LeFevre Quartet Reclaims Name, Signs with Beckie Simmons Agency

There is much to be said about the heritage of a name. When thinking of Southern Gospel Music, some of the first family names that come to mind are The Speer Family, The Goodmans, The Nelons and The LeFevres, all legendary in our Industry.
Mike LeFevre, nephew of Eva Mae LeFevre, has been involved in Southern Gospel Music since his days with the legendary Gold City. In 2005, Mike LeFevre, along with five other incredibly talented young men, brought forth a new quartet sound called The LeFevre Quaret. Just one year after forming The LeFevre Quartet, fans voted them the 2006 Horizon Group of the Year at the Singing News Fan Awards. In 2007, they were voted “Breakthrough Artist Of The Year” at the SGN Awards. Their hit song, “Big Mighty God” was nominated for Southern Gospel Song of The Year at the 2009 Dove Awards.
The question has been asked, “So why would a group who has had such an impact on the Gospel Music scene with such wide acceptance change their name?” The answer: With the passing of Eva Mae LeFevre, members of the LeFevre family expressed their desire to retire their legendary name in Gospel Music, so The LeFevre Quartet quietly became Priority.
Since signing with BSA, Beckie Simmons, along with encouragement from their peers, began the process of reconsidering going back to their original family name. Maurice LeFevre addresses the issue with his statement, “I didn’t realize until Mom’s passing last May how quickly new generations forget, as some of my own children came to me and said they had no idea that their grandparents had accomplished so much in life. Mylon and I are absolutely and completely supportive of Mike and his group and the work they are doing for our Lord and Savior. Our initial reservations concerned quality; however, after hearing the group we could not be more in tune. What a great sound!” Thus, the decision was confirmed to continue the legacy of the Le Fevre name. Priority is now being retired and The LeFevre Quartet reborn.
BSA/Beckie Simmons Agency has entered into an exclusive booking agreement with The LeFevre Quartet. Beckie Simmons adds, “We are excited about adding The LeFevre Quartet to the BSA family! The sound of this group is superb plus having a live band represents some of the best in Southern Gospel Music. I am so happy to be part of their future and keeping the LeFevre heritage alive.”
The Beckie Simmons Agency exclusively handles LeFevre Quartet’s appearance dates. For more information on scheduling The LeFevre Quartet please contact BSA at 615.595.7500 or http://www.bsaworld.com/. For more information on LeFevre please visist http://www.thelefevrequartet.com/.

Karen Peck and New River Welcome Jeff Hawes

Dahlonega, GA - Karen Peck Gooch, of Karen Peck & New River, has announced the addition of Jeff Hawes to the group's vocal line-up. "Susan and I are very excited to have Jeff as part of our group," says Karen. "Jeff is an anointed singer and we feel that God has great plans for this young man. We hope everyone who attends our concerts will take the time to meet Jeff." Jeff Hawes is a native of Flat Rock, Alabama. He has previously been teaching English for the Jackson County School District, most recently teaching 12th grade English at Pisgah High School. Jeff began singing on stage around the age of five years old and has always wanted to touch people's lives through song, but it was after his tenure at Troy University that Jeff's "gospel dream" became a reality. In 2008, Jeff auditioned with hundreds of hopeful gospel singers for a chance to be on the Gospel Music Channel's hit reality show Gospel Dream. Jeff was one of three chosen to represent Atlanta when the show was taped in Nashville. The show aired in June 2008, and after making it through two extremely tough rounds of competition, Jeff made the top 12 in the nation. After his time on Gospel Dream, Jeff went on to compete in Orlando, Fla., for the AMTC (Actors, Models, and Talent) Competition in which Jeff was chosen for their highly esteemed Talent Show. Jeff performed in front of top producers and agents from across the world. While at the competition, Jeff was asked to travel with Stained Glass Marriage Ministries from Birmingham, Ala., in which he played keyboard and led worship for their Praise and Worship Team. Jeff also was hand chosen by Jeremi Richardson of the contemporary group Avalon to sing with the Cleveland Carolers during the 2008 Christmas season. In March of 2009, Jeff competed in the annual Aaron Wilburn Talent Search at Hoofers Gospel Barn in LaGrange, Ga., where Jeff won 1st place in the Contemporary Christian Division. Wilburn was a huge supporter of Hawes and allowed him to open for one of his shows in Alabama. As a result of winning in LaGrange, Jeff advanced to the National Quartet Convention Talent Search in Louisville, Kentucky where he placed in the Top 10. Jeff has a true desire to minister to the lost. "My goal is to magnify the name of Jesus and give all honor, praise and glory to His name," says Jeff. "I'm thrilled to even be singing on the same stage with Karen Peck & New River, and I'm greatly humbled and excited to be their newest addition. I cannot thank Karen and Susan enough for having the confidence in me and the faith in God to give me this chance of a lifetime. "Throughout the audition process, I've stuck by my favorite scripture of Proverbs 3:6: 'In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.'"

Singing News Fan Awards move to SGM A

The Southern Gospel Music industry’s premier awards show, the Singing News Fan Awards, is moving to a new home beginning in 2010.
“Dollywood, the home of the Southern Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame and Museum, has opened its doors to the 2010 edition of the Fan Awards,” says Singing News Editor Danny Jones.
“Additionally, the SGMA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be incorporated into the Singing News Fan Awards presentation to present a new program that will not only honor the artists that Singing News subscribers have chosen as their favorites, but to acknowledge the contributions of Southern Gospel Music pioneers and those who have greatly influenced our industry.”
The first Fan Awards were presented in 1970 at the “International Gospel Song Festival,” an event promoted by Singing News founding publisher, the late J.G. Whitfield. “When Mr. Whitfield acquired the National Quartet Convention a few years later,” Singing News Editor-In-Chief Jerry Kirksey recalls, “the Fan Awards moved to the NQC stage and remained there through 2009.”
“The National Quartet Convention has been gracious in sharing their time and facilities with us for four decades,” says Jones. “We will continue to support that grand tradition of Southern Gospel music even as we look forward to our move. We will continue to have one of the largest booths at NQC as well as expanded editorial coverage, pre and post convention.”
The 2010 Singing News Fan Awards and the 2010 SGMA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2010, in the D.P. Celebrity Theatre at Dollywood.
The new program will be the opening feature each year for Dollywood’s National Southern Gospel Music & Harvest Celebration with the premiere presentation followed by an entire month of Southern Gospel artists performing throughout Dollywood. The music presented is quite special to someone who is very familiar with Dollywood.
“Southern Gospel music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,” Dolly Parton says. “I am proud Singing News chose Dollywood as the home of their Fan Awards in conjunction with the SGMA’s Induction Ceremony. The park is a unique place where we not only focus the whole month of October on Southern Gospel music but our guests can also enjoy Southern Gospel singing almost every day throughout the year.”
SGMA Executive Director Charlie Waller, who was instrumental in bringing this new event to life, says, “The SGMA Executive Board unanimously voted in favor of the merger of the Fan Awards and Induction Ceremony, and I look forward to working with everyone involved to produce a first class event centrally located in the heartland of Southern Gospel music fans.
“On behalf of the SGMA, I would like to thank Barbara Joines, Dollywood’s Vice President and General Manager, as well as the entire Dollywood staff, for their commitment to this event and for housing the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum.”
Tickets for the event will go on sale March 1, 2010. Additional information will be announced soon.

Mark Trammell Quartet

Hendersonville, TN (January 12, 2010) – George Younce said it best, “Mark Trammell is a ‘quartet man,’ period.” After two years of soul searching as the craft of the traditional gospel quartet became scarce, Mark Trammell is pursuing his life-long dream of having his own traditional male gospel quartet.
“All I'm really doing is returning to my roots,” stated Mark. “I was trained by some of the greatest men to ever take a quartet to the stage and I'm very excited about MTQ endeavoring to raise the bar when it comes our music and being able to minister to, as well as entertain our friends and fans."
Mark has always been about singing and not gimmicks. He reminds us that Glen Payne and George Younce taught him that at the end of the day if you want to be successful in stirring the hearts of the people, you MUST sing TO their hearts, and not just their heads.
Mark admits that there was a motive behind his decision to announce the change before knowing who the bass singer was going to be. While he openly states that this was not necessarily a “religious” awakening, he did want the right man for the position. In making the announcement the way he did, the prospects came to him, instead of him going on a search to find the right man.
The right man is Pat Barker. Pat has developed a reputation as one of today’s smoothest bass singers. Pat will be joining Mark Trammell, Dustin Sweatman and Joel Wood at the beginning of February 2010.
The quartet will be in the studio soon working on a summer release from Daywind Records.
Daywind Records is based in Hendersonville, TN, and is distributed worldwide through New Day Christian Distributors. In addition to the Mark Trammell Quartet, Daywind is home to such great artists as Greater Vision, the Perrys, and Legacy Five, among others. Shaye Smith Returns to the Chuck Wagon Gang

PIGEON FORGE, TN (Press Release) - The Chuck Wagon Gang is pleased to announce that Shaye Smith, the grand-daughter of the late Anna Carter Gordon Davis, the original alto singer for the Chuck Wagon Gang, will be returning full time to sing alto once again with the group. Shaye first came to the Gang in 1993 as the soprano singer for the group, which was comprised of Roy Carter, Eddie Carter, and their sister, Ruth Ellen Carter Yates. Some ten years ago she became the alto singer for the group, and two years ago she left the group to be with her young boys and attend to some family matters.
“Truly, I’ve missed singing, the many fans and friends I’ve met along the way, and I have missed continuing the heritage and legacy that my family started over seventy-four years ago,” stated Shaye from her home in Hertford, NC. “I knew I would be back with the group, I just did not know when and how the circumstances would unveil for my return. I am just so happy to be returning!”
“Shaye’s return is a wonderful blessing to begin the New Year,” said Dave Emery, manager, emcee, and guitarist for the group. “I’ve looked forward to this time ever since she left, but I never thought it would be this soon. Favorable circumstances just recently developed to make this possible. With the Diamond 75th Anniversary of The Chuck Wagon Gang just a year away, the timing could not be any better for the co-owner of the group to return! We’re already working on a documentary for our 75th anniversary, and her input as a family member is essential.”
While Shaye has been away, the alto position has been held by two of the finest singers to ever work with The Chuck Wagon Gang. In recent times, Kelly Jennings, of Kingsport, TN has been the alto singer. Prior to Kelly, Penny Greene, from Morristown, TN sang for a little over two years. "Penny and Kelly have done a great job and have maintained a great rapport with the fans. We wish them well in their future endeavors,” stated Dave Emery.
Shaye’s first appearance back with the group will be on Thursday, January 14th in Murfreesboro, TN at Fair Havens Independent Baptist Church at 7:00 PM.
The Chuck Wagon Gang, now in their 74th year as an organized group, currently operates out of Pigeon Forge, TN, with a Nashville office operated by Harold Timmons. In addition to Shaye, the current members are Dave Emery, Julie Hudson, Stan Hill, and Joe Rotton. In 1936, the original Chuck Wagon Gang landed a major recording contract. They were associated with Columbia Records (now Sony Music) for 39 years, during which time the recorded over 400 songs, and sold nearly 40 million records for the label. Their 1948 recording of “I’ll Fly Away” became a certified million selling single. Currently recording for Song Garden Music group, the group’s current single, "Singing As I Go" from their release “Keep Travelin’ On” is currently being featured on radio throughout the country.

Storms and Striving

Stress. Seems like all of us have lives filled with stress these days and I was reflecting on this with friends yesterday. The theory is that we have a choice about everything and therefore we should have some control over our stress. I guess that is possible, but if you are like me, you know you don't control your boss at work...it's the other way around. So that means career stress is somewhwat unavoidable.
Personal stress often comes from unexpected events that rain down on your or your loved ones and although you have a choice about how you react to it, you usually don't have a choice about an event such as illness or accident. It would be nice if you could control the timing, or the type of event, or the severity, but usually that is out of your control.
So we all learn to deal with stress either positively or negatively in our own unique ways. There are lots of tools available to help with that, but if you are like me, those tools don't always come to your mind when stress attacks.
There is another kind of stress that comes from striving. Often we decide we want something in our lives that seems so right, and we pray about it, and since God doesn't smash that idea with spiritual lightning, well then it must be right...so we strive after that desire or dream. Because is seems so right and so perfect we don't actually take the private time with God we might need to find out His thoughts on it. So we do whatever it takes to make that thing happen. And we strive and we fuss and we knock ourselves out, stressing over how to make our dream come true.
I have some great, wonderful, Godly girlfriends who reminded me last night that sometimes you do need to put a lot of effort into reaching your dreams. God won't hand us something on a silver platter, even if He has told us that our dream is also His dream for us. Sometimes we need to walk a long, hard road through the wilderness to prepare us for reaching that dream.
Sometimes, however, the dream we have for ourselves is not God's best for us. Sometimes He has something much better and if we finally lay that dream before Him and learn to be content where we are, He can show us a much better plan for our lives. Sometimes our striving and stress and discontent are a sign that our dream is not God's perfect will for our lives. Perhaps if we take the time to listen for His still small voice, we will learn that He is not in the storm, but in the quietness, and in the calm, somewhere far from the stress and striving.
This was a great reminder for me in this new year. I have some awesome friends that I have learned a lot from. I pray this is one lesson that I continuously apply and that the result will be contentment in the place where God wants me to be today.

Centricity Music Reaches 5-Year Company Landmark in 2010

NEW PROJECTS COMING UP THIS YEAR INCLUDE; ME IN MOTION, SIXTEEN CITIES, HIGH VALLEY, ANDREW PETERSON AND DOWNHERE Nashville, TN (January 8, 2010) ----- One of the most respected labels in the Christian genre, Centricity Music, reaches the landmark of five successful years in 2010. The prestigious and innovative label was started in October 2005 with one artist, Jaime Jamgochian, and has quickly grown with ten artists on their label that includes; Downhere, Andrew Peterson, Jason Gray, Lanae’ Hale and Matt Papa. “I guess a lot of folks thought we were crazy at the time we started Centricity Music and rightly so,” says John Mays, Vice President, A&R, Centricity Music. In 2005, in the middle of the worst time in the history of the music business, I think there were times we thought we were crazy too! But God was leading and we did our best to remain faithful in those foundational days. Now, five years later, with the blessing of a staff and roster that I never dreamed we would be able to have, I'm happy we can look back and see that all of our ideas, strategies, successes and failures have all been used by God to help us toward accomplishing our mission, of enabling our artists to create life-changing experiences for the world.” Gearing up for their five-year anniversary, Centricity will be introducing three new artists, Me In Motion, Sixteen Cities and High Valley, while releasing new projects from Andrew Peterson and Downhere this year. Me In Motion – releases their first self-titled Centricity album March 23rd and their current single, “Losers,” is already at #28 and climbing on the CHR chart. The song is a banner for anyone who has felt rejected by their peers and was immediately embraced by audiences on the Newsboys fall tour, which featured Me In Motion. The group is now gearing up to hit the road with Red Pillar later this month. Me In Motion played an incredible 165-dates in 2009. Sixteen Cities – a popular northwest band, Sixteen Cities releases their debut self-titled CD April 20th and their song “Sing Along,” will be playing nationally in several name-brand stores, including Gucci, Nike, Prada, Hollister & AE early this year. The group’s ministry focuses on the unchurched in public high schools and the band was formed while they were still in high school. This means they have become tour veterans in their early twenties and they have been on the road with such acts as Kutless, Building 429, Fireflight and Sanctus Real. High Valley – this trio of Canadian brothers has already generated quite a buzz after their performance in the Centricity suite during GMA last year. Known for their three-part harmony, high-energy stage performances and combining the best of the contemporary Country sound with faith based lyrics, High Valley has already demonstrated a strong mass appeal. They have played with such high-profile artists as Michael W. Smith and Carrie Underwood, and made their debut performance on the CCMA Awards show in the fall with Country singer/songwriter, Paul Brandt. Their self-titled debut full-length project releases May 18th. Andrew Peterson – one of the most respected singer/songwriters in the business will release his second album on Centricity Music, July 27th. His critically acclaimed first CD on the label, Resurrection Letters, Volume II, received a 4 ½ stars review from Christian Single magazine and JesusFreakHideOut.com says, “….he is never miserly when it comes to producing quality albums that are honest, poignant, and relatable.” The CD resulted in a Top 20 hit with, “The Good Confession,” and, “Invisible God,” has just been released and is climbing the charts. We can expect more vibrant music arrangements and thought-provoking lyrics on the new forthcoming album from one of Christian music’s favorites. Downhere – Last year proved a significant time for this well-respected group. They dominated the charts with their hits, “Hope Is Rising,” “My Last Amen,” and the ever popular, “How Many Kings.” They also released their first Christmas project, How Many Kings: Songs For Christmas, that the Tennessean said, “…the album shines with the thoughtful touches of a band that refused to make a sing-by-numbers holiday disc.” The band also added NINE CCMA Awards, out of ELEVEN nominations, to their accolades. Downhere will head back into the studio this spring and will release their fourth CD on Centricity Music this winter. The popular singer/songwriter, Jason Gray, had his CD, Everything Sad Is Coming Untrue, listed as the #8 best faith-based album for 2009 on the Top Ten critic’s list for CCM Magazine. Matt Conner said, Most unheralded songwriter in the entire industry shines again. Gray spent most of the year on the road supporting the project, as he played 150-dates across the country with such acts as Sanctus Real. He also visited thirty-three radio stations in the latter half of last year promoting of his new single, “More Like Falling In Love.” Jason will join WAY-FM’s and World Vision’s Speaking Louder Than Before 2010 Tour with Jeremy Camp, The Afters and Chasen on January 20th in Charleston, South Carolina. Lanae’ Hale closed out 2009 being selected as the #7 best faith-based album for 2009 on CCM Magazine’s Top Critic list. Andrew Greer said, Creative production. Unique voice. Stellar songs. Loads of talent. The best new artist debut of the year by far. Hale’s talent shined on the recent Bethlehem Skyline Tour with Downhere and Jason Gray. She introduced a new Christmas song, “Starving Artist Christmas,” that delighted fans on the fifteen-date tour. Misconception that musicians have money ‘cause I’ve got two jobs and a full-time honey/I can’t even feed a cat because my husband doesn’t even have an ounce of fat. Hale remains one of the most unique female artists in the Christian genre and new exciting announcements will be coming later this year. Matt Papa released his debut project on Centricity Music, Your Kingdom Come, last summer and currently his single, “Open Hands,” is New & Active on the CHR chart and #2 on the national radio outlet, Air1. The unique talent of Papa generated great reviews and appearances on Daystar’s, Celebration and Soundcheck. On Course Magazine said, “Surprisingly, Matt brings purity and edginess to his music that I found instantly appealing yet familiar. This guy has talent.” After playing 120-dates last year, Papa will be touring the southeast in the first quarter of this year. Speaking Louder Than Before 2010 Tour

Nashville, TN (January 7, 2010) ---- Singer/songwriter, Jason Gray, will start the New Year by hitting the road on WAY-FM’s and World Vision’s Speaking Louder Than Before 2010 Tour. The tour launches January 20th in Charleston, SC and will cover fourteen dates through March. Gray joins headliner Jeremy Camp, The Afters and Chasen on the tour and for ticket information please visit www.itickets.com. “I’m so honored to have been invited to share the stage with Jeremy Camp,” says Gray. “Not only is he one of the most successful artists in Christian music, but he’s also a man with a compelling story who has known brokenness – a theme that a lot of my music speaks to. We expect it to be a great tour and I’m so happy to be a part of it. The only problem I can foresee is that he’s pretty buff and it’s going to make me feel like I need to start working out. Shoot. I’m also looking forward to hanging out with The Afters and Chasen. What a great line-up!”
“But most of all I’m grateful to get to be the voice of World Vision on this tour and advocate for the poorest of the poor children in the world,” Gray continues. “The recession that has touched so many of us in several ways impacts the poor the most and it’s my great privilege to bring their story to our audiences. We anticipate that this will be a great evening – both with a solid musical line-up and with a lot of heart. God will be worshipped and lives will be changed.”
Speaking Louder Than Before 2010 Tour begins as Gray’s second single, “More Like Falling In Love,” is going for adds at Christian radio. Gray has been traveling the country on radio visits that started in 2009 and continues through January 2010. The song is from Gray’s current CD, Everything Sad Is Coming Untrue, which was rated as #8 in CCM’s Top Ten best faith-based albums from last year. Matt Conner says, Most unheralded songwriter in the entire industry shines again. Other media outlets have heralded the release with Worship Leader Magazine saying, Gray’s songs don’t really work as background music, they demand to be listened to and considered. And PowerSource Magazine adding, Strong stuff from a strong and very creative Christian singer and songwriter – Jason Gray. Gray has become a popular performer on the tour circuit, as 2009 featured Gray on the Sanctus Real tour that launched in September. In December, Gray joined labelmates, Downhere and Lanae’ Hale, for the annual fifteen-city Bethlehem Skyline Tour that was sponsored by Centricity Music. Gray’s debut CD on Centricity Music, All The Lovely Losers, was heralded as one of the top releases in 2007. Media outlets embraced the project and Gray from the start with coverage in CCM Magazine, ChristianMusicToday.com, Charisma, Christian Retailing, Worship Leader Magazine, JesusFreakHideout.com, Home Life Magazine, and Focus on the Family’s national radio show, Weekend Magazine. This project was followed with Acoustic Storytime that showcased live acoustic performances of previously released songs from concerts in Minnesota and California. Gray is known for his quick-witted humor while delivering powerful messages about perseverance rather than perfection. Hoppers In Concert In Missippi Jan 14

RIPLEY, MS — One of Southern Gospel Music’s most celebrated and award-winning family singing groups will be traveling to Ripley for a special musical experience, and the concert is being offered free to the public.
America’s Favorite Family of Gospel Music, the Hoppers, will perform on Thurs., Jan. 14th, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at West Ripley Baptist Church, 773 Cooper Street.
The Hoppers have been longtime anchors on the Bill Gaither Homecoming videos and television programs. In conjunction with the Homecoming Friends, they have literally toured and sung around the world, performing before more than 900,000 people per year in major sports arenas and at venues in foreign countries.
As for the upcoming Ripley event, the Hoppers have something unique in mind: the Hopper Heritage Tour, a grand concert series that is presented at select locations. It’s being described as a full audio/visual program where the Hoppers — Claude, Connie, Mike, Dean, and Kim — perform many of the sacred songs from their ministry beginnings, as well as their biggest hits.
Some fan favorites and chart topping hits include such classics as: “Shoutin’ Time,” “Here I Am,” “Anchor To the Power of the Cross,” “Yes I Am,” “Jerusalem,” “That’s Him,” and others.
“We’re pulling out all the stops for this concert,” said Claude Hopper, founder and manager of the group. “It is always a great honor for our family to sing before friends in Mississippi. We hope everyone will be encouraged and touched by the powerful gospel message in song.”
Concert planners say seeing the Hoppers live in concert will certainly remind listeners just how encouraging and comforting it is to hear unadulterated Southern Gospel music at its very best. The night will be rousing and entertaining for all age groups.
“After the concert, my family and I look forward to meeting and greeting friends who join us for the evening,” Dean Hopper, group member, added. “We’ll be autographing special copies of CDs, and of our hardback book, After All These Years: The Authorized Biography of the Hoppers. We look at this concert in Ripley as a great opportunity to greet old acquaintances and make new friends, too!”
A love offering will be taken during the concert.
