#HoustonWeHaveAProblem Petition Surpasses 10,000 Supporters as Pressure Mounts for City of Houston to Drop Subpoenas
Faith Driven Consumer's grassroots effort supporting Houston's pastors--despite initially being blocked by Twitter after it launched last Thursday--continues to gain momentum as leaders around the nation call on city officials to reverse course
RALEIGH, NC - Oct. 20, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- Faith Driven Consumer™, the group that emerged on the national stage last year with its #IStandWithPhil campaign that played a leading role in Phil Robertson's return to Duck Dynasty, has surpassed 10,000 signatures for its latest petition campaign, despite being initially blocked by Twitter. The petition--#
Last week, dozens of media outlets reported that the City of Houston had demanded that a group of pastors turn over any sermons--including personal correspondence such as emails--"dealing with homosexuality, gender identity or Annise Parker, the city's first openly lesbian mayor."
"Thousands of concerned citizens are signing up in support of this important cause--harnessing the power of social media and keeping the pressure on Houston's governmental leaders. Faith Driven Consumers and people of conscience across the nation--including leaders at the local, state and national levels-are joining the call for the mayor and city officials to unequivocally reverse course and end their harassment of five respected area pastors and ultimately Christians throughout Houston," said Chris Stone, founder of Faith Driven Consumer. "We will continue to rally greater levels of grassroots support until tolerance and equality for people of faith are restored in the nation's fourth largest city."
Faith Driven Consumer serves as an advocate for more than 41 million consumers-one in every six American adults-who spend $2 trillion annually. The#HoustonWeHaveAProblem petition campaign reminds everyone that "pastors have been at the very center of American society since even before our founding as a nation, and they remain an integral part of the lives of untold of millions of Americans today," that "our First Amendment protects freedom of speech and religion" and that "we...live in a society that values equality, including the notion that everyone has the right to publicly express deeply held beliefs without fear of persecution or reprisal."
Signers at HoustonProblem.com express the desire that "the City of Houston, in its quest to provide protection for LGBT citizens, to equally and explicitly acknowledge and ensure the equal rights of people of faith to live and express openly their deeply held religious beliefs."

"For us, with our number of children that we have, we really felt like the best way that we could really direct our children's hearts toward God was with homeschooling," said Michelle Duggar. Offering a variety of print and computer-based curriculum, as well as an accredited online academy for grades K-12, Alpha Omega Publications impressed the Duggars with its passion for homeschooling and tradition of excellence. Most importantly, however, the Duggars continue to use AOP curriculum because of its foundation in faith.
"Definitely, AOP complements our family's goals because they have our same values at heart," Michelle said. "It is about godly character and getting God's Word into their lives, and it is integrated all through the curriculum and materials."
In addition to AOP's Christian worldview, Michelle is especially excited about the automatic grading features in AOP's computer-based curriculum.
"The wonderful thing is it keeps all of their scores," she said. "That will save lots of time...lots of time!"

Catholic Church Embraces New Media: 'OneParish' App Now Being Used by Parishioners in Thousands of US Catholic Parishes
The OneParish app is built on Pope Francis' vision of growing relationships among and within Catholic communities, by "letting us boldly become citizens of the digital world," and using new media to create an "environment rich in humanity." This new media is already embraced by today's mobile Catholic and the OneParish app is designed with features based on feedback from users around the world.
The app includes everything a pastor needs to help his parishioners meaningfully engage their faith: daily Mass readings, Catholic talk radio, location-based Mass and Confession finder, and messages from Pope Francis himself. It allows parishioners the ability to easily share inspirational content, engage with each other and their parish via a mobile parish directory, receive messages directly from their priest, and instantly donate to any parish in the country.
Since the average smartphone user checks their phone more than 100 times a day, OneParish is the most convenient and personal way to help Catholics deepen their faith and connect with their community. "Despite being a church of 1 billion souls, no one has developed a system to truly unleash mobile technology in the service of our church family. OneParish exists to answer that challenge," says Ryan Kreager, Growing the Faith's CEO and Co-Founder.
"It is vital for the new Evangelization that the Church engages our people through new media," says Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Diocese of Fort Wayne - South Bend, who has given his blessing for OneParish to be used in his Diocese. "OneParish does this in an innovative and exciting way, connecting parishioners with their parish communities, promoting growth in their faith and their vocation as disciples of Jesus and engaged members of his Church."
The OneParish web portal for churches allows priests and their staff to directly communicate with their flock, while allowing individuals to find parish resources and keep their social profile up to date. New tools to help people reconnect with their community, give back in meaningful ways, and organize events and volunteers are slated for release by Christmas. The OneParish system is very flexible: individuals will be able to follow calendars and events from other local parishes, and its messaging system allows a Bishop and his staff to connect with all the OneParish users in their Diocese.
Pastors can sign up for free at app.oneparish.com/parish/
Growing the Faith, who created the OneParish app, was founded by Ryan Kreager and Shane O'Flaherty. Ryan is a renowned thought leader in Catholic technology who helped create such apps as the Missio App personally launched by Pope Francis, the Rediscover App for the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis, and the first app ever to receive Church approval (an imprimatur), Confession: A Roman Catholic App. Shane O'Flaherty is a 24-year veteran of startups and the hospitality world, bringing his knowledge of world-class service to Catholic parishes.
"In 25 years in Silicon Valley, I've never seen a startup with users who love a product more than the users of OneParish," says Tim Connors, Growing the Faith investor and veteran venture capitalist. "Ryan and Shane heard the call, and are amazing listeners to the needs of Catholics and their pastors. They are just getting started."
OneParish is free for iOS and Android. For more info, visit www.oneparish.com.

UP Sponsors 'Evolution of Gospel' Celebration
Event at Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Highlights September's 6th Annual Gospel Music Heritage Month
2014 Honorees Include Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin and Sen. Blanche Lincoln
This awards event will be held on September 15, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be produced by Ernest Walker of Walker Entertainment Group, Houston, TX. Musical tributes will be rendered by some of the most anointed Gospel vocalists including Kathy Taylor, Edwin Hawkins, Dottie Peoples, Stephen Hurd and Tasha Page Lockhart, among others.
Charles Humbard, CEO of UP and who was instrumental in the creation of GMHM, said, "No other music uplifts like gospel music. It is a part of the fabric of America and our heritage at UP and we are pleased to be a part of this terrific celebration."
Congresswoman Lee says of the event, "Gospel music is an American art form that has spanned hundreds of years and across several generations and has touched millions of lives around the world while demonstrating its profound ability to transcend secular musical genres. Gospel music reaches all denominations and racial groups. From the Tennessee Valley, to the Appalachia, to New York to Houston, to Mississippi to Atlanta gospel music is sung by many different people all over the United States and the world. This month, we are commemorating those people that bring joy and comfort to soldiers on the battlefield and many others. We are all reminded by the song 'Amazing Grace' that was written by former boat captain John Newton. Gospel Music speaks to everyone and the Gospel Music legislation is important because it highlights all of those stories of gospel music and the early leaders in gospel music. The influence of it can be found infused in all forms of secular music including rock & roll, country, R&B, and countless other styles. I am thankful that we are continuing to commemorate and designate the month of September as Gospel Music Heritage Month which will celebrate and honor the heritage of gospel music. Gospel Music Heritage Month has been celebrated in the Halls of Congress as well as the Administration as well as other locations around the nation. We hope to see many more events like this across the nation in the month of September."
Carl Davis, chairman of the Gospel Music Heritage Month Foundation said, "Our annual gala has become one of the most anticipated events on the Gospel music calendar, and it gets bigger and better every year. The live performances and tributes to the great history of this music genre make the event like no other. We will honor two gospel icons, Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams, and our friend Senator Blanche Lincoln, the co-sponsor of that historical resolution declaring September as 'Gospel Music Heritage Month.' The efficacy of these individuals has impacted the genre of gospel music with historical relevance and meaning. They have indelibly written on the consciousness of the human spirit the unyielding power of the gospel through song. I wish to thank the leadership of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Thomas A. Dorsey Convention of Choirs and Choruses, Edwin Hawkins Music & Arts Seminar, and the Gospel Heritage Foundation for joining the Gospel Music Heritage Month Foundation in this celebration. Together we can take gospel music to its rightful place in the history of this great nation."
In 2008, Congresswoman Jackson Lee introduced the historic resolution, H.J. Res. 90, after meeting in her U.S. Capital office with Charley Humbard, Gospel Music Advocate Carl Davis and Entertainment Executive Alvin Williams. The group met to discuss the rich contributions of Gospel music to this country and to provide the necessary support and leadership to have September designated as "Gospel Music Heritage Month" across the nation. With the support of Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), the bipartisan passage of the bill helped to usher in a new national focus to honor Gospel music for its valuable and longstanding contributions to the culture of the United States. Congresswoman Jackson Lee then led the effort with Gospel Music Advocate Carl Davis to create the Gospel Music Heritage Month Foundation that celebrates Gospel music annually.
Previous honorees of the Evolution of Gospel event, include Gospel icons and trailblazers Dr. Bobby Jones (Bobby Jones Gospel); Cathy Hughes (Radio One); Charley Humbard (UP TV); Don Jackson (Stellar Awards); Congressman John Lewis, who was honored as a salute to the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington; and Gospel icon Richard Smallwood, along with Bill Hearn of Capital Music Group for their major contributions to the legacy of Gospel music.

NASCAR Driver Says 'No' to God, Becomes Amazon Best Seller
So how has this book exploded off the mark and headed to the top of the ratings? The book cuts straight to the point of why prayer works for some people and not so much for others, and then replaces doubt with miracles. The book's subtitle, "How Performance-Based Prayers Make Miracles Happen," is truthful and accurate. Robert even provides photographic evidence of actual miracles that have occurred as a result of performance-based prayer.
And there is absolutely nothing religious about this book! You won't read obscure theological theories or boring repetitive stories here. Take a look at some of these chapter titles: Thank the Lord for Taco Bell; Apparently, God Drives a Ford; and No Magic Fairy Dust. I can't wait to read it...uh, make that again!
