Winds Of Change For The Sisters

“Sometimes in the winds of change we find our true direction.”
Since 1975, we’ve had the awesome privilege and opportunity to travel together with our family ministry spreading the message of the gospel through song. While our roots will continue to be grounded in Southern Gospel music, God has been preparing our hearts, minds and ministry for a dramatic shift none of us were expecting.
We are excited to announce our new upcoming project “Atmosphere” scheduled to release later this summer. We will be taking a sabbatical from touring to focus our time and efforts on this new endeavor and look forward to sharing this new record with you all!
Stay tuned for more updates soon!

Nick Offerman and Christopher McDonald, and Grammy Award-Winning Rapper LeCrae, Join Cast of Rising Stars in Edgy Satire . . . In Theaters Sept. 26

AUSTIN, Texas — June 10, 2014 — This is not your father’s “Christian” film . . . or anyone’s for that matter.

Comedy, satire, heist . . . Riot Studios—creators of the surprise hit documentary BEWARE OF CHRISTIANS—debuts its first feature film, BELIEVE ME, in theaters and on demand on Sept. 26. Irreverent, funny and insightful, BELIEVE ME poses a simple question: “Why believe someone just because he’s speaking on a stage?”

“Four college friends see people believe any voice that shouts loud enough, and they use it for their own gain by starting a fake charity,” said Director Will Bakke. “BELIEVE ME looks at the power of platforms, particularly among today’s young Christians.”

Featuring rising stars Alex Russell—who shot to fame in CHRONICLE—and Zach Knighton (Happy Endings), BELIEVE ME also features Johanna Braddy (EASY A), Miles Fisher (FINAL DESTINATION 5), Sinqua Walls (Teen Wolf) and Max Adler (Glee), with Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) as Sean and Christopher McDonald (Boardwalk Empire) as Ken. Grammy Award-winning rapper LeCrae makes his feature debut in the film.

In BELIEVE ME, Sam Atwell (Russell) stands on stage as thousands of fans go wild. Smart, charismatic, handsome, he moves them with his message, and when he calls for donations to his charity, the money pours in.

Only thing is, Sam doesn’t believe a word he’s saying.

Just months earlier, Sam was a typical college senior focused on keg stands, hookups and graduation. But when a surprise tuition bill threatens his dream of law school and leaves him thousands of dollars in the hole, he’s forced to think outside the box. He convinces his three roommates they can make a killing on the gullible church crowd and the guys start a sham charity, campaigning across the country, raising funds for a cause as fake as their message.

For Sam, embezzlement is easy compared to getting attention from the only person he cares about. When Callie, the tour manager and Sam’s love interest, finally discovers the guys’ ruse, it’s Sam's moment of truth.

On the final night of the tour, before a packed auditorium and alone in the spotlight, Sam Atwell has to decide what he really believes.

“BELIEVE ME is a parody on religious scandals,” co-producer and co-writer Michael B. Allen said. “It holds up a mirror for viewers to see themselves and their assumptions from a new perspective.”

BELIEVE ME is produced by Alex Carroll and co-produced by Sandhya Shardanand, Gary Cogill, Richard Toussaint and Steve Markham. John Rutland is director of photography with casting by J.C. Cantu.

A Riot Studios Production in association with Lascaux Films, BELIEVE ME is distributed by Headline Features and Gravitas Ventures. The film releases in theaters and on demand Sept. 26, 2014.

Where is the U.S. Church Headed? Watch the Bookstores--
And this June's Natl. Meeting of Christian Bookstores

ATLANTA – June 9 – Is church in the US still growing by ABCs--attendance, buildings, cash? The answer is no. Digitized and relationally driven, the Millennial generation is changing how and where church happens, and increasingly it’s not in a church building.

Enter one of the activist Christian bookstores--or into the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS), the annual meeting of Christian booksellers, June 22-25 in Atlanta--and you pick up that the store experience, is increasingly, well, “churchy.”

“For the same things their parents went to church to find, Millennials are going to Christian bookstores,” Curtis Riskey, President of The Association for Christian Retail (CBA) said. “Think fellowship, guidance, talks, events, mission trips . . . Retail can never replace church, of course, but increasingly stores are an entire experience.”

This year’s ICRS will host not one but three events to spotlight the changing church:

1) Keynote: Church & Retail. In the ICRS keynote address, eclectic author Thom Schultz is known for his incisive comparisons of churchgoing and retail trends. Founder of Group Publishing and Lifetree Café, Schultz’s blog topics range from why congregations have stopped singing to standard responses to church decline.

2) General session: Where US Christianity is headed. The ICRS general session includes Ravi Zacharias, bestselling author/scholar/speaker and observer; legendary author/asker Philip Yancey; radio gadfly Ryan Dobson; and will be moderated by Craig Cable of Lifetree Café. All weigh in on where Christianity is headed.

3) Wednesday panel: Especially for church leaders, “Capturing the Millennial Mind,” features Roxanne Stone (Barna Group VP, Relevant magazine editorial director, she’s covered and researched the Millennials); Palmer Chinchen (author of the upcoming “The Barefoot Tribe” manifesto is organizing a Millennials service-and-expertise network); Brad Lomenick (president of Catalyst, the premiere, dynamic leadership conference for young church leaders); and Dennis Moles (the popular RBC Ministries bible teacher who researches Millennials).

At the crossroads of a culture in flux and the changing church, CBA stores are the conversation, Riskey said. “As technology and new generations upend old practices, the stores able to survive and thrive extend customer values,” he said. “They go beyond retail to community involvement--supporting local services and ministries--and examples are out there.”

Riskey summed it up. “Technology will never replace human connection.”

To talk to specific store owners about the blurring lines between church and the Christian bookstore experience, here are four of many examples:

Family Christian Stores in Grand Rapids MI
Keith Watkins
Family’s “Goodgoers” program invites customers on mission trips through the store’s James Fund, a comprehensive outreach to orphans and widows.

Christian Supply in Spartanburg SC
Chuck Wallington
Chuck sponsors local festivals for youth and music pastors, in-store author panels and other events to rally and support community.

The Parable Store in San Luis Obispo CA
Steve Potratz
The Parable Store engages the community with pastor events, lifestyle marketing and merchandising and links to church and community ministry.

Baker Book House, Grand Rapids, MI
Sue Smith
Since Sue changed her store’s strategy and hours, not only do college students regularly meet there, the store is more woven into the community fabric.

About CBA
CBA is the leading association for the providers of Christian products to reach all people. We supply vital connections, information, education and encouragement to Christian product providers, who diligently distribute Bibles, Christian books, curriculum, apparel, music, videos, gifts, greeting cards, children’s resources and other materials to communities worldwide.

Gold City Releases Highly Anticipated Hymn Treasury

Pictured (L-R): Chip Pullen, Robert Fulton, Danny Riley (Gold City members), Gordon Mote (Co-producer), Ken Harding (New Haven Records, President) and Pete Greene (studio engineer) in the studio.

Hymn Revival Debuts Early Fall

Franklin, TN- June 25, 2014 - New Haven Records is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of Hymn Revival, Gold City’s first new hymn project since their immensely popular 1999 release, “Amazing Grace: A Hymn Collection.”

Hymn Revival follows Somebody’s Coming, Gold City’s best-selling and highest charting album in years; and contains beloved hymns along with two new classics, “In Christ Alone” and “The Power of the Cross,” which are poised to pass the test of time. The record also contains older, more traditional hymns such as “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “I Need Thee Every Hour.”

Co-produced by label-mate and Academy of Country Music Award-winning musician Gordon Mote, Hymn Revival is exactly that: a treasury of classic and current hymns refreshed and re-envisioned by the matchless voices of America’s premiere quartet, Gold City.

Mote reflects, “I’m from Gadsden, Alabama, Gold City’s home town. I grew up admiring them and now I have the incredible honor of co-producing them. You can really feel their energy and personality coming through as they sing these classic songs of the church.”

“I am excited about this project because many of the hymns that I grew up singing have all but disappeared,” says Danny Riley, Gold City’s lead singer. “I love a lot of the new songs, but the old songs of the church have ministered to me through the years and have a special place in my heart. We have also included some modern hymns that I know will become standards in the church.”

Ken Harding, President of New Haven Records concludes, “Matching these timeless hymns with the award-winning vocals of Gold City created an album for the ages. We can’t wait for the world to hear these hymns in a fresh, revived way.”

Hymn Revival releases on New Haven Records early this fall and will be available wherever great gospel music is sold and on iTunes.

Balsam Range: New Album Available Today

FIVE is the latest project from IBMA Album of the Year winning band
Nashville, TN --- IBMA Album of the Year winner, Balsam Range, returns with the band’s appropriately-titled fifth album. Five is set for release today, June 17th.

Five exemplifies Balsam Range as one of the most remarkable bands in Acoustic music. If the goal was to elevate the level of songs, performance, production value, and excitement, then Five surely marks the successful achievement of that goal.

From deep in the Appalachians where the Great Smoky Mountains meet the Blue Ridge come the gifted men of Balsam Range, creatively blending Bluegrass, Folk, Gospel and Jazz into a new American acoustic music experience. Mountain Home Recording artists founded in 2007, Balsam Range is five friends with unique experiences and backgrounds blending together effortlessly to form their distinctive sound. Since bursting onto the scene, Balsam Range has made a definite mark in the Bluegrass and Acoustic music world.

The band's 2010 release TRAINS I MISSED brought in a #1 hit and Bluegrass Song of the Year award for its title track. PAPERTOWN (2012) built on that momentum with five consecutive months as the #1 album on Bluegrass radio, and won the 2013 IBMA Album of the Year award.

In the wake of PAPERTOWN’S success, expectations have been high.

"Papertown was received so well that we were a little anxious about what we could do next," said Tim Surrett, vocalist and bass player for the band. "How do we follow an Album of the Year? We finally just went in there and made the best record we could and had some fun."

The band has a consistent knack for conveying emotion with power. The result is a heartfelt delivery of tributes to working class heroes, an original Gospel a cappella song, a driving instrumental, and even a John Denver classic. The group draws from diverse influences and original sources while giving each track the Balsam Range treatment.

The band has also just announced its revamped fan benefit site, which offers free music, discounts and exclusive merchandise to its growing population of dedicated fans. Information on Balsam Nation is available through the band web site. Additionally, Balsam Range has posted a fun video on the making of the tune, “Moon Over Memphis.”

Wilburn & Wilburn Participate In Benefit Gospel Concert For Tornado Victims

GADSDEN, AL (June 4, 2014) Father and son Gospel duo Jonathan and Jordan Wilburn spoke life into Mississippi’s tornado victims in a Gospel music concert on Saturday, May 31st. Several Gospel musicians came together and gave back to the community by offering their condolences through song.

Severe damage was witnessed in late April to parts of northeastern Mississippi. By way of extreme storms, tornadoes wreaked havoc and caused death and destruction. Heartbreak and grief blanketed the area like a dark cloud.

Gospel music is known for it’s ability to warm the souls of many. Through its touching lyrics and inspiring melodies, Gospel music can heal. Gospel musicians wanted to bring light to Tupelo, MS and surrounding areas by putting on a benefit concert as a memorial and fundraiser, reaching out to tornado victims and their families. Wilburn & Wilburn were one of the musicians highlighted at the concert.

“We wanted to bring light to the victims and families and all of those who were affected by the recent tragic events. Our hope was that people would come and listen to music and be blessed,” Jordan Wilburn said.

This isn’t the first time that Wilburn & Wilburn has brought aid to tornado victims through their talents. In 2011, when tornadoes devastated the state of Alabama, their home state, Wilburn & Wilburn used their gift of music to help bring healing and peace to a grief-stricken community.

“We saw the destruction that the tornadoes caused in Alabama, and because of that experience, we wanted to help in any way that we could to support Mississippi in their time of need,” Jonathan Wilburn said.

Although the concert was free and open to the public, donations were accepted and the money raised went to the CREATE Foundation for the Northeast Mississippi Tornado Relief Fund.

About Wilburn & Wilburn
Wilburn & Wilburn, the Father – Son team of Jonathan and Jordan Wilburn are continuing the tradition for three generations. Jonathan spent the first 16 years of his Southern Gospel Music career singing with his family, the Wilburns, one of Gospel Music’s most beloved and respected families. In 1996 Jonathan would move to Gadsden, Alabama where he would anchor the lead position with Gold City for the next 12 years.
Adding a dimension to this group is Jonathan's son Jordan. Feeling his call to sing Gospel music at a young age, it is a great match of Father and Son to create a great sound and an excitement that enhances any worship service.

Dear friend,

I hope this finds you having a great day!

I want to let you know about an opportunity our family has to serve on a short term missions trip this summer. My wife and I, my oldest daughter, Brette, her boyfriend, Derek, and my youngest daughter, Ellie, are planning to go to Port au Prince, Haiti from June 28th - July 4th.

We will be serving in an orphanage in the city and helping to conduct some VBS like events for children there as well as seeking to meet their physical and emotional needs. Also, we are each taking a bag of clothes, gifts, and supplies to leave with a local pastor for distribution to those in greatest need.

While the 7.0 earthquake of 2010 has long since left our minds in the US, Haiti continues to struggle to recover and rebuild from the devastation left in it’s wake. Basic necessities are in short supply, infrastructure is in disrepair and poverty is rampant. Haiti and it’s neighbor, the Dominican Republic, are said to be the poorest places in the western hemisphere.

The trip cost is $1950.00 per person. If you would like to have a part in helping to send us you can make a tax-deductible contribution to Billy Blackwood Ministries, Inc., a 501c3 non profit corporation in the state of Tennessee, for which you will receive a tax deduction at the beginning of 2015. Our mailing address is P O Box 777, Goodlettsville, TN 37070.

If you cannot help to send us we would ask that you pray for us as we go. Brette accompanied me on a mission trip to Tecate, Mexico when she was seven, and my wife and I have both been to Jamaica. But this will be a first time experience for both Ellie & Derek. Those of you who have been on trips like this know the impact of them. I am expecting God to use this trip to change the course of our lives for the rest of our life here on earth.

Thank you so much for your prayer and financial support. We will be sending a report with pictures via email upon our return. May God bless you richly as you serve Him.
