CHARLOTTE, N.C. – July 29, 2014 – Alex and Stephen Kendrick—creators of hit faith films FIREPROOF and COURAGEOUS—have just wrapped principal photography on their anticipated fifth movie—a family drama with humor and heart focused on the power of prayer and its primary role in the Christian life.

“We made this film to inspire, challenge and motivate families to fight the right kind of battles and to fight them the best way possible,” said Director and Co-Writer Alex Kendrick. “We have plans for everything—careers, finances, health. But what about a strategy for prayer for our lives, our spouses and our children?”

The Kendricks’ fifth film is their first project independent of Sherwood Pictures, the movie ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church. Pre-production began in 2013 with the blessing and support of the Sherwood family, where they remain associate pastors.

“Sherwood is still our church home, and we’re here talking to you now only because Michael Catt, our pastor, took a risk, supported us and let us make a movie,” Alex Kendrick said.

Provident Films and AFFIRM Films partnered with the brothers to distribute their fifth movie.

The film features New York Times best-selling author and Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer in her film debut.

“I'm honored to be working with the Kendricks, and to be part of a story that encourages people to pray,” Shirer said. “Prayer is the most powerful weapon the church has to unlock the activity of heaven on earth.”

Filmed in and around Charlotte, N.C., this is the first Kendrick Brothers project shot outside their hometown of Albany, Ga. It drew more than 1,000 volunteers from 85 churches in the Charlotte area who stepped up and reached across denominational lines to support the production.

In addition to Shirer, the cast of the Kendricks’ latest movie includes T.C. Stallings (COURAGEOUS), Alex Kendrick (MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, COURAGEOUS), Robert Amaya (MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, COURAGEOUS) and veteran actress Karen Abercrombie (MY NAME IS PAUL, MOUNTAIN TOP). It introduces film newcomers comedian Michael Jr. as Michael and Alena Pitts as Danielle, and features a cameo by renown speaker Beth Moore in her first acting role.

“It's time for fierceness in prayer, and I cannot think of a more crucial message for a movie to convey,” Moore said. “God waits to see a generation that will take Him at His Word. Let's be that generation.”

“We’re going after something here that could radically improve our culture, and moviegoers will experience it within the context of an inspiring and emotional story,” Producer and Co-Writer Stephen Kendrick said. “Prayer is so much more than people realize. It can powerfully affect every problem and need in our lives if engaged from within a vibrant relationship with God.”

SYNOPSISA family-friendly drama, the film is about learning to fight the right kinds of battles. Filled with humor, wit and heart, it follows Tony and Elizabeth Jordan, a middle-class couple, and their daughter, Danielle, as they struggle through personal, marital and spiritual issues. Their lives are forever changed after Elizabeth meets an elderly widow who helps her develop a secret prayer room in her home.

PRAYER IS FREQUENT . . . AT HOMEEach Kendrick Brothers film explores a subject deeply important to Christians and the Christian life: personal integrity in FLYWHEEL, resilient faith in FACING THE GIANTS, loving marriages in FIREPROOF and heroic parenting in COURAGEOUS.

This film’s focus on prayer strategically highlights a subject of interest to a majority of Americans. According to a National Opinion Research Center survey on frequency of prayer, nearly 90 percent of Americans claim to pray regularly. Some 60 percent say they pray at least once a day—for Christians, that number grows to 84 percent, according to a U.S. News and Beliefnet online poll. Almost 80 percent of American Christians say they pray most often at home.

Devote a year to unconditionally love your spouse, the Kendrick's dare you

FROM ALEX AND STEPHEN KENDRICK: A LIFE-CHANGING YEAR FOR COUPLES

'THE LOVE DARE DAY BY DAY'

BHPublishingGroup.com

NASHVILLE – Aug. 7, 2013 – A yearlong journey helping couples transform and deepen their marriages, The Love Dare Day by Day, releases in padded hardback Sept. 1. From groundbreaking filmmakers and best-selling authors Stephen and Alex Kendrick, the new release of The Love Dare Day by Day from B&H Publishing Group also links readers to a free online marriage evaluation resource.

“You’re about to learn more about yourself and your marriage—some of it encouraging, some convicting,” Alex Kendrick tells readers. “In either case, you gain a new view of where you are with your marriage and with God.”

The Love Dare Day by Day—A Year of Devotion for Couples joins the international phenomenon of The Love Dare, with nearly 6 million copies sold. (See Lovell-Fairchild.com for The Love Dare’s remarkable history.) In The Love Dare Day by Day, 52 biblically based “dares”—one each week—challenge married partners to unconditional love. Daily devotions amplify each dare’s scriptural base.

“Our marriages reveal our need to grow and deal with our own issues and selfishness,” Stephen Kendrick said. “But if we are teachable, we can learn the single most important lesson in life—to love. One powerful union, our marriage, invites us to learn to love another imperfect person unconditionally. It’s wonderful, it’s difficult and it’s life-changing.”

The Love Dare Day by Day features:

365 readings on aspects of genuine love
52 weekly dares to help readers better live out their love in marriage
Dozens of prayers spouses can pray for themselves and their partners
Questions to spur creative thinking about your marriage
More than 100 “Go Deeper” sections for personal Bible study on marriage and love
A link to a free online marriage evaluation resource
The Love Dare Day by Day is for one or both spouses. Each week’s “dare” ranges from focused prayer to specific ways spouses can build each other up. A few examples:

“Begin praying this week: ‘Lord, teach me what real love is and make me a loving person.’”
“Make a list of positive attributes about your spouse, then choose one each day and thank your spouse for having this characteristic.”
“Ask your spouse if you can begin praying together. Use this time to commit your concerns, disagreements and needs before the Lord. Don’t forget to thank Him for His provisions and blessings.”
Simple? Yes. Easy? Rarely. But practical, doable and potentially life-changing. The Love Dare Day by Day—A Year of Devotions for Couples can lead to new marriages with the same partners.

Brothers, pastors, filmmakers and authors, Alex and Stephen Kendrick co-wrote the international bestsellers The Love Dare, The Love Dare for Parents and The Resolution for Men. They are among the co-founders of Sherwood Pictures and worked together to write and produce the hit Christian films FLYWHEEL, FACING THE GIANTS, FIREPROOF and COURAGEOUS. Kendrick Brothers Productions is expanding their movie productions with renewed focus on encouraging and equipping the next generation of Christian filmmakers (kendrickbrothers.com). Alex and Stephen continue to serve on the pastoral staff of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga.

The Erwin Brothers Wrap Filming on New Family Comedy 'Moms' Night Out'

Kevin Downes Production Features Sarah Drew, Sean Astin,Patricia Heaton, Alex Kendrick and Trace Adkins
IT COULDN’T GET WORSE . . . COULD IT?
In MOMS’ NIGHT OUT—a fast-paced, family comedy—four moms and a beleaguered cabbie discover in love, marriage and parenting, it can all go wrong . . . and still turn out right. (From right: Sarah Drew, Abbie Cobb, Patricia Heaton, Andrea Logan White and David Hunt)

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – June 24, 2013 – Principal photography has wrapped on MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, the hilarious family comedy produced by Kevin Downes to be distributed by AFFIRM Films and Provident Films. A film that celebrates real family life—where everything can go wrong and still turn out all right.

“We wanted to make a film that the whole family could enjoy,” said Downes, who also acts in the movie.

In the film, all Allyson and her friends want is a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and conversation . . . a long-needed moms’ night out. But in order to enjoy high heels, adult conversation and food not served in a bag, they need their husbands to watch the kids for a few hours—what could go wrong? MOMS’ NIGHT OUT is an endearing, true-to-life family comedy.

“I feel like everything in the script happened at my home last week,” said Jon Erwin, who co-wrote MOMS’ NIGHT OUT with Andrea Nasfell and co-directed with his brother Andrew. The Erwin Brothers have four toddlers between them. “It’s a light-hearted look at the joys and challenges moms and dads face today, giving all the time kids need while still finding time for each other.”

Coming to theaters in 2014, MOMS’ NIGHT OUT chronicles one night out gone awry, as three harried moms, their husbands, a sister-in-law with a misplaced baby, a tattoo parlor owner, a motorcycle gang and one bewildered cabbie learn to embrace the beautiful mess called parenting.

“We grew up watching great family comedies,” said Andrew Erwin. “We felt it was time to bring the genre of clean family comedy back to the big screen, and we brought a powerful comedic cast with us to do it.”

MOMS’ NIGHT OUT also loops in a little wholesome passion between a wife and her husband, played by Grey’s Anatomy’s Sarah Drew as Allyson and Sean Astin as Sean.

"I love that the film is not just a comedy but also a love story between Allyson and Sean,” Drew said.

MOMS’ NIGHT OUT spotlights the unfulfilled expectations and serial self-doubts many moms feel . . . then reassures us that the key is raising kids in a loving home.

“I’m excited to be a part of the group of women in a comedy that is reality for families everywhere,” said Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle star, two-time Emmy winner and mom of four Patricia Heaton from the MNO set. “I’ve had so many people come up to me over the years and say, ‘Your show got us through a very difficult time in our family and raised our spirits.’ I think sometimes in a family the only way to diffuse a tense situation is to make a joke or mock yourself or the situation. At some point you just have to laugh about it. That’s what we hope will happen with MOMS’ NIGHT OUT.”

Heaton is an executive producer on the film along with her husband, David Hunt, who joins her onscreen as well, playing a local cabbie caught up in the fun.

“Any dad will tell you that love and laughter often lift families over the everyday challenges of life,” Hunt said. “And with MOMS’ NIGHT OUT the entire family—moms, dads and kids—will laugh together.”

MOMS’ NIGHT OUT features Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy), Sean Astin (THE LORD OF THE RINGS), Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond, The Middle), Alex Kendrick (COURAGEOUS), Robert Amaya (COURAGEOUS), Andrea Logan White (REVELATION ROAD) and Kevin Downes (COURAGEOUS). Platinum-selling country recording artist Trace Adkins (THE LINCOLN LAWYER) is “Bones,” a philosophical tattoo artist with a checkered past and a load of wisdom. (For an expanded cast list, see MOMS’ NIGHT OUT Media Fact Sheet.)

This anticipated second feature film from Andrew and Jon Erwin follows on the buzz created by their 2012 hit OCTOBER BABY that surprised the film industry with a No. 8 box office debut against big-budget competition and drew page 1-A coverage in The New York Times.

THE DOVE FOUNDATION—KNOWN FOR FILM AND DVD REVIEWS AND ENDORSEMENTS—ADDS BOOKS

Dove.org

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Jan. 14, 2013 – The Dove Foundation, known for awarding its highly-regarded blue-and-white “Family Approved” seal to movies and DVDs, announces the addition of a new books category for reviews and endorsements.

“We’ve always tried to respond to the market demand for our services,” said Dove CEO Dick Rolfe. “And we began moving in the direction of books by reviewing movie screenplays from writers who were looking for our endorsement as a means of attracting producers and investors.”

For more than 21 years, the foundation has set the standard for family friendly content in entertainment. Dove’s informative reviews of theatrical films and DVDs reach an estimated 1 million online viewers through www.dove.org and several syndication partners’ websites. Reviews and endorsements also are sent regularly via email to approximately 80,000 supporters and subscribers.

Contacted by CBA officials in 2010, Dove created a task force that resulted in the addition of “Faith Friendly” and “Faith Based” seals to identify films that contain religious content. Soon Dove started receiving requests from movie producers to review novelizations and supplementary books attached to their films. As an example, Dove was asked to review five books based on the hit Christian movie from Sherwood Pictures COURAGEOUS.

“Just as we valued Dove’s ‘Family Approved’ seal for our film, we wanted readers of the various books associated with COURAGEOUS to have the same level of confidence,” said Alex Kendrick, who co-wrote, directed and starred in the film and co-wrote the novelization.

What followed were discussions with several publishers, making Dove aware of the need for reviews of books, especially teen and young adult novels and children’s books, according to Dove Client Services Director Scott Rolfe.

“So we trained a team of skilled book reviewers and an editor in Dove’s unique review process,” he said. “Now we have the infrastructure in place to handle the increased demand from publishers, authors and agents.”

Dove has published reviews of more than 100 books and manuscripts to date. Additionally, the foundation has retooled its website at www.dove.org to include a new books category alongside theatrical and DVD reviews.

For additional information, contact Scott Rolfe (scott@dove.org), or call 616-454-5021, ext. 21.

ABOUT DOVE

The foundation’s mission is to encourage and promote the creation, production, distribution and consumption of family friendly entertainment.
