LeTOURNEAU UNIVERSITY’S NEW NURSING PROGRAM, TYPICALLY, IS ‘HIGH HANDS-ON’

Opening This Fall: Innovative Learning From Classrooms

to Homeless Shelters and Even Abroad

LONGVIEW, Texas – July 24, 2014 – Approved by the Texas Board of Nursing, this fall LeTourneau University debuts a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree on its main campus.

“Our science and technology programs already shine, and new nursing capabilities up the wattage,” University President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford said. “True to LeTourneau standards, we mix flexible learning with broad hands-on, supervised clinical experience. Students benefit, the school benefits and regional health care quality just got a shot in the arm.”

The action by the Texas Board of Nursing follows months of extensive planning by the university; endorsements by regional hospitals and health care providers; and a comprehensive evaluation by the TBN. The new program is pending approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

A Booming Need
As Boomers turn gray and health-care needs skyrocket, the U.S. Department of Labor says more than 700,000 new nurses are needed by 2020. Looking at work growth in the coming years, a full one-third will be healthcare-related, according to a 2012 DOL report. Between 2010 and 2020, nursing jobs will rise about 26 percent. Factor in the likely exit of retiring nurses as the economy recovers, and LeTourneau is rising to market demand with high skills.

The need is particularly acute in Texas.

“Texas ranks 45th in the U.S. for registered nurses per 100,000 population,” LETU’s new Dean of Nursing Dr. Kimberly Quiett said. “LeTourneau will emphasize the types of care specifically needed in the rural populations of Texas as well as for the metropolitan areas.”
The school also is working with ministries that could provide global service opportunities for nursing students.

“LETU students tend to be mission-minded, and global work is a natural to nursing,” Quiett explains. “What’s more, many LETU nursing grads will see work within the church as foundational to their practice.”
Quiett also has arranged for students, working alongside faculty, to serve through churches. As they help churches serve community needs, the students again help people of highly varied ages and backgrounds.

Innovative Clinical Student Experience
LETU’s new School of Nursing will engage with more than 20 local healthcare and community agencies to teach students in a wide range of clinical venues and across a broad swath of cultures, age groups, socio-economic levels and clinical issues and problems.
Students also may work in homeless shelters, public clinics, churches, community groups, schools, child care centers, adult day care centers, memory care facilities, home health care agencies and hospice organizations.

“LETU nursing grads—hands on and hands down—will be equipped anytime and anywhere to lead through service,” Quiett said.

Atlanta Ride of Life Event Raises Awareness to Fight ALS

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga., July 24, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- For almost 2 months Silas "Randy" Smith has been riding his Motorcycle around the USA and talking about his wife,
Sophia Smith and the losing battle she fought with ALS. Randy rides with a two fold purpose: (1) To raise awareness about this devastating disease and (2) To complete an inpatient center for Hospice of South Texas, a state of the art facility for those who require intensive palliative care. Randy plans to accomplish this by personally asking each person he meets on his nationwide tour to give at least $10 for Hospice's new "home like" end-of-life center and to ask 10 others to do the same.

Randy will be in Stockbridge, Georgia on Saturday July 26th at the licensed Avon Beauty Center (retail store) located at 5015 Mt Zion Pkwy (next to Kohl's). Sophia was one of the top 10 producing Avon representatives in the USA, and was well known around the country; and her friend and sister representative Pat Puzder and her Team will host Randy for a special Atlanta "Ride of Life Event" this Saturday. Pat expects many representatives to join them from across Georgia and Alabama and perhaps even other areas because when Sophia died, she left not only her husband Randy and 3 children behind, she left an army of Avon representatives in awe of her bravery and courage.

The public is cordially invited! Music, clown and balloons, face painting, BBQ , shaved ice and Funnel cakes , mini makeovers by an Avon Make Up Maven, sidewalk vendors and a silent auction are among the planned activities.

Motorcycle Ride: Register at 4 PM at Avon Store. Kickstands up at 4;45. Ride to Monticello, Ga and back to Stockbridge. $10 per bike and $5 for extra rider.

In South Metro Atlanta, tune in to FUN101.1 FM radio, the #1 rated radio station in a 5 county area: Spalding, Pike, Lamar, Upson, and Meriwether. All can listen online at:www.fun101.1fm.com this Friday morning July 25th to hear the weekend warrior, Crystal Swygert interview Randy on "Mick In The Morning." Crystal's interview will be sometime between 8 and 9:30 AM.

Mercy's Well News: Easter Review and 10-Day Texas Tour

From Mercy's Well newsletter of April 4, 2013:

Welcome to April! Even with March having five Sundays, it seems like the time just flew by. We trust each of you had a blessed Easter weekend and were able to enjoy sweet fellowship with church members, friends, and family. If nothing else, we hope you were able to worship our risen Savior and come away with a fresh perspective of how great He truly is!

We enjoyed a weekend off from singing, and took the time to relax and re-energize ourselves, both physically and spiritually. The break was well-timed, because we will be leaving this evening to start a 10-day tour of Texas (with a quick stop in Central TN). It has been some time since we last visited the Lone Star State, so we want to encourage all of our Texas friends to check the bottom of this newsletter for our scheduled appearances and come out to see us if you can!

We enjoy staying in contact with all of our friends and fans, and one of the great ways we can do that is through our Facebook page. You can LIKE us, then share your comments and keep up with our ministry as we travel. Once you LIKE our page, share it with others! We look forward to seeing you soon - in person AND online!

Have a great week!

Serving Him,
Brad, Greg & Kyle

Brian Dennehy, Crystal Bernard Star in 'Welcome to Paradise' on DVD Dec. 18

‘WELCOME TO PARADISE’—INSPIRING FAMILY FILM — DEBUTS DEC. 18
Starring Brian Dennehy and Crystal Bernard, an Uplifting Story of Faith That Changes Lives and Overcomes Obstacles

EchoLight.com/welcometoparadise

DALLAS – Nov. 19, 2012 – Paradise, Texas is about to become the place to be. With DVD sales launching Dec. 18, WELCOME TO PARADISE—an inspiring film for the whole family—shows the power of faith, love, tolerance and forgiveness to melt hardened hearts, change made-up minds and work miracles.

“WELCOME TO PARADISE proves the old saying, ‘God plus one equals a majority,’” said Brent Huff, the film’s director and co-writer. “Stars Crystal Bernard and Brian Dennehy bring to life a funny and uplifting story woven throughout with small town characters you’ll grow to care about.”

Crystal Bernard (Wings), Brad Stine (CHRISTMAS WITH A CAPITAL C), and Brian Dennehy (THE ULTIMATE GIFT, COCOON), star in this wholesome, light-hearted feature that reminds us how love and acceptance go a long way in showing our faith.

Debbie Laramie uproots her home in Dallas when she’s transferred to a small church in the sleepy town of Paradise, Texas. Once there, Debbie and her teenage son brave a bumpy road as they adjust to a community in need of a guide back to God. The plucky pastor’s unique approach to church life polarizes the members even more—until a catastrophic chain of events leaves them without a building at all. An old barn is their only chance to keep the church alive. With the help of her supporters—and even a few naysayers—Debbie turns a humbling challenge into an opportunity to breathe new life into the community and inspires her new church to trust in her and God’s plan.

From Out of Pocket Films, WELCOME TO PARADISE is distributed by EchoLight Studios. It also features Bobby Edner (SPY KIDS 3D: GAME OVER) and William Shockley (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman).

“WELCOME TO PARADISE is a film with humor and heart,” said EchoLight Chief Global Strategist Christopher Morrow. “Every member of the family will find a point of connection with this story of faith’s power to bring out our best.”

WELCOME TO PARADISE will be available through online and retail outlets nationwide beginning Dec. 18.

I AM GABRIEL....Launched August 28

‘I AM . . . GABRIEL’ DVD LAUNCHES AUG. 28;
INSPIRES WITH STORY OF ANGEL IN OUR MIDST

WHAT: I AM . . . GABRIEL is a moving and mysterious film about divine interaction in our daily lives weaving multiple stories of individuals touched by tragedy and their varied responses to an unlikely messenger from God with an amazing message of hope.

WHO: Starring Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), John Schneider (The Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville) and Gavin Casalegno in his breakout role as the title character. I AM . . . GABRIEL is from actor, director, writer and producer Mike Norris, son of legendary performer and martial arts champion Chuck Norris.

WHEN: Aug. 28, 2012

WHY: I AM . . . GABRIEL shows what happens when people turn to God in prayer and start to trust Him for the circumstances in their lives. It brings the mystery of faith to life and encourages viewers to see God at work in every detail.

SYNOPSIS: Promise, Texas, is no place to raise a family. No rain. Businesses failing. The kids can’t wait to grow up and move away. Some folks say the town is cursed. But just when things are at their darkest, a mysterious boy comes out of the wilderness with nothing but the clothes on his back and a strange mat under his arm. He has a message for the people of Promise, but they’re slow to listen. They’re blind to the mirror between the slow death of the town and their own parched souls. Confronted by their spiritual shortcomings, the town’s indignation turns to outrage. Still the boy holds to his message: without Christ there is no hope, and Promise can be remade only through earnest communion with the Father. In the end, with his back against the wall — surrounded by skeptics — the boy is forced to reveal his true identity.
ADDITIONAL STORY IDEAS:

Small town. Big dreams—In the small, North Texas town of Justin, a group of local citizens wanted to produce a film about reaching out to God when you find yourself in need. These people reached out to Mike Norris, veteran actor and director, who had left Hollywood behind, set up shop in nearby Flower Mound and was committed to creating faith-focused film.
Making films beyond Hollywood—Veteran actor and director Mike Norris grew up well acquainted with the Hollywood scene—his father is legendary star and martial arts champion Chuck Norris—and immersed himself in it as a young man. But after marrying in 1992, he wanted more from life than Hollywood glitz and parties. He moved to Flower Mound, Texas, near Dallas, established 2nd Fiddle Entertainment and began creating faith-focused films.

News from Mercy's Well

From Mercy's Well Email Newsletter July 12, 2012

We had a great time out in Texas, but it is good to be back home - even if it's only for a few days. Our trip started last Thursday night with a drive to Nashville, TN where we bedded down for the night. This allowed us to spend a few hours Friday morning with our producer and friend, Donna King, and her husband Zane. We were able to get a tour of their new home which includes a brand new recording studio - Flight Studio! We can't wait to get in there and start recording...possibly later this year!!!

After another day-and-a-half of driving, we reached our destination: Perryton, TX. We worshiped all day with the folks at Community Worship Center and truly felt "at home" by the time we left Sunday evening. We had two great services, dinner on the grounds, and Cowboy Sunday all wrapped in one day! Yee-haw! We made a lot of new friends, and look forward to being with them again in the future.

It has finally arrived: Our "Cruise of a Lifetime" departs from Seattle, WA in just 5 short days! Many of our newsletter recipients will be joining us on this special voyage, so we look forward to seeing you! Those of you who could not make this trip, do not despair, because we are already making preparations for a cruise for 2013, and we would LOVE to have you join us!

Not sure if we'll get an update out next week or not, but please keep us in your prayers. We've got a full weekend in NC before we head out to sea, so we look forward to seeing those folks who can come out and be with us!

Have a great week, and God Bless!

In Christ,
Brad, Greg & Kyle

Upcoming Gospel Concert in Bay City

Our last concert of the year will be next Friday, December 16th at 7pm at the Legacy Retirement Center.  Our featured group will be Appointed By Grace - www.appointedbygrace.com

Appointed By Grace consist of Joe Irwin, Melissa Evers, and Karla Burris.  Joe, Melissa, and Karla offer a unique mix of gospel music singing styles.  Joe has been involved in music ministry for over thirty years.  Joe sang and played bass with a family group called the Woodromes for many years as they traveled throughout the southeastern United States.  In addition to being Godly wives and mothers, Melissa and Karla have both been involved in singing ministries since childhood.

God has gifted them as singers, songwriters, musicians and ministers.  They have proven themselves to be dedicated to God and their families.  Joe has served as an Associate Pastor and as a Youth / Music Director.  He is now serving as an Evangelist.  Melissa has ministered in various settings such as youth and ladies conferences, churches, camp meetings and concert halls.  She has been the recipient of two national talent search awards and as a soloist, has opened for many well known gospel artists. She is currently the Worship Leader in her home church. Karla grew up in a family of talented singers and musicians.  She has taught Sunday school, AWANA, and ladies bible studies in her home church.  For the past thirteen years, she has been performing weekly at the Liberty Opry.  Singing there has led to many opportunities for her to sing at community ceremonies, Senior Center programs, worship services and various church functions.  Joe, Melissa, and Karla have appeared on numerous TBN television programs throughout the nation and have completed over twenty recording projects both as a group and separately.

Their ministry consists of powerful singing wrapped in the Word of God and seasoned with personal testimonies. Through the medium of song, they paint a portrait of hope for the lost, call the sinner to repentance, and encourage the Christian to service.
Free admission with a lover offering to be received for the group.
