Wilburn and Wilburn Releases Concept Video As They Also Issue A 30-Day Challenge

Nashville, TN (September 2, 2014) Dynamic vocal duo Wilburn and Wilburn have had their hands full as of late, in front of the camera and also in taking a stand.

Wilburn and Wilburn – a Daywind Records recording artist consisting of Jonathan Wilburn and his son Jordan Wilburn – have released a concept video for their song “Help Me Help Someone,” which is on Wilburn and Wilburn’s latest project, “Here Comes Sunday.” The song was a collaborative effort, penned by award-winning songwriter Jimmy Yeary, Country Music personality Cledus T. Judd and Gary LeVox, the lead vocalist of Country Music recording artist Rascal Flatts.

Wilburn and Wilburn has been singing powerful songs since they began touring in March of 2011. When “Help Me Help Someone” was released to radio, it grabbed the attention of Compassion International and film maker David Altizer.

“We knew we wanted people to hear the message of this song and for the audience to know that they can make a difference,” Jonathan Wilburn explains. “We want to help folks in need domestically and internationally, and we found a partner that is willing to help us achieve that goal. We challenge everyone who hears this message to evaluate whether they can help just one person today. Compassion has been gracious enough to help us with our vision and in helping us to release this music video.”

Filming for the video recently took place atop the Fifth Third building, a skyscraper in Nashville, Tenn.

“When this plan started unfolding, we wanted to have an impact with people watching the video at home and engage them enough to where they will want to take action,” Daywind Records vice president and A & R director Scott Godsey – who served as the producer of the video – shares. “There are a lot of hurting people in the world, and this song talks about the body of Christ helping those folks. The line in the song that says, ‘we can all make a difference, and it starts with me’ ... it is our hope that those words will passionately speak to all of us as we count our innumerable blessings today. It was thoroughly enjoyable working with Compassion and with director David Altizer.”

In addition to Compassion assisting Wilburn and Wilburn with the creation of the video, Wilburn and Wilburn have also become Compassion representatives.

However, Wilburn and Wilburn are not stopping there. They are also issuing a 30-day challenge to both themselves and everyone around them to go above and beyond, a mission to help one person each day for 30 consecutive days. The daily “help” can be as simple as assisting an elderly person with their groceries or a commitment to sponsor a child through an organization such as Compassion International.

Wilburn and Wilburn have been long-time supporters of various charities, and with there continuing to be both foreign and domestic needs, they believe that the Lord can use us all if we simply allow him to do so. The partnership that Wilburn and Wilburn has developed with Compassion will allow their audience to have an opportunity to help children who are much less fortunate. While meeting the tangible needs of those children, Compassion also shares the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Retro SGM Radio: Love Revolutionaries: Hearts of Faith Find Compassion

[Editor's Note: This SGM Radio feature was published October 2009 and written by Lorraine Walker.]

When Jesus walked this earth, He showed His love to those around Him in revolutionary ways. He touched the unclean, He forgave the condemned and He loved the unlovable. Today, ordinary people like you and me are reaching out with the same kind of revolutionary love to the helpless, the hopeless and the lost.
Hearts of Faith have been showing Revolutionary Love by adopting children through Compassion International. The website, www.compassion.com , states: “Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.” Donna Strong and Brenda Messaros of Hearts of Faith truly believe in the mission statement of this worldwide organization.
“There are a good many organizations that deal with children,” says Donna Strong. “Compassion truly has a heart for the kids, in that over 83% of the monies given actually go directly to the child. They partner with churches in the countries so that local people are able to support the kids. They don’t just have the funds deposited somewhere. They are very hands-on and we really like that!”
Strong continues, “Prior to my husband and I getting married in 1990, Keith had attended a concert where a Compassion presentation was given. He decided to begin sponsoring a child and then he linked up with Compassion to become a volunteer to go to churches and speak on Compassion. We were working for the same company and he came to our church to give a presentation. It was at that time that I began sponsoring a little girl in Haiti. Of course, she has since graduated out of the program.
I've honestly lost count of how many children we've sponsored through the years. Between Brenda’s family, and us, there are six children currently sponsored. We'd love to be able to sponsor all of them because the poverty that these children live in on a daily basis is truly horrific. I think most people in America would be appalled to have to live in those conditions for even one day.”
The Strongs have sponsored children in Thailand and Haiti. Keith Strong, Donna’s husband, shares his experiences of visiting the homelands of children they have sponsored over the years.
“I visited two boys in Rwanda back in 1987, my first trip, and I visited the girl Donna and I sponsored when I visited India in 1995. In the projects where my kids were, there was a church and a school at the center of it serving the children and their families. In the midst of much poverty, it was great to see the smiling faces of the children and their enthusiasm because they have been shown the love of God and of their sponsors. They have a chance to have a better future.
“Kanzeguakwa was the first child I sponsored, and I took a trip to Rwanda specifically to visit him. I started sponsoring Hakizimana during the planning stage of that trip, so I visited him also. Theirs was a world unknown to us in the developed West. Mud houses, no shoes, lots of kids and lots of poverty. The Compassion projects were impressive, and the kids were obviously benefiting from their involvement. The families were grateful beyond words for the sponsorship of their sons.
“Kanzeguakwa's father was very frail and old-looking. He had some cash with him and wanted to give it to me as a gift of appreciation, as he had little else to give. I did some fast-talking and managed to keep him from parting with his money while still knowing I appreciated and accepted the gesture.
“Visiting Kamala Devi Thoguru, our girl in India, was an especially memorable. I had sponsored her right at the beginning as she entered the program at six years old. She was 15 when I visited her. Since our son was only two months old I hadn't been a parent very long, but when I met Kamala, it was like ‘instant daughter’. She was able to speak English well enough that we could communicate pretty well, making the visit all the more memorable. I got to visit her home, along with her mother, brother, and sister. During the visit, she started showing me things around the house: dishes, furniture, a small set of luggage; apparently all of it was purchased with the birthday and Christmas gifts I had sent her. She kept saying, ‘I'm so happy!’ The trip was touching beyond words.
I was able to extend her sponsorship past the normal graduating level of 10th grade, which was that year, and sponsored her for 2 more high school years and 4 years of nursing school. She is 29 years old now. I have lost contact with her, but I expect she is married and maybe has a family of her own.”
It is obvious that the adoption of children through Compassion has been a very personal and rewarding experience for the Strongs. They believe in the organization and what it has accomplished.
“I have been sponsoring at least one child at a time since the beginning of 1985,”says Keith. “I have seen several projects in Kenya and Rwanda, as well as the Holy Cross English Medium School in Nandyal, India. So you could say I put my money where my mouth is. I trust and respect the organization, and have seen the great work they do.”
Donna Strong, as a member of a popular and very busy gospel duet, has not been able to visit the homelands of her adopted children. However, she feels very connected with them. She knows that not everyone can go; some must send and help through the funds they sacrifice from a paycheque that needs to stretch farther in this economy.
“Sponsoring a child through Compassion is such a wonderful experience,” says Donna. “Knowing that your financial support provides meals, clothing, schooling, and most of all, hearing about Jesus Christ. Sponsors receive letters from the child and will really get to know the child as his or her own. Pictures can be shared and life lessons can be taught, simply by writing to the child. These days, this can even be done by e-mail, which gives many busy folks a chance to stay in touch with the child even if they don’t enjoy writing.
“Sponsors may also send support for birthdays and Christmas. If sponsors are able, Compassion can set up trips to visit the child. There is no specific requirement; it all depends on how involved someone wishes to become. But keeping in periodic contact is definitely encouraged.”
“We believe we are fulfilling the Great Commission by doing for those who have no other means of escape,” says Donna. “Each child is a creation of God and He loves those children more than we can imagine. We need to be His hands and His feet, sharing His love with those who have not heard.
“To date, we've seen 21 children sponsored through our ministry. We are so excited for each one! It means a child will have an opportunity to not only receive what we take for granted but also see first hand the love of Jesus in action. That not only changes a life now, but for all eternity!”
Hearts of Faith have a strong desire on their hearts to see lives changed in their land as well. Since 2001, they have traveled as one of the few female duets in Southern Gospel, criss-crossing the United States to fulfill 70 dates every year. “We could travel more extensively,” says Strong. “However, we both have children still at home and firmly believe God has also called us to be good moms and wives. Quite honestly, if our families are not intact, we can't truly be good ministers to others.”
The duet’s love for families and children shines through in their music as well. They recently recorded a concept video entitled, “Susie’s Eyes”, that won Video of the Year at the 2009 Diamond Awards.
Donna Strong shares how the video came to be recorded. “’Susie's Eyes’ is an incredible song written by Kenny Webb of Chattanooga, TN. He brought the song to us in 2003 and felt that we were the ones to record it. It wasn't until 2006 that it really fit a project we were putting together. Even when we were recording the song, we wanted to do a concept video of the song so that people would realize how truly blessed each one of us is.
“While attending SINGING IN THE SUN in 2008, we met Kayla-Elise the last night of the convention. At that time, we didn't think about the concept video; however, her mother e-mailed the next week to say that their entire three-and-a-half hour drive home was filled with only one song, over and over: ‘Susie's Eyes’. Kayla-Elise knew every word. We knew Kayla was to be our Susie.
“What's so incredible is that Kayla truly does exemplify what Susie is in the song. And we were so thrilled that the video production team allowed her voice to also be heard in the video. We hope that those who see this video will realize that although life may throw a curve every now and then, God still blesses us in so many ways. And we, here in America, are blessed so abundantly.
“We didn't market the video heavily because we really didn't have the funds for marketing. So we simply mailed the video to a few TV stations and prayed that God would use it for His glory. When it made Top 10 on the Diamond Award ballot, we were so thrilled. When our name was called for it winning the Video of the Year, we were almost speechless. Brenda's hands were shaking the entire time during the acceptance speech and for several minutes afterwards.
Strong continues, “I think it's so awesome that one song can do so much to touch people's hearts. Many times, we don't realize what one word of encouragement, one smile, or one touch can do to change the direction of a life.”
Hearts of Faith are truly exemplifying the love of Christ by touching lives at home with their music and abroad with their support. As Jesus reached out to gather the children to Himself, this duet is reaching out to children and adults alike with the love of their Heavenly Father. And that makes these ladies “Love Revolutionaries”.

Gold City's Daniel Riley expresses, "Christmas truly is the season for giving, and it all started when God gave us the gift of salvation through His Son, as a baby born in a manger. I look at my beautiful family, my wife and two daughters, and think how incredibly blessed I am. I am excited to be embarking on a tour that will allow us all to celebrate Christmas, count our blessings, and, also, provide meaningful support to precious children, who so desperately need it, through the powerful ministry of Compassion International. This really is the season of compassion. When Jesus Christ came to earth--it was with the compassion of a pure and holy God for his children. We hope to share in the joy of that HOPE with you on the Voice Of Hope tour this December."

Zane King, of Compassion shares, "We are blessed to have such wonderful artists headed out to share the JOY of Christmas and to be a voice for the least of these, those in extreme poverty around the world. Mercy's Well and Compassion International: Buy A Tent For Ashley In Haiti

From Mercy's Well email newsletter of February 21, 2013:

Occasionally, we make mistakes...actually we make them quite often! But...we wanted to take a moment and correct some information from our newsletter earlier this morning.

In talking about our involvement with Compassion International and our recent missions trip to Haiti, we reported that the goal had been met to purchase a new tent for Ashlee (our newly sponsored child in Haiti) and her family. That information is INCORRECT, so let me clarify.

After sharing about our trip, some wonderful friends in Florida felt led to collect money from their Sunday School class to purchase three water filtration systems through Compassion's Water Of Life program. On a separate note, Greg mentioned on Facebook after our trip of a need for a tent for Ashlee's family.

We ARE still accepting donations for the "tent" project for her family and we are over half way to our goal. If you wish to help, there's still time. We will be making a donation through Compassion for this family and 100% of the money received will be used to purchase the tent and make repairs. No administrative costs are taken out of these type gifts with Compassion. If you wish to help, you can send a donation through PayPal to: brad@mercyswell.com

Or you can mail a check to:

Mercy's Well
5603-B West Friendly Ave., PMB 272
Greensboro, NC 27410

Make checks payable to Mercy's Well (include "ASHLEE" in the memo line) and we will be sending one payment directly to Compassion. This is the only way we can make sure these dollars go directly to our newly sponsored child and her family. For peace of mind and transparency, we will provide each donor with a detailed statement of how their money was used.

We apologize for any confusion. Hopefully we will see each of you at a concert or worship service very soon!

Blessings,

Brad Strider

Seven-state Christmas tour begins this weekend

Critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter Peder Eide will launch his 14th annual Christmas tour this weekend.  The 16-show tour entitled “Live Like Christmas” will take Eide and his band (pictured right) to seven different states, including Wisconsin, North Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Michigan and culminating Christmas Eve in Colorado.  Eide will be singing songs from his two critically-acclaimed Christmas CDs, Perfect Surprise and Christmas: Come On In.  When it was released two years ago, Perfect Surprise was chosen as a favorite Christmas CD by USA Today.

Peder will be joined by special guest, comedian Daren Streblow, at the December 14 concert in Fargo, North Dakota.  Eide and Streblow recently teamed up to record a parody tune called “The Donut Song” set to the music of “Sleigh Ride.”  Eide will join Streblow on his new syndicated radio show releasing in late December.

Eide just released his 14th studio recording entitled Rescue and is donating a portion of the proceeds of the sale of the CD to the Highly Vulnerable Children’s Fund via Compassion International.  The fund is specifically for children who have been orphaned or have severely ill parents, as well as for kids who are at high risk for exploitation or abuse.  Eide has been a Compassion artist for over 14 years, acquiring thousands of sponsors for the non-profit organization.

In addition to his contributions to Compassion, Eide is an adoption advocate, having adopted two orphans into his own family from overseas.  Eide and wife Sherri adopted their daughter Makenzie from Korea in 2004.  Then, four years later, they brought home a little boy named Teshome from Ethiopia.  Along with their older children -- 15-year-old Taylor, 11-year-old Allison and 10-year-old Ethan-- the Eides are clear that their decision to adopt was one of the "best decisions" they ever made.

Eide regularly performs for over 100,000 people each year, having played main stages at music festivals such as Sonshine (MN), Kingdom Bound (NY), Lifest (WI), LifeLight (SD) and Spirit West Coast (CA). He has shared the stage with artists such as the MercyMe, Jeremy Camp, TobyMac, Hawk Nelson, Third Day, among others.

Eide's original "Taste Worship" events continue to be scheduled year-round at various churches and conferences.  It is geared toward bringing parents together with their tweens and teenagers in an interactive worship environment.  Coupling music with teaching, Eide offers families practical "ingredients" to create a worship-filled lifestyle.

Eide has been featured on several national television shows and radio programs including The 700 Club program on CBN, FamilyNet, Daystar network, LeSea network, Cornerstone television, and Focus on the Family’s Weekend Magazine radio show. Eide has been involved with groups such as Youth Ministry Network, Youth Unlimited, Navigators, Youth for Christ, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Youth Encounter, and other events. Eide has been honored by the Minnesota Jaycees as one of their prestigious "Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans."
