, Florida, their father, Ron Booth Sr., sang in several southern gospel groups, including the Rebels Quartet. Ronnie and Michael began traveling with their father as the Booth Brothers in 1990. Father and sons ministered together for the next eight years, singing wherever God opened the doors .
In 1998, Ron Sr. retired from the stage so Ronnie and Michael began looking for a new singing partner. They had several capable singers come through the group, but finally teamed up with Jim Brady, formerly of The Schulers.
The combination has worked for over ten years and Jim has become an integral part of the group adding his ability for writing great songs. This trio has been gracing fans and blessing audiences with their appearances on the Gaither Homecoming tour and their own fairly heavy touring schedule over the last several years. They are known for their high energy and humorous yet touching concerts, but their deepest desire is to show God’s love, grace and forgiveness through the song God has given them to sing. The Booth Brothers’ dedication to the music they love has rewarded them with multiple awards and recognitions.
The host artist for this event are following in the footsteps of such greats as Naomi and the Segos and the Hoppers. These groups have made indelible marks in the professional attitude of the Sneed Family. It is by following the example of these spectacular artists that they are carving a distinctive and lasting niche in their own right. Of course we're talking about the Sneed Family from the rolling hills of Kentucky.
Consisting of the husband and wife combination of Jeff and Pam Sneed, their daughter and son-in-law Caleb and Amanda Cowan, along with their sons Seth and Jacob, they blend their Christ-centered lives, heart-felt music, and inspired songs together to create an anointed sound that blesses listeners. The Sneed Family began its gospel music journey in 1982 as “Glory Bound” with four young men just out of High School. The group was founded by Jeff Sneed. Jeff met and married Pam Saylors who has become the predominant staple in the current group. Today they are living the dream night after night with their family, singing the songs that change lives. From early beginnings in a small Kentucky town, this group has flourished into their own niche. The Sneed Family has 100 percent become a family affair, rising to national success in such a short period of time.
In early 2008 The Sneed Family launched a brand new Christian Television Show called “Glory Bound Jubilee”seen in over 1 million homes each week. The Glory Bound Jubilee is a branch off of The Sneed Family’s road ministry, which goes into venues and churches across the country showcasing many of the testimonies of our Christian faith. The Show also brings the faces of Gospel music into the homes of believers and non-believers alike. The Sneed Family believes that this show is their part of the Great Commission.
Jeff Sneed received the honor of being chosen to host the first Loretta Lynn Gospel Music Festival on her ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. Also in 2014, The Sneeds has been nominated as the Fan Favorite Artist and the Breakthrough Artist in the prestigious Absolutely Gospel Music Awards to be held on April 15, 2014.
The Sneed Family has a distinct style, a versatile performance, and a heart for ministry. Their desire is that God would use the message in their music to help lead many people to a “heart felt” salvation and ultimately a home in Heaven.
Also appearing at the big Homecoming event will be HighRoad III. In a world where conformity is king and following the crowd is practically a survival instinct, the women of HighRoad III, an award-winning Appalachian gospel group from Nashville who just happen to be the best of friends have always preferred the road less traveled.
Holding fast to the message that guides them each and every day, HighRoad III isn't just another group of talented musicians who play songs that are close to their hearts. Instead, they feel incredibly blessed to provide longtime fans and new listeners alike with the message of hope found in the Gospel and pledge never to forget their down-home country roots in the process.

Retro Reality Check: The Faces of Love
Editor's Note: First published in February 2010
Love has many languages and also comes in many disguises. Among the faces of love are people like Mother Teresa, St. Francis of Assisi and Mary Magdalene. I’ve encountered some current faces of love that I wanted to share with you this month.
Stephen is a regular preacher who lives a regular life in a regular town. A few weeks ago, this town had an irregular snowstorm causing a lot of damage and loss of power. Stephen decided to shovel out the drive for the widow next door. He then headed to her neighbor’s house, owned by an 87-year-old lady who was also alone. Stephen shoveled her steps and walk, bringing her the mail that she had been unable to reach for several days. In the post was a check that the widow had been expecting for years, money that was desperately needed. She thanked Stephen and the Lord for giving her a good Christmas. She called him an ‘angel’ but Stephen said, ‘No, just a preacher with a shovel.’
William and Eunice have been married 70 years. The sweethearts have known each other all their lives, walking to school together, dating for a year and then marrying at 18 years of age. They pastored together for 50 years, raised a boy and girl, helped those in need and have been a blessing to all who have known them. Their road hasn’t been easy or carefree. Their son passed away twenty years ago. However, the years have been kind to this couple, their faces showing the results of lives well lived. William and Eunice radiate a love for God, for each other, and for those they meet.
I have a wonderful friend with a loving family and the gift of hospitality. In the last few years, she has undergone a battle that came close to taking her life several times. Walking through the wilderness of mental health issues, ‘Grace’ felt she had lost the love and presence of God in her life. Desperate and alone, she renounced the evil that had taken over her mind. Convinced there was no escaping an eternity of hell and separation from the Lord she loved, her days were a nightmare of voices, panic and terror.
Grace shared her story with a pastor and his wife. They spoke truth into her life, truth that was able to break the bonds that had ensnared her mind. Grace embraced this truth and realized that nothing could separate her from the love of God. She found that concentrating on the evil in her mind had kept her from running to the arms of her Savior. Her healing began on that day.
Today, through the love and mercy of a healing God, Grace is finding her way back to health. Her eyes radiate the peace and joy that once filled her life, but she is a changed person. Her thirst for more of God is greater than ever. She wants to know Him, to love Him with every fiber of her being. Grace had a calling on her life before entering the valley but now realizes that she is being refined as gold for the work that God has planned for her. Grace, in her desire to know more of God, exudes a love for Him that is powerful and humbling.
Love comes in many faces. I pray we seek to wear the face of the love of God in everything we do today.

Retro SGM Radio: Nick and Jessica: A Southern Gospel Love Story
Editor's Note: This SGM Radio feature was published February 2008.
Nick Trammell, currently with the Perrys, son of legendary baritone Mark Trammell, has been creating his own fan base with his smooth singing and classic good looks. Jessica Brown and her family have been making a name for themselves with their incredible talent and unique stage presentation. In December 2007, Nick and Jessica became engaged and they paused briefly in their busy lives to tell SGM Radio their love story.
SGM Radio: Please tell us a bit about yourselves and your involvement in Southern Gospel.
Jessica Brown: I came to know the Lord at the young age of 5. As I started to get a little older I had a few doubts in my mind and at the age of 14 I rededicated my life to the Lord.
I started singing as soon as I could talk. My mom would teach us different things using songs. We started singing 7 years ago as a family just singing at church and for my Grandma. The more we would sing the more we would sing! I love the message of southern gospel songs. I love the fans too! With them it’s like you become family and friends!
Nick Trammell: I was saved at the age of 18 after knowing who Jesus was but never personally knew him. I lived thinking I was saved up until that point and came to realize I wasn't during a church service in Feb of 2003.
I started singing with the Perrys in August of 2006. Before then I sang with local groups around where I live and sang in the show band and choir at the college I went to.
The thing I enjoy the most about southern gospel is the message behind the song. It has a true powerful meaning that has the ability to change a life unlike any other genre of music.
SGM Radio: Tell us about the start of your relationship.
Nick: Well Jessica claims to have met me at Gold City’s homecoming when Dad was with them, through a mutual friend that she had met at Steve Hurst's School of Music the week before. But I don't remember meeting her! The first time I ever remember seeing her was at NQC in 2002. A friend of mine and I were walking around the Expo Center and ran into their booth. He knew them from singing at a concert with The Browns in, oddly enough, Alabama, and introduced me to the family then. I was very shy when it came to talking to a girl at that time in my life so the only thing I could think was "Wow she's gorgeous. Don't say anything stupid!"We have several funny stories and most of them are stupid things I've done! So I'll tell one on her! After we got engaged she bought me a book that was a Groom’s guide for a wedding. I didn't understand why it took one year to plan 2 hours of your life. I'm slowly learning! Anyways, it gave reference to buying the engagement ring. When I was looking for a ring I had asked her about what kind she wanted and she had no clue about diamonds and the 4 C's.
So when I saw this page in the book I said, ‘Well maybe I need to be letting you read this on the 4 C's of a diamond?’ Having tried to teach her before about it, I asked her to name them. She gets this look on her face like she’s concentrating really hard and as serious as can be said, ‘Color, Clarity, Cut, and..... Quality??’ Quality... C-W-A-L-I-T-Y…And I am the one from Alabama!
Jessica: Like Nick said we met at a Gold City Homecoming. I can remember thinking that he was cute and quiet! But we became friends over time and would talk and see each other at NQC and concerts.
When he proposed I was shocked! We had talked about it so I knew it was coming but I didn't think it would be till February or April. So when he pulled off his glove and the ring was in his hand I yelled and then said, "Wait! You haven't asked my Dad!" He laughed and said, "I did, a long time ago!"
SGM Radio: How have you managed to maintain your relationship while both of you are on the road?
Nick: Cell Phones!! I’ve gone through 5 of them in a year and a half. Usually any time you see me away from her I have my phone out text messaging her. It was difficult to be so far away but God always worked out ways for our paths to cross or for us to get to visit each others homes and families as our relationship grew.
SGM Radio: How difficult is it to meet someone and then stay true to them in this industry?
Nick: If you are pure in your motives.... Not very!
SGM Radio: How have you grown in your spiritual life together?
Nick: We have done 2 or 3 devotion books together and it has really grown our relationship, both with each other and our relationships with Christ. I feel like I have grown more in my walk since I met her than I ever did before. In saying that, that’s one thing that really let me know I needed her in my life as well.
SGM Radio: Can you give us any wedding details?
Nick: It will be at Jessica’s home church in La Mars, Iowa, in December 2008. I’ll let her give the details because they may have changed since I was last told the plans! I do know it will be a Christmas wedding.
Jessica: Well he is right it will be a Christmas wedding! It will be silver and white. I already have my dress! I can’t tell you what it looks like though!
SGM Radio: Do you have any advice for single young people in the industry regarding relationships?
Nick: Take it slow! Don't try and do God’s job for him and rush things. Too many people get married too quickly for the wrong reasons when if they will just wait on God’s timing and pray about it they won't wind up another statistic. I'm no one to be giving marital advice though since I'm not married yet!
SGM Radio: Have you been given any advice about marriage?
Nick: The best advice I have been given is to learn how to say these 3 words:"Whatever you say!"
SGM Radio: What has God been speaking to you about today?
Nick: Enjoy the ride. Too many times I look ahead and say I can't wait until...or I'm so ready for...to where I miss the good things that are going on right now in my life.
Jessica: Cherish each moment together.

The Williamsons Release CD Project “Counting My Blessings”
Weleetka, OK (February 12, 2014) The Williamsons from Weleetka, OK are excited about the upcoming release of a brand new project featuring Lisa Williamson titled "Counting My Blessings". The release date is March 1, 2014. This CD is a mixture of some great songs by writers such as Dottie Rambo and Kevin Wright along with five original compositions by Lisa. It truly showcases the variety in Lisa's writing. From heartfelt ballads, to story songs, to a children's song sang by daughters, Sadie and Olivia Williamson, there is something to satisfy every listener.
They recently released their first radio single from this project titled "This Army Keeps Marching On" with Vertical Sky. Donna King said "I am so excited to be working with the Williamsons. We are getting ready to head into the studio this spring. I have followed their music and ministry for a long time and to get to produce a recording is really exciting for me. I am also thrilled to get a brand new single to radio for them. The song 'This Army Keeps Marching On' is energetic and vibey, while staying true to the great feel of real Southern Gospel music. I am looking for lots of wonderful things to come from this radio release."
Lisa says, "A good friend of ours showed me the original recording of this song, and I immediately fell in love with it. What a message! We may be weary but the army of God keeps marching on."
As usual she did a great job on a great song. The Williamsons latest recording can be purchased through their website.

About The Williamsons
The Williamsons began sharing the Gospel through music in 1998 as The Homesteaders Quartet. The dream of Donnie Williamson was to form a group to sing classic Gospel music on a limited basis. What he wanted to do never occurred. From the group's onset their demand was overwhelming. Soon they were performing more than 100 dates a year. For the past several years The Williamsons have been in full time Christian ministry and entertainment and have traveled across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Their music has been in national charts and they were honored to be nominated by the Gospel Music Association for a Dove Award.

(Los Angeles, Calif.) February 12, 2014 – After a decade-long tour, performing over 100 concerts a year, The Horn Family is slated to release their long awaited self-titled debut project on March 4, 2014 from RayLynn Records through Provident Distribution.
The Horn Family album was recorded in Nashville, Tenn. and produced by prolific country artist and renowned songwriter Mark Collie who has worked with artists such as Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, and JT Hodges.
Drawing from their unique life experiences, the entire band played a pivotal role in the songwriting process, with each member demonstrating a different perspective of God’s goodness and grace. Among the 10 tracks slated for the album, the celebratory tune “I’ve Got It” as well as the ballad “Rise Above the Fall” feature elevating lyrics and rhythmic melodies, giving a new meaning to contemporary country gospel.
Leading up to their album debut, the powerful single “For The Life Of Me” was recently released to radio and continues to garner adds at a number of highly respected stations around the nation.
The Horn Family offers a unique combination of country and contemporary gospel and is made up of Joel Horn, Tina Horn, Jamie Horn and Tracy Horn. Born for careers in Southern Gospel music, Joel and Jamie Horn were raised by their father, a Pentecostal preacher, on the tunes of legendary gospel families such as The Hinsons, Paynes and Crabbs. From what started off as a childhood passion, the two Horn siblings began to perform, eventually expanding into The Horn Family, when Joel and Jamie’s wives, Tina and Tracy, came on board to offer their vocal harmonies.
In 2011, co-owners of the Texas Rangers, Bob and Janice Simpson, unleashed their latest venture RayLynn Records, a new Christian music label for emerging performers, aimed to serve as a launch pad for breakthrough artists to share the Gospel through music. It was that same year they signed The Horn Family, who share a passion for spreading the message of Christ through music.
“Music has been a part of my entire life, beginning with the earliest childhood memories of my mother playing the piano as she sang classic gospel hymns,” says Bob Simpson. “RayLynn Records is the fulfillment of a dream that my wife Janice and I shared to bring truly God inspired music to the world delivered by talented artists such as the Horn family.”
The self-titled debut album will be available at Christian retail stores, iTunes, and Amazon beginning Tuesday, March 4, 2014. For more information about The Horn Family, please visit www.HornFamily.com or www.raylynnrecords.com.

Songwriter’s Forum With Joel Lindsey
Nashville, TN (February 10, 2014) Multi- Award winning songwriter, Joel Lindsey will present “Songwriter’s Forum With Joel Lindsey” on February 22, 2014 in North Augusta, South Carolina. With over 20 number one songs and more than 800 songs recorded, plus 13 Dove Awards, 4 Platinum records, 7 Gold records, and 11 Platinum videos to his credit, Lindsey will share songwriting wisdom and experience with new and veteran songwriters. In addition to learning songwriting skills, attendees will benefit from one constructive songwriting critique. One person will also be given the opportunity to co-write a song with Joel Lindsey.
“I love spending time with other songwriters talking about the ins and outs of what makes some songs connect with people more than others,” Lindsey stated. “I’ve been doing this for 25 years now and it’s a never-ending pursuit of trying to figure out how to communicate a song idea effectively. So for me, to have the chance to get in a room with other songwriters and to be able explore and examine all of that is a great opportunity. I have learned some tricks of the trade that I love to share, for sure, but I also find that every time I do something like this I learn great lessons as well. Songwriting is a great passion of mine but also, as a cancer survivor, raising money for cancer research is a great passion as well. So, doing forums like this gives me a chance to combine two great interests of mine in one day.”
The “Songwriter’s Forum With Joel Lindsey” will be held at the First Baptist Church of North Augusta, 625 Georgia Avenue, North August, South Carolina and will last from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for Cancer Research. For registration costs and more information, visit http://joellindseymusic.com
