Gold City News

Gold City email newsletter of February 11, 2013:

It’s been a great couple of weeks for Gold City. Since we last updated you, we’ve sang at TBN in Hendersonville, TN, Soddy Daisy, TN, McDonald TN, and took a trip to Palmetto, FL, where we sang once again for one of gospel music’s best promoters, Bill Bailey at his Winter Concert. We were with our friends, the Mark Trammell Quartet, The Freemans, Tony Gore, and Jeff and Sheri Easter. From there, we had two concerts each in GA and AL before heading the bus toward Jacksonville, FL to board a ship, which is where we will be for the next week on Templeton Tour’s Singing At Sea cruise to the Bahamas. Danny, Jerry, and Chuck will each have some of their family on the cruise, so this will make for a special time.

DID YOU CATCH US ON TV?

The concert at TBN mentioned above was a special tribute to songwriters that the Southern Gospel Music Guild produced for that television station. Gold City sang two songs that night–"Peter James and John" to honor songwriter Dianne Wilkinson and "I’m Not Giving Up" by Squire Parsons, another honoree of the evening. The show aired for the first time last Friday night, February 8th, but will be rebroadcast at other times. Check the station’s website, www.tbn.org for further broadcast information.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY

Gold City could not do what they do without the love and support of our wives, who are just as much a part of this ministry as we are. Without their sacrifices and their blessing for us to leave out each week, we could not pursue our calling, share our music and minister the gospel to a lost and dying world. We hope we show it more often than this one day, but especially on Valentine’s Day, we want to say to Barbara Riley, Holly Riley, Micki Pelfrey, Kelly Elliott, and Anjeanette Howe we love and appreciate you very much!

CHANGES

Most of you know by now, Dan Keeton announced his departure a few weeks ago to pursue his life-long dream of starting a non-profit agency for childhood victims of abuse. So, we’ve been sifting through all sorts of applications and audition mp3 files to locate a new tenor. We do not have any announcement to make at the present time, but those of you who seeing Gold City in the next couple of weeks will be seeing and hearing a new face and voice on stage. Robert Fulton is riding the bus for a while with us during our transition period. He’s got an amazing voice with a super high range. We’re not sure what fans are going to love more–his musical ability or his great personality. You decide while he’s visiting on the Gold City bus for a while as our tenor search winds down.

CHECK US OUT IN SINGING NEWS MAGAZINE

The February issue of Singing News has hit the newsstand. You can read a Valentine’s tribute to our wives on page 3. On page 46, our trip to Times Square Church in New York City is chronicled, complete with photos of this beautiful and historic place.

DANNY’S FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations." -Chuck Swindoll

From Gold City's Newsletter of October 31, 2012:

WEEKEND REWIND

Gold City was all over the map this weekend. We started out in Strasburg, VA on Thursday, then made our way to Port Crane, NY. Saturday we were in Cranberry, PA, when Hurricane Sandy started gaining momentum. Guess you could say we sang up a storm, because the rain and wind seemed to follow us right over to Shelby, OH where we finished out the weekend. Great times with great people, singing the greatest music in the world. Not a bad combination at all! And we were glad to have Daniel Riley back on the road with us this weekend after a few weeks off for some sinus surgery. He’s back and sounding great!

THE WEEK AHEAD

It’s a very important time in our nation. On November 6th, we will be electing many political candidates into office, including the head of our nation for the next four years. The privilege to vote is an honor that we should not take lightly or for granted. Many countries around the world do not have the right to let their voice be heard. Thousands of men and women have died defending the freedoms and rights we have in the United States. This is a call to action– pray for wisdom at the voting poll, and exercise your right to vote!

I GET DOWN

Thank you for calling in to your local radio station and requesting our latest single, "I Get Down." We think it is a message that prayer equals hope! So many of you let us know each week in concert that you are fighting battles, and many more of you have those unspoken burdens that are so private, you can’t even share them. But we know that down on our knees is the place to take care of it all. So, keep requesting and listening and knowing that we are lifted up when we get down on our knees.

STORY ALERT

Did you know our Tim Riley is featured in the November issue of Singing News magazine? In honor of Veteran’s Day, Tim was featured along with Les Beasley (retired member of the Florida Boys) and Ray Dean Reese (Kingsmen). These three men served our nation in the Armed Forces. Tim shared about his days in Vietnam. There’s even an old photo of his days with the Dixie Echoes. A must-read!!

ANNUAL EVENT ALERT

Gold City will be one of the featured artists on Friday, November 23rd in Florence, AL at the Florence Coliseum. It’s Alabama’s oldest and largest Thanksgiving Sing. Our friends, The Perrys, Jeff and Sheri Easter, and Karen Peck and New River will be joining us for this fantastic evening. For more information, go to www.billbaileyconcerts.com.

DANNY’S FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"The greatest enemy to human souls is the self-righteous spirit which makes men look to themselves for salvation." -Charles Spurgeon

AS ALWAYS

Gold City wants to thank each of you who take time to come out and see us. We thank you for always supporting our ministry in such an overwhelming way. Have a great week!

Mark209 Shares the Stage with Country Music Icon Ronnie Milsap

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (March 5, 2012) – Gospel music mainstays Mark209 had the distinct privilege of performing onstage with Country music icon Ronnie Milsap at a recent concert event.

At Ronnie Milsap’s request, Mark209 accompanied The Milsap Show to Palmetto, Florida to perform as a part of Bill Bailey’s Winter Gospel Music Convention, the largest winter gospel music festival in the United States.

Mark209 opened for The Milsap Show, and Ronnie asked the quartet to join him on stage to sing some selections, which included “Peace In The Valley” from his gospel CD, Then Sings My Soul.

Ronnie said from stage, “If you’ve got such a quality quartet as Mark209, you just have to do an Elvis song just like he did it.”

The group then backed him on Elvis’ “Love Me.” Also on the evening’s program in Palmetto, Florida were Karen Peck & New River, the Collingsworth Family, and Wilburn & Wilburn.

Dominic Korzecki was in attendance and posted on Ronnie Milsap’s Facebook page: “These guys [Mark209] have to be one of the best Southern Gospel groups I've heard since The Stamps.”

Jym Howe of Mark209 states, “We have had people ask us what it is like to sing with Ronnie Milsap and to be honest, Kenny Rogers said it best, ‘There is no greater thrill, and at the same time no greater fear, than singing with Ronnie Milsap. He is, quite simply, as good as he has to be to be better than the person he is singing with.’ It is an honor to share Ronnie’s stage and a thrill to sing with him. Each time we have performed with him, his band and crew has actually treated us like we were somebody.”

Seven-time Grammy Award winner, Ronnie Milsap has had 40 #1 songs. He has received every CMA Award available to a male Country artist, including the industry’s highest honor, the coveted Entertainer of the Year Award. From the Academy of Country Music, he has received the Instrumentalist of the Year and Pioneer Award and Billboard Magazine awarded him “Artist of the Year.” Ronnie played and sang on two albums with Elvis Presley, opened for James Brown in the 60s, and recorded duets with Barry Manilow, Patty Labelle, Kenny Rogers, and Trace Adkins. Ronnie Milsap is long overdue for induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

2012 has started with a bang for the popular quartet. In addition to doing select dates with Ronnie Milsap, Mark209 has already been scheduled for several television appearances and large festivals. On March 11, 2012, the quartet will be able to be seen LIVE online via a pay-per-view internet concert sponsored by the American Society of Gospel Music.

The group recently landed two Absolutely Gospel Music Award nominations. The group landed nods in the Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Fan Favorite Artist of the Year categories. The group also scored a nomination for Favorite New Excelling Artist in the 2012 SGM FanFair Awards.

The brand new Mark209 website was recently launched. You can visit them online at www.mark209.com.

You can also find the group on Facebook by visiting www.facebook.com/mark209.

About Mark209
Mark209 is one of the most exciting Gospel quartets touring the country today. The intricate harmonies, detailed arrangements, energy, and versatility place this group in a league of its own. In a time when mediocrity is widely accepted, this group has raised the bar and exceeds everyone's expectations. The group consists of Jym Howe, Nathaniel Justice, Joe Armstrong, and Jimmy Reno.
