My Favorite Experience EVER by Scott Fowler

A few weeks ago I mentioned that while in Israel, my pastor and I got to do something that none of the other 700 people in our tour group got to do. It's time for me to finally let you in on this awesome experience.
As I said earlier, I had one place I really wanted to see while in the Holy Land, but we were not allowed to go. After our tour official tour was done, we had the afternoon free before our flights back home. Rick (my pastor) and I were walking around in the Old City of Jerusalem. We had walked around the Jewish Quarters, the Christian Quarters, the Armenian Quarters and were now in the Muslim Quarters. We found everyone inside the city to be so warm and friendly. Some Muslim merchants were even coming out of their shops thanking us for not canceling our trip due to the recent conflict. As we continued walking down the alleyways just taking in all the wonderful sights, a 13 year-old Muslim boy stopped us and said, "I'm sorry, but only Muslims are allowed past this point." I replied, "thanks for telling us" and he kindly asked us where we wanted to go? I told him we wanted to go back to the wailing (western) wall one more time. He said, "Follow me....I will take you." So we followed this nice young man and he took us right to the wall. Along the way he pointed out all the points of interest and was a very good tour guide. I commented to him that he should consider being a guide and he proudly informed me that he "was a tour guide when he was younger.....age 7." We smiled and soon he had delivered us to the Western Wall as promised. We gave him a "tip" and he asked us if there was something else we wanted to see before we left. Rick told him what we REALLY wanted to see was the Temple Mount.

Young, Mohamed asked me what time it was. I told him 1:25 to which he replied, "You must hurry." He went on to say they would allow a few people in at 1:30. So he showed us where to go and we quickly went and got in line. Just as he said, they let a few people "in" and Rick and I were two of "the few."

I won't do in-depth education now as to the significance of the Temple mount (that will be another post but most of you already likely know). What's important to know now is that the Temple Mount is under Arab control and Jewish people are forbidden to go t

here. A sign at the entrance declared such. Now I understood why it was not a part of our "tour" itinerary as many tour guides on our trip were Jewish.
So we pass thru the security check-point and entered the Temple Mount which houses the Dome of the Rock....the 3rd holiest site in Islam. We were immediately met by a 24 year old Muslim young man. He said there were certain places we could not go unless accompanied by a Muslim. He offered us a 45-minute "tour" in exchange for a tip to him... the amount of which was up to us. We readily agreed an embarked on a FASCINATING tour of the Temple Mount.

He indeed took us to some "behind the scenes" places where we saw NO ONE ELSE. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. Although we were not allowed to go inside the Al Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock, he did allow to us take pictures as long as we did not speak to anyone.
Inside the Al Aqsa Mosque

It was amazing to be standing there on Mt. Moriah, where Abraham took Isaac to offer him as a sacrifice in obedience to God. The site of the first and second Temple...where they housed the Ark of the Covenant, and where Christians believe the third and final Temple will be built.

It was very interesting to hear this young man's perspective on this holy site as it relates to Islam as well as his perspective with regard to the claims of this site by Jews and Christians alike. It was very evident to see how this single solitary spot will likely be the catalyst that will one day make and change world history.

Rick and I felt humbled and grateful that God had given us favor and allowed us to visit up close, this very significant place on Earth. Additionally, we now know "how" to take folks there next October when we return with some of you.

I want to implore you in the strongest way possible to begin saving some money and plan to go with Legacy Five and my pastor Rick White to Israel next October. The Holy Land is one place every single believer needs to experience. It's life-changing. To find out more information about how you can go with us next year, click here.

Next post I will answer the most frequently asked question: Is it safe to travel to Israel?

Until Next Time,
Scott Fowler

News from Legacy Five

From Legacy Five's email newsletter of February 6, 2013:

What a great month January was! The New Year's Celebration at Gaylord Opryland Hotel was magnificent! Then we had two Jubilee concerts with the Booth Brothers and Greater Vision. We also enjoyed our Eastern Caribbean Gospel Music Celebration cruise with The Collingsworth Family, Greater Vision, Triumphant Quartet, The Booth Brothers, Tim Lovelace and others. It was a phenomenal cruise for sure.
Wow...what a month!

Now we look to February for some more great times. This month will take us to Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Arizona. See our schedule below for more details. Come see us and bring a friend!

Blessings,

More details will be coming soon, so go ahead and mark your calendars and make plans to attend this once-in-a-lifetime unforgettable experience known as Mackinac Island, Michigan.
Don't Miss the Boat!
January 18 - 25, 2014

In the first paragraph, I mentioned just having gotten off our annual Eastern Caribbean cruise. That cruise destination is THE BEST Caribbean itinerary I have EVER been on. Plus, the Holland America cruise line is superb. Then you add the detail and class of Inspiration Christian Cruises along with the best artists Southern Gospel Music has to offer, and it is no wonder that this cruise sold out 5 months in advance. The passengers are demanding this cruise be offered again, so we are scheduled to do it all over again January 18-25 of next year. I know it sounds like a long time away and some of you don't like to plan that far ahead. BUT....this cruise does sell out quickly. There are a limited number of cabins in each "category" and so you need to reserve the cabin of your choice as soon as possible. Take your time paying the cruse off, but at least secure your spot now. You have until October 29th to cancel your reservation and still receive a refund. So....don't wait....reserve your spot NOW.

Last, but not Least!
Your Stories
Legacy Five has a tab on our website called, "Your Stories." These are letters we have received from folks who have a specific story to tell that somehow relates to the ministry of Legacy Five. If you have a special story you would like to share, please email it to us and we will consider it for publication on our site. We only post your story once we have received permission from you. But even if we don't publish your story, we still want to hear it. Your stories encourage us and we love reading what God has done in your life through our music. So....I'd like to leave you with a letter I just got this week. It is shared with permission, however this person did request that we not include her name or town. She gave me permission to share it with you because she hopes her story might help encourage one of you.

Dear Legacy Five,

Let me start out by saying thank you again for an awesome and encouraging concert tonight. And thank you for granting my request to sing I Stand Redeemed. I so did not want the evening to end. Another reason I look forward to Heaven....the singing and praise and worship won't ever have to end!

About eleven years ago I found myself divorced after nine years of marriage. I was told that he just didn't love me anymore. In the aftermath and heartbreak of this life event, I soon found myself involved in a relationship with a married man. Now I had gone forward as a child to accept Christ, and was raised in a Christian home, so I knew all of this was terribly wrong. When this relationship fell apart and he decided to go back to his wife of 25 years, I was left despondent, heart broken and feeling very much alone and lost. So I went out to his barn and looked for something sharp. I found a razor blade and attempted to use it on my wrists, but the blade was too dull to get very much damage done before I was found and stopped. I do however still carry a couple of minor scars to this day.

It was about two weeks after this that I was invited to your concert. When you guys sang I Stand Redeemed, I crumbled. It was like you were singing my hearts cry. "When I think of all my faults and my failures...." But oh how God used that chorus to encourage and heal this broken heart!

So tonight found me desiring to hear it again in the aftermath of yet another failed 9 1/2 year marriage. This time, my husband had turned verbally and mentally abusive and I believe it was soon to escalate into physical abuse. For the safety of my 3 year old son and I, we left.

The good news? The God on the mountain is still God in the valley. He has continued to do exceeding abundantly above all I could ask or think. Now don't get me wrong. I've had some pretty rough faith days, and not always had the most Godly of thoughts and attitudes, but His provision for us has been so wonderful! And at the end of the day I can still say, I Stand Redeemed, no matter what.

I hope this can encourage you just a little to know what an impact your service to the Lord can have and is having. Thanks to all of you for caring and being such a blessing. Thank you for your continued service and sacrifice, and for sharing the good news of the gospel.

Legacy Five Debuts Anticipated “Ask Me Why” to YouTube

Nashville, TN - After weeks of waiting, fans finally get the chance to see the official music video release of Legacy Five’s “Ask Me Why.”  It is based on the true story of a woman named Patty and her daughter Hannah who converted to Christianity from Islam after accidentally showing up at a Legacy Five concert.

The video is already gaining buzz on YouTube with exponential growth in hits, comments, and shares on Facebook.  L5 celebrates the release along with cover stories in both Singing News Magazine and SGN Scoops this month.

Patty Davenport Bahhur is actually featured in the video as a woman going through hardship and finding grace.  Scott Fowler, lead singer, tells the story of how Patty stumbled upon the Celebration Event at the Grand Ole Opry with her daughter and looked to the group for answers.  When she was given the wrong tickets to an event she thought would be the Opry show, she noticed something strikingly different about the concert.  The people looked happy.

“She went on to tell me that her husband is a Muslim and that she was not accustomed to being around so many people who seemed so happy. She again said to me, ‘So you see...we're not supposed to be here. We are here by accident. This is not the Grand Ole Opry show and I don't understand why everyone around here is so happy. What is this music all about?’”  Said Fowler, recalling Patty’s story, “It was then I realized that this was a divine appointment, and God was giving me an incredible opportunity to tell this lady and her daughter why we were all so ‘happy.’”

The video takes place at the Franklin Historic Presbyterian Church featuring a congregation comprised of L5 fans who volunteered to be extras.  “Ask Me Why” was penned by Kenna Turner West, who made an appearance at the filming along with Jim Brady of The Booth Brothers and Les Butler of Singing News.

“L5 is great to work with,” said producer Scott Godsey of Godsey and Associates. “Throughout the filming process, I could tell that they got it.  They are the real deal.”

Band members Scott Fowler, Scott Howard, Glenn Dustin, Gus Gaches, and Trey Ivies are featured at several locations throughout Franklin and Nashville, TN.

Legacy Five October Happenings

From the October 12 Legacy 5 Email Newsletter...

Fall is in the air....the leaves are starting to turn into all their beautiful shades of golds, yellows and reds and the air is crisp and cool. I just love this time of year and we are going to enjoy the next 9 days off at home with our families!

The Past Couple of Weeks . . .
We have had a great past couple of weeks. Two great concerts in Canada (eh!), a couple of concerts at Dollywood, two great concerts with Greater Vision, and two of my favorite days every year....Mackinac Island, Michigan. Man....that place is beautiful! We will be announcing the dates for next year soon! Glenn and I even got to play 9 holes of golf while we were there.

This year's Macinac Island retreat was the best attended one we have ever had. It is growing every year as people discover the unique beauty of this place. That building in the background is the Grand Hotel where we stay and have the concerts. It is the location of the classic movie "Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Dates for next year's "Macinac Island Retreat" will be announced soon. Be watching our website for details.

Special Dates in October ...
Not only does October boast my favorite season, it also brings some special occasions; Glenn's birthday was the 9th, Preston's is the 18th and Taryn's is the 22nd. But the REALLY big news is that Trey will be getting married this Friday the 14th. Glad it's not Friday the 13th! Congratulations to Trey and Kayla. We wish you much happiness.

Celebration NYE Addition
New Year's Eve Celebration at Opryland Hotel will be here before you know it. We have an EXCITING addition to announce to the artists line-up. The Collingsworth Family will be here this year. We are SO excited about them being able to join us this year. Please help us pass the word. We still have some all inclusive packages available which include two nights lodging at Gaylord Opryland Hotel, 4 concert sessions, hot buffet breakfast and all hotel and resort fees included, all for around $300. You can't even get two rooms lodging at Opryland for that price normally. So, come join Legacy Five, The Booth Brothers, Greater Vision, The Collingsworth Family, The Isaacs, Mark Trammell Quartet and Ken Davis for a fantastic fun filled three days. Click here for more details.

If you don't need the lodging, but just want to attend the concerts, call Pennie at our office and she will get you on the list. That number is 931-486-0020.
With Deep Sympathy
Legacy Five would like to extend our sincere sympathies to Kristi Dustin on the death of her dad, Charles Davis. Mr. Davis died suddenly and unexpecdantly of an apparent heart attack on Saturday, October 8th. He was 75 years old. May Kristi, Glenn, Garrett and Chloe be comforted knowing they will be with their dad and grandpa longer than they are without him.
On The Road . . .
Here are the dates for the next two weeks. Also, don't forget that our annual west coast trip is coming in November. Check out our website for those details. We appreciate you guys more than we could ever tell you. We thank God for you and hope to see you real soon!

Happy Autumn from Legacy 5

From Scott Fowler's Newsletter:

Happy Autumn! I wanted to share with you a remark from religious broadcaster Pat Robertson that stunned "700 Club" viewers last Tuesday when he said divorcing a spouse with Alzheimer's disease was justified.

Robertson, chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network and former Republican presidential candidate, said he wouldn't "put a guilt trip" on someone for divorcing a spouse with Alzheimer's disease, calling Alzheimer's itself "a kind of death."

The remarks sparked outrage throughout religious and medical communities, including my father-in-law, Ken Davis. I don't need to re-hash what ken said, because you can read it for yourself by clicking here: http://www.kendavis.com/commentary/what-would-pat-robertson-have-done-with-my-dad/.

But let me say this....."in sickness and in health, 'til death do us part.

- Scott Fowler

Legacy 5 Says Goodbye to Bus Driver, Gary Buckner

Good Bye, Gary

It's never too late to to accept change. The only constant in life is change. In nature, in society, in relationships, at work, things change. And they change constantly. See it as the larger picture, as normal. Don't fight it. Adapt to it.

So, today I will try and embrace change. Often I don't like the process of change, but like it or loath it, we better expect it. Change will come.

After nearly six years as the driver for Legacy Five, Gary Buckner has left to pursue an opportunity to drive for a coach leasing company out of Nashville.
Gary drove faithfully for us and logged several hundred thousand miles with Legacy Five. We love Gary and will miss him, but we wish nothing for him but the best.

I must also take this opportunity to thank Gary's wife, Sharon. Sharon kept a lot of the driving records, logs and paperwork and once a quarter would file that mountain of information with the various state agencies in order to comply with state and federal regulations. Sharon was a tireless worker and I don't even know the extent of work she did on our behalf.

Thank you Gary and Sharon. We love you and will miss you.

Our bus drivers become an extended part of the Legacy Five family. Please join us in prayer that God will send the next family member along soon. Driving the bus is no small task and we need just the right person. So, please pray and we will trust God to send just the right person our way.

Til We Meet Again,

Scott Fowler

Legacy Five and the Fan Awards Showcase and Straw Poll

News from Scott Fowler, through the latest Legacy Five E-mail Newsletter:

You may have heard, the NQC and the Singing News are jointly producing a showcase on Saturday afternoon of NQC called the "Fan Awards Showcase & Straw Poll."

This event will feature performances from artists nominated in the major categories of the fan awards and will feature an interactive element that will allow NQC attendees to vote for their favorites in these categories in anticipation of the actual Fan Awards being given later in September. The straw poll winners will be announced during the showcase and released to the media. There will no doubt be quite a bit of buzz and excitement surrounding the showcase and straw poll. We are happy to be nominated in the following categories:

Traditional Quartet
Lead Singer
Bass Singer
Musician
Album
Song of the Year

Here's how you can participate! ...

NQC and Singing News have decided to expand the interactive participation a bit. In addition to NQC attendees being able to vote, Facebook users can participate too!!! Those who "Like" the NQC Facebook fan page will be able to register votes for the straw poll. Legacy Five would be thrilled if you would participate in the straw poll! This is done by simply going to the NQC fan page on Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/NQConline) and "Like" the page sometime between now and the start of NQC. During NQC week, a link will be published on the NQC Facebook fan page that will allow you to register a vote in the straw poll. Rest assured the survey mechanism prevents multiple entries by the same person. This should be a lot of fun!

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this inaugural event and voting for your favorites in the straw poll. We look forward to seeing the results!

Until Next Time,
Scott
