Sunday Edition Welcomes Christina Dallas Jones to Group

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sunday Edition, one of Nashville’s favorite groups, is excited to announce the addition of Christina Dallas Jones to the group. Christina joins the group immediately and made her debut appearance with Sunday Edition on November 18, 2011 as a part of the USAGEM Convention and Awards Show.

“We are very excited to be adding such a seasoned and talented vocalist to our group,” mentioned Deon Unthank of Sunday Edition. “Christina is a class act, and we know that people are going to love the sound that she brings to our group.”

Deon continued, “Due to changes in our family over the last year with the passing of my wife and my subsequent remarriage, Amy’s move to the St. Louis area, and Chris’ recent marriage, the dynamic of our group was in for a major shift. No one is leaving the group, but adding Christina to our ministry will help us relieve some of the stress that having all three of us living in separate areas can create.”

Christina Dallas Jones is the wife of Mark209’s Jym Howe. She has a strong background in musical theater and opera.

Christina said, “I first began meeting the Unthank family shortly after my arrival to Nashville four years ago.  I soon found that they were not only charming and warm, but well respected people in the community.  I have since developed a personal friendship with them all.  After being exposed to Gospel music through my now husband, I grew an appreciation for their ministry.  I had quietly prayed and searched for a group to join with whom I felt I would fit.  With my musical background in opera, theatre, jazz, and pop, I would not fit with just any
Gospel group.  When Deon called, it thrilled me.  I have always enjoyed the styling of Sunday Edition and I love Chris’ vocal technique.  It is a privilege to sing with such a wonderful Christian family.”

With the addition of Christina, Sunday Edition is open to expanding their boundaries into new territories and ministry events. The group is currently booking for all time periods in 2012 and beyond. For more information on booking the group, call (615) 545-5315 or visit www.sundayedition.net .

Sunday Edition has had a stellar year. The group was recently honored with three nominations in the United States Associated of Gospel Entertainers & Musicians (USAGEM) Annual Awards Show. Sunday Edition received two nominations as a group – New Artist of the Year and Gospel Entertainer of the Year. In addition, the group’s lead vocalist Chris Unthank was named in the Male Vocalist of the Year category.

The group also earned two nominations in the 2011 SGM Fan Awards – including Favorite Album for Sunday Worship and Favorite Baritone for group patriarch Deon Unthank. The About.com readers also nominated the group for Best Southern Gospel Group in the 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards. The group was nominated alongside industry mainstays Gaither Vocal Band, The Isaacs, The Hoppers, and Ernie Haase & Signature Sound.

Sunday Edition’s new single, “Lift Up Your Eyes” (written by group member Amy Marie Unthank with Rebecca J. Peck), will ship Southern Gospel and Christian country radio at the first of the year. The group is currently writing material and choosing songs for their highly anticipated new mainline release. More information on that will be released at a later date.

An Open Letter From the Unthank Family

Dear friends and loved ones,

We can not begin to express the amount of gratitude that is in our hearts for the outpouring of love and grace that you have showed our family over the last three weeks. Susan's death was as unexpected to our family as it was to all of you. We knew that her health had been steadily declining over the last year, but we never had any inclination that 2010 would be the last year we had with her.

We want to give specific thanks to everyone who has donated financially to the family to help cover medical and memorial costs. Susan was uninsurable due to her diagnosis with Chacot-Marie-Tooth Disease (a form or Muscular Dystrophy). Your blessings to our family have made these last few weeks a much easier burden to carry, though it is far from over for our family.

We would like to extend special thanks to those artists that were a part of Susan's memorial as well as those that were going to be included but didn't get make it due to the weather and scheduling conflicts. Thank you to the Booth Brothers, Bowling Family, The Freemans, Jason Crabb, Devin McGlamery, Jason Morales, Shannon Smith, Jeremie Hudson, Ian Owens, Johnny Minick, Karen Peck & New River, The Perrys, Mystery Men Quartet, Kathy Crabb Hannah, Donna Beauvais, and Bev McCann for your willingness to be a part of such a hard but special day for our family.

The good news is that Susan had already set things in motion so that we could continue AbsolutelyGospel.com until long after she was gone. She was in the process of teaching our son, Chris, how to update the site and maintain it if something should happen to her. Chris has now stepped up and taken over editorial duties for the site in addition to running his own company, Southern Spin Entertainment. However, she didn't get around to teaching us everything we need to know. So, we ask that you, the readers and industry, be patient with us as we learn in a matter of weeks what it took Susan 15 years to learn and develop herself.

Susan left us and you, the industry, much too early. We feel inadequate to even try and fill the huge void that she left. Your prayers during this time of transition are very much appreciated. We envy your thoughts and prayers during this time, and we thank you in advance for continuing to visit the site that she so loved and poured her heart in to.

We have no plans of ending anything, and like she would have wanted, the show will go on. We still plan on holding the Absolutely Gospel Music Awards on April 12, 2011 in Smyrna, TN and are already making plans and confirming artists for the 12th Annual AG/SGN Music Fest this summer.

Once again, thank you for your support - both in prayers and finances - and we look forward to the future that God still holds for AbsolutelyGospel.com and our family.

In Christ,
Deon Unthank, Aaron Unthank, Leslie Hill, Scott Bandy, Amy Marie Unthank, and Chris Unthank

Sunday Edition Pays Tribute to the Music of the Church with the Release of Sunday Worship

New Project To Debut Next Month During National Quartet Convention

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – (August 14, 2010) – Sunday Edition, one of Nashville’s favorite groups, is excited about the release of the trio’s highly anticipated new recording – Sunday Worship. Sunday Worship is a conceptual recording that not only pays tribute to the group’s history singing in the church, but it also takes a look at the current landscape of church music.

Deon Unthank of Sunday Edition said, “All three of us have fond memories of going to our grandparents’ old country churches and singing along in worship with nothing more than our voices an old, out-of-tune piano. So, that inspired us when recording this record to strip it down to the way it used to be and just sing these songs from the bottom of our soul with nothing but a piano and the voices God gave us.”

Sunday Worship consists of six cherished hymns and five modern worship songs set to an acoustic, piano only accompaniment.

Deon Unthank, who also co-produced the record, said, “Everywhere we go, people ask us to sing one of two things – either worship songs or hymns. Well, this release focuses on both those aspects of church music.”

“We are so excited about this release, because we really feel like you can sense the heart and emotion behind these songs,” mentioned Amy Marie Unthank of Sunday Edition. “We picked these songs, because they mean something to each of us.”

Sunday Worship was recorded with the concept of “less-is-more” in mind. Very little digital enhancements and processing was used on the vocals, and the group opted out of using vocal stacks and vocal alignment for this album.

“More than anything, we wanted this recording to feel authentic. We didn’t want it to sound over-produced and over-processed. What’s great is that you do get to hear blemishes in our voices and moments where we could have sang it better – but we wanted to make it sound like we were in an old country church singing these songs – just like we remember. We hope we accomplished that,” mentioned co-producer and Sunday Edition member Chris D. Unthank.

Sunday Worship features an equal share of modern and classic worship tunes like “Blessed Assurance,” “Precious Lord,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Indescribable,” “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone),” and “Friend of God,” in addition to many more songs.

Vocals for the new album were recorded at Square One Studio in Franklin, Tennessee. The project was produced by group members Chris and Deon Unthank, and all vocals were arranged by Sunday Edition. Jeff Duffield mixed and mastered the recording, while tracks for the album were performed and recorded by Bobby McAllister (for Salem-Sound in Winston-Salem, NC). The group enlisted the help of Deon’s pastor Johnny Minick for the piano on “Feeling Mighty Fine.” Steve Allen and Aaron Minick also assisted in engineering for the project.

Sunday Worship will debut and be available to purchase for the first time during the week of the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kentucky from September 13-18, 2010. Sunday Edition will be performing on Monday afternoon’s Featured Artist Showcase from 3:00-4:00 p.m. and will be singing selections from the new release at the showcase.

Sunday Edition recently released their follow-up to the smash-hit “He Bore a Cross.” The new single, titled “Mercy Walks a Road,” was once again produced by Glen Bates and written by Bates and Glen Ashworth. The new song is another special single release with BSA World Records.

The song is currently available for radio stations to download via Chuck Peters’ SG Show Prep and was released to radio through DJ Man Promotions and BSA World Records. In addition, the song is also being promoted to radio by TS Promotions, the Rick Hendrix Company, and Music City Media Group.

SGM Radio Blog’s Top Ten: Sunday Edition

We are thrilled to share with you these mini-interviews with some great Southern Gospel artists! Check back often to see who is next on the SGM Radio Blog's Top Ten!

Sunday Edition

Sunday Edition began in 1972 as a male quartet. Founder Deon Unthank now sings with his children, Chris and Amy Marie Unthank. Sunday Edition is based in Tennessee and sings across the United States. Chris and Amy Marie operate Southern Spin Entertainment, Amy Marie is a prolific songwriter and the Unthanks own the popular AbsolutelyGospel.com website.

Sunday Edition’s Top Ten by Deon Unthank

1. Please tell us the name of your latest recording and your favorite song from that CD. What is the message behind this song?
Our latest recording is a Hymns and Praise project which features 5 Hymns and 5 Praise songs. The Hymns are all pretty old and the Praise and Worship songs are all ones that any SG fan would be very comfortable with. My favorite song would be "Blessed Assurance". It's an old Hymn that has a message that still touches today, because we all need to rely on that blessed hope in Jesus and the assurance that every day He is there for us.

2. What is one group highlight from the last 12 months?
A definite highlight has been working with Glen Bates, who is a great songwriter. Glen has written two songs for us to release for radio,"He Bore A Cross" which went to # 43 on the charts, and our new release "Mercy Walks A Road". It's really exciting to know that someone has enough confidence in us as a group to invest his heart by giving us his songs.

3. Have you been on a mission trip? If you have, where did you go? If you haven’t, would you like to and where would you want to go?
Yes, I have been on four Mexico Missions trips. I would encourage everyone who can to go on a mission trip. It will change your life.
I am not rich according to America's standards, but when I come back home from mission trips to Mexico I always feel like a rich American.
I have never failed to go on a mission trip that I didn't meet a person from that country that I could not get out of my mind. t is such a rich experience.

4. What artist are you listening to right now?
Actually I'm not listening, I have one eye on the keyboard and one eye on the TV where I'm watching "Throwdown With Bobby Flay". I love the cooking channel.

5. What was the best decade for music? Favorite artist from that decade?
For me that would be from 1962 to 1972. I had more than one favorite. The Imperials were certainly at the top of my list. I loved Jake Hess with them, but I think my favorite was the Jim Murray, Terry Blackwood, Roger Wiles, Armond Morales group. The Stamps with JD Sumner, Donnie Sumner, Jimmy Blackwood, and Jim Hill, or JD, Donnie, Jimmy, and Roy McNeil, or JD, Donnie, Ed Enoch, Bill Baize, and Ed Wideman, and the Statesmen with Rosie, Jack, Doyle, and Big Chief. That era of SGM is my favorite. Again I can't settle on just one Artist. My favorites would be Jack Toney and Roy McNeil.

6. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
A man with my looks and my build does not need a superpower..... LOL

7. What would be your fantasy venue, the one stage in the world where you would like to sing?
This one is easy. If I could sing anywhere in the world I would like to sing at the Whitehouse. To sing before the President of the United States, no matter the party would be phenomenal. Just to think that you would have the chance to minister and touch the heart of the most powerful man in the world would be awesome.

8. Who is your most favorite Bible person/character?
Being left-handed, I like Gideon, because he went to war with a left-handed army.

9. What is your favorite thing to shop for?
I guess this will show how weird I am, but I love to grocery shop. My wife just doesn't understand how I can take so long at the grocery store. But when you are reading labels and comparing prices, it's way to get involved in shopping. The bad thing is when I go to the grocery store for something, come home with 5 bags of stuff and still don't have what I went there for.

10. Name a character trait or fruit of the spirit you would really like to develop in your life.
"Goodness". I would like to have more goodness in my life that I could see the hurting people around me. I'm afraid that I live my life so fast paced that
I often miss the troubles that people around me are having.

Sunday Edition Completes Vocals for Much Anticipated New Release

New Project Is An Intimate Look at the Music of the Church

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sunday Edition, one of Nashville’s favorite groups, was recently in the studio finishing up vocals for their much-anticipated recording. Vocals were recorded at Square One Studio in Franklin, Tennessee. The project is being produced by group members Chris and Deon Unthank with additional production by Steve Allen (Vestal Goodman, Legacy Five, Gold City), and all vocals were arranged by Sunday Edition.

The new recording, simply titled Sunday Worship, will be an intimate recording featuring a piano-only backdrop that focuses on the music of the church.

Deon Unthank of Sunday Edition said, “Everywhere we go, people ask us to sing one of two things – either worship songs or hymns. Well, this release focuses on both those aspects of church music.”

“We love all of these songs, and they mean so much to us for different reasons. We have had such a blast singing these songs and seeing how people react to such timeless songs,” mentioned Chris Unthank of Sunday Edition.

Sunday Worship is scheduled to be released this Spring through Southern Spin Records.

Sunday Edition recently released their follow-up to the smash-hit “He Bore a Cross.” The new single, titled “Mercy Walks a Road,” was once again produced by Glen Bates and written by Bates and Glen Ashworth. The new song is another special single release with BSA World Records.

The song is currently available for radio stations to download via Chuck Peters’ SG Show Prep and will be released in March through DJ Man Promotions, TS Promotions, and the Rick Hendrix Company.

“He Bore a Cross” became the group’s biggest hit to date earlier this year – giving them their highest charting position on the Singing News Top 80 (#44) and earning the group its first Top 10 New Release. In addition, the song landed Sunday Edition its second #1 hit on the GospelMusicTimes.com Top 40 Fan Chart. The song has also charted on all major Southern Gospel charts – SoGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart, Christian Voice Magazine Top 100 Southern Gospel Chart, and PowerSource Magazine Top 100 Southern Gospel chart.
