About The Promise

For centuries Christians have sung praises to our Heavenly Father at important events. In Luke 2:13-14 we find that they sang praises on the announcement of the birth of Jesus Christ and Matthew records in chapter 26 that the Apostles sang during the last supper. The Promise keeps this tradition alive by singing the praises of our Savior in churches and concerts across the land.

Kingdom Heirs Celebrate #1 Hit "Just Preach Jesus"

Sonlite Records President Chris White recently presented The Kingdom Heirs with plaques commemorating their recent #1 hit song, "Just Preach Jesus." The song reached #1 on the April 2013 Singing News Radio Airplay Chart.

"A little over 25 years ago, the Kingdom Heirs' first single, 'Test Of Time,' went to #2, just missing #1," White said. "Many years later, we still hadn't reached the top of the charts, beginning to wonder if we ever would. Now, the group has had a very impressive run to the top and 'Just Preach Jesus' may be the best so far. Its message makes it both timely and timeless."

Kingdom Heirs manager Steve French agreed, adding: "'Just Preach Jesus' is a song of encouragement for our preachers and pastors. The key to our sermons and what we tell the world about is the same for today as it was for 2000 years, and that's to tell a lost world about Jesus."

The Kingdom Heirs' current single, "Just Beyond the Sunset," is quickly following "Just Preach Jesus" to the top of the charts. The month it released to radio, it was the song selected by the most radio DJs as a pick hit; in only its second month on the chart, it has already climbed to #20.

From Gold City's Newsletter of October 31, 2012:

WEEKEND REWIND

Gold City was all over the map this weekend. We started out in Strasburg, VA on Thursday, then made our way to Port Crane, NY. Saturday we were in Cranberry, PA, when Hurricane Sandy started gaining momentum. Guess you could say we sang up a storm, because the rain and wind seemed to follow us right over to Shelby, OH where we finished out the weekend. Great times with great people, singing the greatest music in the world. Not a bad combination at all! And we were glad to have Daniel Riley back on the road with us this weekend after a few weeks off for some sinus surgery. He’s back and sounding great!

THE WEEK AHEAD

It’s a very important time in our nation. On November 6th, we will be electing many political candidates into office, including the head of our nation for the next four years. The privilege to vote is an honor that we should not take lightly or for granted. Many countries around the world do not have the right to let their voice be heard. Thousands of men and women have died defending the freedoms and rights we have in the United States. This is a call to action– pray for wisdom at the voting poll, and exercise your right to vote!

I GET DOWN

Thank you for calling in to your local radio station and requesting our latest single, "I Get Down." We think it is a message that prayer equals hope! So many of you let us know each week in concert that you are fighting battles, and many more of you have those unspoken burdens that are so private, you can’t even share them. But we know that down on our knees is the place to take care of it all. So, keep requesting and listening and knowing that we are lifted up when we get down on our knees.

STORY ALERT

Did you know our Tim Riley is featured in the November issue of Singing News magazine? In honor of Veteran’s Day, Tim was featured along with Les Beasley (retired member of the Florida Boys) and Ray Dean Reese (Kingsmen). These three men served our nation in the Armed Forces. Tim shared about his days in Vietnam. There’s even an old photo of his days with the Dixie Echoes. A must-read!!

ANNUAL EVENT ALERT

Gold City will be one of the featured artists on Friday, November 23rd in Florence, AL at the Florence Coliseum. It’s Alabama’s oldest and largest Thanksgiving Sing. Our friends, The Perrys, Jeff and Sheri Easter, and Karen Peck and New River will be joining us for this fantastic evening. For more information, go to www.billbaileyconcerts.com.

DANNY’S FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"The greatest enemy to human souls is the self-righteous spirit which makes men look to themselves for salvation." -Charles Spurgeon

AS ALWAYS

Gold City wants to thank each of you who take time to come out and see us. We thank you for always supporting our ministry in such an overwhelming way. Have a great week!

Charlie Burke Passes Away

Announcement from Singing News.com

Singing News has learned that Charles Burke has passed away today (Friday, Sept. 23) at around 7 a.m. at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Early indications suggest that Mr. Burke suffered a brain aneurysm late last night at his home near Maiden, North Carolina. He had just celebrated his 75th birthday Sunday, Sept. 18.

Mr. Burke is generally regarded as a "behind-the-scenes" guiding force of Southern Gospel music. Among his numerous contributions to music in bringing life harmony are his distinguished service as a Board Member of the Southern Gospel Music Association and the Southern Gospel Music Hall Of Fame. An entrepreneur with several diversified businesses to his credit, including partial ownership of the National Quartet Convention, Mr. Burke was a driving force behind the outstanding quartet, The Singing Americans, and, with his son Michael, owned Tape Corporation Of America.

The following is a statement from Clarke Beasley about Charles Burke:

"The greatest among us are those who do not focus on elevating themselves but elevating others. Charles Burke spent a lifetime elevating others, dreaming dreams and bringing them to fruition, advancing the cause of the music he loved and the professionals within that music that he loved even more. To the countless people whose lives he impacted, his memory will be cherished and he will be greatly missed.

Last week, as president of the Southern Gospel Music Guild, I watched as Mr. Burke was celebrated by the people who loved him most as he was presented the Lifetime Achievement Honor. I am so glad he knew just how much he was appreciated."

A tremendous discoverer and encourager of new musical talent, Mr. Burke was instrumental in the careers of such persons as Clayton Inman and David Sutton of The Triumphant Quartet, Ivan Parker, Danny Funderburk, as well as such grous as The Whisnants, The Reggie Saddler Family and The Dove Brothers.

In a conversation this morning with Michael Burke, Michael says that the family appreciates all the prayers during this time. He further states that funeral arrangements are pending, but will be shared as soon as they are finalized.

News from The Perrys

News From Libbi Perry Stuffle, from The Perry's Email Newsletter:

I know, I know it's been a while since I've written! Seems like time just gets away from me, the older I get. :0) We have been so blessed to have a busy schedule this year. We've just returned from a 10 day vacation, which was very much needed! Now, we are full force (Lord willing) until December.

I know everyone is wanting a update on Tracy and how he's progressed since his heart attack and open heart surgery last August. Tracy as of date has lost 97 lbs!!! He has three more go and then he will be in the battle to keep it off. Tracy is regaining his strength back every day. He went to the driving range this week and was pleased with how he did, so now he's ready to hit the golf course! He is off ALL insulin! He takes metformin twice a day. He's been very disciplined about what he eats and that makes my job a lot easier. We do ask those of you that want to bring snacks and food to him on the road, please make sure it is low fat, low carb and low sodium. I know, that it's hard to find stuff that is all three, but it can be done. With summer here, we are love being able to get fresh veggies, so please feel free to bring all the tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, onions, beans, lettuce, sweet potatoes, red bell peppers, and any other veggies you want to get rid of to our bus!! :0) Thanks once again for all of the prayers, cards, letters, emails, texts and love gifts. You will never ever know what each one has meant to us. Please continue to pray for us as we continue on this journey to a better and healthier lifestyle change.

A lot of people have ask what Tracy eats daily, so I have created a Facebook page that shows a lot of his meals with the recipes of how I fixed them. It's found at www.facebook.com/eattolivelibstuffle. We welcome any advice, healthy recipes and we also encourage others. A lot of people like us struggle with being overweight and eating healthy, so here we can all encourage each other!

THE STATLER BROTHERS TO RECEIVE 2011 JAMES D. VAUGHAN IMPACT AWARD

The Statler Brothers, one of the most award-winning groups in music history, will receive the 2011 James D. Vaughan Impact Award on Sept. 28 during a special ceremony at Dollywood at the Southern Gospel Music Association’s (SGMA) annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Singing News Fan Awards.
“We are honored to be offered the James D. Vaughan Impact Award,” the Statler Brothers said. “The SGMA has done a wonderful job of preserving Southern gospel for the ages, and we’re proud to be a part of the family. There still is nothing more inspiring, exciting and fulfilling than a Southern gospel concert with high tenors and low basses with arrangements that make your heartstrings stand on end.”
Group members Harold Reid, Phil Balsley, Jimmy Fortune and Don Reid will attend to accept the award which is named in honor of James D. Vaughan, a Southern gospel music pioneer and one of the genre’s founders. Past recipients include Bill Gaither, James Blackwood, Les Beasley, Bob Brumley, Mosie Lister, Paul Heil, Eva Mae LeFevre, J.G. Whitfield, Lari Goss, Barbara Mandrell and Dolly Parton.
“Not only are their roots firmly planted in Southern gospel music, the Statler Brothers’ incredible career carried Southern gospel to millions of country music fans and beyond,” said Charlie Waller, SGMA executive director. “Their rich musical legacy makes us proud to honor them with the James D. Vaughan Impact Award.”
The Statler Brothers, founded in 1955 in Staunton, Va., began performing in local churches with founding members Don Reid, lead; Harold Reid, bass; Balsley, baritone; and Lew DeWitt, tenor. Fortune became the group’s tenor singer in the early 1980s, replacing DeWitt who died in 1990. The Statler Brothers appeared regularly on ABC’s "The Johnny Cash Show" early in their career. They hosted "The Statler Brothers Show" their own weekly and top-rated variety show on The Nashville Network from 1991 to 1998. With more than 40 albums, the Statler Brothers were honored with three Grammy® Awards, nine Country Music Association Awards for Vocal Group of the Year, and two Academy of Country Music Awards. The Statler Brothers were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. The group’s career spanned six decades until the Statler Brothers officially retired in October 2002.
The SGMA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony/Singing News Fan Awards is Sept. 28 at DP’s Celebrity Theatre at Dollywood, home of the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame. Seating is reserved, and tickets are $75 ($55 for Dollywood season passholders) and include one-day Dollywood admission, parking and lunch as well as Dollywood’s more than 40 rides, shows and attractions. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling the SGMA office at (865) 908-4040.

The SGMA is a non-profit organization that maintains the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame, the only facility honoring Southern gospel music and dedicated to the historic preservation of the genre’s accomplishments, both for the music and the people. Museum hours coincide with Dollywood’s operating schedule. Donations are tax-deductible. For more information about the museum or its inductees, visit www.sgma.org.
