New River News - From Karen Peck and New River

Hey Friends,

We were so pleased with our homecoming this past weekend. Jeff & Sheri, the New River Band and CS&K outdid themselves. It was a lot of fun to have so many of my lady friends helping out in the kitchen. The only thing, now it is so quiet in my home! Seems like we work all year to get to this particular week and then before we know it, it’s over. We especially thank the Lord that it did not rain.

Our hearts are still broken for the Bowling family. It’s still gonna be a while before they will be back in full swing. Please continue to pray for them. Next week, Tuesday, August 3rd there will be a benefit concert for them at TBN. All the proceeds will go toward their ministry.

Most of you know that the SGMA (Southern Gospel Music Association) and the Singing News Fan Awards have merged to present one of the greatest events of this year. September 29th we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Southern Gospel Music, inducting some of the finest artists into the SGMA Hall of Fame, and awarding the top artists with the Singing News Fan Awards. This is an event you will want to attend! There have been hours of preparation for this memorial, spectacular night. You can order your tickets at sgma.org. It will be held at Dollywood and Dolly Parton will be receiving the Impact Award and will attend the show. DO NOT MISS IT!

As always, we want to thank all of our precious DJ friends. You are such a part of our ministry. Thank you for all that you do. Together we are reaching a lost and dieing world for Jesus. “Why Should I Worry” is such a timely song for the day we’re living in. Thank you for playing it on your stations.

We are have a lot of great things happening and really appreciate all your prayers that we will make the right decisions for our ministry. The Lord has been so good to us. He remains faithful through every area of our lives. It is an honor to serve Him.

Have a wonderful week.

We love you,
Karen

Ernie Haase & Signature Sound Visit Ben Speer's Stamps Baxter School of Music

NASHVILLE, TENN. (July 23, 2010)—Ernie Haase & Signature Sound performed on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Ben Speer's Stamps Baxter School of Music in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The evening was especially poignant for Ernie Haase. “I've got a picture on my wall of an 18 year old George Younce attending the Stamps Baxter School of Music. To be here 50 years later is very special to us. As I looked out on the audience of students, I wondered to myself who the next George Younce will be. We loved being with Ben Speer and everyone at Stamps Baxter School of Music. Ben Speer has done an amazing job carrying on the legacy and excellence at the school."

"That's the way a quartet is supposed to sound!" Ben said to the students immediately following the concert. Later, he commented: "I was delighted to see how Ernie connected with the audience of students, inspiring the next generation of musicians.”

On Saturday, July 24, 2010, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound will present a Concert Tribute to The Cathedrals Quartet. The evening will be hosted by Bill Gaither and will feature Ernie Haase & Signature Sound singing the best-loved songs from The Cathedrals’ legendary repertoire of quartet standards. With their own unique style, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound will honor their quartet heritage while breathing new energy into gospel hits that have been favorites for decades. Although the show is sold out, the magic will be captured on DVD and CD to be released by Gaither Music Group on October 26, 2010.

About Ernie Haase & Signature Sound
Combining 21st century ideas with the timeless quality of great quartets from the 1950s, Grammy-nominated Ernie Haase & Signature Sound has broken the traditional mold of gospel quartets. Their unconventional approach to communicating the Good News with groundbreaking originality has blazed a trail that will go down in gospel music history.

The group's founder and leader, Ernie Haase, was a long-time member of the Cathedral Quartet, headed by the late George Younce. Ernie's roots are deeply planted in the rich legacy of music that is both meaningful and thoroughly entertaining. After the Cathedrals bid farewell to their five-decade run in the music industry, Ernie's passion for gospel music led him to a new beginning.

Ernie Haase & Signature Sound's success continues with each new release, but perhaps their most rewarding achievement is the new generation of gospel music lovers emerging across the globe. The group's contagious energy spreads through entertaining performances packed with truth and overflowing with a joyful spirit of gratitude... bringing listeners around the world their refreshing approach to gospel classics and new material that is uniquely Signature Sound.

The music schools held or sponsored by Stamps-Baxter until the mid 1950s provided training in various aspects of music. The desire to educate and train competent gospel musicians prompted Ben Speer to resume the tradition of the Stamps-Baxter School in 1988. Christian Music Talent, Donna Beauvais, Nominated For Best Actress In The Alaska International Film Festival

Beauvais, the voice of animated character, Elf Sparkle, is nominated, along with best actor nominee, John de Lancie, both for roles in upcoming Christmas cartoon, Elf Sparkle Meets Christmas The Horse.

Nashville, TN (July 13, 2010) – Christian music’s multi-talented, Donna Beauvais, is nominated for best actress in the upcoming Alaska International Film Festival for her role as Elf Sparkle in an independent animated cartoon entitled, Elf Sparkle Meets Christmas The Horse. Co-star of the film, John de Lancie, best known for his role as Q in the Star Trek series, is also nominated, for best actor for his portrayal of Santa Claus. In addition to the best actress nod, Beauvais is also nominated for Best Music Video, where she sings one of the featured songs from the cartoon, “Christmas Is Coming,” written by French song-writer, Cedric Coche. Awards will be handed out during the film festival in Anchorage, Alaska on July 15th, 2010.

Many Christian music fans will remember Beauvais for her years in the dynamic trio Hope’s Call. Hope’s Call was a family group whose success was marked by numerous award nominations, top 10 songs in both the Southern Gospel and Soft AC Christian radio markets, but, most importantly, a strong focus on the spiritual impact of music in the lives of people. The group toured fulltime all over the US, as well as, Canada for seven years, before coming home from the road to begin new seasons in their lives. Beauvais’ home base is Franklin, TN, where she is owner and president of Vertical Sky. She is a producer, songwriter, and radio promoter for Daywind Records and independent artists. She wears several other music and media related hats, as well. Being the voice of an animated cartoon character is the newest of her many career opportunities. She will attest that it is also one of the most wonderful experiences of her life.

Beauvais shares, “The way that this opportunity came to be could only be God and God alone. The writer of these precious childrens’ animated cartoons, Beth Roose, had heard Hope’s Call’s Christmas recording. Her first cartoon was a Christmas one, and so she contacted us and asked us to be a part of the endeavor by singing in it. We happily accepted and made our first trip back into the studio, after coming off the road, to record several of the songs in the cartoon. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, Beth and her team asked if I would be the voice of the main character, Elf Sparkle. My first reaction was ‘ME??’ The answer was YES! I now have three cartoons completed and another about to get underway. To say this experience is fun would be a major understatement. When my kids were young, I’d watch cartoons with them and always imagine myself playing a character with a singing role. God sure does know even the unspoken desires of our heart! I am so thankful for the amazing Beth Roose, along with Joyce Cannon, and the many others that have come into my life as a result of this experience. I have acted along side Margaret O’Brien (Meet Me In St. Louis), John de Lancie (co-nominee), Rob Schneider (comedian and actor in countless big screen movies), Catherine Hicks (7th Heaven), and more. Somebody pinch me! I can hardly believe it, but I am having a blast!”

Yard Sale to Benefit Mike & Kelly Bowling

Yard Sale to Benefit Mike & Kelly Bowling.

Saturday 7/17
7:30 AM
215 Cherokee Dr
Simpsonville, SC

From Dee Ann Bailey:

Most of you receiving this know that in addition to my job and my church I am also a big fan of gospel music and have even done some writing for some national magazines and digital magazines. On Thursday, July 1st a group that my daughter and I both love, the people and their music, the Bowling family were in a horrific bus accident. Mike & Kelly each have some serious injuries and others on the bus were injured as well. They are going to be off the road for some time to heal from this plus the cost of all the damages. The Bowlings are well known in the Southern Gospel world but their influence has reached even farther as they have recently been guest performers on the Grand Ole Opry and Kelly & Terah were part of the Crabb Family and are sisters of Jason Crabb.

It’s often said that one person can’t do much, but also if every person does something a lot can be accomplished. If this doesn’t interest you, stop reading now and delete with no hard feelings. But I wanted to let folks I know what Alicia (my daughter) and I have decided to do. When Alicia first mentioned having a yard sale with the proceeds going to Mike and Kelly, my first thought was – man I just gave a truck load of stuff to our church for a mission yard sale- I’m not sure I have anything left. But as I began to think I realized yes we do have things we didn’t get together for the previous yard sales so maybe this would work.

Since then I’ve talked to a number of folks that say they have items to donate so it looks like we might have a decent size sale after all. I’m passing this to you for a several reasons. 1) if donations continue to come in, we may need a large place than my home to have this yard sale so if you know of any spaces or lots with high traffic that would be available for a day, please let me know. 2) if you have anything sitting that you would like to donate, we will definitely take donations (please no junk, just items that can actually be sold) and lastly- 3) if you like yard sales please come out and see what we may have that you need and/or pass this on to others that might be interested.

At this moment the sale is scheduled for Saturday 7/17 at 7:30 215 Cherokee Dr Simpsonville, SC. As I said above that could change but we would advise if that is the case.

More details on the accident can be found at http://www.southerngospel.com/Southern-Gospel-News/11634197/ or at their website http://www.themikebowlinggroup.com/

SGM Radio Blog’s Top Ten: The Glory Barn

We are thrilled to share with you these mini-interviews with some great Southern Gospel artists! Check back often to see who is next on the SGM Radio Blog's Top Ten!

The Glory Barn by Leta Mowan

The Glory Barn dinner theater, in Kansas City, Kansas, presents the gospel through song by talented artists from all around the United States. We provide a casual atmosphere where visitors can come with their friends, sit down and eat, and enjoy gospel music at its best.

The Glory Band members:
Lead guitar & singer; Leo Smith
Rhythmn guitar & Country gospel singer, Sharon Smith
Director, lead, rhythm, bass guitarist; and singer: Rick Mowen
Piano & singer; Carolyn Gentzill
Leta Mowen; promoter of the Glory Barn, singer, song writer, and organist.

The Glory Barn’s Top Ten – By Leta Mowen

1. Please tell us the name of your latest recording and your favorite song from that CD. What is the message behind this song?

The Glory Barn’s Band has not yet recorded an album.
My favorite song of all that I have written is,“If I Had It All To Do Again”.
The message is that I’d give my life to Jesus all over again because He is the Way,
The Truth, and the Life. I have learned through the valleys that Jesus is always there helping me and He will give me the strength to see me through.

2. What is the group highlight from the last 12 months?

The Glory Barn highlight from the last 12 months: I’d have to give credit to all the singers and musicians who have graced the Glory Barn with their beautiful voices because they all have made a total impact on our mission. That is, to tell others about God’s mercy, his forgiveness, and redeeming love for us and through Him we can have our sins forgiven and have everlasting life.

3. Have you been on a mission trip? If you have, where did you go? If you haven’t, would you like to and where would you want to go?

I haven’t been on a mission trip. I would want to go to New York City. Violence is always present and I believe it’s because of so many children being raised from broken homes or they are tossed out onto the streets at a young age and they don’t know any other way but to steal and beg for a living. They really need to know that someone cares and to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
4. What artist are you listening to right now?
The Liberty Belles Trio from Columbia, MO. They will be coming to sing at the Glory Barn on the 1st of May, 2010t.
5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Healing the sick. My mother and twin sister died from cancer and my oldest brother from a heart attack.

6. What would be your fantasy venue, the one stage in the world where you would like to sing?

Carnegie Hall. It is a concert venue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City and it has always intrigued me.

7. Who is your favorite Christian author/teacher/evangelist?

Pam Morgan from Lees Summit, MO. She and writer; Brenda Black wrote a book, “I Stand”; about Pam’s brush with death from a tragic accident and how the Lord helped her through her numerous surgeries and today she sings with her husband, gives her testimony, speaks at women’s retreats, and is such an inspiration to me.

8. Who is your most favorite Bible person/character?

Mother of Jesus, Mary. Why? She believed God and followed him even though she was ridiculed and shamed for getting pregnant and did what she was told to do and humbled herself to give birth to our King.

9. Name a song that once it gets stuck in your head you can’t get it out.

“You are my sunshine”….my only sunshine”

10. Name a character trait or fruit of the spirit you would really like to develop in your life.

I would like to develop more patience. We live in a fast track generation where everything is fast food, fast service, fast cars, fast internet, etc. God wants us to wait on Him sometimes for his answer and that takes a great deal of patience and trusting him.

When you have a passion for something and it results in recognition from industry peers, it’s just that much more rewarding,” said Hope Daley, Vice President - Sky Angel Productions, LLC.

We are thrilled to share with you these mini-interviews with some great Southern Gospel artists! Check back often to see who is next on the SGM Radio Blog's Top Ten!

The Moore Family

We were born and raised in the hills of Eastern Kentucky. Group members include Jerry Moore singing lead, Elizabeth Moore on vocals and keyboards, and their son Noah Hamer also on vocals.

The Moore Family’s Top Ten

1. Please tell us the name of your latest recording and your favorite song from that CD. What is the message behind this song?
Our latest recording is “That’s Enough For Me”. As the title cut and our favorite song from the recording. “That’s Enough For Me”. I know that Jesus saved me and that’s all that will matter when this life is over is if His precious blood has been applied to your soul. Praise His Name forever.

2. What is one group highlight from the last 12 months?
There have been a lot of highlights from getting to open for the legendary Larry Sparks in a concert in March 2010, and some other great artists. But the greatest highlight is every soul we have been able to witness to and tell about Jesus. All the great services we been in and all those precious souls saved - that’s the biggest and best highlight for The Moore Family.

3. Where is your favorite place to eat on the road?
Any Family oriented restaurant that doesn’t serve alcohol. If they serve alcohol they don’t get our business and we will just starve. We would have to say Golden Corral as our favorite.

The Little House On the Prairie

5. What was the best decade for music? Favorite artist from that decade?
Would have to say the 1970’s. That’s when The Primitive Quartet got started and one of many of our favorite groups. They are still singing and we thank the Lord for them and their service for him.

Happy Canada Day

All You Ever Wanted To Know About CANADA DAY!
From Wikipedia

Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada), formerly Dominion Day (French: Le Jour de la Confédération), is Canada's national day, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united two British colonies and a province of the British Empire into a single country called Canada. Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada as well as internationally.

Frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday", particularly in the popular press,[1][2][3] the occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1, 1867. Canada became a kingdom in its own right on that date,[4][5][6] but the British Parliament kept limited rights of political control over the new country that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982 when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution.

I am Canadian and proud of it. I love our American neighbours, but Canada is my home and in my opinion, the best Country to live in. We are known as the peacekeepers, the land that welcomes all nations, and the home of the 2010 Olympics. During the last recession we had the strongest economy. Our health care system is one of the best - though even it needs reform. We have our problems like all nations and we don't always get along. We are fortunate that images like burning cars in the middle of Toronto are a rarity.
Canadians cannot be generalized; we are as diverse as our land. We have the freedom to speak as we please, to go where we want and to worship in the way we prefer. I love that our coat of arms has the motto: 'From Sea To Sea', and this is also echoed in the etchings on our buildings in Ottawa, our nation's capital, which read: "He shall have dominion from sea to sea"...from Psalm 72:8. Our nation was founded on Biblical principals and I pray one day we shall return to them.
Happy Canada Day.
