HORNBECK, La. – (May 24, 2011) – West-Central Louisiana’s Southern Plainsmen Quartet were recently honored by the South Texas Gospel Music Association (STGMA) at the organization’s annual event.
The Southern Plainsmen were named this year’s Group of the Year. In addition, baritone vocalist Allen Doyle was named the 2011 Male Vocalist of the Year.
Marcelle Slaughter of the Southern Plainsmen Quartet said, “We are so honored to have received this awards by such a great organization. The STGMA is a fantastic organization, and we are trilled that they would honor us in such a manner.
The STGMA strives to enlist singing groups, musicians, churches, and other supporters of gospel music into working together in one accord. STGMA invites churches to begin hosting concerts and asking those who do have regular singings to have at least one more--during the year. STGMA assists performing members in securing concert dates at churches and promotes the music ministries of STGMA members. The Southern Plainsmen recently announced their partnership with humanitarian organization World Vision. The Southern Plainsmen Quartet are now artist advocates for the organization – spreading the word at concerts, churches, and various other dates that the quartet may perform at.

About the Southern Plainsmen Quartet
The Southern Plainsmen Quartet was organized in May 1978 in the rolling pine-hills of West-Central Louisiana, and is an outreach of the Southern Plainsmen Ministries, Inc., a non-profit Christian organization. The group has released 20 recordings in its impressive 30 years history. The group currently consists of Marcelle Slaughter, Jordan Mothershed, Allen Doyle, Mike Burkhalter, and Aaron Allen.
