MIKE COMPTON and JOE NEWBERRY: LIVE

Grammy award winning mandolin master Mike Compton, and prizewinning guitarist and songwriter Joe Newberry, are releasing a LIVE album of 12 traditional, old-time, and bluegrass ballads and instrumental pieces on January 27, 2013.

Tracks include East Tennessee Blues, Righteous Pathway, Sittin' On Top of the World, Lazy John, Rocky Road Blues, How Long Blues, Evening Prayer Blues, Kentucky Waltz, Rocky Island, I know Whose Tears, Raleigh and Spencer, and Fly Around My Pretty Lil' Miss. This cd was recorded LIVE at Brandywine Friends in Newark, Delaware, this past February, 2012, using one microphone.

In their 2012 debut album, LIVE, Mike Compton and Joe Newberry mine one of the more neglected segments of country music history, that period during the '30s and '40's when brother duet music was transforming into bluegrass. These two masters of the bedrock of old time music collaborate with a vision that's both modern and ageless. Few are better equipped for the task with Newberry able to replicate the under-appreciated power of country rhythm guitar styles and open back banjo, and then mix in Compton's master of the Monroe style of mandolin with their simpatico duet singing, and you have a two person string band that can effortlessly move from traditional songs to contemporary instrumentals, to 'mother' ballads, to original compositions---all with an ease that belies their intensity. It's not about the number of notes with Compton and Newberry. it's about telling the truth and paying homage to the song.

"They pull off what's almost impossible these days: honest, genuine music that will get your soul dancing." - Chris Stuart, Bluegrass Today

"This recording really captures vintage bluegrass tone. Compton and Newberry tear up the music with nuance and skill…" - Dan Beimborn, Owner/Webmaster, Mandolin Archive

"Joe Newberry is one of my favorite songwriters and interpreters of the old songs. Mike Compton's playing is part of my musical DNA. My earliest infatuation was with The Nashville Bluegrass Band and his mandolin rang out in my head as I tried to figure out how to make music with other pickers. When I learned two of my favorites had formed a duo I was very excited, but still not prepared for how good it would be. Mike Compton and Joe Newberry make music together. Lots of people play together, but few are able to make music. With only two voices and two instruments they can break your heart with one song and make you want to shout with joy on the next. Newly written songs sound ancient and their choice of covers seem somehow new. Their LIVE 2012 album is a must for lovers of real music." - Leigh Gibson, The Gibson Brothers.

"An absolutely brilliant performance captured live, a reminder of just how much great music can be made by two musicians. Their rendering of Evening Prayer Blues is worth the price of the recording alone." - Scott Tichenor, Mandolin Cafe

"Mike Compton and Joe Newberry --that's a powerful combination! There's a lot of studying behind the music here, a lot of repeated listening to scratchy records and hissy tapes, a lot of working on licks over and over to get them just right, and a lot of figuring out how to put them together in combinations that have never been heard before, and yet sound -- and fee--just exactly right, just like what's on those old records and tapes. But the beauty of this music is that, deeply informed and knowledgable as it is, it never feels pedantic; rather, it's as alive and in the moment as anything you're going to hear. Mike and Joe are good enough that they could probably get pretty comfortable in the cold confines of a studio, but they're also smart enough to know that the risk of a missed note here and there is more than offset by the spirit and stimulation of a live recording--and sure enough, this one's a dandy." - Jon Weisberger

Williamsons Return From Successful Mission Trip

Weleetka, OK (January 28, 2013) Multi-award nominated Gospel group, the Williamsons, has just returned from a time of ministry in the area of Granada, Nicaragua. They traveled as part of the Gospel Station Radio Network sponsored World Mission Team who specializes in missionary evangelism. This is the second international missions endeavor for The Williamsons with The World Mission Team.

Donnie Williamson, manager and baritone singer for the group said, “The need is so great in areas like Granada and similar places around the world. The laborers seem to be few, but the rewards are so great. The joy of witnessing the message of the Gospel to this poor country was overwhelming, and watching the Doctors minister to their physical needs was such a blessing that your heart just melted within you.”

The team would gather each morning at a school and would minister with other groups of missionaries at an event called Med Fest which was coordinated by Way of the Cross Ministries based in Harlengen, Texas. Thousands came for free medical care and the Gospel was shared with each and every one. The Williamsons would then leave on an old school bus and visit three different villages each day and share the Gospel in song and testimony.

Donnie continued to state, “The area was very poor and some of the villages did not even have electricity.”

They would at times gather under a tree and sing with a guitar. Each time they stopped hundreds would gather to hear what they had to share and thousands responded to the Gospel message. Following each service the group would give food and literature to the adults and tracts and candy to each child.
By the end of the trip some 2500 had made professions of faith after hearing the precious Gospel of Jesus Christ.

You can contact the Williamsons at booking@williamsonsmusic.com, http://www.williamsonsmusic.com, or http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Williamsons

SYNOPSIS

As teenagers, skateboarding legends Brian Sumner and Christian Hosoi helped shape a culture. They reached amazing heights and broke countless records in pursuit of innovation and greatness. They were stars. They were heroes. As they will tell you themselves, they were fools — until they decided to lay their sins at the foot of the cross and never look back.

They traded in the destructive habits of boys to serve Christ as men, using their God-given talents to minister to America’s youth in a way very few can. Armed with hardcore biblical teachings, stirring testimony and authentic, street-level insight, Brian Sumner and Christian Hosoi speak in a language that can’t be faked — and work tirelessly to share a message that can’t be ignored. Foolishness, from SkateBible, is a daily devotional. It’s a witness tool. It’s an exciting, artfully made skate video featuring some of the biggest names in professional skateboarding — men now living as dedicated servants of the Lord.

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

A skateboarding prodigy from Liverpool, England, Brian moved to the U.S. and turned pro while still a teenager. A star in the fast-moving world of skating, Brian saw his marriage collapse, dealt with anger issues and ended up on probation. To fulfill a court-ordered community service obligation, he worked in a Christian thrift store. It was there he began to explore religion with the same intensity he brought to all aspects of life. Meeting other skaters who had embraced Christianity led Brian to The Sanctuary, a church with a skateboarding pastor, Jay Haizlip. After coming to faith, Brian remarried his wife (adding two more children to the one they had) and now uses his talent as a springboard for international ministry.

FOOLISHNESS takes viewers on a skateboarding thrill ride offering a vibrant new way to connect with God’s word as some of the world’s best skaters display their skills and declare eternal truths from the Bible. Produced by SkateBible and distributed by EchoLight Studios, FOOLISHNESS will be available in retail stores and online March 5.

Hey ,

What an incredible week we just spent on the high seas! We were a part of the cruise to Cozumel, Grand Caymen and Jamaica sponsored by KWFC 89.1 FM out of Springfield, MO. Fellowship, fun, food, and plenty of great gospel music. One great highlight was the reunion of Jubilation/White River, a popular Christian Country band that last performed in the mid 1990's. When we say band, we mean BAND! Those men can pick as well as sing. A big thanks to KWFC for the invitation to be a part of such a wonderful week. After making our way back to land, we capped off this working vacation with an evening concert for the great people of Baker, Florida.

DANNY’S FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"In spite of everything I shall rise again: I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in my great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing." -Vincent Van Gogh

FINAL THOUGHTS

We can look around and see that our world is in a sad state of affairs. War, famine, natural disasters, sickness, conflicts among each other–it’s all a sign of the times. But God in his word gave us the answer. To paraphrase a familiar passage of scripture from the 2ndBook of Chronicles, if the people of God will humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways, God will hear and heal their land. Notice it doesn’t say a thing about sinners, evil ones, or those who hate God. It’s God saying, "If MY people." Christians, if WE will do what the Bible says, we have the power of God on our side to bring about radical changes for the better in this world. It is the prayer of Gold City that you will live the promises of 2 Chronicles 7:14 in your own life this week!

From Karen Peck and New River's email newsletter of January 28, 2013"

We, along with thousands of others, are continuing to pray and believe God for a miracle for our dear friend, Tracy Stuffle. He suffered a stroke a few days ago and is still in the ICU unit in Nashville.
We love The Perry's! Please help us pray for Tracy as well as Libbi and Jared.

I'm so amazed at how God works in our lives. We had an incredible weekend with several lives being changed. Susan, Jeff, and I agree that our hearts are more broken for the hurting people than ever before. You know, I'm finding that when I concentrate on the Lord, everything around me seems to fall into place. I'm sincerely praying that He will continue to teach me to completely trust Him in every area of my life. So many times I try to fix things on my own which usually winds up in a total disaster! How much better life is when I let God do the fixing!!! Lol

As always, we want to thank our precious DJ's for playing our music!!
'Sustaining Grace' features Susan and it is her first radio single in several years! It is my favorite song that she sings.
'God Lives There' is a song from my solo album which has Wes Hampton and Ben Isaacs singing along with me.
We are very excited about having two radio songs out at the same time! We haven't done this in several years.
The DJ's are playing both songs!!
Thanks to all of you for calling your local radio station and requesting both songs!! Lol

This special edition of TBN's signature “Praise the Lord” show will feature performances from a number of popular artists, including the Booth Brothers, the Bowling Family, Gold City, Greater Vision, Jeff & Sheri Easter, the Kingdom Heirs, LeFevre Quartet, the Nelons, Three Bridges, Tribute Quartet and Palmetto State Quartet featuring Grammy Award-winning country music great Wynonna Judd.

"I am honored to host the 2013 SGMG Harmony Honors and to be a part in recognizing these amazing songwriters,” said Jason Crabb, a regular TBN “Praise the Lord” host. “I cut my teeth on their songs, and their work has been a big part of my own musical heritage.”

TBN Vice President Matthew Crouch noted that Gospel Music has been a regular part of TBN's history over the past 40 years. “We've welcomed many Gospel greats over the years,” he said. “The rich harmonies and inspirational message of this sacred music have been a blessing to generations of TBN viewers. We're honored once again to host the SGMG Harmony Honors.”

Admission to the January 29th live TBN taping of the Harmony Honors at Nashville's Trinity Music City is free to the public, with 1,500 seats available. Doors open at 6 p.m. (Central Time) and the program begins at 7 p.m.

Mercy's Well Haiti Trip Update

From Mercy Well's email newsletter of January 24, 2013:

What a week it has been! Before we get into what's been going on this week, we want to take a few moments and share with you about our previous weekend. Victory Baptist Church in Bonneau, SC was our first stop. It had been a couple of years since our last visit, so we were able to share some new music with the congregation. Pastor Jim, Latesha and the folks at Gray Hills Baptist in Beaufort, SC hosted us for our Sunday evening service. It had also been about two years since we last partnered with this body of believers, and it was so nice to see them and re-connect once again.

We want to thank you all for remembering Brad and Greg as they have been traveling across the country of Haiti this week. I (Kyle) have been in touch with them briefly, as internet access becomes available to them. Here is an update posted by Zane King, one of the Compassion leaders on this trip, at about 10:30 PM on Wednesday:

Just returned to Port Au Prince after spending the past couple of days
on an island called Ill-A-Vaches, where the only way around is by boat
or foot. No electricity there either. We...had church with some of the most
amazing people on this planet! I'm blessed!

Please continue to lift this team up in your prayers, as their week is only halfway finished. They will be arriving back in the States sometime on Friday, where we will rendezvous in Florida, and head out to our dates for this weekend!
Thank you all for your prayers. Have a blessed week!

RIDING ON EARLY PRAISE, ‘NOT TODAY’ HEADS FOR THEATERS APRIL 12

New Movie Entertains, Enlightens on the Plight of India’s ‘Untouchables;’ January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

NotTodaytheMovie.com

YORBA LINDA, Calif. – Jan. 23, 2013 – On a wave of strong praise from advance screenings, NOT TODAY—the first church-made film around an international issue—hits theaters Friday, April 12. (See below for list of debut cities.) In NOT TODAY, a spoiled young American encounters trafficking of children among India’s “untouchables” and is forever changed.

“NOT TODAY is the first feature-length, faith-based film to tackle human trafficking, a global disease,” Producer Brent Martz said. “It’s entertainment, yes. But entertainment with world-changing purpose.”

NOT TODAY is produced by Friends Media, an arm of Friends Church of Yorba Linda, Calif., where Martz heads creative ministries. Rising star Cody Longo (Hollywood Heights, Fame, Make It or Break It) plays Caden, a spoiled, SoCal rich kid partying in India. On mean city streets, he’s oblivious to the so-called “untouchables” until a young girl sold into slavery draws him into the world of India’s outcast Dalits. Fighting to find her, Caden finds himself and his faith re-energized. Also featured in NOT TODAY: John Schneider (OCTOBER BABY, Smallville, The Dukes of Hazzard), Shari Rigby (OCTOBER BABY, The Bold and the Beautiful) and Cassie Scerbo (Make It or Break It, Hot in Cleveland).

Typical audience response to NOT TODAY, from the advance screening at the 2012 Urbana student missions conference in St. Louis:

“Gripping, informative movie that takes you into its world . . . makes you want to get involved to make a difference.”
"Everyone should see this film. You cannot walk away unchanged."
"Heartbreaking and eye-opening . . . I am inspired to make a change."
“Wow! Should have warned us to bring Kleenex."
NOT TODAY echoes in daily headlines:

Jan. 11 was International Human Trafficking Awareness Day
President Barack Obama recently declared January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month in the United States.
Louis Giglio, founder of the Passion movement, heavily focused the Passion 2013 conference on the battle against trafficking and the support of exploited people.
And stark statistics underscore growing concern around the globe:

An estimated 27 million people worldwide are in forced labor including sexual exploitation as a result of trafficking. SOURCE: U.N. Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking
Profits from all trafficked forced labor: estimated $31.6 billion/year. SOURCE: U.N. Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking
India’s Dalit population is among the world’s most vulnerable to the global industry in human abuse:

More than 1.2 million children in India are trapped in human trafficking as child prostitutes. SOURCE: National Underground Railroad Freedom Center India Conference
“For centuries Dalits, the ‘lowest of the low,’ have grown up believing they are less than animals,” said Matthew Cork, NOT TODAY executive producer and lead pastor of Friends Church. “Christianity tells them they are made in the image of God.”

Using education to lift Dalit lives and prospects, Friends Church has committed $20 million to build 200 of 1,000 proposed schools for Dalit children in the coming decade. Friends already has funded more than 40 of the current 107 schools. Profits from NOT TODAY go toward building schools and freeing children.

NOT TODAY premieres across the nation April 12 in these markets:

West Hamlin, WV (January 21, 2013) AG Publicity, Nashville, TN, is pleased to announce Steven Lawson, renowned Gospel singer and soloist, has signed an extensive publicity agreement.

At the tender age of eight years old it was evident that Steven was destined to sing. From singing in his local church though his high school years his career has moved upward. He started his professional career singing with Conrad Cook and the Calvary Echoes. From there he moved on to sing Lead for the Dixie Melody Boys. Finally he found a nitch as a soloist. Missing the tight harmonies of a group, Steven formed his own group, the Royal Heirs. Moving on again, in 2002 Steven joined the cast of the Carolina Jamboree in Myrtle Beach, SC.

He eventually felt the call to return to his solo ministry and is now covering the map singing and testifying to what God has done for his life. Steven said, “I decided that if I am going to put my all into what God has called me to do, it was time to take a step to go to another level of ministry, and I believe that AG Publicity has the ability to help me get there.”

Deon Unthank, founder of AG Publicity stated “Adding artists to our company is not something taken lightly. We feel that Steven has the quality and ability to make a difference in reaching people for Christ. We are excited about what he has to offer the Southern Gospel/Christian Country arenas around the country.”

Steven has a powerful testimony of how God brought him through a terrible car crash and he would love to share that with your congregation or concert crowd,

Steven is adding the finishing touches to a new solo project which will be available soon. You can contact Steven at www.stevenlawson.org, bookings@stevenlawson.org, or https://www.facebook.com/stevenalawson

Gold City News and Audition Information

Gold City Quartet email newsletter of January 19, 2013:

WEEKEND REWIND

We met some awesome people the past two weekends while on tour. Our first stop on January 12th was Fort Payne, AL at The Pickin’ Post with promoter Mike Owens. Take it from Gold City, the folks in Fort Payne know how to enjoy southern gospel music. We were greeted by a near capacity crowd and we had ourselves a time. From there, we traveled to Fairdale, KY and worshiped with the folks at Harvest Baptist Church, where we found a warm welcome by the friendly congregation on Sunday morning. To be honest, singing in the morning isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but the folks in Fairdale made that early morning wake-up call worth it.

Our final stop for the weekend was in Nashville, TN. We made our way to Tusculum Hills Baptist Church, where we capped off our trip with a Sunday evening concert for the great folks in Music City on January 13th. It was great to see Ken Harding and all the crew from our record company, NewHaven Records, our radio promoter Jan Puryear, Todd, Melinda, and Judy from the Beckie Simmons Agency, the company who books our dates. All these folks play a major role in what we do. More friends, Earl and Scharlene Galloway, came out to be with us for the evening.

This past Thursday night, January 17th, we were in Montgomery, Alabama at the Beacon of Hope Church of God. What a wonderful time we had there.

Then on Friday night, we were with one of gospel music’s best friends and promoters, Bill Bailey, in Fitzgerald, GA at the South Georgia Gospel Sing-Out. Joining Gold City was some of our favorite groups to work with on the road, Triumphant Quartet, Karen Peck and New River, and the Perrys. Obviously, that was a great evening just by the lineup of artists there--and yes, we had ourselves a time!

Saturday, we headed to Saraland, AL to sing for our friends at Wilson Avenue Baptist Church. Now, we're off to New Orleans where we will board a cruise ship for Cozumel, Jamaica and the Grand Caymen Islands as guests of KWFC Radio.

We’re excited to be aboard ship along with several other gospel artist including a reunion of the 1990's Christian Country band White River/Jubilation. God is already blessing Gold City in this first month of 2013 and we are excited to see what He has in store next.

HARMONY HONORS TO FEATURE GOLD CITY

Gold City will be part of a special concert and television taping for TBN at Trinity Music City on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 starting at 7 p.m. The Southern Gospel Music Guild (SGMG) Harmony Honors will be hosting an evening to celebrate some of the great composers of Southern Gospel Music. The event is free to the public and plenty of seating is available. Trinity Music City is located at 1 Music Village Blvd in Hendersonville, TN. The SGMG is an organization of professionals in Southern Gospel Music dedicated to fostering education, awareness, growth and excellence of all things southern gospel in order to increase the visibility and appreciation for this style of music. If you are in or around the Nashville, TN area on Tuesday, January 29th, come be a part of this unique and memorable concert that will feature performances by many of today’s top gospel artists who will assemble to pay tribute to some of today’s most prolific songwriters of the southern gospel genre. We’re excited to be a part of this great event.

CALLING ALL TENORS

Gold City is still searching for a tenor singer. We have some really good prospects so far! If you or someone you know has the vocal ability to sing the high part and you would like to audition, send a demo mp3 and resume via email to tenorauditions@me.com.

DANNY’S FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"One great power of sin is that it blinds men so that they do not recognize its true character." -Andrew Murray

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???

It’s already nearing the end of January. Time is swiftly flying by. Make sure you take time to day to tell your family and friends how much you love them. Most of all, take every opportunity you have to share Jesus with someone. It could be the last opportunity you are given to be a witness for Him. Have a great week!

3. It’s about money. There are about 3,753 abortions every day in the U.S. At an average charge of $300 for each abortion the income is $1,125,900 per day. Planned Parenthood alone received $542 million dollars in government funding/grants in 2012. 4. It’s harming mothers. Abortion has consistently been linked to increases in cases of breast cancer and sexually transmitted diseases. 5. The numbers are astounding. By age 45, one third of all women in the U.S. have had an abortion, and 49 percent have had more than one.

6. Effects of emotional and spiritual loss were never considered in the abortion rule. With 55 million abortions since Roe vs. Wade, if only 1 percent of women regretted the choice—550,000 would need help. Yet statistics tell us that as many as many as 80 percent of women interviewed experience post abortion trauma, and this does not count affected men, families and future children. 8. Abortion affects relationships and marriage. In some studies as many as 70 percent of women interviewed after an abortion did not remain with the father of the child. Mercy's Well On Tour in South Carolina This Weekend

From Mercy's Well email newsletter of January 17, 2013:

Our first three dates of the new year went well! We started with the United Methodist Church in Star, NC on Saturday evening - we had a packed house! Sitting on the front row was our good friend, 5 yr. old Riley Gardner, who is still fighting his battle with cancer. It was so good seeing him, his family, and their entire community!

Sunday morning took us to Simpsonville, SC for our second visit to Westside Church. It had been almost two years since our previous engagement there, and we were excited to share some new music with them. Sunday night was a treat for us, as we were able to share with the Tabernacle UMC family in Lancaster, SC. This is Greg's hometown, but we had never sung in this particular church before. Good promotion by the church and community yielded another packed house! We had a great evening of worship, and ended our first weekend on a high note - both literally and figuratively!

Please remember to keep Brad and Greg in your prayers next week as they represent our group as Artist Ambassadors with Compassion International. They will be flying out early Monday morning, along with 15 other artists/Compassion workers, to Haiti. This trip will provide amazing opportunities to see, firsthand, how Compassion really works to free children from poverty in Jesus' name! Some updates on the trip may be available in next week's newsletter, so stay tuned!

Have a blessed week, and we hope to see you soon!

Greater Vision: From Sea To Shining Sea...Literally

From Greater Vision's email newsletter of January 16, 2013:

We are STILL rolling back to the Southeast, after a fantastic week in Arizona and California! We're scheduled to arrive in Warner Robins, Georgia just in time for sound-check at 2nd Baptist Church!

A very special "thank you" for all the great comments about last Saturday's LIVE webcast from Highland, California! With only a two-hour notice, more than 7,100 people "logged on" at some point during the concert, and more than 1500 people were able to watch the concert from beginning to end! We have received emails and Facebook & Twitter posts from all across the country, and even as far away as New Zealand. Today's technology is really remarkable, and we're very thankful to the wonderful Media Team at Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland, California for making the webcast possible.

Several people who missed the webcast have written to ask why we couldn't give more than two hours of notice about the webcast. We actually sent the email notice and Facebook & Twitter posts as soon as we had confirmation that the webcast was going to happen. Others have asked why we don't make webcasts available more often. The answer is really simple... not many places have the technology available to provide the kind of quality webcast that was available on Saturday. Also, the internet bandwidth required to allow for large numbers of people to "stream" high quality webcasts is costly. The folks at Immanuel Baptist were very kind to take on the task, provide the staffing and Tech Crew, and cover the expense of the webcast, so you could watch it without having to cover the costs. We're pretty sure the folks in Highland were surprised at the large number of people who "logged on" to watch. It would be great if you would consider dropping them a quick email to thank them for providing the webcast, post a thank you note on their Facebook Page.

New Christian Movie Targets Senior Adults

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn., Jan. 15, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Flowers for Fannie," a new faith-based film resonates with seniors and encourages young adults to look at the elderly with a fresh perspective. "This is an amazing story about something that few movie producers address, our seniors," says Phyllis Schaddelee.

"Flowers for Fannie" is the story of Fannie (Patricia Binkley), an elderly widow who masks her loneliness with crankiness and Louise (Brittany Wilharm), an equally lonely young woman who befriends Fannie. "This is a unique story about how we treat one another and the importance of love no matter if you are a relative or not," says Dove Foundation.

"When I found out that this was the lead role, I went, really?" says Ms. Binkley, a 72-year-old retired schoolteacher. But filmmakers Fred and Sharon Wilharm knew that she could relate to Fannie.

"In my life I can relate to death of a loved one or being abandoned or whatever, so I can cry when I think of certain things," says Ms. Binkley.

Other senior cast members include seasoned film actors Roger Eldridge, Jean Reinke, and Lynda Evjen, newcomer Ralph Hollingsworth, and a cameo appearance by the Knifty Knitters.

"Most movies are written for a young male audience, but we feel that older adults deserve a movie they can relate to," says Ms. Wilharm. "And young viewers appreciate it as much as their elders. The humor, music, romantic storylines, and relatable characters appeal to young and old alike and give them a better appreciation of each other."

"It's a humorous film that compels you to look at your life and your future," says CFDb.

"Flowers for Fannie" releases to DVD on February 1, but online viewers can watch a free sneak peek on Saturday, January 26 at 7:00pm CST. The entire movie will be available for online viewing for three hours.

"Our desire is that churches will use 'Flowers for Fannie' as a way to bridge the gap between youth and senior adults," says Ms. Wilharm. "If churches have a dinner and movie night with the youth serving the seniors, it puts into practice the message of the movie. I'd love to see them follow up with an Adopt a Grandparent program."

For more information about the movie or to schedule a screening at your church or senior center visit the website.

BLUEGRASS CELEBRATION CREATED FROM EXISTING AND NEW EVENTS TO LAUNCH JUNE 2013

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY – Inspired by the 40th anniversary of the “Festival of the Bluegrass”, a group of local music, civic and city leaders announced a week-long celebration called “Best Of Bluegrass” – also being referred to affectionately by its acronym - “BOB”.

The new event, to be held June 3-8, will take place at venues all over the Lexington area as well as the traditional location at the Kentucky Horse Park.
An eclectic mix of entities are involved, including the Lexington Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Cornett-IMS, Downtown Lexington Corporation, LAMA, LFUCG, Lextran, Natasha’s, Smiley Pete Publishing, Red Barn Radio, Southland Jamboree, Willie’s and Woodsongs – with even more planned to be announced later this year.

Tom Martin of Lexington Area Musicians Association (LAMA), commented, “Our ultimate aim is to make this an annual celebration uniting existing performance assets within our city --- some that are relatively new and some that have thrived since the 70’s.”

One of those is the Festival of the Bluegrass, created by the Cornett family and carried on today by Roy Cornett and his wife AnnaMarie. “The mission of our festival has been to celebrate Appalachian culture through traditional bluegrass music. But we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of “BOB” and help it grow as well as getting people to our event.”

For the first time ever, through a partnership with Lextran, trolley service will be available from the center of downtown Lexington to the Kentucky Horse Park during the Festival of the Bluegrass.

Jim Browder, President of Lexington’s Convention & Tourism Bureau, feels that BOB could be an exciting lure for regional tourists. “This will bring a wealth of new visitors here, given the popularity of the bluegrass music genre and our region’s already world class allure,” said Browder.

Starting on Monday, June 3 and continuing through June 8, various national and regional bluegrass artists will perform in prominent locales – many in the downtown Lexington area. In addition, BOB will also feature numerous “hands on” workshops with some of the top names in bluegrass music.

“This is a very exciting development for our city from a tourism and economic development perspective,” declared Lexington Mayor Jim Gray. “Our goal is to eventually make our storied bluegrass region the home of the bluegrass industry’s big events – including their two-day convention and awards show.”
