Gold City Quartet email newsletter of January 19, 2013:
WEEKEND REWIND
We met some awesome people the past two weekends while on tour. Our first stop on January 12th was Fort Payne, AL at The Pickin’ Post with promoter Mike Owens. Take it from Gold City, the folks in Fort Payne know how to enjoy southern gospel music. We were greeted by a near capacity crowd and we had ourselves a time. From there, we traveled to Fairdale, KY and worshiped with the folks at Harvest Baptist Church, where we found a warm welcome by the friendly congregation on Sunday morning. To be honest, singing in the morning isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but the folks in Fairdale made that early morning wake-up call worth it.
Our final stop for the weekend was in Nashville, TN. We made our way to Tusculum Hills Baptist Church, where we capped off our trip with a Sunday evening concert for the great folks in Music City on January 13th. It was great to see Ken Harding and all the crew from our record company, NewHaven Records, our radio promoter Jan Puryear, Todd, Melinda, and Judy from the Beckie Simmons Agency, the company who books our dates. All these folks play a major role in what we do. More friends, Earl and Scharlene Galloway, came out to be with us for the evening.
This past Thursday night, January 17th, we were in Montgomery, Alabama at the Beacon of Hope Church of God. What a wonderful time we had there.
Then on Friday night, we were with one of gospel music’s best friends and promoters, Bill Bailey, in Fitzgerald, GA at the South Georgia Gospel Sing-Out. Joining Gold City was some of our favorite groups to work with on the road, Triumphant Quartet, Karen Peck and New River, and the Perrys. Obviously, that was a great evening just by the lineup of artists there--and yes, we had ourselves a time!
Saturday, we headed to Saraland, AL to sing for our friends at Wilson Avenue Baptist Church. Now, we're off to New Orleans where we will board a cruise ship for Cozumel, Jamaica and the Grand Caymen Islands as guests of KWFC Radio.
We’re excited to be aboard ship along with several other gospel artist including a reunion of the 1990's Christian Country band White River/Jubilation. God is already blessing Gold City in this first month of 2013 and we are excited to see what He has in store next.
HARMONY HONORS TO FEATURE GOLD CITY
Gold City will be part of a special concert and television taping for TBN at Trinity Music City on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 starting at 7 p.m. The Southern Gospel Music Guild (SGMG) Harmony Honors will be hosting an evening to celebrate some of the great composers of Southern Gospel Music. The event is free to the public and plenty of seating is available. Trinity Music City is located at 1 Music Village Blvd in Hendersonville, TN. The SGMG is an organization of professionals in Southern Gospel Music dedicated to fostering education, awareness, growth and excellence of all things southern gospel in order to increase the visibility and appreciation for this style of music. If you are in or around the Nashville, TN area on Tuesday, January 29th, come be a part of this unique and memorable concert that will feature performances by many of today’s top gospel artists who will assemble to pay tribute to some of today’s most prolific songwriters of the southern gospel genre. We’re excited to be a part of this great event.
CALLING ALL TENORS
Gold City is still searching for a tenor singer. We have some really good prospects so far! If you or someone you know has the vocal ability to sing the high part and you would like to audition, send a demo mp3 and resume via email to tenorauditions@me.com.
DANNY’S FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"One great power of sin is that it blinds men so that they do not recognize its true character." -Andrew Murray
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???
It’s already nearing the end of January. Time is swiftly flying by. Make sure you take time to day to tell your family and friends how much you love them. Most of all, take every opportunity you have to share Jesus with someone. It could be the last opportunity you are given to be a witness for Him. Have a great week!

Change Is Coming To Gold City
From Gold City's email newsletter of January 7, 2013
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It’s the first Gold City e-newsletter of 2013! We hope your Christmas was memorable and you rang in the new year with those you love the most. After a much needed vacation to spend the holidays with our families, Gold City is now back at it, out on the road, sharing the Good News through best music in the world–Southern Gospel Music!
We celebrated the New Year in Ringgold, GA with Appointed, who made us feel so welcome. We had a wonderful time with these guys. We’ve had several dates with our friend and concert promoter, Bill Bailey, doing concerts in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. The last couple of weeks, we’ve sang with some of our best friends and peers of the industry, Jeff And Sheri Easter, the Kingsmen, Triumphant, Hoppers, and Perrys. You never know what may happen when we’re with our fellow groups in concert. Just one example is Tim Riley gettin’ down on Shoutin’ Time with the Hoppers, much to the delight of the enthusiastic audience. And besides the fun we have on stage, we were guests at the home of Jeff and Sheri the morning of December 29th, following our concert in Bessemer, AL. What more do you need than a good cup of coffee and some great conversation? A trip to a catfish house with all the Easters for lunch. Fun times with great friends! A big thanks to Jeff and Sheri for their generous hospitality! To bring you up to date, we finished up this past weekend in Bagdad, FL and headed the bus for home on Sunday evening, thankful for a safe and exciting first week of another year of getting to tell the story of Jesus.
CHANGE IS COMING TO GOLD CITY
For those who haven’t heard the news, last week Dan Keeton resigned his position as tenor with Gold City. The following is the official press release of his departure and the group’s search for replacement: Gold City formally announces that Dan Keeton will be leaving the group to pursue a longtime dream of working with victims of child abuse. This leaves open the tenor position, and Gold City has begun the search for Dan’s successor. Dan, in an open letter to Gold City fans and friends, says, "Many of you know my testimony of child abuse, the divorce of my parents, and my daddy’s alcoholism. I have recently been given an opportunity to start a non-profit organization using music and arts to inspire child victims of abuse. I am so excited but also heavy-hearted. Opening this door means I will have to leave Gold City. I can honestly say I love the Rileys so much. Tim and Danny are like family to me. Chuck, Bryan, and Jerry are so easy going and fun to be around that I will dearly miss being on the bus with such fine Christian gentlemen. I will always be grateful for my time here, and ask everyone to pray that Gold City finds the best replacement possible and that the transition is a smooth one." Daniel Riley says, "We support Dan 100 percent in this new chapter of his life. We believe God has given him this opportunity to go into this new ministry. Dan has personally dealt with child abuse, and we believe his passion is for helping others in this area. He has our blessing and prayers as he leaves to encourage and enrich the lives of others in this special calling. Dan has agreed to stay on with Gold City and continue his role as our tenor until a replacement can be found." For those interested in applying for the tenor position with Gold City, demos and resumes will be accepted via email form to tenorauditions@me.com.
A LITTLE TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
With Christmas having been celebrated just a few weeks ago, a couple of the guys shared Christmas memories that are definitely worth repeating. Our sound engineer, Chuck Howe, recalls Christmas Eve 1999, when he and his wife, Anjeanette, brought their baby girl, Sydney, home from the hospital. That’s a pretty great Christmas present. But Jerry Pelfrey’s favorite memories are a bit different. He shares, " I’ll never forget finding my drum set in my dad’s closet two days before Christmas when I was ten. But one of the funniest memories was when I was in 8th grade. My sister was dating this guy, and his mother sent us all presents from Texas. We were home alone one night and bored, so we steamed open all the packages. They were jogging suits. So, we mixed them all up and re-wrapped them. We got into so much trouble on Christmas morning, because his mother made a surprise visit!"
DATES TO REMEMBER
We have some special events coming up that we want to make sure you know about. This Saturday, January 12th, we’ll be in Fort Payne, AL at The Pickin’ Post theater. Next weekend, it’s a big concert on Friday, January 18th at the Grand Theater in Fitzgerald, GA with our friends Triumphant Quartet, Perrys, and Karen Peck and New River. On January 29th, we’re headed to Trinity Music City in Nashville, TN for a special concert event. Then, Tuesday, February 5th, the Manatee Convention Center in Palmetto, FL is the place to be for a huge night of gospel music during the week-long Winter Gospel Music Convention. The night we’re there, we will share the stage with The Freemans, Tony Gore, Jeff and Sheri Easter, and the Mark Trammell Quartet. We’d love to see you at these or any other of our concerts. Check out all the details of our full schedule at www.goldcityqt.com.
DANNY’S FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“I do not advise that we end the year on a somber note. The march, not the dirge, has ever been the music of Christianity. If we are good students in the school of life, there is much that the years have to teach us. But the Christian is more than a student, more than a philosopher. He is a believer, and the object of his faith makes the difference, the mighty difference. Of all persons the Christian should be best prepared for whatever the New Year brings. He has dealt with life at its source. In Christ he has disposed of a thousand enemies that other men must face alone and unprepared. He can face his tomorrow cheerful and unafraid because yesterday he turned his feet into the ways of peace and today he lives in God. The man who has made God his dwelling place will always have a safe habitation.” -A.W. Tozer
WHY DON’T YOU EVER COME TO OUR AREA?
That’s a question Gold City gets asked frequently. And the honest answer is because we’ve not received an invitation. So, if you know of a church or concert promoter, let them know you want Gold City to perform at their next event and then have them contact our booking agency at www.bsaworld.com. It’s as easy as that. We hope to see you in concert in your area very soon!

Gold City News
From Gold City's Email Newsletter September 26, 2012
WEEKEND REWIND
WOW!! It’s been a busy two weeks on the Gold City bus. We have a lot to catch up on. We’ve been in Canada, New York, and of course Kentucky for the great National Quartet Convention. And what an awesome week it was at NQC! We were privileged to sing three times on the main stage, in addition to several other activities during the week. Wednesday night was All-Quartet Night and Gold City was honored to sing your fan-voted favorites!! It is no surprise that our signature song, Midnight Cry, was the most chosen, even after 25 years. And if that weren’t enough, we were honored on the main stage for having number one songs in each of the past four decades. We were presented a plaque for that, as well as one for commemorating the 25th anniversary of the recording of Midnight Cry. Aside from the stage, we had so much fun meeting all of you who came by the table. Your support means everything to us! After convention, we headed off for a Sunday morning in Signal Mountain, TN before making our way back home for a much needed rest. This past weekend found us in Georgia for two great concerts. We may be partial, but we think Gold City fans are the best fans of any group anywhere, and you continue to prove that by coming out to see us. Thank you so much for supporting and being a part of what we do.

Dan Keeton Joins Gold City

An Open Letter from Gold City:
Brent Mitchell has decided to come off the road. As many of you know, Brent and Heather welcomed a new baby girl, Paislee, back in January. Brent says, "My 3 month old daughter, Paislee, has been very sick for the past few weeks and I feel I need to be with my family at this time. Family has always come first in my life, but I am so sad to leave my dream job. I did not think it was fair to Gold City for me to hold them back not knowing the future health of my little girl. Please pray for my family and for Paislee, that she will get through whatever her little body is going through right now. I will miss GC and cherish the little time I had there!"
Daniel Riley says, "We will miss Brent. During his time here we have grown to love him. He will always be a part of the Gold City family. I know this was a very hard decision for him, but I admire him for making the right decision."
Filling the tenor position is Dan Keeton. In an open letter to his friends, Dan shares,
"When I was 16 years old, I began singing with my first Gospel Quartet. I had already been through a childhood of pain and heartache. I had to grow up really fast. But, Grandma's box of Gospel Music and the music I heard on the radio, gave me some real heroes to look up to. I heard on the radio that the Gold City Quartet was coming to Beaver Dam, KY. That was only 25 minutes away!
I had just bought my first car, a green and rust Plymouth Volare'. I filled up with gas, bought a Coke and headed off to Beaver Dam. I got to the church 4 hours early! I waited in the parking lot for Gold City to arrive in the bus. I waited but, when they had not arrived after 30 minutes, I decided I needed another Coke.
I started driving down the road toward the corner store and coming toward the church was the big bus. I whipped her around, pulled in behind the bus and jumped out to meet The Gold City Quartet. Off they came; Brian Free, Ivan Parker, Gary Jones, Mike LeFevre and the man, Tim Riley!
The music, the band, the voices and the message I heard that very night removed all doubt. I prayed all the way home that God would allow me to sing with a quartet "just like" that one. It might take 26 years, or it might not be exactly what you asked for but, God does answer your prayers."
We are thrilled that Dan has accepted the tenor position and look forward to introducing him to our friends!
