Ripley, Mississippi (Jan 23, 2014) Gerald Crabb and Alisa Asbury of A&G Entertainment are pleased to announce plans are underway for Southern Gospel's newest Gospel Music event, Gerald Crabb's Gospel Fest. Gospel Music artists and fans will gather on Labor Day weekend 2014, August 28, 29, 30 and 31st, at the Dalton Trade and Convention Center in Dalton, Georgia to experience the best in Southern Gospel Music, Crabb-style! Gerald Crabb commented, "I am so excited about our first Gerald Crabb’s Gospel Fest. It will feature morning worship services that will include special guests, artist seminars, a talent search, and lots of great Gospel music. It will be very similar to the Crabb Fest that was held in years past in Owensboro, Kentucky. You will not want to miss this event."

In the mid 90’s, Crabb Fest was launched in a church parking and grew into a four-day major event with the Saturday night attendances reaching 5,000 or more. Several artists such as Joseph Habedank and Josh Franks were discovered at Crabb Fest talent contests and many memories were made as the best artists in all of Gospel Music performed. “Everyone looked forward to Crabb Fest each year,” Crabb stated. “It was a great time to fellowship with one another, and to be spiritually uplifted as well as a time to enjoy great music. I believe Southern Gospel music fans are going to love that we are bringing back the spirit of Crabb Fest to our new event.”

During Gerald Crabb's Gospel Fest there will also be afternoon showcases featuring regional artists. “We were thrilled with the response from artists from many states wanting to participate in this year’s event,” Alisa Asbury remarked. “These groups are greatly talented and have thriving music ministries. It is a pleasure to help them expand their fan-base and give them opportunities to take their ministries to a new level. We’re also excited to host a talent contest that will allow rising new artists a chance to expose their talents to industry professionals.”

The evening performance line-up is stellar. Thursday night’s concert will feature the Grammy award winning artist, Jason Crabb. On Friday evening, the Gaither Vocal Band’s new lead singer, Adam Crabb will perform along with Crabb Family vocalist, Terah Crabb Penhollow and the popular duo, Josh and Ashley Franks. Retro SGM Radio: Women of Substance Series Featuring Sheri Easter

{Editor's Note: This series on the Women of Southern Gospel by Lorraine Walker began in the Fall of 2007 and continued into 2008 on SGM Radio website. We hope you enjoy this feature on Sheri Easter!

Last fall, we began a series on the awesome women in Southern Gospel Music and we’ve talked to current legends like Kim Hopper, Karen Peck Gooch and Susan Whisnant. These amazing ladies are more than just a sweet voice and a pretty smile; they each have depth of character and a heart after God. The same holds true for our July Woman of Substance, Sheri Easter.

One of the greatest stories in Southern Gospel was the joining of the youngest generation of two bluegrass groups, The Lewis Family and The Easter Brothers. Polly (Lewis) Williamson Copsey’s daughter, Sheri, married Jeff Easter, son of James Easter. They began to tour as Jeff and Sheri and the accolades continue to flow to this day.

Jeff and Sheri have had many talented artists travel with them throughout the years, from Greg and Charlotte Ritchie to Jeff’s brother Rabbit Easter. Currently, they are sharing the stage with daughter Morgan on vocals and son Madison on electric guitar. Even little Maura Grace takes a turn on the drums occasionally. Mom and Dad couldn’t be more thrilled, as Sheri shared with SGM Radio recently at a concert in Hamilton, Ontario.

“It’s absolutely incredible,” says Sheri. “It’s just a wonderful gift. Morgan has wanted to sing since she was just a kid. This is her opportunity, this is her day and I’m very proud of her. She’s doing a great job!”

Sheri’s pride in her children glows through her eyes as she talks about their talents. She’s thrilled to have them onstage and happy that they can all travel together as a family. “There is a freedom that I can’t explain,” Sheri says. “Not that it was ever bad before because we were gifted and fortunate to travel with people that we really loved, people that were very close friends. But traveling with your family is probably like you feel when you get home and you’ve been with people all night and you kick your shoes off, take your jacket off and relax. There’s that freedom. So that’s kind of fun!”

“We are enjoying this. It gives the children a chance to express themselves more onstage, and we’ve known all along that this is what they would end up doing.” As Sheri works with Morgan and watches her develop into a singer, she has given her advice that is useful for any new young artist.

“One thing that I’ve told Morgan from day one, is to ‘sing from your heart’. Don’t sing anything you don’t believe. Sing songs you believe and that you would want to speak to somebody. It should be a message you agree with and a message you can put your whole heart into. And, don’t ever be afraid to work hard. That’s the best advice I can offer to anybody. God will do all the door opening.”
Sheri’s role as a wife, mother, mentor, Southern Gospel artist and businesswoman, often leave her with little time for herself, and little time for communion with God. “There are times when I have felt so overwhelmed and I would say, ‘This has just got to be the busiest we have ever been’, and I would look at an old date list and it was just as busy!” Sheri confesses. “You just have to know that when you travel this much, you have to make time to get with God. You don’t have the luxury of going to church on Sunday morning and Wednesday night, so you just have to find God in your places and in your own time schedule.”

“I keep a Bible in my restroom, near my bed, on my breakfast bar, and on the bus,” Sheri continues. “I keep a Bible everywhere so they are easily accessible. I pick them up and I read every opportunity I get a chance to. I don’t have the luxury of time that I would like, but I know that if I don’t find God I am going to be depleted very quickly. I am not going to be able to keep up with this schedule if I can’t find my peace of mind and the leading and guiding from God. I have to make time for that.”

“I was fifteen years old when I started traveling fulltime. At the time, I was a member of the praise team at my church, so I was in church Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night and Tuesday night Youth Service. So it was difficult to go from that to traveling,” says Sheri. “But Jeff and I are prayer warriors. We don’t hesitate to pray about anything and every opportunity that comes our way. We truly try to acknowledge God in all of our ways and ask Him to direct our paths.”

“I can remember when our kids were little, 3 or 4 years old. One day I was praying and the kids walked into the kitchen. They never said anything; they waited until I was done. Then they asked, ‘Who are you praying for, Mama?’ So it was commonplace enough that it looked like the ‘norm’ for them. They didn’t see it as a strange situation. They knew that I was praying for somebody.”

“It’s a part of our lives,” Sheri continues. “We keep involved with God 24 hours a day so we don’t have to worry about that one church service that we aren’t able to attend. I don’t know how people face the hard times if they don’t have that grounding.”

Sheri gave the following illustration: “I have a very dear friend who is now a pastor’s wife, and who I’ve known for 25 years. About seven years into our friendship, she shared something with me that was surprising. She said, ‘Sheri, my husband and I are not Christians. We know we need to be.’ I can remember thinking, ‘How do you get through each day without that peace of mind?’”

“She told me later that they weren’t ‘getting through’ at all,” says Sheri. “At that point, they made a profession of faith, they both started serving Christ and for about ten years now he has been pastoring. They have true pastors’ hearts; they really love their congregation and give everything they have to those people. It’s been a gift to watch them grow in God.”

Jeff and Sheri were mentors to these friends and didn’t even know it. Sheri says that they assumed their friends, who were regular church attendees, shared their faith. During those seven years, the friendship they shared helped this couple grow in their faith and take the step of commitment to Christ.

Sheri herself has had many mentors in her life, “Especially my Mom and Dad. They were really good at being parents. I don’t ever remember them making mistakes, though I’m sure they did as all parents do. They loved me in spite of everything.”

“My Grandmother was probably the greatest Christian influence in my life. She was always reading her Bible, always quoting scriptures to us, always using scriptures in everyday speech. She would just come out with, ‘Idle hands are a devil’s workshop’. She was also a Godly woman who never failed to get down on her knees and pray, even when she got well up into her 80’s and 90’s. She still made a point to get out of her bed and onto her knees to pray. She was a pastor’s daughter, brought up from an early age to love God and shared that with her whole family.”

“Through the years, after I lost my Dad, God blessed me with a mentor in my wonderful father-in-law, James, ” Sheri says. “Then there are people like George Younce and Jake Hess and Vestal Goodman. They were incredible mentors because they were not only Godly influences in my life, they were also friends. It was wonderful to be able to share the stage with them. Rex Nelon, Bill and Gloria Gaither; there are so many I could go on naming. These people have been an incredible inspiration to Jeff and I.”

Sheri shares openly on stage about the challenge her family is going through as her mother, Polly, deals with Parkinsons’ Disease and related dementia. She knows there are a lot of people in their audience who are facing the same challenges with parents or spouses. Sheri says, “For anyone who is facing any kind of debilitating disease, cancer, or any kind of a degenerative illness, the outcome according to this world is negative. We can’t focus on that. We have to take each day as it comes, trusting God every step of the way. He ultimately is a miracle worker. We know that and we believe that.”

“If we get our miracle, we praise God for it,” continues Sheri. “If we don’t, we know that we are promised a better life in eternity. So we just have to trust God on those issues. As difficult as life is, He has promised us He would never put on us more than we can bear. We have to trust Him on that. We have to trust that the strength is going to come from somewhere.”

“A woman said to me the other day, ‘You know, I’ve thought about you a lot. And I’ve thought about why God would put you in this position with your mother. Both of you are such great communicators’. So I told her, ‘Maybe it is just to communicate. Maybe it is to communicate to the world that life goes on, the heart still keeps beating, and we still trust God for every breath that we take.’”

“The bottom line is, I’m just going to have to trust God that we are going to get through this. Hopefully we can communicate a message to the world that God is faithful in spite of our circumstances. Life is tough but God is faithful.”

God has been faithful to Sheri and her committed prayer life is a reflection of her commitment to Him. “We were always taught to pray. It was inherent in the way our parents lived their lives. That says a whole lot to kids. You live your life that way, rather than telling them they should live their lives that way.”

“I lost my Daddy to a sudden heart attack when I was twenty years old. Life came at me very fast. But I have found out that I am a better person for it. Would I change it? No, probably not. God did a work. It was His timing, not mine. I’ve found out in life that His circumstances always work out better than my plans. Look at Maura! I didn’t plan to have her and look what a gift! God is faithful.”

Sheri beams when she talks about her little girl who was a ‘surprise’. “She is just the greatest joy! I am so blessed to have her. Me and Jeff, we look at each other and wonder what if we hadn’t had her? Life is so complete now. Three years ago she wasn’t even a thought. I’m very grateful for God’s timing.”

It had been fifteen years since the Easters had a newborn in the house, and Sheri laughs at how her parenting skills have changed. “My other kids remind me of that daily. ‘You would have spanked me for that!’ But as you get older, you choose your battles. I will not let her be disrespectful or ugly to other people. But I don’t really care if she colors on something she shouldn’t have or that kind of thing. I’m much more chilled on some of the things I used to freak out about with my other kids.”

“Madison used to say, ‘Mom just goes OFF!’. So I don’t go ‘off’ as much as I used to, I don’t think. You just realize they are kids. Madison is the one who goes off these days,” Sheri laughs. “He says, ‘Mom, why don’t you get onto her?!’ and I say, ‘Because she’s a kid!’. That’s what kids do.”

Sheri Easter has had a life of challenges and joys, and her experiences have left this lady with a rich understanding of the treasures of life. She shares, “Last night, I went to bed at my normal time. I woke up about 4:00 this morning and started writing a song. It is a tune about things that will wait and things that won’t wait. For instance, holding your Mother’s hand one more time. That’s not something that can wait. So we have to take opportunities to do those things today.”

“I’d like to remind people that this is the only moment you have to enjoy and to embrace. However, your next breath is simply a gift from God. None of us are promised tomorrow.”

Sheri continues, “I keep telling my Mom, ‘I know the doctor has given you the title of degenerative disease, but every one of us is degenerating each day. We just have to trust God for every breath. We need to know that this is the moment to make things count and to say the things you need to say today.”

Sheri is truly a woman of substance and has a heart of compassion for those around her. As she pours her experience and life into her songs and performances, it is obvious that she is blessed with a gift of communication that is incomparable. The Lord has touched this lady’s life in many ways, and the Southern Gospel world is richer because of her.

James and Jeff Easter: Like Father, Like Son

Like Father, Like Son joins James Easter of the legendary Easter Brothers with his son Jeff, of the Dove Award winning duo Jeff & Sheri Easter for a special recorded event. The result is an album that tells the story of the timeless relationships between both an earthly father and son, all the while reminding us of our important relationship with our Heavenly Father and the gift He gave us in His Son.
Jeff tells us why this album and why now: “I’ve always said my dad is my favorite singer of all and now it is great that I get to honor his voice. He is 81 years old and he is still my inspiration. The things I’ve learned from him growing up still keeps me grounded. I love you, Daddy!”
Sheri Easter wrote the title track in honor of James and Jeff, and co-wrote other songs for the album. “I’m grateful that Jeff had the vision to do this project and for the help that Sheri has been to Jeff,” James shares.
He adds: “One of my favorite scriptures is Romans 8:38-39 where we’re promised that nothing can separate us from the love of God. I am thankful for this promise in my life and in the lives of my children.”
The father/son theme resonated with a couple of Jeff’s friends, who he invited to join him. Jonathan and Jordan Wilburn join on the first single, “Way Up On The Mountain,” and Gerald and Jason Crabb sing the Paul Overstreet/Don Schlitz song “I’ve Got No Rocks to Throw.”
Like Father, Like Son released on November 5 and is available atCrossroads, iTunes, and AmazonMP3.

Hatfield-McCoy Reunion Concert A Huge Success

June 14, 2013 (Nashville, TN) The first ever Hatfield-McCoy Gospel concert, hosted by Elliott McCoy and Three Bridges was a rounding success. The first of its kind, held in Belfry, KY, the event was greeted by all in the community with smiling faces.
The event was a huge success. Tim Lovelace was in rare form keeping the crowd in stitches and wowing them with his musical ability. Jeff & Sheri Easter did a fantastic job presenting their unique style of Gospel music. Three Bridges had a great time and ended the night with all of the artists on stage singing their exciting new single, Salvation Station, which brought the house down!
Elliott McCoy said, "This was a highlight for Three Bridges as well as for me personally. The place was crawling with McCoys of all ages and there were even a few Hatfields in attendance as well. We plan to make this an annual event and to even expand it to multiple days in the coming years."
People drove from hundreds of miles away to be a part of the event. Roger Wills, former corporate pilot for the O'Charley's corporation, was heard to say, "I am officially blown away by this whole event!"
Shannon Smith, Lead singer for Three Bridges mused “We breathed a sigh of relief when the concert was over and not one single shot had been fired.”
More Hatfields are expected to attend as the event becomes an Annual experience.

About Three Bridges
Three Bridges’ music is rooted in traditional ”southern gospel” and ”black gospel” music. This blended style has made Three Bridges an internationally-acclaimed Gospel group — one that is known for tight harmonies, a unique vocal style, an exciting and energy packed stage presence and, most importantly, for spreading the joy of the Good News of Christ. They have entertained and ministered to millions through their recordings, TV appearances and live shows — which is why Three Bridges has quickly become one of the most prominent Gospel groups in Christian music today.
Following the release of the critically-acclaimed debut album, Soldiers (2002), Three Bridges has wowed packed-out venues across the nation…from Gospel singings, business conventions, churches, political meetings, TV shows, charitable relief events – all the way to Air Force One! They have also appeared on five Bill Gaither video tapings and were special guests on a video for the United Nation.

Gold City News

Gold City email newsletter of February 11, 2013:

It’s been a great couple of weeks for Gold City. Since we last updated you, we’ve sang at TBN in Hendersonville, TN, Soddy Daisy, TN, McDonald TN, and took a trip to Palmetto, FL, where we sang once again for one of gospel music’s best promoters, Bill Bailey at his Winter Concert. We were with our friends, the Mark Trammell Quartet, The Freemans, Tony Gore, and Jeff and Sheri Easter. From there, we had two concerts each in GA and AL before heading the bus toward Jacksonville, FL to board a ship, which is where we will be for the next week on Templeton Tour’s Singing At Sea cruise to the Bahamas. Danny, Jerry, and Chuck will each have some of their family on the cruise, so this will make for a special time.

DID YOU CATCH US ON TV?

The concert at TBN mentioned above was a special tribute to songwriters that the Southern Gospel Music Guild produced for that television station. Gold City sang two songs that night–"Peter James and John" to honor songwriter Dianne Wilkinson and "I’m Not Giving Up" by Squire Parsons, another honoree of the evening. The show aired for the first time last Friday night, February 8th, but will be rebroadcast at other times. Check the station’s website, www.tbn.org for further broadcast information.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY

Gold City could not do what they do without the love and support of our wives, who are just as much a part of this ministry as we are. Without their sacrifices and their blessing for us to leave out each week, we could not pursue our calling, share our music and minister the gospel to a lost and dying world. We hope we show it more often than this one day, but especially on Valentine’s Day, we want to say to Barbara Riley, Holly Riley, Micki Pelfrey, Kelly Elliott, and Anjeanette Howe we love and appreciate you very much!

CHANGES

Most of you know by now, Dan Keeton announced his departure a few weeks ago to pursue his life-long dream of starting a non-profit agency for childhood victims of abuse. So, we’ve been sifting through all sorts of applications and audition mp3 files to locate a new tenor. We do not have any announcement to make at the present time, but those of you who seeing Gold City in the next couple of weeks will be seeing and hearing a new face and voice on stage. Robert Fulton is riding the bus for a while with us during our transition period. He’s got an amazing voice with a super high range. We’re not sure what fans are going to love more–his musical ability or his great personality. You decide while he’s visiting on the Gold City bus for a while as our tenor search winds down.

CHECK US OUT IN SINGING NEWS MAGAZINE

The February issue of Singing News has hit the newsstand. You can read a Valentine’s tribute to our wives on page 3. On page 46, our trip to Times Square Church in New York City is chronicled, complete with photos of this beautiful and historic place.

Gold City News and Thanksgiving Concert Announcement

From Gold City's e-newsletter of November 14, 2012

WEEKEND REWIND

Gold City had four great dates this past weekend. Thursday, we headed to Buhl, AL to sing for the great folks at the First Baptist Church. We sang to a full church of awesome gospel music fans there. We then headed to DeQuincy, LA where we sang at New Hope Baptist Church. Another great time was had with these wonderful folks. Saturday, we went to First Baptist Church of Livingston, TX. Now, you’d think with Gold City being the guests and all, they’d have treated our football team better than what they did. But despite Texas A & M beating our beloved Alabama, we were greeted warmly and helped the folks there raise money for the cancer organization Relay for Life. Sunday, we capped off a full weekend with an afternoon concert at the First Assembly of God in Malvern, AR. It’s because of promoters and pastors who go the extra mile and fans who come out and support this music we love that we can climb on the bus each week and share Jesus with the world by way of the best music ever. Thanks to you for helping us fulfill our calling!

MARK THE CALENDAR

Tomorrow night, we have a special concert coming up at Mill Town Music Hall in Bremen, GA. The day after Thanksgiving, we have a big annual event in Florence, AL with our friends, The Perrys, Jeff and Sheri Easter, and Karen Peck and New River. Speaking of the calendar, new dates are being added on a daily basis to our schedule. For a complete list, visit our webiste, www.goldcityqt.com or the website of our booking agency, www.bsaworld.com.

I GET DOWN

So many of you are letting us know through emails, Facebook, cards, letters, and in person that the song "I Get Down" is speaking to you. The power of prayer is the biggest weapon we have against Satan, the world, problems, fears, trials, ailments, whatever! The song has a fun, playful feel to it, but don’t let that fool you into thinking this is a fluffy, feel-good song only. There’s a lot of truth and spiritual depth to the fact that we have the key to victory simply through prayer. Thank you for requesting this song be played on your local radio station. It’s a great reminder for us all that we can ask anything in the will of the Father and He will hear!

COMING UP

Next week, we will be sharing some thoughts of Thanksgiving from the Gold City gang. We have a lot to be thankful for. Blessings are all around us. We hope you take time to count a few of yours.

GRAMMY®-Nominated Family Group Jeff & Sheri Easter Release New Music with Eyes Wide Open

Gospel Music Mainstays Hit the Airwaves to Support New Recording, Celebrate Award and Announce Upcoming 2nd Annual Paint Your Town Pink Campaign
NASHVILLE, Tenn.–September 21, 2012—Multiple award-winning and GRAMMY®-nominated Jeff & Sheri Easter, of Lincolnton, GA, have just released an all-new studio recording. Eyes Wide Open (Spring Hill Music Group) was produced by Jeff and Sheri Easter, veteran producer Greg Cole and Jeff & Sheri’s son, Madison Easter, who made his debut as a co-producer with the new release.

Eyes Wide Open incorporates the country-styled Gospel harmonies and hints of bluegrass for which the group has been known since its inception and celebrates their family heritage, both past and present. Sheri re-recorded a classic Mahalia Jackson ballad “Standing Here Wondering” that her mother, Polly Lewis Copsey, a member of the legendary Lewis Family, recorded during her lauded career. In turn, Sheri’s daughter Morgan paid homage to Sheri on the new, down-home recording with a re-make of Sheri’s noted ballad “I Wonder If He Ever Cries.”

Keeping things “all in the family,” Jeff performed the tune “I Won’t Have to Worry Anymore,” which is the first radio single from the new release, with a guest vocal from his father, James Easter, a member of the classic Gospel bluegrass group The Easter Brothers. James, who is now 80 years old, also joined the group for a special performance of the song on the main stage at the 2012 National Quartet Convention (NQC).

“Daddy played ‘I Won’t Have to Worry Anymore’ to Mama shortly before she left her tired, broken body here to live in her new one in heaven,” explained Jeff. “I wanted him to join me in recording this song for the release. It has always meant a great deal, but now this song has even a greater meaning to both of us.”

Other song titles on Eyes Wide Open include “Love Is,” “Anything But Happy,” “It Must Have Been You,” “Sitting on Top of the World,” “I’ll Take It,” “A Little Bit of Sunshine,” “A Good Old Gospel Song” and “There Is a Purpose.”

The family ties continue on the new recording as Sheri and Madison Easter co-wrote their first song together–“I Know How It Feels to Survive,” which commemorates Sheri’s victory over breast cancer, a topic about which Sheri remains passionate and active.

“There is nothing like living with eyes wide open,” described Sheri, who is now a four-year cancer survivor. “There is nothing like living with perspective and being able to always see the good in every moment of life. I am thankful that I had a wonderful support system of my family and all our wonderful friends throughout the country and the world. I know all our fans can help make a difference in the lives of others who are facing breast cancer.”

Those fans will have a chance to do just that with Jeff & Sheri’s upcoming 2nd Annual Paint Your Town Pink Campaign. For all of their concerts during the month of October, in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they are asking everyone to wear pink to create awareness for breast cancer. The group will also be wearing pink nightly, and a portion of their concerts will honor cancer survivors and recognize local cancer care clubs in efforts to raise funds for these organizations.

Eyes Wide Open, distributed exclusively by EMI CMG Distribution, is available now at retail stores and online stores everywhere. The release comes on the heels of Sheri being honored by fans as the 2012 Alto Singer of the Year at last week’s NQC Awards in Louisville, Ky.

The group premiered songs from the new recording recently on “The Grand Ole Opry,” at the National Quartet Convention, during a LIVE listening party on air at WGUS in Augusta, Ga. and also through an in-depth interview on the Solid Gospel Radio Network.

Grammy Nominees Jeff & Sheri Easter to appear on the Grand Ole Opry

Two-time GRAMMY-nominated and six-time Dove Award-winning artists Jeff and Sheri Easter are scheduled to appear on the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday, August 4 for two shows at 7 and 9:30 p.m.

These gospel music family group mainstays will be premiering songs from their upcoming release Eyes Wide Open (Spring Hill Music) which will hit streets on September 18. They will be performing with other artists, including Carrie Underwood, Little Jimmy Dickens, Jeannie Seely, Jim Ed Brown, Jean Shepherd, Bill Anderson and many others.

“Jeff and I feel so at home at the Opry,” states Sheri. “We both grew up in families of bluegrass gospel artists, so we made a lot of longtime friends over the years, many of whom are part of the Opry family. It always feels like coming back home when we’re there.”

Jeff adds, “Our music has always been country; our lyrics have always been gospel; and we love to sing love songs to each other; so stylistically, we fit in well with not only the Opry artists, but also the Opry fans.”
