Burman Porter Back On the Road with the Dove Brothers

David Hester Comes off the Road

BLADENBORO, N.C. – (August 16, 2011) –The Dove Brothers are excited to announce the return of Burman Porter to the mutli-award winning group. Porter, the original bass vocalist for the group, will rejoin the group at the first of September after the departure of long-time bass vocalist David Hester.

Hester is leaving the road to go home and be a full-time grandfather.

McCray Dove of the Dove Brothers said, “It’s really that simple. We have been nothing but happy with David in the group. He was just ready to start planning his retirement and watch his grandkids grow up. David has been an essential part of our team, and we will miss him greatly.”

McCray continued, “Burman is one of the best bass singers in this industry, and we are ecstatic that he is coming back on the road with us. We know that our friends and fans are going to enjoy seeing him back with us.”

McCray unofficially announced the return of Porter at last week’s Grand Ole Gospel Reunion where the original Dove Brothers (consisting of McCray Dove, Eric Dove, Burman Porter, and John Rulapaugh) performed a reunion set. That line-up of the group won Favorite Traditional Male Quartet in the prestigious Singing News Fan Awards in 2002.

The group has since been at the forefront of Gospel music with their cutting edge blend of traditional Southern Gospel and modern country sounds. The group’s brand new Sonlite Recordings album, simply titled Live, will release on September 20, 2011.

According to AbsolutelyGospel.com (formerly SoGospelNews.com), the Dove Brothers were named the most played artist of 2010 at Southern Gospel radio. Due to the group’s #1 hits “Hold On” and “If I Knew Then,” the Dove Brothers ranked #1 on the site’s Top 20 Most Played Artists of 2010 list. In addition, the Dove Brothers’ #1 hit, “Hold On” (which was penned by McCray Dove), was named the #1 Song of the Year according to the site’s Top 100 Songs of 2010 list. The quartet’s other #1 single, “If I Knew Then,” ranked at #10 on the list as well.

Dove Brothers Announce Jonathan Price As New Tenor

BLADENBORO, N.C. – (October 18, 2010) – Multi-award winning quartet the Dove Brothers are excited to announce the addition of Jonathan Price as the group’s new tenor vocalist.

“We auditioned Jonathan this weekend, and he brought the house down,” mentioned McCray Dove, owner/manager/lead vocalist of the popular quartet. “He’s got a different sound than any of our previous tenors, but it’s a good fit, and we’re excited about his future with our group.”

McCray continued, “I was taught a long time ago by a prominent member of the Gospel music community that you don’t go looking for a replacement when someone leaves your group. You have to look for someone who brings something fresh to the group. Jonathan brings that fresh sound to our group, and we know he’s going to do an exciting job in this post.”

Jonathan has a strong resume within the Southern Gospel music community. Price joins the Dove Brothers after a three-year tenure with the Dixie Melody Boys. Price sang with Paul’s Journey before the Dixie Melody Boys. Jonathan and his wife Vivian currently reside in Farmville, North Carolina.

Price will begin full-time with the Dove Brothers during the month of November. Price replaces long-time vocalist Jerry Martin who left the group to pursue other interests.

The Dove Brothers released their critically acclaimed album Unshakeable earlier this year. The first single from that release – “If I Knew Then” – just hit #1 on the AbsolutelyGospel.com (formerly SoGospelNews.com) Top 40 Weekly Chart this week. The song is also quickly climbing the Singing News Top 80 chart – coming in at #42 on the upcoming November chart in only its second month of charting.

Jerry Martin Departs the Dove Brothers

BLADENBORO, N.C. – (October 15, 2010) – Multi-award winning quartet the Dove Brothers regretfully announce the departure of long-time tenor vocalist Jerry Martin.

McCray Dove said, “Jerry has been a big part of our group for the last eight and a half years. This decision was mutual between us. We have no hard feelings for Jerry and wish him the best in the future. Sometimes one knows when their time is up with a group, and Jerry felt that it was time for him to transition to a new area. What that is exactly we don’t know – but we love Jerry and support him in whatever way he chooses to go.”

Dove continued, “We want to squelch any rumors that Jerry left because of creative differences. There really isn’t any more to the story. We both just felt it was time, and we are still great friends!”

During his tenure with the Dove Brothers, Jerry was the voice behind the #1 Song of 2007 and SGN Music Award Song of the Year winner “I Can Pray.” Jerry has earned multiple Favorite Tenor nominations in the Singing News Fan Awards and a Male Vocalist of the Year nod in the SGN Music Awards during his time with the group.

Until a permanent replacement can be named, the Dove Brothers have enlisted the help of Phil Barker (formerly of the Singing Americans) to fill in. The group is currently auditioning vocalists for the position, and a replacement will be named in the coming weeks.

An open letter from the Dove Brothers

The Dove Brothers would like to thank all of our friends and fans who have supported us for the past 12 years. You have been so kind, buying our CDs and DVDs and T-shirts through the years and for that, we are grateful.

As we all know, the current economy is arguably the worst since the Great Depression. The Dove Brothers have decided that until our nation is over this recession and the economy is back on its feet, all of our CDs and DVDs in our web store and at our product table at all concerts will be available for only $10 dollars each. (Shipping and handling is required for web orders.)

We pray that this will help keep Southern Gospel music and the Dove Brothers in your home, car, and on your computer, during these tough economic times.

Sincerely,
McCray Dove

Latest News from The Dove Brothers

The Dove Brothers just finished up their latest recording with Sonlite Records. This album features some great songs written by Gerald Crabb (Hey Lazarus), Phil Cross (Preaching In Prison), and McCray Dove penned a couple for this recording (If I Knew Then & I Recall). The Dove Brothers have done it again with a mixture of old and new songs blended in with their Country Gospel flavor that shows their versatility musically and vocally and can still deliver the four part harmony Southern Gospel style. From the new country popish vocals of Jerry Martin to the old country stylings that McCray Dove offers with his vocals and not to forget the low down solid bass performance that David Hester gives with each song. Eric blends it all in and holds it together with his smooth baritone vocals. This combination can do it all with a variety of styles.
They're UNSHAKEABLE!

The CD UNSHAKEABLE is scheduled to be released by the end of July and the Dove Brothers are already making preparations for the UNSHAKEABLE Tour in the near future. "We are so excited about this new project and the songs that we will perform on this new tour. We are getting ready and getting geared up for the launch of the new recording as well as performing these great songs. We hope you will enjoy what we have worked hard at giving you on the UNSHAKEABLE project. We look forward to coming to a city near you and you having a blast at our concerts. Here is some behind the scenes footage of a session featuring the song Unstoppable. Enjoy! Click here to view.

A Sneak Peak!

Now is your chance to vote for your favorite song off of the latest recording by the Dove Brothers entitled "UNSHAKEABLE". The last time we did this for the Hold On recording it was a huge success in seeing what you the fans wanted to hear on the radio. So we are doing it again. You can vote once a day and we are offering a Sneak Peak of the songs now in the player on our website. Just like last time, your favorite could be the one picked for the first single! So have a great time listening and don't forget to vote!

Band News!

The Dove Brothers are excited about the addition of the band. This 3 piece ensemble comprises of Adam Harman on piano, Marc Peele on the bass and Devin Dove rounding out the band on drums. The band officially started at the Dove Brothers Homecoming event. McCray states, "I remember going to concerts when I was a kid. Southern Gospel music had some of the most talented musicians in any style of music you would ever hear. My family would go early to the concerts because we knew the place would be packed! We wanted a good seat. When we got there and they seated you, we could see all the instruments. The piano, guitars, steel guitar, drums etc. the microphones all in place and you could feel the excitement in the air and all around you throughout the building." We just don't feel that anymore it seems. I also believe it is because we got away from LIVE music. We have left the young people out of our music unless they can sing or drive a bus, we don't have a place for them. If everyone who loves Southern Gospel music wants to see more young people get involved and support it then we say LET THEM PLAY! Give them an opportunity to be apart of our music with the talents that God has given them. If you love live music like we do and want to experience the excitement like it was back in the 70's and 80's era of music, then we believe you will love the next Dove Brothers concert with the addition of Adam, Marc and Devin. Coming to a city near you!
