NASHVILLE, Tenn.–GRAMMY®-nominated, classically trained tenor David Phelps topped the sales charts this week with his all-new recording, Freedom (Gaither Music Group). Produced by Phelps and mentor/friend/gospel music legend Bill Gaither, the new release landed at #1 on the Southern Gospel Albums chart and at #10 on the CCM Albums chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In addition, Phelps’ previous release, Classic (Gaither Music Group), hit the #2 spot on the Southern Gospel Albums chart, while the Classic DVD topped the Christian Music Video chart and came in at #3 on the Billboard Top Music Video chart.
Phelps, who wrote or co-wrote nine songs on the new release, describes, “…This is a snapshot of where I am on my journey…it’s real life and faith — not the absence of trouble, just the ability to be led through it by our loving Savior. For me, these songs are like the rings of a tree telling its story: some years were plentiful; some were dry; in the end they speak of life.”
Those songs of life underscore Phelps’ ability to bring music to life and showcase his award-winning, three-octave range. The recording includes gospel standards such as “Ain’t No Grave,” “When the Saints Go Marching In” and a signature recording of “We Shall Behold Him”; yet one of the songs taking audiences by storm is the Phelps-penned “Ghost Town (Freedom).”
“The central theme of Freedom emanates from the title song, ‘Ghost Town (Freedom),’” explains Phelps. “I began writing the era-based lyric in the verses and was amazed how the metaphor of Christ painted itself…it’s about why He did what He did: freedom!’ So much of our spiritual lives (and the songs on this project) are spent searching for or trying to cling to freedom.”
The recording features Phelps’ anticipated powerhouse vocals along with musicianship from a who’s who of Nashville talents including Gordon Mote, Chris Rodriguez, Danny O’Lannerghty, Greg Ritchie, Sam Levine, David Davidson and Jack Jezzro among others. The orchestrations were penned by Phelps, Mote, Steve Mauldin and Kristin Wilkinson. The rest of the Gaither Vocal Band — Bill Gaither, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb and Todd Suttles – were on hand to perform some of the project’s background vocals.
Freedom is distributed through Capitol Christian Distribution and is available throughout general market stores and the Christian marketplace in addition to online retailers including iTunes, Amazon and www.gaither.com.

Award-winning Tenor DAVID PHELPS Celebrates FREEDOM with All-NEW Recording
Acclaimed Vocalist Brings a “Ghost Town” to Life
Phelps Showcases His Vocal Prowess and Songwriting Talents with New Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--February 23rd, 2015--GRAMMY®-nominated, classically trained tenor David Phelps showcases his award-winning voice and three-octave range on his all-new recording, Freedom (Gaither Music Group). Produced by Phelps and mentor/friend/gospel music legend Bill Gaither, the new release, scheduled to hit the streets on April 14th, underscores Phelps’ ability to bring music to life.
“Freedom is a bit of a return home for me,” he describes. “I love that the first song starts with the lyric, ‘I'm back again....’ As the song ‘I'm Coming Home’ unfolded I knew that it had to be the first song on the project. I began my recording career with a project that included songs like ‘End of the Beginning,’ ‘Let the Glory Come Down’ and ‘No More Night’ – a gospel release with an eclectic mix of modern pop and soulful ballads. I will always be an eclectic artist, and…I've been honored to record rock ballads, traditional pop songs, classical arias and gospel standards.”
Fans will enjoy more of those gospel standards on the new recording, which includes Phelps’ haunting rendition of the classic hit “Ain’t No Grave,” an acoustic-driven version of “When the Saints Go Marching In” and a signature recording of “We Shall Behold Him.”
In addition to gospel favorites, Phelps contributed nine new songs that he wrote or co-wrote to the release. He addressed topics such as humility, brokenness, awe, faith, doubt, hope and freedom as featured in the title cut that required some soul-searching.
“The central theme of Freedom emanates from the title song, ‘Ghost Town (Freedom),’” explains Phelps. “I began writing the era-based lyric in the verses and was amazed how the metaphor of Christ painted itself. However, I got to the chorus and was stuck. After playing it for Bill (Gaither), he agreed that it needed something different than what I had. I went back to the drawing board.
“I asked myself, ‘What is all this about? It's not really about a ‘Ghost Town’ or a metaphor or even the specific deeds of Jesus. It's about why He did what He did: freedom!’ So much of our spiritual lives (and the songs on this project) are spent searching for or trying to cling to freedom.”
The rest of the Gaither Vocal Band -- Bill Gaither, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb and Todd Suttles – were on hand to perform some of the project’s background vocals.
“I truly feel like these songs are a part of me,” Phelps explains. “They are snapshots of where I am on my journey, and my hope is that they are told in a way that others can relate to and be encouraged by. I am far from perfect and depend on grace every moment of every day. I hope that Freedom paints a real portrait of living faith as I learn and grow on my journey.”
Freedom will be distributed through Capitol Christian Distribution and will be available throughout general market stores and the Christian marketplace in addition to online retailers including iTunes, Amazon and www.gaither.com.
The release will be positioned heavily at retail, via catalog placements and through a direct TV campaign, beginning in April, on networks including DISH TV, DIRECTV, AT&T Uverse, PBS, GaitherTV, TBN, FamilyNet, CTN, GMTN, Guardian, Liberty, RFD, TCT and TLN. The campaign will also air in Canada on Vision TV, The Miracle Channel, Grace TV and CTS.

Angela Primm Initiates Kickstarter For New Memorial Project
After Bill Gaither tapped her on the shoulder and designated her as one of his featured soloists on his famous Gaither Homecoming Videos, it was evident that the time had come for Angela to stretch herself and produce a major recording of herself.
What better atmosphere to record in than the songs of one of her heroines, namely mega-star herself, Mahalia Jackson. Mahalia Jackson was known for being able to sing the simple songs of the Gospel and bring them to life with her spirited singing. No one can bring as much enthusiasm to Mahalia Jackson's songs than Angela Primm. Angela will be bringing the old standard hymns and spirituals with all the dignity they deserve, yet adding her own personal touch which is sure to rapture your soul to new heights of ecstasy.
Now for a couple of stark facts. Angela is not one of those artists born with a silver spoon in her mouth, nor does she have a big record label to finance this exciting project. The truth is recording such a monumental project as this requires money, and a good bit of it. Producers, engineers, musicians and studios all have to be paid at the time of the recording.
This is where you come in. Angela Primm needs your help and support to accomplish this enormous task. The total cost of this memorial project, which is sure to touch the lives of millions of souls, is $28,000.00. That sounds like a tremendous amount, but in actuality if Angela's friends and fans who believe in what she does will help just a little, this mountain can become a molehill.
The Kickstarter program allows you to be a vital part of the ministry of Angela and also allows you to get a much greater insight into who and what Angela is. There will be many surprises for you the supporters as well as some very nice benefits. How would you like to give a private concert for you and your close friends in the Nashville, TN area? How would you like to have Angela sing Happy Birthday to you or one of your loved ones on the phone, the day of that big birthday? How about on your anniversary? A lot of very exciting things will be happening as a result of this Kickstarter program, plus you will be helping Angela go on about doing the Father's business.

A New Era Begins For The Gaither Vocal Band
When two Gaither Vocal Band vacancies came open in late 2013, Bill began a meticulous search and considered every possibility. A few weeks ago, Gaither Music announced Adam Crabb as the new lead singer, joining Bill Gaither, David Phelps and Wes Hampton. Now, at last, the search is over for our fifth member and a new era begins in the Gaither Vocal Band’s legacy!
Gaither Music is pleased to welcome our new baritone, Todd Suttles, to the Gaither Vocal Band. Todd’s deep resonant baritone voice is matched only by his wonderful character, quick sense of humor and infectious energy. He comes to us from Vanderbilt University, where he has served for 20 years as a Sports Fitness Director as well as Vanderbilt’s CampVandy Youth Programs Director, where he will continue when he is not traveling with the Gaither Vocal Band. Todd has sung with the Settles Connection and can be heard in the background vocals on numerous recordings with artists whom you know and love. He comes highly recommended by fellow artists, university faculty, and many others who have had the privilege of working with him.
“First of all, I want to thank Mark Lowry and Michael English for giving us some really wonderful years and incredible recordings that will live on in gospel music history,” Bill states. “We knew when they left, we had big shoes to fill and, as I have said before, you never truly replace anyone. You have to create something new and unique. I have been putting voices together for a long, long time and never before have we considered more possibilities or auditioned so many incredible singers than we have during the past few months. This decision came down to finding a vocal range and texture that would offer just the right balance to the current mix of voices in the group. I could not be happier with this decision. Not only do we love the rich tones in Todd’s voice, he also happens to be a wonderful human being to be around. So not only have we gained a talented individual, we have gained a new friend. And very soon, I believe you will agree. Trust me. This is going to be good!”
This energetic new line-up will set sail on the Gaither Homecoming Caribbean Cruise this coming Saturday and will be headed off to a full schedule of concert weekends throughout the spring. And we will soon announce fall tour dates as well! So stay tuned!

Nashville, TN (September 20, 2013) Multi-award nominated Christian Davis is well known for singing bass with the bluegrass group, Dailey and Vincent, but he also has a successful solo career. He is also known for his studio work singing on recordings for Dolly Parton and Bill Gaither's Homecoming Video Series. He has performed at the CMA Awards, The Grand Ole Opry, The Lincoln Center in NYC, The Johnny Cash Music Festival and many other events and venues around the world.
Christian began to sing at age three, and throughout his childhood he learned to play various instruments. He began singing professionally in 1998 while attending Liberty University, as bass vocalist with The Sounds of Liberty, traveling to many churches and venues around the country. Later that year Dr. Jerry Falwell, with Christian's persuasion, formed the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet, which Christian began as the original bass singer. Deon Unthank, co-founder of AG Publicity commented “I have watched Christian Davis from his early days with the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet and was immediately impressed with this young man's talent. He has developed into one of the finest Bass singers in Gospel music and I am honored to represent him as he progresses in his career.”

About Christian Davis
Christian Davis is not only a multi-talented man of God, but the hand of God is evidently working in his life. It is a rarity in any genre of musical entertainment when someone comes along with an individual talent that can captivate an audience for an entire performance. Even more of a rarity is when someone comes along with not only the God given talent, but the heart and compassion to make a difference. Christian has witnessed countless souls come to know Jesus as their Savior and has seen hearts and lives changed by the power of God. He believes the most important thing he can do is reach souls and touch the hearts and lives of people through the instrument He gave him, his voice.

The Award-winning Isaacs Make the Most of The Living Years with All-New CD
Family Group Emphasizes Acclaimed Harmonies with Acoustic Approach to Their Latest Recording
Fans Able to Get Up Close and Personal with New Isaacs’ DVD
August 9th, 2013—NASHVILLE , Tenn.—Award-winning family group The Isaacs will release an all-new CD recording, The Living Years, on August 13th. Produced by Ben Isaacs (Oak Ridge Boys, Gaither Vocal Band) and Bill Gaither, the new release, recorded acoustically, captures the intricate family harmonies that have made this group a household name among Gospel music lovers and showcases the type of arrangements and musicality that have made them known for their “pedal-steel blend.”
“This release is really about the vocals and represents what we are doing the most LIVE in concert these days,” describes Ben, “whether at a bluegrass festival, a gospel concert or a church, we are emphasizing our harmonies and using less instruments on stage. You still get the stand-up bass, mandolin, banjo, guitar and percussion and the bluegrass numbers; but our overall approach in a LIVE setting is one that focuses on our harmony, which is where it all started for us.”
Those seamless harmonies are featured on the recording’s opener—a cover of “The Living Years,” a pop hit from the 80s originally recorded by Mike + the Mechanics.
“Bill [Gaither] suggested this song to us, and we are so glad he did,” recalls Ben. “What a great song. Our version is a bit looser and acoustic in style which I think brings the lyrics more front and center.”
Lyrics remain “front and center” on the group’s covers of the Gospel classics “For Those Tears I Died,” “I Am a Child of God” and “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow” and on their impeccable, acapella rendition of “I Must Tell Jesus.” “Walk Together Children” is another acapella selection that features a signature “boom boom” bass part by Bill Gaither.
“This song sounds like a song from the 30s or 40s,” Ben explains. “This is one of those kinds of songs that Bill really loves. It has a barber shop feel.” “Bill is brilliant with harmony,” adds Lily, “the three parts come more naturally for us, but Bill is a master and a perfectionist with that fourth part—with those arrangements with chords that ‘rub’ together more unexpectedly.”
Not so unexpectedly, the group chose to record a Dottie Rambo-penned classic. “Becky brought ‘If That Isn’t Love’ to the bus one day before a show,” Ben recalls. “We went over it and Bill said, ‘We’re gonna sing this tonight!’ He often plays piano in concert with us for this song when we are with him. He is the ‘king of feel’ on the piano.”
Bill, Gloria and Buddy Greene wrote a new song for the release entitled “Leave It All on the Altar.” “You know it’s like a house. You make it look real modern, and that is going to date it eventually,” describes Ben. “You build a classic home and you won’t know when it was built. Bill is like that with songs, and this is an example of a new song that sounds timeless. This cut is more swamp-y…blues-y. It’s the most fun I had playing in the studio during the recording.”
Another “fun” tune featured on The Living Years is the classic “Ac-Cent-Tchu-ate the Positive.” “Becky brought this to the table,” recalls Lily. “She heard Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters’ version from the 40s, and we really learned it from the YouTube clip! This tune is familiar to a lot of people, and we love to watch audiences warmly singing along.”
Crowds can also join in on the group’s rendition of “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days),” originally recorded by The Judds. Recorded at Ricky Skaggs’ studio, Sonya used one of Ricky’s octave mandolins on this recording, and she eventually purchased it from him and now performs the song with it in concert.
“This song takes me to my dad’s parents’ home in Kentucky,” says Ben with a smile. “They were the epitome of what this song is about--being together, plowing fields, taking care of their cabin with 17 kids and no running water—this lyric takes me to that spot; and it features my favorite line on the entire album: “Did daddys really never go away?”
The newly written “I Wanna Be There” was an idea from Sonya and Becky that they brought to life with Sonya’s husband, Jimmy Yeary. An emotional tearjerker getting early rave reviews, the song features Gordon Mote on the piano which marks the only time piano is used on The Living Years.
Also releasing on Tuesday is Up Close and Personal, an all-new DVD from The Isaacs that contains an intimate time of conversation and performances around the piano with Bill, numerous appearances from various Homecoming stages ranging from Alaska to Jerusalem and a moving tribute to Lily’s mother.
The Living Years CD and DVD will be exclusively distributed by Capitol Christian Distribution and made available throughout general market stores and the Christian marketplace in addition to online retailers including iTunes, Amazon and www.gaither.com.

The release will be featured on tv networks including RFD, PBS, DISH TV, DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse, TBN, Family Net, FFE, RURAL TV, TNN, Airtime, CTN, The Walk TV (formerly Legacy), TCT and TLN and also in Canada on Vision TV, CTS, Grace TV and the Miracle Channel. In addition, the DVD will be featured on Gaither TV (available on Roku, Google and the Internet).

Gaither Officially Announces Matthew Holt As Pianist
Alexandria, IN - The audience at National Quartet Convention received a surprise announcement on Friday night, September 14, when Bill Gaither announced from stage that the new full-time piano player for the Gaither Vocal Band and the Gaither Homecoming Tour is Matthew Holt. Holt, too, was surprised and delighted at the announcement but is well prepared to accept his new role.
Matthew has been playing piano professionally since he was 19, when he was invited to accompany the award-winning family group The Perrys full-time. He remained with the Perrys from 2004 until 2008, receiving multiple nominations for Singing News Fan Awards for Top Musician during those years. Matthew came off the road after he and his wife, Lindsey, had their first child and Matthew went to work as Associate Director of Bethel University's Renaissance program in his hometown of McKenzie, Tennessee. He and the university intend for Matthew to remain on staff at Bethel for as long as possible while he also works with the Gaither Vocal Band and Gaither Homecoming Tour.
First inspired by late piano legend Anthony Burger, Matthew attended a Kingsmen concert at age two that would forever change the course of his life. He watched Anthony play and imitated him starting that very night. His parents bought him a piano the following year and he began taking lessons in grade school until he eventually realized his ultimate goal to play for a gospel group. In October of 2007, Matthew experienced a full-circle moment when he was chosen to play piano at Anthony Burger's induction into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Thrilled to accept his new role with the Gaither tour, Matthew states, "To be a member of the Gaither Family is a dream come true. I'm humbled and honored to be a part of this established and highly respected musical tradition. Words can't describe how excited I am about this opportunity!"
Bill Gaither is equally thrilled that Matthew has accepted this new role, stating, "The Gaither Vocal Band has been blessed to only have two piano players in our history until now, and both have been tremendous. Now, to be blessed once again with a musician of Matthew Holt's caliber is quite a gift! What a joy it is to welcome this fine young man to the family."
Matthew and Lindsey have two children: a son, Fletcher (4) and a daughter, Ridley (1). The family resides in McKenzie, Tennessee, where Matthew was born and raised.

Premier Tenor DAVID PHELPS Records All-NEW Classic CD and LIVE Concert DVD
NASHVILLE, Tenn.——Gaither Music Group’s acclaimed vocalist David Phelps has just recorded an all-new studio CD as well as a concert DVD, scheduled to release on October 9th.
The new audio recording, Classic, produced by Phelps and Bill Gaither, finds him showcasing the seemingly endless breadth of his vocal range and a depth, vocally and lyrically, unprecedented by a man already considered a premier tenor.
“It’s been over four years since I recorded my last studio project,” stated Phelps, “…a lot of things have happened for me during that time — Gaither Vocal Band recordings and videos, a solo Christmas video and the “best of” project. One of the most positive areas of growth has been the energy that has grown behind my performance of ‘Nessun Dorma.’ I never expected it to get such a broad response, but that reaction has definitely played into the current direction for Classic.
“Bill [Gaither] came up to me about a year-and-a-half ago and asked to be involved in a new solo recording,” Phelps continues. “I had never had the opportunity to work with Bill on anything solo-related, so I was very interested. The song selection process took over a year, and the actual recording process lasted close to seven months. He and I work very well together, but his perspective is different from mine. It was a great experience to see how his mind works in this process, and it was a great confidence builder for me for him to put so much trust in me.”
The new release, arranged and orchestrated by David Phelps, David Davidson and Jason Webb, features full orchestra. Song selections include an invigorating and unpredictable arrangement of “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee,” penned lyrically by Henry J. van Dyke and set to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Hymn to Joy; an upbeat, trumpet-driven rendition of the popular hymn “Morning Has Broken,” first published in 1931; Phelps’ own arrangement of “The Lord’s Prayer” and a riveting performance of the Rodgers and Hammerstein show tune “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” introduced in the 1945 musical Carousel.
Classic showcases Phelps’ classical vocal training and performance history on selections including the poignant “Donna Non Vidi Mai (1893), a song from Act I of the Italian opera Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini as well as “Bring Him Home,” from the popular stage musical Les Miserables. Phelps gives an emotional performance of “O Mio Babbino Caro” (Oh My Beloved Father), an aria from the Italian opera Gianni Schicci (1918) by Giacomo Puccini. In addition, the release features Cesar Franck’s hymn “Panis Angelicus,” with a lyric written by Saint Thomas Aquinas.
While many composers ranging from Franz Schubert and Mozart to Johann Sebastian Bach have created musical arrangements of “Agnus Dei,” the Latin “Lamb of God” doctrine, Phelps puts his own pen to paper with an original creation — a reverent and inspiring composition on which he is joined by his 14-year-old daughter, Maggie Beth. He gives a dramatic performance of a new epic ballad he penned called “The Dream,” complete with haunting melody and stirring lyrics, and combines “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America” for a moving patriotic tribute.
A full house at Franklin, Tennessee’s newly renovated, state-of-the-art Franklin Theater was on its feet throughout the evening recently as Phelps performed the new release in addition to several of his most popular songs. Complete with orchestra, choir, a band and a guest appearance by The Gaither Vocal Band, Phelps’ powerhouse techniques varied from earnest interpretations and effortless strains to swelling arias, emitting the unfathomable control of a seasoned trained performer.
The intimate concert, to be released on DVD, included a lighthearted yet passionate rendering of the standard “What a Wonderful World” that found Phelps seated next to the grand piano played by Jack Daniels. Phelps took his own turn on the keys for “Moonlight,” a take on Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” with lyrics that he penned as a prayer, and also performed “Ave Maria” a cappella. Also captured on the new DVD is his unique interpretation of “O Come Angel Band” and his noted performance of Giacomo Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma,” a song that brings audiences to their feet regularly during performances.
“This project has probably taken the most work of any recording I’ve done to date,” says Phelps with a relaxed smile of relief. “It’s been great to be involved in every step of it, from producing to arranging to orchestrating. I hope it moves listeners. I hope they love the music and hear the songs with fresh ears. I hope people really listen to the lyrics and find hope to get through the hard days that life can bring.”
“Gaither Music Group has had the privilege of working with some of the most talented artists in the world,” stated Barry Jennings, president of Gaither Music Group. “Among the most incredible voices we have ever heard is the classically trained tenor David Phelps. David has wowed audiences around the world with the Gaither Vocal Band and now has recorded a new album that celebrates the influences that have made him the esteemed artist that he has become. We are excited to partner with David in presenting this incredible project.”
The Gaither Vocal Band’s appearance on the new DVD included a contagious rendition of the traditional “Swing Down Chariot,” the epic “Glorious Impossible” and the reverent “All in All.”
Classic, a new release in the Gaither Gospel Series, will be distributed on CD and DVD through EMI CMG Distribution and will be available through digital stores and at retail stores everywhere. The release will be positioned heavily at retail, through catalog placement and through a direct tv campaign on networks including PBS, GAC, RFD, TBN, FamilyNet, CTS, CTN, TCT, TLN, FFE Airtime 1, Grace, Legacy, Miracle and Vision as well as on Gaither.com.
