Gleaning For The World Delivers Humanitarian Aid to the Storm-Ravaged South

LYNCHBURG, Va -- Jonathan Falwell, Senior Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church and the Chairman of Gleaning For The World, responded to the victims of the April tornadoes that killed hundreds of people and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses throughout the South. Through the Gleaning For The World humanitarian organization (Concord, VA) and its Faith Aid Network of 50 distribution sites, more than 40 tractor-trailers loaded with critical supplies were sent to the region during the month.

"More than 1.4 million pounds of supplies were delivered to the victims of the April storms," stated Jonathan Falwell. "Our team did an excellent job coordinating with other nonprofits and local churches in the region to quickly distribute the supplies to those who needed them most."

Several severe storms hit Virginia and North Carolina in mid-April, followed by the devastating tornadoes that tore through Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee at the end of the month. More than 300 lives were lost and 240,000 Americans have been impacted by these storms.

"We were quick to respond to the immediate needs, but for the people who have lost everything they own, it will take them a long time to get back on their feet," added Falwell. "So, we must continue to work with our partners in the region in order to provide as much support as possible. It is in times like these that we demonstrate the love of Christ to the hurting."
