Southern Plainsmen Named Gospel Gold Artist of the Year at 2011 Harvest Music Festival

HORNBECK, La. – (November 28, 2011) – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen were recently honored 2011 Harvest Music Festival. The group was named the 2011 “Gospel Gold Artist of the Year.”

“God has given us many wonderful and humbling gifts this year, including this new award,” mentioned Marcelle Slaughter of the Southern Plainsmen. “We have to give special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for us. We are truly honored by this wonderful gift that you have given us.”

The “Gospel Gold Artist of the Year” Award was handed out as a part of the Harvest Music Festival which was held this past November 10-12, 2011 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at the Music Road Hotel and Convention Center.

In addition to this award, the Southern Plainsmen Quartet were recently inducted into the North Louisiana Gospel Music Hall of Fame. On Friday evening, October 21, 2011, the Southern Plainsmen received this career high at the induction ceremony, which took place at The Pentecostals of the Twin Cities in West Monroe, Louisiana.

Southern Plainsmen Inducted into North Louisiana Gospel Music Hall of Fame

HORNBECK, La. – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen were recently inducted into the North Louisiana Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

On Friday evening, October 21, 2011, the Southern Plainsmen received this career high at the induction ceremony, which took place at The Pentecostals of the Twin Cities in West Monroe, Louisiana.

“This was such a huge honor for us,” mentioned the Southern Plainsmen’s Marcelle Slaughter. “We’ve been at this for a long time, and while we have never been in this for awards or accolades, we can’t help but be humbled by the graciousness of our peers.”

In addition to the Southern Plainsmen, other artists inducted into the North Louisiana Gospel Music Hall of Fame this year included Glory Road Quartet, The Picketts, Sisters 4, Kingdom Bound, and many more.

“We truly are honored to be represented with other such great artists and ministers,” continued Marcelle. “We respect so many of the other artists that were represented there that night. It really just made the night so much more sweeter to be there among such great friends!”

West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet is honored to be nominated for the Harvest Music Festival’s “Gospel Gold Artist of the Year.”

“We are so humbled by this organization’s recognition of our group,” mentioned Southern Plainsmen’s Marcelle Slaughter. “We are excited to be a part of the event, and can’t wait to meet all kinds of new people!”

Southern Plainsmen Quartet Honored by Southern Texas Gospel Music Association



HORNBECK, La. – (May 24, 2011) – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet were recently honored by the South Texas Gospel Music Association (STGMA) at the organization’s annual event.

The Southern Plainsmen were named this year’s Group of the Year. In addition, baritone vocalist Allen Doyle was named the 2011 Male Vocalist of the Year.

Marcelle Slaughter of the Southern Plainsmen Quartet said, “We are so honored to have received this awards by such a great organization. The STGMA is a fantastic organization, and we are trilled that they would honor us in such a manner.

The STGMA strives to enlist singing groups, musicians, churches, and other supporters of gospel music into working together in one accord. STGMA invites churches to begin hosting concerts and asking those who do have regular singings to have at least one more--during the year. STGMA assists performing members in securing concert dates at churches and promotes the music ministries of STGMA members. Southern Plainsmen Quartet Lead Worship at Set Free Event



HORNBECK, La. – (April 4, 2011) – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet lead worship last night at The Fellowship at First Baptist Church Logansport’s Set Free 2011 event.

“We were honored to be a part of such a wonderful series of revival services,” mentioned Marcelle Slaughter of the Southern Plainsmen Quartet. “These services are making a great impact on the community, and we know that God did some awesome things last night!”

Hosted by First Baptist Church Logansport, Set Free 2011 features guest speaker David Burk, who will help attendees identify areas of bondage, encounter the truth of the Bible and be set free from the chains that bind them.

A different music group will lead worship each evening. On Sunday, Testify lead in worship, while Monday featured the Southern Plainsmen. Tuesday’s worship will be led by Steve Hess and Southern Salvation, and Wednesday’s experience features Phase 5 from East Texas Baptist University.

Guest speaker David Burk is president and founder of Total Surrender Evangelical Association, Inc. He has traveled to every state and 51 countries to speak at various events and venues. Burk is a graduate of Dallas Baptist University and is completing work towards an executive MBA through Grand
Canyon University.

In case of inclement weather, Set Free 2011 will be held in the gymnasium at First Baptist Church Logansport.

Southern Plainsmen Quartet to Host An Evening with Gold City This Weekend





HORNBECK, La. – (February 28, 2011) – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet are excited to host an evening with multi-award winning quartet Gold City this weekend.

Marcelle Slaughter of the Southern Plainsmen Quartet said, “We have all been huge fans of Gold City for years, and we are so excited to be able to host them this weekend in West Central Louisiana.”

The Southern Plainsmen Quartet will host Gold City this Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Florien High School Auditorium in Florien, Louisiana. The concert will start at 6:30 p.m. There are no tickets, however a $10.00 donation is suggested at the door. A love offering will also be taken for the group.

“We count it an honor to bring great Southern Gospel music to this area,” continued Slaughter. “Gold City is the best of the best, and we know that the people who come out to our concerts will enjoy the group as much as we do.”

Southern Plainsmen Quartet Bring Southern Flavor to Louisiana IceGators Game Jan21




HORNBECK, La. – (January 21, 2011) – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet will be performing the National Anthem at the Louisiana IceGator’s game against the Mississippi Surge tonight, January 21, 2011.

Marcelle Slaughter said, “We are so excited about performing the National Anthem for such a great team and organization. Any time that we are given an opportunity like this, we can’t help but be excited! We love to take our brand of Southern Gospel to every area that the Lord leads us!”

The Louisiana IceGators are a part of the Southern Professional Hockey League. This organization began playing in the 2009-10 season. Like the original IceGators (1995-2005), the group is based out of Lafayette, Louisiana.

“This is a great opportunity for our group, and we’re honored that this organization asked us to be a part of it,” responded Slaughter.

The game will take place at the Gator Dome in LaFayette, Louisiana beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Southern Plainsmen Quartet To Host “A Night of Inspiration” Concert


HORNBECK, La. – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet will be hosting “A Night of Inspiration” concert. The special concert event will feature the Southern Plainsmen Quartet with very special guests The Inspirations.

The “A Night of Inspiration” concert will take place on Friday evening, April 9, 2010 in Florien, Louisiana. The special event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will take place at the Florien High School.

Marcelle Slaughter of the Southern Plainsmen Quartet said, “We have all been long time fans of The Inspirations and believe in the ministry of this fantastic group of Christian gentlemen. This will be an unforgettable evening of worship and ministry, and we hope that everyone who can come out will.”

HORNBECK, La. – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet are excited to announce their recent partnership with humanitarian organization World Vision. The Southern Plainsmen Quartet are now artist advocates for the organization – spreading the word at concerts, churches, and various other dates that the quartet may perform at.
