AUSTIN’S WOOD & WIRE RELEASES ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM

String quartet to showcase at SXSW

AUSTIN, TX — Austin’s own Wood & Wire releases its self-titled debut album today. Recorded in Nashville and produced by award-winning engineer Erick Jaskowiack, WOOD & WIRE showcases more than a dozen original bluegrass and Americana compositions written by the group.

Hailed by CMT.com as “an enthusiastic quartet,” the band includes Tony Kamel on guitar, Matt Slusher on mandolin, Dom Fisher on bass and Trevor Smith on banjo. The new album also features special guest Brittany Haas of Crooked Still on fiddle.

WOOD & WIRE serves up a huge helping of homespun tradition and dazzling musicality, with fast and furious picking on tunes like “Bet the World” and “Ramblers.” It also slips into more somber moods with songs like “Nowhere and Gone” and the delicate waltz “Fool Outta Me.” Earnest three-part harmonies take the listener from the coal mines of Kentucky to the badlands of Mexico and all toe-tapping points in between.

Wood & Wire was originally founded in 2010 by Kamel and Slusher, with Fisher and Smith later rounding out the quartet. After playing with a smattering of local bands, the group’s members coalesced last spring and began to hone their tight-knit arrangements, foot-stomping instrumentation and songwriting talents, all of which are captured on the new album.

“These gentlemen are on fire!” says Laurie Gallardo of KUTX radio in Austin, and that fire is spreading rapidly. Wood & Wire has been performing select shows with Yonder Mountain String Band and will showcase at SXSW in March. The band’s spring tour will take them from one end of Texas to the other before returning them to Austin for the Old Settler’s Music Festival in April.

To celebrate the release of its debut album, Wood & Wire will make an in-store appearance at Waterloo Records in Austin on Feb. 7. The band’s CD release show will be held at the Cactus Café in Austin on Feb. 8.
